Now that filtered and unfiltered output can be treated identically, we
can unify the printf family of functions. This is done under the name
"gdb_printf". Most of this patch was written by script.

This patch adds support for wild template parameter list matches, similar
to how ABI tags or function overloads are now handled.
With this patch, users will be able to "gloss over" the details of matching
template parameter lists. This is accomplished by adding (yet more) logic
to strncmp_iw_with_mode to skip parameter lists if none is explicitly given
by the user.
Here's a simple example using gdb.linespec/cpls-ops.exp:

Similar to how scope lookups work, passing "-qualified" to the break command
will cause a literal lookup of the symbol. In the example immediately above,
this will cause GDB to only find the three non-template functions.

find_toplevel_char is being used more and more outside of linespec.c, so
this patch moves it into cp-support.[ch].

Many otherwise ordinary commands choose to use unfiltered output
rather than filtered. I don't think there's any reason for this, so
this changes many such commands to use filtered output instead.
Note that complete_command is not touched due to a comment there
explaining why unfiltered output is believed to be used.

This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.

There are some loops in gdb that use ARRAY_SIZE (or a wordier
equivalent) to loop over a static array. This patch changes some of
these to use foreach instead.
Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 34.

I noticed that some methods in language_defn could use
unique_xmalloc_ptr<char> rather than a plain 'char *'. This patch
implements this change, fixing up the fallout and changing
gdb_demangle to also return this type. In one spot, std::string is
used to simplify some related code, and in another, an auto_obstack is
used to avoid manual management.
Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 34.

I noticed that pointer_type is declared in language.h and defined in
language.c. However, it really has to do with types, so it should
have been in gdbtypes.h all along.
This patch changes it to be a method on struct type. And, I went
through uses of TYPE_IS_REFERENCE and updated many spots to use the
new method as well. (I didn't update ones that were in arch-specific
code, as I couldn't readily test that.)

Same idea as previous patch, but for add_alias_cmd. Remove the overload
that accepts the target command as a string (the target command name),
leaving only the one that takes the cmd_list_element.

Previously, the prefixname field of struct cmd_list_element was manually
set for prefix commands. This seems verbose and error prone as it
required every single call to functions adding prefix commands to
specify the prefix name while the same information can be easily
generated.
Historically, this was not possible as the prefix field was null for
many commands, but this was fixed in commit
3f4d92ebdf7f848b5ccc9e8d8e8514c64fde1183 by Philippe Waroquiers, so
we can rely on the prefix field being set when generating the prefix
name.
This commit also fixes a use after free in this scenario:
* A command gets created via Python (using the gdb.Command class).
The prefix name member is dynamically allocated.
* An alias to the new command is created. The alias's prefixname is set
to point to the prefixname for the original command with a direct
assignment.
* A new command with the same name as the Python command is created.
* The object for the original Python command gets freed and its
prefixname gets freed as well.
* The alias is updated to point to the new command, but its prefixname
is not updated so it keeps pointing to the freed one.

This introduces wrappers for each function in quick_symbol_functions.
The wrappers are methods on objfile, and are defined in
symfile-debug.c, so that they can use the symfile_debug variable.
Places that call the quick functions are all updated to call these new
wrapper methods.

This avoids using a thread-local extern variable, which causes link errors
on some platforms, notably Cygwin. But I think this is a better pattern
even outside of working around linker bugs because it encapsulates direct
access to the variable inside the class, instead of having a global extern
variable.

Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.
So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).
One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.
Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.
The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

This commit changes the language_data::la_sniff_from_mangled_name
function pointer member variable into a member function of
language_defn.
Previously the la_sniff_from_mangled_name pointer was NULL for some
languages, however, all uses of this function pointer were through the
function language_sniff_from_mangled_name which provided a default
implementation.
This default implementation now becomes the implementation in the base
class language_defn, which is then overridden as required in various
language sub-classes.
There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

GDB currently crashes with infinite recursion, if you set a breakpoint
on a function inside a namespace that includes a template on its fully
qualified name, and, the template's name is also used as typedef in
the global scope that expands to a name that includes the template
name in its qualified name. For example, from the testcase added by
this commit:

The recursion starts at replace_typedefs_qualified_name, which doesn't
handle the "template" node, and thus doesn't realize that the template
name actually has the fully qualified name NS1::NS2::Templ1.
replace_typedefs_qualified_name calls into replace_typedefs on the
template node, and that ends up in inspect_type looking up for a
symbol named "Templ1", which finds the global namespace typedef, which
itself expands to NS1::NS2::Templ1. GDB then tries replacing typedefs
in that newly expanded name, which ends up again in
replace_typedefs_qualified_name, trying to expand a fully qualified
name with "NS::NS2::Templ1<unsigned>" in its name, which results in
recursion whenever the template node is reached.
Fix this by teaching replace_typedefs_qualified_name how to handle
template nodes. It needs handling in two places: the first spot
handles the symbol above; the second spot handles a symbol like this,
from the new test:

What's different in this case is that the template node appears on the
right child node of a qualified name, instead of on the left child.
The testcase includes a test that checks whether template aliases are
correctly replaced by GDB too. That fails with GCC due to GCC PR
95437, which makes GDB not know about a typedef for
"NS1::NS2::AliasTempl<int>". GCC emits a typedef named
"NS1::NS2::AliasTempl" instead, with no template parameter info. The
test passes with Clang (5.0.2 at least). See more details here:

I noticed that cp_canonicalize_string and friends copy a
unique_xmalloc_ptr to a std::string. However, this copy isn't
genuinely needed anywhere, and it serves to slow down DWARF psymbol
reading.
This patch removes the copy and updates the callers to adapt.
This speeds up the reader from 1.906 seconds (mean of 10 runs, of gdb
on a copy of itself) to 1.888 seconds (mean of 10 runs, on the same
copy as the first trial).

Currently there are many prefix commands that do nothing but call
either help_list or cmd_show_list. I happened to notice that one such
call, for "set print type", used the wrong command list parameter,
causing incorrect output.
Rather than fix this bug in isolation, I decided to eliminate this
possibility by adding two new ways to add prefix commands, which
simply route the call to help_list or cmd_show_list, as appropriate.
This makes it impossible for a mismatch to occur.
In some cases, a bit of output was removed; however, I don't think
this output in general was very useful. It seemed redundant with
what's already printed by help_list. A representative example is this
hunk, removed from ada-lang.c:
- printf_unfiltered (_(\
-"\"set ada\" must be followed by the name of a setting.\n"));
This simplified the CLI style set/show commands quite a bit, and
allowed the deletion of a macro.
This also cleans up some unusual code in windows-tdep.c.
Tested on x86-64 Fedora 30. Note that I have no way to build the
go32-nat.c change.

I'd like to enable the -Wmissing-declarations warning. However, it

I found a couple of unnecessary backslashes in gdb. This removes
them.
Offhand, I wonder whether this abstract_to_concrete thing could be
done some other way? This seems possibly expensive.
Anyway, tested by rebuilding. I'm going to check this in as obvious.

Christian pointed out on irc that the threading series broke the build
on mingw. This patch fixes the problem, by moving the initialization
of gdb_demangle_attempt_core_dump into the appropriate #if.

The gdb demangler installs a SIGSEGV handler in order to protect gdb
from demangler bugs. However, this is not thread-safe, as signal
handlers are global to the process.
This patch changes gdb to always install a global SIGSEGV handler, and
then lets threads indicate their interest in handling the signal by
setting a thread-local variable.
This patch then arranges for the demangler code to use this; being
sure to arrange for calls to warning and the like to be done on the
main thread.
One thing I wondered while writing this patch is if there are any
systems that do not have "sigaction". If gdb could assume this, it
would simplify this code.

This adds configury support and an RAII class that can be used to
temporarily block signals that are used by gdb. (This class is not
used in this patch, but it split out for easier review.)
The idea of this patch is that these signals should only be delivered
to the main thread. So, when creating a background thread, they are
temporarily blocked; the blocked state is inherited by the new thread.
The sigprocmask man page says:
The use of sigprocmask() is unspecified in a multithreaded
process; see pthread_sigmask(3).
This patch changes gdb to use pthread_sigmask when appropriate, by
introducing a convenience define.
I've updated gdbserver as well, because I had to touch gdbsupport, and
because the threading patches will make it link against the thread
library.
I chose not to touch the NTO code, because I don't know anything about
that platform and because I cannot test it.
Finally, this modifies an existing spot in the Guile layer to use the
new facility.

Saving the signal state is very slow (this patch is a 14% speedup). The
reason we need this code is because signal handler will leave the
signal blocked when we longjmp out of it. But in this case we can
just manually unblock the signal instead of taking the unconditional
perf hit.

This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.
This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.
I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.
Tested by the buildbot.

Adds an utility function to make it shorter to write the common case
of wrapping an xstrdup with a unique_xmalloc_ptr, and uses it
throughout.
Note: I tried to put this in common/common-utils.h near skip_spaces,
etc. but that is included in common/common-defs.h before
common/gdb_unique_ptr.h is included, so it would fail to compile
because gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr isn't defined at that point yet. I
tried moving the gdb_unique_ptr.h inclusion before common-utils.h, but
that doesn't work because gdb_unique_ptr.h depends on common-utils.h
for xfree.

This bug finds another usage where we end up segfaulting while
normalizing user input. inspect_type and replace_type recurse,
attempting to substitute the "real" symbol name for the typedef name.
However, since the both these names are the same, they keep calling
each other until the stack overflows.

Segmentation fault
inspect_type already contains some special handling to prevent a
similar situation from occurring with namespaces. I wonder, however,
whether we need be so pedantic about the exact nature of the substitution.
This patch implements this rather more aggressive assumption that these
substitutions should be avoided whenever the replacement symbol's name is
exactly the same as the one we're trying to substitute. [In the above
example, we're trying to substitute the tyepdef named "foo" with the symbol
named "foo" (a struct).]

This renames the gdb exception types. The old types were only needed
due to the macros in common-exception.h that are now gone.
The intermediate layer of gdb_exception_RETURN_MASK_ALL did not seem
needed, so this patch removes it entirely.

Andreas Schwab and John Baldwin pointed out some bugs in the header
sorting patch; and I noticed that the output was not correct when
limited to a subset of files (a bug in my script).
So, I'm reverting the patch. I may try again after fixing the issues
pointed out.

The patch was written by a script.
Tested by the buildbot.

I noticed that there are still many places referring to non-const
blocks. This constifies all the remaining ones that I found that
could be constified.
In a few spots, this search found unused variables or fields. I
removed these. I've also removed some unnecessary casts to
"struct block *".

This patch changes cp-support.c:cp_func_name to return a
'gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr<char>' instead of a 'char *'. This allows a
cleanup to be removed from valops.c:find_overload_match.
