buildsym_new_init is just an alias for buildsym_init. This removes
it. In the long run buildsym_init will also go away; this patch just
helps make things a bit clearer in the meantime.

The global within_function is only used by a few symbol readers. This
patch moves the global out of buildsym and into stabsread, which
seemed like a better fit. It also arranges for the existing readers
to clear the global at the appropriate time.

The complaint system seems to allow for multiple different complaint
topics. However, in practice only symfile_complaints has ever been
defined. Seeing that complaints.c dates to 1992, and that no new
complaints have been added in the intervening years, I think it is
reasonable to admit that complaints are specifically related to
debuginfo reading.
This patch removes symfile_complaints and updates all the callers.
Some of these spots should perhaps be calls to warning instead, but I
did not make that change.

Update copyright year range in all GDB files

Currently, we have a mess of symbol name hashing/comparison routines.
There's msymbol_hash for mangled names, and dict_hash and
msymbol_hash_iw for demangled names. Then there's strcmp_iw,
strcmp_iw_ordered and Ada's full_match/wild_match, which all have to
agree with the hashing routines. That's why dict_hash is really about
Ada names. From the inconsistency department, minimal symbol hashing
doesn't go via dict_hash, so Ada's wild matching can't ever work with
minimal symbols.
This patch starts fixing this, by doing two things:
#1 - adds a language vector method to let each language decide how to
compute a symbol name hash.
#2 - makes dictionaries know the language of the symbols they hold,
and then use the dictionaries language to decide which hashing
method to use.
For now, this is just scaffolding, since all languages install the
default method. The series will make C++ install its own hashing
method later on, and will add per-language symbol name comparison
routines too.
This patch was originally based on a patch that Keith wrote for the
libcc1/C++ WIP support.

When sorting pending blocks in end_symtab_get_static_block, blocks
with the same starting address must remain in the original order
to preserve inline function caller/callee relationships.
The original code seems to have implicitly relied on the fact that the
glibc qsort implemention actually (in the common case) provides a stable
sort, although this is not guaranteed by the standard. But the GNU
libstdc++ std::sort implementation is *not* stable.
gdb/ChangeLog:
2017-10-24 Ulrich Weigand <uweigand@de.ibm.com>
* buildsym.c (end_symtab_get_static_block): Use std::stable_sort.

Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the
allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when
assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case
more often than not).
The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit
"(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I
validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to
make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I
could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc.
Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing
it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time.
Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This
means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be
dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to
build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't
know.
I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.
Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the
size, thanks to David Malcom's script. I fixed some bits by hand, but
there might be some wrong parts left (hopefully not).

This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is
to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the
equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so
it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively
well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be
possible to do scripted replacements if needed.
I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or
multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or
buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW).
- xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo)
- xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num)
- xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo)
- xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num)
- xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num)
- obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo)
- obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num)
- alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo)
- alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num)
Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were
replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC.
I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many
architecture-specific files. For those I'll have to rely on the
buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb.

GDB's current behavior when dealing with non-local references in the
context of nested fuctions is approximative:
- code using valops.c:value_of_variable read the first available stack
frame that holds the corresponding variable (whereas there can be
multiple candidates for this);
- code directly relying on read_var_value will instead read non-local
variables in frames where they are not even defined.
This change adds the necessary context to symbol reads (to get the block
they belong to) and to blocks (the static link property, if any) so that
GDB can make the proper decisions when dealing with non-local varibale
references.

Consider the following declaration:
function Foo (I : Integer) return Integer renames Pack.Bar;
As Foo is not materialized as a routine whose name is derived from Foo,
GDB currently cannot use it:
(gdb) print foo(0)
No definition of "foo" in current context.
However, compilers can emit DW_TAG_imported_declaration in order to
materialize the fact that Foo is actually another name for Pack.Bar.
This commit enhances the DWARF reader to record global renamings (it
used to put global ones in a static block) and enhances the Ada engine
to leverage this information during symbol lookup.

"using directives list", perform a recursive symbol lookup on
the matched declarations.
* block.h (struct block): Move the_namespace to top-level as

This patch renames symbols that happen to have names which are
reserved keywords in C++.
Most of this was generated with Tromey's cxx-conversion.el script.
Some places where later hand massaged a bit, to fix formatting, etc.
And this was rebased several times meanwhile, along with re-running
the script, so re-running the script from scratch probably does not
result in the exact same output. I don't think that matters anyway.

Currently "symtabs" in gdb are stored as a single linked list of
struct symtab that contains both symbol symtabs (the blockvectors)
and file symtabs (the linetables).
This has led to confusion, bugs, and performance issues.
This patch is conceptually very simple: split struct symtab into
two pieces: one part containing things common across the entire
compilation unit, and one part containing things specific to each
source file.
Example.
For the case of a program built out of these files:
foo.c
foo1.h
foo2.h
bar.c
foo1.h
bar.h
Today we have a single list of struct symtabs:
objfile -> foo.c -> foo1.h -> foo2.h -> bar.c -> foo1.h -> bar.h -> NULL
where "->" means the "next" pointer in struct symtab.
With this patch, that turns into:
objfile -> foo.c(cu) -> bar.c(cu) -> NULL

v v
foo.c bar.c

v v
foo1.h foo1.h

v v
foo2.h bar.h

v v
NULL NULL
where "foo.c(cu)" and "bar.c(cu)" are struct compunit_symtab objects,
and the files foo.c, etc. are struct symtab objects.
So now, for example, when we want to iterate over all blockvectors
we can now just iterate over the compunit_symtab list.
Plus a lot of the data that was either unused or replicated for each
symtab in a compilation unit now lives in struct compunit_symtab.
E.g., the objfile pointer, the producer string, etc.
I thought of moving "language" out of struct symtab but there is
logic to try to compute the language based on previously seen files,
and I think that's best left as is for now.
With my standard monster benchmark with -readnow (which I can't actually
do, but based on my calculations), whereas today the list requires
77MB to store all the struct symtabs, it now only requires 37MB.
A modest space savings given the gigabytes needed for all the debug info,
etc. Still, it's nice. Plus, whereas today we create a copy of dirname
for each source file symtab in a compilation unit, we now only create one
for the compunit.
So this patch is basically just a data structure reorg,
I don't expect significant performance improvements from it.
Notes:
1) A followup patch can do a similar split for struct partial_symtab.
I have left that until after I get the changes I want in to
better utilize .gdb_index (it may affect how we do partial syms).
2) Another followup patch *could* rename struct symtab.
The term "symtab" is ambiguous and has been a source of confusion.
In this patch I'm leaving it alone, calling it the "historical" name
of "filetabs", which is what they are now: just the file-name + line-table.

This patch is conceptually quite simple.
If you look at end_symtab_from_static_block you'll see
that the static_block == NULL case is completely different
than the non-NULL case.
There's a lot of complexity to handle the NULL case but it seems
entirely unnecessary. For example, whether blockvector is NULL
is decided at the start, before this for loop:
for (subfile = subfiles; subfile; subfile = nextsub)
Secondly, after the for loop, we test symtab for non-NULL here:
/* Set this for the main source file. */
if (symtab)
but symtab will only ever be non-NULL if blockvector was non-NULL.
And if blockvector was non_NULL so will symtab.
The other case to consider is these lines of code executed before
the for loop:
/* Read the line table if it has to be read separately.
This is only used by xcoffread.c. */
if (objfile->sf->sym_read_linetable != NULL)
objfile->sf->sym_read_linetable (objfile);
/* Handle the case where the debug info specifies a different path
for the main source file. It can cause us to lose track of its
line number information. */
watch_main_source_file_lossage ();
From my reading of the code, neither of these is useful
in the static_block == NULL case.
Thus we can make the code more readable by splitting these two cases up,
which is what this patch does.
gdb/ChangeLog:

(reset_symtab_globals): Replace init of current_subfile with call
to free_subfiles_list.
(end_symtab_without_blockvector, end_symtab_with_blockvector): New

(end_symtab_from_static_block): ... here. Rewrite to call them.

Generally, the blockvector ought to be readonly. So, this patch makes
the blockvector const in the symtab, and also changes various
blockvector APIs to be const.
This patch has a couple of spots that cast away const. I consider
these to be ok because they occur in mdebugread and are used while
constructing the blockvector. I have added comments at these spots.
