2022-03-16Powerpc fix for gdb.base/ending-run.expCarl Love1-0/+16
The last two tests in gdb.base/ending-run.exp case fail on Powerpc when the system does not have the needed glibc debug-info files loaded. In this case, gdb is not able to determine where execution stopped. This behavior looks as follows for the test case: The next to the last test does a next command when the program is stopped at the closing bracket for main. The message printed is: 0x00007ffff7d01524 in ?? () from /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 which fails to match any of the test_multiple options. The test then does another next command. On Powerpc, the message printed it: Cannot find bounds of current function The test fails as the output does not match any of the options for the gdb_test_multiple. I checked the behavior on Powerpc to see if this is typical. I ran gdb on the following simple program as shown below. #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { printf("Hello, world!\n"); return 0; } gdb ./hello_world <snip the gdb start info> Type "apropos word" to search for commands related to "word"... Reading symbols from ./hello_world... (No debugging symbols found in ./hello_world) (gdb) break main Breakpoint 1 at 0x818 (gdb) r Starting program: /home/carll/hello_world [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] Using host libthread_db library "/lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1". Breakpoint 1, 0x0000000100000818 in main () (gdb) n Single stepping until exit from function main, which has no line number information. Hello, world! 0x00007ffff7d01524 in ?? () from /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (gdb) n Cannot find bounds of current function So it would seem that the messages seen from the test case are "normal" output for Powerpc when the debug-info is not available. The following patch adds the output from Powerpc as an option to the gdb_test_multiple statement, identifying the output as the expected output on Powerpc without the needed debug-info files installed. The patch has been tested on a Power 10 system and an Intel 64-bit system. No additional regression failures were seen on either platform.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
2018-01-21wrong line number in breakpoint locationJoel Brobecker1-2/+2
Consider the following situation, where we have one file containing... $ cat -n body.inc 1 i = i + 1; ... we include that file from some code, like so: $ cat -n cat -n small.c [...] 17 int 18 next (int i) 19 { 20 #include "body.inc" 21 return i; 22 } When trying to insert a breakpoint on line 18, for instance: (gdb) b small.c:18 Breakpoint 1 at 0x40049f: file body.inc, line 18. ^^ || Here, the issue is that GDB reports the breakpoint to be in file body.inc, which is true, but with the line number that corresponding to the user-requested location, which is not correct. Although the simple reproducer may look slightly artificial, the above is simply one way to reproduce the same issue observed when trying to insert a breakpoint on a function provided in a .h files and then subsequently inlined in a C file. What happens is the following: 1. We resolve the small.c:18 linespec into a symtab_and_line which has "small.c" and 18 as the symtab and line number. 2. Next, we call skip_prologue_sal, which calculates the PC past the prologue, and updates the symtab_and_line: PC, but also symtab (now body.inc) and the new line (now 1). 3. However, right after that, we do: /* Make sure the line matches the request, not what was found. */ intermediate_results.sals[i].line = val.line; We should either restore both symtab and line, or leave the actual line to match the actual symtab. This patch chose the latter. This introduces a few changes in a few tests, which required some updates, but looking at those change, I believe them to be expected. gdb/ChangeLog: * linespec.c (create_sals_line_offset): Remove code that preserved the symtab_and_line's line number. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gdb.base/break-include.c, gdb.base/break-include.inc, gdb.base/break-include.exp: New files. * gdb.base/ending-run.exp: Minor adaptations due to the breakpoint's line number now being the actual line number where the breakpoint was inserted. * gdb.mi/mi-break.exp: Likewise. * gdb.mi/mi-reverse.exp: Likewise. * gdb.mi/mi-simplerun.exp: Ditto. Tested on x86_64-linux.

A few months ago semicolons after "return" were removed throughout the testsuite. However, as I pointed out in review, they're unnecessary not just after "return", but pretty much after any tcl command. ';' is the command separator, and you only need it if there's another command on the same line afterwards. This patch was written by running: $ find . -name "*.exp" | xargs grep -l ";\s*$" | xargs sed -i 's/\([^#][^\s*;]*\)\s*;\s*$/\1/' and then undoing changes to comments, and lib/future.exp.
