2022-01-01Automatic Copyright Year update after running gdb/copyright.pyJoel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure. For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were performed by the script.
2021-10-28gdb: add add_setshow_prefix_cmdSimon Marchi1-6/+5
There's a common pattern to call add_basic_prefix_cmd and add_show_prefix_cmd to add matching set and show commands. Add the add_setshow_prefix_cmd function to factor that out and use it at a few places. Change-Id: I6e9e90a30e9efb7b255bf839cac27b85d7069cfd
2021-05-12gdb: generate the prefix name for prefix commands on demandMarco Barisione1-2/+2
Previously, the prefixname field of struct cmd_list_element was manually set for prefix commands. This seems verbose and error prone as it required every single call to functions adding prefix commands to specify the prefix name while the same information can be easily generated. Historically, this was not possible as the prefix field was null for many commands, but this was fixed in commit 3f4d92ebdf7f848b5ccc9e8d8e8514c64fde1183 by Philippe Waroquiers, so we can rely on the prefix field being set when generating the prefix name. This commit also fixes a use after free in this scenario: * A command gets created via Python (using the gdb.Command class). The prefix name member is dynamically allocated. * An alias to the new command is created. The alias's prefixname is set to point to the prefixname for the original command with a direct assignment. * A new command with the same name as the Python command is created. * The object for the original Python command gets freed and its prefixname gets freed as well. * The alias is updated to point to the new command, but its prefixname is not updated so it keeps pointing to the freed one. gdb/ChangeLog: * command.h (add_prefix_cmd): Remove the prefixname argument as it can now be generated automatically. Update all callers. (add_basic_prefix_cmd): Ditto. (add_show_prefix_cmd): Ditto. (add_prefix_cmd_suppress_notification): Ditto. (add_abbrev_prefix_cmd): Ditto. * cli/cli-decode.c (add_prefix_cmd): Ditto. (add_basic_prefix_cmd): Ditto. (add_show_prefix_cmd): Ditto. (add_prefix_cmd_suppress_notification): Ditto. (add_prefix_cmd_suppress_notification): Ditto. (add_abbrev_prefix_cmd): Ditto. * cli/cli-decode.h (struct cmd_list_element): Replace the prefixname member variable with a method which generates the prefix name at runtime. Update all code reading the prefix name to use the method, and remove all code setting it. * python/py-cmd.c (cmdpy_destroyer): Remove code to free the prefixname member as it's now a method. (cmdpy_function): Determine if the command is a prefix by looking at prefixlist, not prefixname.
2021-01-21gdb: use interruptible_select when connecting to a remoteSimon Marchi1-1/+1
When GDB is waiting trying to connect to a remote target and it receives a SIGWINCH (terminal gets resized), the blocking system call gets interrupted and we abort. For example, I connect to some port (on which nothing listens): (gdb) tar rem :1234 ... GDB blocks here, resize the terminal ... :1234: Interrupted system call. The backtrace where GDB is blocked while waiting for the connection to establish is: #0 0x00007fe9db805b7b in select () from /usr/lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x000055f2472e9c42 in gdb_select (n=0, readfds=0x0, writefds=0x0, exceptfds=0x0, timeout=0x7ffe8fafe050) at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/posix-hdep.c:31 #2 0x000055f24759c212 in wait_for_connect (sock=-1, polls=0x7ffe8fafe300) at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/ser-tcp.c:147 #3 0x000055f24759d0e8 in net_open (scb=0x62500015b900, name=0x6020000601d8 ":1234") at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/ser-tcp.c:356 #4 0x000055f2475a0395 in serial_open_ops_1 (ops=0x55f24892ca60 <tcp_ops>, open_name=0x6020000601d8 ":1234") at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/serial.c:244 #5 0x000055f2475a01d6 in serial_open (name=0x6020000601d8 ":1234") at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/serial.c:231 #6 0x000055f2474d5274 in remote_serial_open (name=0x6020000601d8 ":1234") at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/remote.c:5019 #7 0x000055f2474d7025 in remote_target::open_1 (name=0x6020000601d8 ":1234", from_tty=1, extended_p=0) at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/remote.c:5571 #8 0x000055f2474d47d5 in remote_target::open (name=0x6020000601d8 ":1234", from_tty=1) at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/remote.c:4898 #9 0x000055f24776379f in open_target (args=0x6020000601d8 ":1234", from_tty=1, command=0x611000042bc0) at /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/target.c:242 Fix that by using interruptible_select in wait_for_connect, instead of gdb_select. Resizing the terminal now no longer aborts the connection. It is still possible to interrupt the connection using ctrl-c. gdb/ChangeLog: * ser-tcp.c (wait_for_connect): Use interruptible_select instead of gdb_select. 2020-04-17Replace most calls to help_list and cmd_show_listTom Tromey1-20/+6
Currently there are many prefix commands that do nothing but call either help_list or cmd_show_list. I happened to notice that one such call, for "set print type", used the wrong command list parameter, causing incorrect output. Rather than fix this bug in isolation, I decided to eliminate this possibility by adding two new ways to add prefix commands, which simply route the call to help_list or cmd_show_list, as appropriate. This makes it impossible for a mismatch to occur. In some cases, a bit of output was removed; however, I don't think this output in general was very useful. It seemed redundant with what's already printed by help_list. A representative example is this hunk, removed from ada-lang.c: - printf_unfiltered (_(\ -"\"set ada\" must be followed by the name of a setting.\n")); This simplified the CLI style set/show commands quite a bit, and allowed the deletion of a macro. This also cleans up some unusual code in windows-tdep.c. Tested on x86-64 Fedora 30. Note that I have no way to build the go32-nat.c change. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-04-17 Tom Tromey <tromey@adacore.com> * auto-load.c (show_auto_load_cmd): Remove. 2020-01-13gdb: add back declarations for _initialize functionsSimon Marchi1-1/+2
I'd like to enable the -Wmissing-declarations warning. However, it warns for every _initialize function, for example: CXX dcache.o /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/dcache.c: In function ‘void _initialize_dcache()’: /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/dcache.c:688:1: error: no previous declaration for ‘void _initialize_dcache()’ [-Werror=missing-declarations] _initialize_dcache (void) ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The only practical way forward I found is to add back the declarations, which were removed by this commit: commit 481695ed5f6e0a8a9c9c50bfac1cdd2b3151e6c9 Author: John Baldwin <jhb@FreeBSD.org> Date: Sat Sep 9 11:02:37 2017 -0700 Remove unnecessary function prototypes. I don't think it's a big problem to have the declarations for these functions, but if anybody has a better solution for this, I'll be happy to use it. gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-fbsd-nat.c 2019-08-07Make first and last lines of 'command help documentation' consistent.Philippe Waroquiers1-8/+8
With this patch, the help docs now respect 2 invariants: * The first line of a command help is terminated by a '.' character. * The last character of a command help is not a newline character. Note that the changes for the last invariant were done by Tom, as part of : [PATCH] Remove trailing newlines from help text https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2019-06/msg00050.html but some occurrences have been re-introduced since then. Some help docs had to be rephrased/restructured to respect the above invariants. Before this patch, print_doc_line was printing the first line of a command help documentation, but stopping at the first '.' or ',' character. This was giving inconsistent results : * The first line of command helps was sometimes '.' terminated, sometimes not. * The first line of command helps was not always designed to be readable/understandable/unambiguous when stopping at the first '.' or ',' character. This e.g. created the following inconsistencies/problems: < catch exception -- Catch Ada exceptions < catch handlers -- Catch Ada exceptions < catch syscall -- Catch system calls by their names < down-silently -- Same as the `down' command while the new help is: > catch exception -- Catch Ada exceptions, when raised. > catch handlers -- Catch Ada exceptions, when handled. > catch syscall -- Catch system calls by their names, groups and/or numbers. > down-silently -- Same as the `down' command, but does not print anything. Also, the command help doc should not be terminated by a newline character, but this was not respected by all commands. The cli-option -OPT framework re-introduced some occurences. So, the -OPT build help framework was changed to not output newlines at the end of %OPTIONS% replacement. This patch changes the help documentations to ensure the 2 invariants given above. It implied to slightly rephrase or restructure some help docs. Based on the above invariants, print_doc_line (called by 'apropos' and 'help' commands to print the first line of a command help) now outputs the full first line of a command help. This all results in a lot of small changes in the produced help docs. There are less code changes than changes in the help docs, as a lot of docs are produced by some code (e.g. the remote packet usage settings). gdb/ChangeLog 2019-08-07 Philippe Waroquiers <philippe.waroquiers@skynet.be> * cli/cli-decode.h (print_doc_line): Add for_value_prefix argument. * cli/cli-decode.c (print_doc_line): Likewise. 2019-07-09Rename common to gdbsupportTom Tromey1-3/+3
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the top level. This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit more tractable. I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too much difficulty. Tested by the buildbot. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-07-09 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * contrib/ari/gdb_ari.sh: Change common to gdbsupport. * configure: Rebuild. * configure.ac: Change common to gdbsupport. * This changeset defines _WIN32_WINNT to at least 0x0501, the level of Windows XP, unless defined to a higher level, in a single place. It then removes all the overrides of _WIN32_WINNT in individual files as no longer needed. Doing this also solves compilation of windows-nat.c with mingw.org's MinGW, as that file uses CONSOLE_FONT_INFO which needs the XP level to become exposed in the Windows headers, while mingw.org defaults to Windows 9X. gdb/ChangeLog: 2019-05-03 Eli Zaretskii <eliz@gnu.org> * common/common-defs.h [__MINGW32__ || __CYGWIN__]: Define _WIN32_WINNT to the XP level, unless already defined to a higher level. * unittests/parse-connection-spec-selftests.c: * ser-tcp.c: * common/netstuff.c [USE_WIN32API]: Remove the _WIN32_WINNT override. gdb/gdbserver/ChangeLog: 2019-05-03 Eli Zaretskii <eliz@gnu.org> * remote-utils.c: * gdbreplay.c [USE_WIN32API]: Remove the _WIN32_WINNT override.

2019-01-01Update copyright year range in all GDB files.Joel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
2018-08-03Fix thinko when deciding whether to disable TCP's Nagle algorithmSergio Durigan Junior1-1/+1
This patch fixes a thinko that happened when I was implementing the IPv6 support on GDB/gdbserver. On certain situations, it is necessary to disable TCP's Nagle algorithm (NODELAY). For obvious reasons, this only applies when we are dealing with a TCP connection. While implementing the IPv6 patch, I noticed that the net_open function (on gdb/ser-tcp.c) kept a flag indicating whether the connection type was UDP or TCP. I eliminated that flag, and started using the 'struct addrinfo *' related to the successful connection directly. However, I made a mistake: if (success_ainfo->ai_socktype == IPPROTO_TCP) ^^^^^^^^^^^ { /* Disable Nagle algorithm. Needed in some cases. */ int tmp = 1; setsockopt (scb->fd, IPPROTO_TCP, TCP_NODELAY, (char *) &tmp, sizeof (tmp)); } The 'ai_socktype' field specifies the socket type (SOCK_STREAM or SOCK_DGRAM), and not the protocol. This test was always failing, and the Nagle algorithm was never being disabled. The obvious fix is to use the 'ai_protocol' field. This is what this patch does. Huge "thank you" to Joel Brobecker who reported the regression (he was experiencing an unusual delay while debugging a bare-metal program running under QEMU) and helped me set up a proper reproducer for the bug. gdb/ChangeLog: 2018-08-03 Sergio Durigan Junior <sergiodj@redhat.com> * ser-tcp.c (net_open): Fix thinko when deciding whether to disable TCP's Nagle algorithm (use "ai_protocol" instead of "ai_socktype").
2018-07-12Declare 'ioarg' (from ser-tcp.c:try_connect) as 'u_long' when on Windows ↵Sergio Durigan Junior1-0/+4
(and unbreak build on mingw32) When building GDB on mingw32, it fails with: ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/ser-tcp.c: In function 'int try_connect(const addrinfo*, unsigned int*)': ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/ser-tcp.c:176:25: error: invalid conversion from 'int*' to 'u_long* {aka long unsigned int*}' [-fpermissive] ioctl (sock, FIONBIO, &ioarg); ^~~~~~ In file included from ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/serial.h:23:0, from ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/ser-tcp.c:21: /usr/x86_64-w64-mingw32/sys-root/mingw/include/winsock2.h:977:34: note: initializing argument 3 of 'int ioctlsocket(SOCKET, long int, u_long*)' WINSOCK_API_LINKAGE int WSAAPI ioctlsocket(SOCKET s,__LONG32 cmd,u_long *argp); ^~~~~~~~~~~ make[2]: *** [Makefile:1610: ser-tcp.o] Error 1 The problem happens because the IPv6 commit (c7ab0aef11d91b637bf091aa9176b8dc4aadee46) wrongly removed the code responsible for declaring 'ioarg' with a different type if building for Windows. This patch restores that. gdb/ChangeLog: 2018-07-12 Sergio Durigan Junior <sergiodj@redhat.com> * ser-tcp.c (try_connect): Declare 'ioarg' as 'u_long' if building on Windows.
2018-07-11Implement IPv6 support for GDB/gdbserverSergio Durigan Junior1-120/+176
This patch implements IPv6 support for both GDB and gdbserver. Based on my research, it is the fourth attempt to do that since 2006. Since I used ideas from all of the previous patches, I also added their authors's names on the ChangeLogs as a way to recognize their efforts. For reference sake, you can find the previous attempts at: https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2006-09/msg00192.html https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2014-02/msg00248.html https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2016-02/msg00226.html The basic idea behind the patch is to start using the new 'getaddrinfo'/'getnameinfo' calls, which are responsible for translating names and addresses in a protocol-independent way. This means that if we ever have a new version of the IP protocol, we won't need to change the code again (or, at least, won't have to change the majority of the code). The function 'getaddrinfo' returns a linked list of possible addresses to connect to. Dealing with multiple addresses proved to be a hard task with the current TCP auto-retry mechanism implemented on ser-tcp:net_open. For example, when gdbserver listened only on an IPv4 socket: $ ./gdbserver --once 127.0.0.1:1234 ./a.out and GDB was instructed to try to connect to both IPv6 and IPv4 sockets: $ ./gdb -ex 'target extended-remote localhost:1234' ./a.out the user would notice a somewhat big delay before GDB was able to connect to the IPv4 socket. This happened because GDB was trying to connect to the IPv6 socket first, and had to wait until the connection timed out before it tried to connect to the IPv4 socket. For that reason, I had to rewrite the main loop and implement a new method for handling multiple connections. After some discussion, Pedro and I agreed on the following algorithm: 1) For each entry returned by 'getaddrinfo', we try to open a socket and connect to it. 2.a) If we have a successful 'connect', we just use that connection. 2.b) If we don't have a successfull 'connect', but if we've got a ECONNREFUSED (meaning the the connection was refused), we keep track of this fact by using a flag. 2.c) If we don't have a successfull 'connect', but if we've got a EINPROGRESS (meaning that the connection is in progress), we perform a 'select' call on the socket until we have a result (either a successful connection, or an error on the socket). 3) If tcp_auto_retry is true, and we haven't gotten a successful connection, and at least one of our attempts failed with ECONNREFUSED, then we wait a little bit (i.e., call 'wait_for_connect'), check to see if there was a timeout/interruption (in which case we bail out), and then go back to (1). After multiple tests, I was able to connect without delay on the scenario described above, and was also able to connect in all other types of scenarios. I also implemented some hostname parsing functions (along with their corresponding unit tests) which are used to help GDB and gdbserver to parse hostname strings provided by the user. These new functions are living inside common/netstuff.[ch]. I've had to do that since IPv6 introduces a new URL scheme, which defines that square brackets can be used to enclose the host part and differentiate it from the port (e.g., "[::1]:1234" means "host ::1, port 1234"). I spent some time thinking about a reasonable way to interpret what the user wants, and I came up with the following: - If the user has provided a prefix that doesn't specify the protocol version (i.e., "tcp:" or "udp:"), or if the user has not provided any prefix, don't make any assumptions (i.e., assume AF_UNSPEC when dealing with 'getaddrinfo') *unless* the host starts with "[" (in which case, assume it's an IPv6 host). - If the user has provided a prefix that does specify the protocol version (i.e., "tcp4:", "tcp6:", "udp4:" or "udp6:"), then respect that. This method doesn't follow strictly what RFC 2732 proposes (that literal IPv6 addresses should be provided enclosed in "[" and "]") because IPv6 addresses still can be provided without square brackets in our case, but since we have prefixes to specify protocol versions I think this is not an issue. Another thing worth mentioning is the new 'GDB_TEST_SOCKETHOST' testcase parameter, which makes it possible to specify the hostname (without the port) to be used when testing GDB and gdbserver. For example, to run IPv6 tests: $ make check-gdb RUNTESTFLAGS='GDB_TEST_SOCKETHOST=tcp6:[::1]' Or, to run IPv4 tests: $ make check-gdb RUNTESTFLAGS='GDB_TEST_SOCKETHOST=tcp4:127.0.0.1' This required a few changes on the gdbserver-base.exp, and also a minimal adjustment on gdb.server/run-without-local-binary.exp. Finally, I've implemented a new testcase, gdb.server/server-connect.exp, which is supposed to run on the native host and perform various "smoke tests" using different connection methods. This patch has been regression-tested on BuildBot and locally, and also built using a x86_64-w64-mingw32 GCC, and no problems were found. gdb/ChangeLog: 2018-07-11 Sergio Durigan Junior <sergiodj@redhat.com> Jan Kratochvil <jan.kratochvil@redhat.com> Paul Fertser <fercerpav@gmail.com> Tsutomu Seki <sekiriki@gmail.com> Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * Makefile.in (SUBDIR_UNITTESTS_SRCS): Add 'unittests/parse-connection-spec-selftests.c'. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files
2017-11-06Assume termios is available, remove support for termio and sgttyPedro Alves1-1/+0
This commit garbage collects the termio and sgtty support. GDB's terminal handling code still has support for the old termio and sgtty interfaces in addition to termios. However, I think it's pretty safe to assume that for a long, long time, Unix-like systems provide termios. GNU/Linux, Solaris, Cygwin, AIX, DJGPP, macOS and the BSDs all have had termios.h for many years. Looking around the web, I found discussions about FreeBSD folks trying to get rid of old sgtty.h a decade ago: https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-hackers/2007-March/019983.html So I think support for termio and sgtty in GDB is just dead code that is never compiled anywhere and is just getting in the way. For example, serial_noflush_set_tty_state and the raw<->cooked concerns mentioned in inflow.c only exist because of sgtty (see hardwire_noflush_set_tty_state). Regtested on GNU/Linux. Confirmed that I can still build Solaris, DJGPP and AIX GDB and that the resulting GDBs still include the termios.h-guarded code. 2017-10-11Constify add_prefix_cmdTom Tromey1-2/+2
This changes add_prefix_cmd to accept a const-taking function as an argument; then fixes up all the callers. In a couple of spots I had to add a non-const overload of a function, because the function is passed to two different command-adding "constructors". These overloads are temporary; once constification is complete they can be removed. This patch also fixes a typo I happened to notice while constifying. Note that this touches a couple of files (gnu-nat.c and go32-nat.c) that I can't build. So, while I made a best-effort there, I am not certain they will still compile. 2017-09-22Import "glob" and "getcwd" modules from gnulibSergio Durigan Junior1-0/+4
These two modules are necessary because of the rework that will be done in the "change directory" logic on GDB/gdbserver in the next commits. First, we will get rid of the "gdb_dirbuf" global variable and instead rely on the fact that "getcwd (NULL, 0)", which is a GNU extension, returns a heap-allocated string with the necessary bytes to hold the full path. This is a good practice not only because globals are not ideal but also because there is no good way to know beforehand the size of the full pathname allowed in the filesystem ("PATH_MAX" is not portable and does not reflect all the possible filesystems out there). We will also have a way to "cd" to a directory also on gdbserver, but in order to do that uniformly, there must be a way to do tilde expansion on directories provided by the user. Currently, GDB uses "tilde_expand" from readline to do that, but gdbserver doesn't link against readline and therefore cannot use this function. The solution is to use "glob" instead, which can perform tilde expansion as a GNU extension. Therefore, we need gnulib's version of "glob". A special note is necessary for gdb/ser-tcp.c. It defines "close" as "closesocket" on Win32 targets. If we leave the code as is, this would conflict with gnulib's definition of "close". Therefore, in order to keep the same code path from before this import, I decided to "#undef close" first, and then let the original (re)definition of it take place. gdb/ChangeLog: 2017-09-22 Sergio Durigan Junior <sergiodj@redhat.com> * gnulib/aclocal.m4: Regenerate. * gnulib/config.in: Regenerate. * gnulib/configure: Regenerate. * gnulib/import/Makefile.am: Regenerate. * gnulib/import/Makefile.in: Regenerate. * gnulib/import/assure.h: New file. * gnulib/import/at-func.c: Likewise * gnulib/import/chdir-long.c: New file. * gnulib/import/chdir-long.h: New file. * gnulib/import/cloexec.c: New file. * gnulib/import/cloexec.h: New file. * gnulib/import/close.c: New file. * gnulib/import/closedir.c: New file. * gnulib/import/dirent-private.h: New file. * gnulib/import/dup-safer.c: New file. * gnulib/import/dup.c: New file. * gnulib/import/dup2.c: New file. * gnulib/import/error.c: New file. * gnulib/import/error.h: New file. * gnulib/import/exitfail.c: New file. * gnulib/import/exitfail.h: New file. * gnulib/import/fchdir.c: New file. * gnulib/import/fcntl.c: New file. * gnulib/import/fcntl.in.h: New file. * gnulib/import/fd-hook.c: New file. * gnulib/import/fd-hook.h: New file. * gnulib/import/fd-safer.c: New file. * gnulib/import/fdopendir.c: New file. * gnulib/import/filename.h: New file. * gnulib/import/filenamecat-lgpl.c: New file. * gnulib/import/filenamecat.h: New file. * gnulib/import/fstat.c: New file. * gnulib/import/fstatat.c: New file. * gnulib/import/getcwd-lgpl.c: New file. * gnulib/import/getcwd.c: New file. * gnulib/import/getdtablesize.c: New file. * gnulib/import/getlogin_r.c: New file. * gnulib/import/getprogname.c: New file. * gnulib/import/getprogname.h: New file. * gnulib/import/gettext.h: New file. * gnulib/import/glob-libc.h: New file. * gnulib/import/glob.c: New file. * gnulib/import/glob.in.h: New file. * gnulib/import/intprops.h: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/chdir-long.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/close.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/closedir.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/d-ino.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/d-type.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/dup.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/dup2.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/error.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/fchdir.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/fcntl.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/fcntl_h.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/fdopendir.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/filenamecat.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/fstat.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/fstatat.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/getcwd-abort-bug.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/getcwd-path-max.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/getcwd.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/getdtablesize.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/getlogin_r.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/getprogname.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/glob.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/gnulib-cache.m4: Regenerate. * gnulib/import/m4/gnulib-comp.m4: Regenerate. * gnulib/import/m4/mempcpy.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/memrchr.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/mode_t.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/msvc-inval.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/msvc-nothrow.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/open.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/openat.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/opendir.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/readdir.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/realloc.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/rewinddir.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/save-cwd.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/strdup.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/strerror.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/m4/unistd-safer.m4: New file. * gnulib/import/mempcpy.c: New file. * gnulib/import/memrchr.c: New file. * gnulib/import/msvc-inval.c: New file. * gnulib/import/msvc-inval.h: New file. * gnulib/import/msvc-nothrow.c: New file. * gnulib/import/msvc-nothrow.h: New file. * gnulib/import/open.c: New file. * gnulib/import/openat-die.c: New file. * gnulib/import/openat-priv.h: New file. * gnulib/import/openat-proc.c: New file. * gnulib/import/openat.c: New file. * gnulib/import/openat.h: New file. * gnulib/import/opendir.c: New file. * gnulib/import/pipe-safer.c: New file. * gnulib/import/readdir.c: New file. * gnulib/import/realloc.c: New file. * gnulib/import/rewinddir.c: New file. * gnulib/import/save-cwd.c: New file. * gnulib/import/save-cwd.h: New file. * gnulib/import/strdup.c: New file. * gnulib/import/strerror-override.c: New file. * gnulib/import/strerror-override.h: New file. * gnulib/import/strerror.c: New file. * gnulib/import/unistd--.h: New file. * gnulib/import/unistd-safer.h: New file. * gnulib/update-gnulib.sh (IMPORTED_GNULIB_MODULES): Add "getcwd" and "glob". * ser-tcp.c: Undefine "close" before redefining it.

2015-08-24Prepare for gnulib updatePedro Alves1-1/+1
After the last gnulib import (Dec 2012), gnulib upstream started replacing mingw's 'struct timeval' with a version with 64-bit time_t, for POSIX compliance: commit f8e84098084b3b53bc6943a5542af1f607ffd477 Author: Bruno Haible <bruno@clisp.org> Date: Sat Jan 28 18:12:10 2012 +0100 sys_time: Override 'struct timeval' on some native Windows platforms. See: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gnulib/2012-01/msg00372.html However, that results in conflicts with native Winsock2's 'select': select()'s argument http://sourceforge.net/p/mingw-w64/mailman/message/29610438/ ... and libiberty's timeval-utils.h timeval_add/timeval_sub, at the least. We don't really need the POSIX compliance, so this patch prepares us to simply not use gnulib's 'struct timeval' replacement once a more recent gnulib is imported, thus preserving the current behavior, by adding a sys/time.h wrapper header that undefs gnulib's replacements, and including that everywhere instead. The SIZE -> OSIZE change is necessary because newer gnulib's sys/time.h also includes windows.h/winsock2.h, which defines a conflicting SIZE symbol. Cross build-tested mingw-w64 32-bit and 64-bit. Regtested on x86_64 Fedora 20. gdb/ChangeLog: 2015-08-24 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * Makefile.in (HFILES_NO_SRCDIR): Add common/gdb_sys_time.h. * common/gdb_sys_time.h: New file. * event-loop.c: Include gdb_sys_time.h instead of sys/time.h. * gdb_select.h: Likewise. * gdb_usleep.c: Likewise. * maint.c: Likewise. * mi/mi-main.c: Likewise. * mi/mi-parse.h: Likewise. * remote-fileio.c: Likewise. * remote-m32r-sdi.c: Likewise. * remote.c: Likewise. * ser-base.c: Likewise. * ser-pipe.c: Likewise. * ser-tcp.c: Likewise. * ser-unix.c: Likewise. * symfile.c: Likewise. * symfile.c: Likewise. 2015-03-06New common function "startswith"Gary Benson1-2/+2
This commit introduces a new inline common function "startswith" which takes two string arguments and returns nonzero if the first string starts with the second. It also updates the 295 places where this logic was written out longhand to use the new function. gdb/ChangeLog: * common/common-utils.h (startswith): New inline function. All places where this logic was used updated to use the above.

2014-06-13make calls to help_list use enumeratorTom Tromey1-2/+2
Currently there are many calls to help_list that pass the constant -1 as the "class" value. However, the parameter is declared as being of type enum command_class, and uses of the constant violate this abstraction. This patch fixes the error everywhere it occurs in the gdb sources. Tested by rebuilding. 2014-06-13 Tom Tromey <tromey@redhat.com> * cp-support.c (maint_cplus_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * guile/guile.c (info_guile_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * tui/tui-win.c (tui_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * tui/tui-regs.c (tui_reg_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list.Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * cli/cli-dump.c (dump_command, append_command) (srec_dump_command, ihex_dump_command, tekhex_dump_command) (binary_dump_command, binary_append_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * cli/cli-cmds.c (info_command, set_debug): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * valprint.c (set_print, set_print_raw): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * typeprint.c (set_print_type): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * top.c (set_history): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * target-descriptions.c (set_tdesc_cmd, unset_tdesc_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * symfile.c (overlay_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * spu-tdep.c (info_spu_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * serial.c (serial_set_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * ser-tcp.c (set_tcp_cmd, show_tcp_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * remote.c (remote_command, set_remote_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * ravenscar-thread.c (set_ravenscar_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * maint.c (maintenance_command, maintenance_info_command) (maintenance_print_command, maintenance_set_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * macrocmd.c (macro_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * language.c (set_check): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * infcmd.c (unset_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * frame.c (set_backtrace_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * dwarf2read.c (set_dwarf2_cmd): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * dcache.c (set_dcache_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * breakpoint.c (save_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list. * ada-lang.c (maint_set_ada_cmd, set_ada_command): Pass all_commands, not -1, to help_list.

2013-12-19don't allocate serial_opsTom Tromey1-25/+31
Now that struct serial_ops is const everywhere, we can easily turn the instances into globals. This patch implements this idea. On the one hand I think this is nicer since it makes a bit more data readonly and slightly reduces allocations. On the other hand it reduces readability somewhat. If the readability is a concern to anyone I was thinking I could write a macro that conditionally uses GCC's designated initializer extension. Tested by rebuilding on x86-64 Fedora 18, both natively and using the mingw cross tools. 2013-12-19 Tom Tromey <tromey@redhat.com> * ser-unix.c (hardwire_ops): New global. 2013-12-19make serial_ops constTom Tromey1-1/+0
I noticed that the serial_ops vtable is not const, but really it ought to be. This patch constifies it, removing the only mutable field in the process. 2013-04-10Accept "set foo unlimited" in integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands.Pedro Alves1-4/+7
Currently, several commands take "0" or "-1" to mean "unlimited". "show" knows when to print "unlimited": (gdb) show height Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is 45. (gdb) set height 0 (gdb) show height Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is unlimited. However, the user can't herself specify "unlimited" directly: (gdb) set height unlimited No symbol table is loaded. Use the "file" command. (gdb) This patch addresses that, by adjusting the set handler for all integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands to accept literal "unlimited". It also installs a completer. Presently, we complete on symbols by default, and at <http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-03/msg00864.html> I've shown a WIP prototype that tried to keep that half working in these commands. In the end, it turned out to be more complicated than justifiable, IMO. It's super rare to want to pass the value of a variable/symbol in the program to a GDB set/show knob. That'll still work, it's just that we won't assist with completion anymore. This patch just sticks with the simple, and completes on "unlimited", and nothing else. This simplification means that "set he<tab><tab>" is all it takes to get to: "set height unlimited" The patch then goes through all integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands in the tree, and updates both the online help and the manual to mention that "unlimited" is accepted in addition to 0/-1. In the cases where the command had no online help text at all, this adds it. I've tried to make the texts read in a way that "unlimited" is suggested before "0" or "-1" is. Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17. gdb/ 2013-04-10 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * cli/cli-decode.c (integer_unlimited_completer): New function. 2013-03-26ser-tcp.c: Small signed->unsigned cleanup.Pedro Alves1-2/+2
The "set tcp connect-timeout" variable is unsigned: /* Timeout period for connections, in seconds. */ static unsigned int tcp_retry_limit = 15; And used like: /* Check for timeout. */ if (*polls > tcp_retry_limit * POLL_INTERVAL) { errno = ETIMEDOUT; return -1; } Which made me stop and look over why is it that 'polls' is signed. What I found is there's really no reason. gdb/ 2013-03-26 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * ser-tcp.c (wait_for_connect): Make 'polls' parameter unsigned. (net_open): Make 'polls' local unsigned.
2013-03-07ser-tcp.c:tcp_retry_limit: Change type to unsigned int.Pedro Alves1-1/+1
tcp_retry_limit is installed as variable of an unsigned command: add_setshow_uinteger_cmd ("connect-timeout", class_obscure, &tcp_retry_limit, _("\ and I found no uses of the variable treating it as signed (like < 0 checks or some such). 2013-03-07 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * ser-tcp.c (tcp_retry_limit): Change type to unsigned int.
