2022-03-22nat: Split out platform-independent aarch64 debug register support.John Baldwin1-2/+2
Move non-Linux-specific support for hardware break/watchpoints from nat/aarch64-linux-hw-point.c to nat/aarch64-hw-point.c. Changes beyond a simple split of the code are: - aarch64_linux_region_ok_for_watchpoint and aarch64_linux_any_set_debug_regs_state renamed to drop linux_ as they are not platform specific. - Platforms must implement the aarch64_notify_debug_reg_change function which is invoked from the platform-independent code when a debug register changes for a given debug register state. This does not use the indirection of a 'low' structure as is done for x86. - The handling for kernel_supports_any_contiguous_range is not pristine. For non-Linux it is simply defined to true. Some uses of this could perhaps be implemented as new 'low' routines for the various places that check it instead? - Pass down ptid into aarch64_handle_breakpoint and aarch64_handle_watchpoint rather than using current_lwp_ptid which is only defined on Linux. In addition, pass the ptid on to aarch64_notify_debug_reg_change instead of the unused state argument.

2019-07-09Rename common to gdbsupportTom Tromey1-2/+2
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the top level. This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit more tractable. I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too much difficulty. 2019-01-23AArch64: Ensure lwp info is created zeroedAlan Hayward1-1/+1
The code to not set empty hardware BPs/WPs on new threads will only work if the newly allocated struct is empty. Ensure the structure is created zeroed. This patch removes the remaining racy behaviour on gdb.threads tests when run on AArch64 Ubuntu. gdb/ChangeLog: * nat/aarch64-linux.c (aarch64_linux_new_thread): Replace XNEW with XCNEW.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

On some heavily loaded AArch64 boxes, GDB will sometimes hang forever when the inferior creates a thread. This hang happens inside the kernel during the ptrace call to set hardware watchpoints or hardware breakpoints. Currently, GDB will always set hw wp/bp at the start of each thread even if there are none set in the process. This patch works around the issue by avoiding setting hw wp/bp if there are none set for the process. On an effected machine, this fix drastically reduces the racy nature of the gdb.threads test set. I ran the entire gdb test suite across all processors for 100 iterations, then ran the results through the racy tests script. Without the patch, 58 .exp files in gdb.threads were marked as racy. After the patch this reduced to the same ~14 tests as the non effected boxes. Clearly GDB will still be subject to hangs on an effect box if hw wp/bp's are used prior to creating inferior threads on a heavily loaded system. To enable this in gdbserver, the sequence in gdbserver add_lwp() is switched to the same as gdb order as gdb, to ensure the thread is registered before calling new_thread(). I have the goal of "poisoning" the XNEW/xfree-family of functions, so that we catch their usages with non-POD types. A few things need to be fixed in the mean time, this is one. The common lwp code in linux-nat.c and gdbserver/linux-low.c xfrees the private lwp data of type arch_lwp_info. However, that type is opaque from its point of view, as its defined differently in each arch-specific implementation. This trips on the std::is_pod<T> check, since the compiler can't tell whether the type is POD or not if it doesn't know about it. My initial patch [1] made a class hierarchy with a virtual destructor. However, as Pedro pointed out, we only have one native architecture at the time built in gdb and gdbserver, so that's overkill. Instead, we can move the responsibility of free'ing arch_lwp_info to the arch code (which is also the one that allocated it in the first place). This is what this patch does. Also, I had the concern that if we wanted to use C++ features in these structures, we would have a problem with the one-definition rule. However, since a build will only have one version of arch_lwp_info, that's not a problem. On default build this is not the issue and current g++ does not trigger any issue with this mismatch declaration. However, on some bootstrap build configuration where gdbserver is build with gcc instead this triggers: error: conflicting types for 'ps_get_thread_area' This patch fixes it by syncing the declaration with GLIBC. This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be possible to do scripted replacements if needed. I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or multiple "objects".
