2024-09-27gdb/symtab: pass program space to lookup_symtab and iterate_over_symtabsSimon Marchi1-4/+2
Make the current program space references bubble up. In collect_symtabs_from_filename, remove the calls to set_current_program_space and just pass the relevant pspaces. This appears safe to do, because nothing in the `collector` callback cares about the current pspace. Change-Id: I00a7ed484bfbe5264f01a6abf0d33b51de373cbb Reviewed-by: Keith Seitz <keiths@redhat.com>

Now that lookup_minimal_symbol has default values for sfile and objf, calling lookup_bound_minimal_symbol is identical to calling lookup_minimal_symbol without sfile and objf. 2024-08-12gdb: make lookup_minimal_symbol objf and sfile parameters optionalSimon Marchi1-1/+1
Most calls to lookup_minimal_symbol don't pass a value for sfile and objf. Make these parameters optional (have a default value of nullptr). And since passing a value to `objf` is much more common than passing a value to `sfile`, swap the order so `objf` comes first, to avoid having to pass a nullptr value to `sfile` when wanting to pass a value to `objf`. 2024-05-14Implement C++14 numeric separatorsTom Tromey1-5/+23
C++14 allows the use of the apostrophe as a numeric separator; that is, "23000" and "23'000" represent the same number. This patch implements this for gdb's C++ parser and the C++ name canonicalizer. I did this unconditionally for all C variants because I think it's unambiguous. For the name canonicalizer, there's at least one compiler that can emit constants with this form, see bug 30845. A few spots (mostly in the parsers) use alloca to ensure that a string is terminated before passing it to a printf-like function (mostly 'error'). However, this isn't needed as the "%.*s" format can be used instead. This patch makes this change. In one spot the alloca is dead code and is simply removed. Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 38. 2024-01-28Use domain_search_flags in lookup_symbol et alTom Tromey1-9/+10
This changes lookup_symbol and associated APIs to accept domain_search_flags rather than a domain_enum. Note that this introduces some new constants to Python and Guile. 2024-01-12Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDBAndrew Burgess1-1/+1
This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.
2024-01-04gdb: merge error handling from different expression parsersAndrew Burgess1-4/+1
Many (all?) of the expression parsers implement yyerror to handle parser errors, and all of these functions are basically identical. This commit adds a new parser_state::parse_error() function, which implements the common error handling code, this function can then be called from all the different yyerror functions. The benefit of this is that (in a future commit) I can improve the error output, and all the expression parsers will benefit. This commit is pure refactoring though, and so, there should be no user visible changes after this commit. Approved-By: John Baldwin <jhb@FreeBSD.org>

2022-10-19internal_error: remove need to pass __FILE__/__LINE__Pedro Alves1-3/+2
Currently, every internal_error call must be passed __FILE__/__LINE__ explicitly, like: internal_error (__FILE__, __LINE__, "foo %d", var); The need to pass in explicit __FILE__/__LINE__ is there probably because the function predates widespread and portable variadic macros availability. We can use variadic macros nowadays, and in fact, we already use them in several places, including the related gdb_assert_not_reached. So this patch renames the internal_error function to something else, and then reimplements internal_error as a variadic macro that expands __FILE__/__LINE__ itself. The result is that we now should call internal_error like so: internal_error ("foo %d", var); Likewise for internal_warning. The patch adjusts all calls sites. 99% of the adjustments were done with a perl/sed script. The non-mechanical changes are in gdbsupport/errors.h, gdbsupport/gdb_assert.h, and gdb/gdbarch.py. 2022-06-04[gdb/c] Fix type of 2147483648 and literal truncationTom de Vries1-67/+44
[ Assuming arch i386:x86-64, sizeof (int) == 4, sizeof (long) == sizeof (long long) == 8. ] Currently we have (decimal for 0x80000000): ... (gdb) ptype 2147483648 type = unsigned int ... According to C language rules, unsigned types cannot be used for decimal constants, so the type should be long instead (reported in PR16377). Fix this by making sure the type of 2147483648 is long. The next interesting case is (decimal for 0x8000000000000000): ... (gdb) ptype 9223372036854775808 type = unsigned long ... According to the same rules, unsigned long is incorrect. Current gcc uses __int128 as type, which is allowed, but we don't have that available in gdb, so the strict response here would be erroring out with overflow. Older gcc without __int128 support, as well as clang use an unsigned type, but with a warning. Interestingly, clang uses "unsigned long long" while gcc uses "unsigned long", which seems the better choice. Given that the compilers allow this as a convience, do the same in gdb and keep type "unsigned long", and make this explicit in parser and test-case. Furthermore, make sure we error out on overflow instead of truncating in all cases. Tested on x86_64-linux with --enable-targets=all. Bug: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16377
2022-05-10Always pass an explicit language down to c_type_printPedro Alves1-0/+1
The next patch will want to do language->print_type(type, ...), to print a type in a given language, avoiding a dependency on the current language. That doesn't work correctly currently, however, because most language implementations of language_defn::print_type call c_print_type without passing down the language. There are two overloads of c_print_type, one that takes a language, and one that does not. The one that does not uses the current language, defeating the point of calling language->print_type()... This commit removes the c_print_type overload that does not take a language, and adjusts the codebase throughout to always pass down a language. In most places, there's already an enum language handy. language_defn::print_type implementations naturally pass down this->la_language. In a couple spots, like in ada-typeprint.c and rust-lang.c there's no enum language handy, but the code is written for a specific language, so we just hardcode the language. In gnuv3_print_method_ptr, I wasn't sure whether we could hardcode C++ here, and we don't have an enum language handy, so I made it use the current language, just like today. Can always be improved later. Change-Id: Ib54fab4cf0fd307bfd55bf1dd5056830096a653b

2022-01-26gdb: add string_file::release methodSimon Marchi1-3/+3
A common pattern for string_file is to want to move out the internal string buffer, because it is the result of the computation that we want to return. It is the reason why string_file::string returns a non-const reference, as explained in the comment. I think it would make sense to have a dedicated method for that instead and make string_file::string return a const reference. This allows removing the explicit std::move in the typical case. Note that compile_program::compute was missing a move, meaning that the resulting string was copied. With the new version, it's not possible to forget to move. 2021-04-20gdb: Allow address space qualifier parsing in C++.Felix Willgerodt1-0/+5
The goal of this patch is to allow target dependent address space qualifiers in the C++ expression parser. This can be useful for memory examination on targets that actually use different address spaces in hardware without having to deep-dive into implementation details of the whole solution. GDB uses the @ symbol to parse address space qualifiers. The only current user that I am aware of is the __flash support for avr, which was added in "Add support for the __flash qualifier on AVR" (487d975399dfcb2bb2f0998a7d12bd62acdd9fa1) and only works for C. 2021-03-08Remove BINOP_ENDTom Tromey1-18/+18
BINOP_END is used only as a "meaningless" value in various tables. 2020-11-02gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issuesSimon Marchi1-26/+26
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example, there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch. So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully). One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit" anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you already need a somewhat efficient way to do this. Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke. It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it). Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't really make archeology more difficult. The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c: Fix 2020-07-03gdb: make macro_expand_next return a gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr<char>Simon Marchi1-11/+7
For some reason, macro_expand_next does not return a gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr<char>, like its counterparts macro_expand and macro_expand_once. This patch fixes that. macro_buffer::release now returns a gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr<char> too, which required updating the other callers. The `.release (). release ()` in macro_stringify looks a bit funny, but it's because one release is for the macro_buffer, and the other is for the unique ptr. I removed the ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED_RESULT on macro_buffer::release, I don't really understand why it's there. I don't see how this method could be called without using the result, that would be an obvious memory leak. The commit that introduced it (4e4a8b932b7 "Add ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED_RESULT to macro_buffer") doesn't give any details. gdb/ChangeLog: * c-exp.y (scan_macro_expansion): Don't free `expansion`. 2020-07-03gdb: remove callback in macro expand functionsSimon Marchi1-2/+1
I started to look into changing the callbacks in macroexp.h to use gdb::function_view. However, I noticed that the passed lookup function was always `standard_macro_lookup`, which looks up a macro in a `macro_scope` object. Since that doesn't look like a very useful abstraction, it would be simpler to just pass the scope around and have the various functions call standard_macro_lookup themselves. This is what this patch does. gdb/ChangeLog: * macroexp.h (macro_lookup_ftype): Remove. (macro_expand, macro_expand_once, macro_expand_next): Remove lookup function parameters, add scope parameter. * macroexp.c (scan, substitute_args, expand, maybe_expand, macro_expand, macro_expand_once, macro_expand_next): Likewise. * macroscope.h (standard_macro_lookup): Change parameter type to macro_scope. * macroscope.c (standard_macro_lookup): Likewise. * c-exp.y (lex_one_token): Update. * macrocmd.c (macro_expand_command): Likewise.
