Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.
So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).
One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.
Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.
The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
Adds some MI commands to catch C++ exceptions. The new commands are
-catch-throw, -catch-rethrow, and -catch-catch, these all correspond
to the CLI commands 'catch throw', 'catch rethrow', and 'catch catch'.
Each MI command takes two optional arguments, '-t' has the effect of
calling 'tcatch' instead of 'catch', for example:
(gdb)
-catch-throw -t
Is the same as:
(gdb) tcatch throw
There is also a '-r REGEXP' argument that can supply a regexp to match
against the exception type, so:
(gdb)
-catch-catch -r PATTERN
Is the same as:
(gdb) catch catch PATTERN
The change in print_mention_exception_catchpoint might seem a little
strange; changing the output from using ui_out::field_int and
ui_out::text to using ui_out::message.
The print_mention_exception_catchpoint is used as the 'print_mention'
method for the exception catchpoint breakpoint object. Most of the
other 'print_mention' methods (see breakpoint.c) use either
printf_filtered, of ui_out::message. Using field_int was causing an
unexpected field to be added to the MI output. Here's the output
without the change in print_mention_exception_catchpoint:
(gdb)
-catch-throw
^done,bkptno="1",bkpt={number="1",type="breakpoint",disp="keep",
enabled="y",addr="0x00000000004006c0",
what="exception throw",catch-type="throw",
thread-groups=["i1"],times="0"}
Notice the breakpoint number appears in both the 'bkptno' field, and
the 'number' field within the 'bkpt' tuple. Here's the output with
the change in print_mention_exception_catchpoint:
(gdb)
-catch-throw
^done,bkpt={number="1",type="breakpoint",disp="keep",
enabled="y",addr="0x00000000004006c0",
what="exception throw",catch-type="throw",
thread-groups=["i1"],times="0"}
gdb/ChangeLog:

message.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

This changes ada_catchpoint::excep_string to be a std::string and then
fixes up all t he users.
This found a memory leak in catch_ada_exception_command_split, where
"cond" was copied but never freed.
I changed the type of the "cond_string" argument to
catch_ada_exception_command_split to follow the rule that out
parameters should be pointers and not references.
This patch enables the removal of some cleanups and also the function
ada_get_next_arg.
ChangeLog
2018-05-21 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com>
* mi/mi-cmd-catch.c (mi_cmd_catch_assert)
(mi_cmd_catch_exception, mi_cmd_catch_handlers): Update.
* ada-lang.h (create_ada_exception_catchpoint): Update.
* ada-lang.c (struct ada_catchpoint) <excep_string>: Now a
std::string.

(should_stop_exception, print_one_exception)
(print_mention_exception, print_recreate_exception): Update.
(ada_get_next_arg): Remove.
(catch_ada_exception_command_split): Use std::string. Change type
of "excep_string", "cond_string".
(catch_ada_exception_command): Update.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files
|
|
This patch gets rid of catch_exceptions / catch_exceptions_with_msg.
The latter is done mostly by getting rid of the three remaining
vestigial libgdb wrapper functions, which are really pointless
nowadays. This results in a good number of simplifications.
(I checked that Insight doesn't use those functions.)
The gdb.mi/mi-pthreads.exp change is necessary because this actually
fixes a bug, IMO -- the patch stops MI's -thread-select causing output
on the CLI stream.
I.e., before:
-thread-select 123456789
&"Thread ID 123456789 not known.\n"
^error,msg="Thread ID 123456789 not known."
(gdb)
After:
-thread-select 123456789
^error,msg="Thread ID 123456789 not known."
(gdb)

When using the GDB/MI commands to insert a catchpoint on a specific
Ada exception, any re-evaluation of that catchpoint (for instance
a re-evaluation performed after a shared library got mapped by the
inferior) fails. For instance, with any Ada program:
(gdb)
-catch-exception -e program_error
^done,bkptno="1",bkpt={[...]}
(gdb)
-exec-run
=thread-group-started,id="i1",pid="28315"
=thread-created,id="1",group-id="i1"
^running
*running,thread-id="all"
(gdb)
=library-loaded,[...]
&"warning: failed to reevaluate internal exception condition for catchpoint 1: No definition of \"exec\" in current context.\n"
&"warning: failed to reevaluate internal exception condition for catchpoint 1: No definition of \"exec\" in current context.\n"
[...]
The same is true if using an Ada exception catchpoint.
The problem comes from the fact that that we deallocate the strings
given as arguments to create_ada_exception_catchpoint, while the latter
just makes shallow copies of those strings, thus creating dandling
pointers.
This patch fixes the issue by passing freshly allocated strings to
create_ada_exception_catchpoint, while at the same time updating
create_ada_exception_catchpoint's documentation to make it clear
that deallocating the strings is no longer the responsibility of
the caller.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* ada-lang.c (create_ada_exception_catchpoint): Enhance
the documentation of fields "except_string" and "condition".
* mi/mi-cmd-catch.c (mi_cmd_catch_assert): Reallocate
CONDITION on the heap before passing it to
create_ada_exception_catchpoint.
(mi_cmd_catch_exception): Likewise for EXCEPTION_NAME and
CONDITION.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
* gdb.ada/mi_ex_cond: New testcase.
Tested on x86_64-linux. The "-break-list" test FAILs without
this patch.
