It seems to me that a notif_client is read-only, so this patch changes
the code to use "const" everywhere.
|
|
This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.
|
|
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.
|
|
This commits adds a new sub-class of gdb.TargetConnection,
gdb.RemoteTargetConnection. This sub-class is created for all
'remote' and 'extended-remote' targets.
This new sub-class has one additional method over its base class,
'send_packet'. This new method is equivalent to the 'maint
packet' CLI command, it allows a custom packet to be sent to a remote
target.
The outgoing packet can either be a bytes object, or a Unicode string,
so long as the Unicode string contains only ASCII characters.
The result of calling RemoteTargetConnection.send_packet is a bytes
object containing the reply that came from the remote.
|
|
In a later commit I will add a Python API to access the 'maint packet'
functionality, that is, sending a user specified packet to the target.
To make implementing this easier, this commit refactors how this
command is currently implemented so that the packet_command function
is now global.
The new global send_remote_packet function takes an object that is an
implementation of an abstract interface. Two functions within this
interface are then called, one just before a packet is sent to the
remote target, and one when the reply has been received from the
remote target. Using an interface object in this way allows (1) for
the error checking to be done before the first callback is made, this
means we only print out what packet it being sent once we know we are
going to actually send it, and (2) we don't need to make a copy of the
reply if all we want to do is print it.
One user visible changes after this commit are the error
messages, which I've changed to be less 'maint packet' command
focused, this will make them (I hope) better for when
send_remote_packet can be called from Python code.
So: "command can only be used with remote target"
Becomes: "packets can only be sent to a remote target"
And: "remote-packet command requires packet text as argument"
Becomes: "a remote packet must not be empty"
Additionally, in this commit, I've added support for packet replies
that contain binary data. Before this commit, the code that printed
the reply treated the reply as a C string, it assumed that the string
only contained printable characters, and had a null character only at
the end.
One way to show the problem with this is if we try to read the auxv
data from a remote target, the auxv data is binary, so, before this
commit:
(gdb) target remote :54321
...
(gdb) maint packet qXfer:auxv:read::0,1000
sending: "qXfer:auxv:read::0,1000"
received: "l!"
(gdb)
And after this commit:
(gdb) target remote :54321
...
(gdb) maint packet qXfer:auxv:read::0,1000
sending: "qXfer:auxv:read::0,1000"
received: "l!\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\xf0\xfc\xf7\xff\x7f\x00\x00\x10\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\xff\xf>
(gdb)
The binary contents of the reply are now printed as escaped hex.

Occassionally I run into the following assert:
...
(gdb) PASS: gdb.multi/multi-target-continue.exp: inferior 5
Remote debugging from host ::1, port 49990^M
Process multi-target-continue created; pid = 31241^M
src/gdb/remote-notif.c:113: internal-error: \
void remote_async_get_pending_events_handler(gdb_client_data): \
Assertion `target_is_non_stop_p ()' failed.^M
...
The assert checks target_is_non_stop_p, which is related to the current
target.
Fix this by changing the assert such that it checks non-stopness related to
the event it's handling.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

This is the next in the new-style debug macro series.
For this one, I decided to omit the function name from the "Sending packet" /
"Packet received" kind of prints, just because it's not very useful in that
context and hinders readability more than anything else. This is completely
arbitrary.
This is with:
[remote] putpkt_binary: Sending packet: $qTStatus#49...
[remote] getpkt_or_notif_sane_1: Packet received: T0;tnotrun:0;tframes:0;tcreated:0;tfree:500000;tsize:500000;circular:0;disconn:0;starttime:0;stoptime:0;username:;notes::
and without:
[remote] Sending packet: $qTStatus#49...
[remote] Packet received: T0;tnotrun:0;tframes:0;tcreated:0;tfree:500000;tsize:500000;circular:0;disconn:0;starttime:0;stoptime:0;username:;notes::
A difference is that previously, the query packet and its reply would be
printed on the same line, like this:
Sending packet: $qTStatus#49...Packet received: T0;tnotrun:0;tframes:0;tcreated:0;tfree:500000;tsize:500000;circular:0;disconn:0;starttime:0;stoptime:0;username:;notes::
Now, they are printed on two lines, since each remote_debug_printf{,_nofunc}
prints its own complete message including an end of line. It's probably
a matter of taste, but I prefer the two-line version, it's easier to
follow, especially when the query packet is long.
As a result, lib/range-stepping-support.exp needs to be updated, as it
currently expects the vCont packet and the reply to be on the same line.
I think it's sufficient in that context to just expect the vCont packet
and not the reply, since the goal is just to count how many vCont;r GDB
sends.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* remote.h (remote_debug_printf): New.
(remote_debug_printf_nofunc): New.
(REMOTE_SCOPED_DEBUG_ENTER_EXIT): New.
* remote.c: Use above macros throughout file.

func.

As far as I can see, there are no more spots looking for a remote_debug
other than true/false. If we ever want to revert to an int, we can
always change it back later, but this makes things simpler for now.

* remote.h (remote_debug): Change to bool.
* remote.c (remote_debug): Change to bool.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

'struct remote_state' today contains per-connection state, however
there's only a single global instance of that type. In order to
support multiple connections, we must have one such object per
connection.
Thus this patch eliminates the 'remote_state' global in favor of
having a remote_state instance per remote_target instance.
The get_remote_state free function is eliminated as well, by making it
a remote_target method instead.
The patch then fixes the fallout by making all free functions that
refer to get_remote_state() directly or indirectly be methods of
remote_target too.
Likewise, remote-fileio.c and remote-notif.c routines are
parameterized with a remote_target pointer too, so they can call into
the right remote_target instance.
References to the global 'get_remote_state ()->remote_desc' to tell
whether the remote target is open (!= nullptr) must be replaced with
something else:
- Command implementations use a new get_current_remote_target free
function.
- remote_target::open_1 checks the exception type instead.
Finally, remote_target and extended_remote_target are made
heap-allocated targets. As with the earlier core target patches, it
still won't be possible to have more than one remote_target instance
in practice, but this puts us closer.

This moves various low-level remote serial protocol bits into
common/rsp-low.[ch].
This is as close to a pure move as possible. There are some
redundancies remaining but those will be dealt with in a subsequent
patch.
Note that the two variants of remote_escape_output disagreed on the
treatment of "*". On the theory that quoting cannot hurt but the
absence possibly can, I chose the gdbserver variant to be the
canonical one.

drive specs.
I tried debugging a remote Windows program on Linux host, and pointed the
sysroot to "/some/path/" rather than "remote:", and I found GDB couldn't
find the dlls in the sysroot. If the dll name is
"C:/Windows/system32/ntdll.dll", I end up with the sysroot+in_pathname
concatenated this way:
(top-gdb) p temp_pathname
$1 = 0x228b690 "/some/pathC:/Windows/system32/ntdll.dll"
^^
That is, a directory separator is missing. This is a regression.
The problem is that solib_find decides that since the target path has
a drive spec, a separator is not necessary, which is clearly wrong in
this case. That check was added in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-06/msg00028.html>, to
handle the case of sysroot being "remote:". This patch fixes that
original issue in a different way. Instead of checking whether the
path has a drive spec, check whether the sysroot is "remote:". The
patch adds a table that helps visualize the cases that need a
separator. I also confirmed the original issue is still handled as
expected. That is, that "set sysroot remote:" still does the right
thing.
remote_filename_p returns true if the filename is prefixed with
"remote:". In this case, we need to check whether the filename is
exactly "remote:". I thought of different ways or either changing
remote_filename_p or adding another convenience function to remote.c
to avoid exposing the "remote:" prefix out of remote.c. But all
attempts turned out adding lot of over needless complication. So the
patch just exposes the prefix behind a new macro, which allows using a
straighforward strcmp.
