2024-03-26gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: remove includes of early headersSimon Marchi1-1/+0
Now that defs.h, server.h and common-defs.h are included via the `-include` option, it is no longer necessary for source files to include them. Remove all the inclusions of these files I could find. 2024-02-06gdb: remove core_bfd macroSimon Marchi1-1/+2
The core_bfd macro hides a use of current_program_space. Remove it, so that we have the opportunity to get the program space from the context, if possible. I guess that the macro was introduced at some point to replace a global variable of the same name without changing all the uses. I don't like the name `target_so_ops`, because: - The name `target` is so overloaded, and in this case it's not even related to target_ops or anything else called "target". - We do have an implementation that actually fetches solibs from the target (solib_target_so_op in solib-target.c), so it's confusing for the "base class" to be called target_something as well. 2024-02-05gdb: rename struct shobj -> struct solibSimon Marchi1-7/+7
`struct so_list` was recently renamed to `struct shobj` (in 3fe0dfd1604f ("gdb: rename struct so_list to shobj")). In hindsight, `solib` would have been a better name. We have solib.c, the implementations in solib-*.c, many functions with solib in their name, the solib_loaded / solib_unloaded observables, etc. Rename shobj to solib. 2024-01-12Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDBAndrew Burgess1-1/+1
This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.

2023-10-19gdb: remove target_so_ops::free_soSimon Marchi1-10/+1
target_so_ops::free_so is responsible for freeing the specific lm_info object. All implementations basically just call delete. Remove that method, make the destructor of lm_info virtual, and call delete directly from the free_so function. Make the sub-classes final, just because it's good practice. 2023-10-19gdb: add program_space parameter to target_so_ops::clear_solibSimon Marchi1-1/+1
The clear_solib is implicitly meant to clear the resources associated to the current program space (that's what the solib implementations that actually support multi-program-space / multi-inferior do). Make that explicit by adding a program_space parameter and pass down current_program_space in call sites. The implementation of the clear_solib callbacks is fairly simple, I don't think any of them rely on global state other than accessing current_program_space. 2023-10-10gdb: remove target_gdbarchSimon Marchi1-9/+10
This function is just a wrapper around the current inferior's gdbarch. I find that having that wrapper just obscures where the arch is coming from, and that it's often used as "I don't know which arch to use so I'll use this magical target_gdbarch function that gets me an arch" when the arch should in fact come from something in the context (a thread, objfile, symbol, etc). I think that removing it and inlining `current_inferior ()->arch ()` everywhere will make it a bit clearer where that arch comes from and will trigger people into reflecting whether this is the right place to get the arch or not. solib implementations are typically used one at a time. So it will be rare that you will want to enable debug for one solib kind, and absolutely want to keep the others disabled. To make things simpler, instead of adding separate variables / macros / commands for each solib implementation, merge the existing ones (frv and aix) into a unified "set/show debug solib", with the solib_debug_printf macro. 2022-08-03Use gdb_bfd_ref_ptr in objfileTom Tromey1-1/+1
This changes struct objfile to use a gdb_bfd_ref_ptr. In addition to removing some manual memory management, this fixes a use-after-free that was introduced by the registry rewrite series. The issue there was that, in some cases, registry shutdown could refer to memory that had already been freed. This help fix the bug by delaying the destruction of the BFD reference (and thus the per-bfd object) until after the registry has been shut down.

2021-06-28gdb: convert obj_section macros to methodsSimon Marchi1-1/+1
Convert these three macros to methods of obj_section. The problem fixed by the following patch is caused by an out of bound access of the objfile::section_offsets vector. Since this is deep in macros, we don't get a clear backtrace and it's difficult to debug. Changing that to methods means we can step in them and break on them. Because their implementation requires knowing about struct objfile, move struct obj_section below struct objfile in objfiles.h. The obj_section_offset was used in one place as an lvalue to set offsets, in machoread.c. Replace that with a set_offset method. Add the objfile::section_offset and objfile::set_section_offset methods to improve encapsulation (reduce other objects poking into struct objfile's internals). gdb/ChangeLog: * objfiles.h (struct obj_section): Move down. <offset, set_offset, addr, endaddr>: New. (obj_section_offset, obj_section_addr, obj_section_endaddr), replace all users to use obj_section methods. (struct objfile) <section_offset, set_section_offset>: New. 2020-11-02gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issuesSimon Marchi1-45/+45
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example, there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch. So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully). One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit" anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you already need a somewhat efficient way to do this. Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke. It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it). Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't really make archeology more difficult. The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c: Fix 2020-01-08Change section_offsets to a std::vectorTom Tromey1-6/+5
This changes section_offsets to be specialization of a std::vector and updates all the users. It also removes the ANOFFSET and SIZEOF_N_SECTION_OFFSETS macros. Most of this is just a generic sort of cleanup, that reduces the number of lines of code. However, a couple spots were doing weird things. objfile_relocate did: - std::vector<struct section_offsets> - new_debug_offsets (SIZEOF_N_SECTION_OFFSETS (debug_objfile->num_sections)); ... which seems to greatly over-estimate the number of elements needed. This appeared in set_objfile_default_section_offset: - std::vector<struct section_offsets> offsets (objf->num_sections, - { { offset } }); ... which makes sense due to type safety, but is also actively confusing given that section_offsets was previously also a kind of vector type. This large patch removes the unnecessary bfd parameter from various bfd section macros and functions. The bfd is hardly ever used and if needed for the bfd_set_section_* or bfd_rename_section functions can be found via section->owner except for the com, und, abs, and ind std_section special sections. Those sections shouldn't be modified anyway. The patch also removes various bfd_get_section_<field> macros, replacing their use with bfd_section_<field>, and adds bfd_set_section_lma. I've also fixed a minor bug in gas where compressed section renaming was done directly rather than calling bfd_rename_section. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). If you want to use catch_errors with a function with parameters, then currently you have to manually write a "capture" struct wrapping the arguments and marshall/unmarshall that. https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2017-09/msg00834.html proposed adjusting catch_errors to use gdb::function_view, which would allow passing lambdas with automatic captures. However, it seems like using TRY/CATCH directly instead ends up producing clearer and easier to debug code. This is what this commit does. Note that removing catch_errors exposes further cleanup opportunities around no longer having to follow catch_errors callback type, and also removes a few cleanups. I didn't do anything to save/restore current_uiout because I think that should be the responsibility of the code that changes current_uiout in the first place. (Another approach could be to make catch_errors a variadic template like: template<typename Function, typename... This patches makes lm_info_frv a "real" class.
