This factors out all the yy-variables remapping to a single file,
instead of each parser having to do the same, with different prefixes.
With this, a parser just needs to define the prefix they want and
include yy-remap.h, which does the dirty job.
Note this renames the c_error, ada_error, etc. functions. Writing the
remapping pattern as:
#define yyerror GDB_YY_REMAP (error)
instead of:
#define yyerror GDB_YY_REMAP (yyerror)
would have avoided the renaming. However, that would be problematic
if we have a macro 'foo' in scope, when we write:
#define yyfoo GDB_YY_REMAP (foo)
as that would expand 'foo'.
The c_yyerror etc. naming end ups indicating that this is a yacc
related function more clearly, so feels like a good change, anyway.

The recent libiberty import of upstream obstack.h (314dee8ea9be) makes
obstack_base return a 'void *', with the consequence that a few places

Years ago, these functions used to return errno/EIO. Later, through a
series of changes that intended to remove native/remote differences,
they ended up returning a target_xfer_status in disguise.
Unlike target_xfer_partial&co, the point of target_read_memory&co is
to either fully succeed or fail. On error, they always return
TARGET_XFER_E_IO. So there's no real point in casting the return of
target_read_memory to a target_xfer_status to pass it to memory_error.
Instead, it results in clearer code to simply decouple
target_read_memory&co's return from target_xfer_status.
This fixes build errors like this in C++ mode:
../../src/gdb/corefile.c: In function ‘void read_stack(CORE_ADDR, gdb_byte*, ssize_t)’:
../../src/gdb/corefile.c:276:34: error: invalid conversion from ‘int’ to ‘target_xfer_status’ [-fpermissive]
memory_error (status, memaddr);
^
../../src/gdb/corefile.c:216:1: error: initializing argument 1 of ‘void memory_error(target_xfer_status, CORE_ADDR)’ [-fpermissive]

Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the
allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when
assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case
more often than not).
The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit
"(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I
validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to
make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I
could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc.
Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing
it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time.
Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This
means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be
dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to
build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't
know.
I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.
Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the
size, thanks to David Malcom's script. I fixed some bits by hand, but
there might be some wrong parts left (hopefully not).

This is a patch I extracted from Pedro's C++ branch. It contains the
most trivial enum fixes, where an integer type/value was used instead
of the appropriate enum type/value. It fixes many C++ errors, since
in C++ you can't mix integers and enums implicitely.
Regardless of the C++ conversion, I think this is a good cleanup to make
use of the appropriate enum types.
Regression-tested on native x86_64.

I think that the CHECK_TYPEDEF macro is not necessary, and even a bit
annoying. It makes unclear the fact that the "type" variables gets
overwritten. It has actually bitten me a few times. I think the
following, explicit form, is better.
type = check_typedef (type);
This patches changes all instances of CHECK_TYPEDEF for an equivalent
call to check_typedef. The bulk of the change was done with this sed:
sed -i 's/CHECK_TYPEDEF (\([^)]*\));/\1 = check_typedef (\1);/' <file>.c
The ChangeLog was generated using David Malcom's generate_changelog.py.
I manually fixed those places where it gets the wrong function name,
hopefully all of them.
The patch was built-tested, and I ran a few smoke tests.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update year range in copyright notice of all files.
|
|
This final patch adds the new "compile" command and subcommands, and
all the machinery needed to make it work.
A shared library supplied by gcc is used for all communications with
gcc. Types and most aspects of symbols are provided directly by gdb
to the compiler using this library.
gdb provides some information about the user's code using plain text.
Macros are emitted this way, and DWARF location expressions (and
bounds for VLA) are compiled to C code.
This hybrid approach was taken because, on the one hand, it is better
to provide global declarations and such on demand; but on the other
hand, for local variables, translating DWARF location expressions to C
was much simpler than exporting a full compiler API to gdb -- the same
result, only easier to implement, understand, and debug.
In the ordinary mode, the user's expression is wrapped in a dummy
function. After compilation, gdb inserts the resulting object code
into the inferior, then calls this function.
Access to local variables is provided by noting which registers are
used by location expressions, and passing a structure of register
values into the function. Writes to registers are supported by
copying out these values after the function returns.
This approach was taken so that we could eventually implement other
more interesting features based on this same infrastructure; for
example, we're planning to investigate inferior-side breakpoint
conditions.

This removes gdb_string.h. This patch is purely mechanical. I
created it by running the two commands:
git rm common/gdb_string.h
perl -pi -e's/"gdb_string.h"/<string.h>/;' *.[chyl] */*.[chyl]

This is a follow-up series to move language stuff out of varobj.c.
This patch adds a new field la_varobj_ops in struct language_defn so
that each language has varobj-related options. Not every language
supports varobj, and the operations are identical to operations of c
languages.
'struct language_defn' is the ideal place to save all language-related
operations. After this patch, some cleanups can be done in patch 2/2,
which removes language-related stuff completely from varobj.c.
Regression tested on x86_64-linux.

target_read_memory & friends build on top of target_read (thus on top
of the target_xfer machinery), but turn all errors to EIO, an errno
value. I think we'd better convert all these to return a
target_xfer_error too, like target_xfer_partial in a previous patch.
The patch starts by doing that.
(The patch does not add a enum target_xfer_error value for '0'/no
error, and likewise does not change the return type of several of
these functions to enum target_xfer_error, because different functions
return '0' with different semantics.)
I audited the tree for memory_error calls, EIO checks, places where
GDB hardcodes 'errno = EIO', and also for strerror calls. What I
found is that nowadays there's really no need to handle random errno
values, other than the EIOs gdb itself hardcodes. No doubt errno
values would appear in common code back in the day when
target_xfer_memory was the main interface to access memory, but
nowadays, any errno value that deprecated interface could return is
just absorved by default_xfer_partial:
else if (xfered == 0 && errno == 0)
/* "deprecated_xfer_memory" uses 0, cross checked against
ERRNO as one indication of an error. */
return 0;
else
return -1;
There are two places in the code that check for EIO and print "out of
bounds", and defer to strerror for other errors. That's
c-lang.c:c_get_string, and valprint.c.:val_print_string. AFAICT, the
strerror branch can never be reached nowadays, as the only error
possible to get at those points is EIO, given that it's GDB itself
that set that errno value (in target_read_memory, etc.).
breakpoint.c:insert_bp_location always prints the error val as if an
errno, returned by target_insert_breakpoint, with strerr. Now the
error here is either always EIO for mem-break.c targets (again
hardcoded by the target_read_memory/target_write_memory functions), so
this always prints "Input/output error" or similar (depending on
host), or, for remote targets (and probably others), this gem:
Error accessing memory address 0x80200400: Unknown error -1.
This patch makes these 3 places print the exact same error
memory_error prints. This changes output, but I think this is better,
for making memory error output consistent with other commands, and, it
means we have a central place to tweak for memory errors.
E.g., this changes:
Cannot insert breakpoint 1.
Error accessing memory address 0x5fc660: Input/output error.
to:
Cannot insert breakpoint 1.
Cannot access memory at address 0x5fc660
Which I find pretty much acceptable.
Surprisingly, only py-prettyprint.exp had a regression, for needing an
adjustment. I also grepped the testsuite for the old errors, and
found no other hits.
Now that errno values aren't used anywhere in any of these memory
access related routines, I made memory_error itself take a
target_xfer_error instead of an errno. The new
target_xfer_memory_error function added recently is no longer
necessary, and is thus removed.
Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17, native and gdbserver.

The purpose of this patch is to better support renamings in the
"info locals" command. Consider ...
procedure Foo is
GV : Integer renames Pck.Global_Variable;
begin
Increment (GV); -- STOP
end Foo;
... Pck.Global_Variable is just an integer. After having stopped at
the "STOP" line, "info locals" yields:
(gdb) info locals
gv = <error reading variable gv (Cannot access memory at address 0xffffffffffffffff)>
In reality, two things are happening:
(1) Variable "GV" does not exist, which is normal, since there is
"GV" the renaming of another variable;
(2) But to allow the user access to that renaming the same way
the code has, the compiler produces an artificial variable
whose name encodes the renaming:
gv___XR_pck__global_variable___XE
For practical reasons, the artificial variable itself is given
irrelevant types and addresses.
But the "info locals" command does not act as if it was a short-cut
of "foreach VAR in locals, print VAR". Instead it gets the value of
each VAR directly, which does not work in this case, since the variable
is artificial and needs to be decoded first.
This patch makes the "read_var_value" routine language-specific.
The old implementation of "read_var_value" gets renamed to
"default_read_var_value" and all languages now use it (unchanged
behavior), except for Ada. In Ada, the new function ada_read_var_value
checks if we have a renaming, and if so, evaluates its value, or else
defers to default_read_var_value.
gdb/ChangeLog:

The la_get_symbol_name_match_p language hook was poorly named, as

match, whereas it is the exact opposite. This patch therefore
