2018-04-13btrace: set/show record btrace cpuMarkus Metzger1-2/+4
Add new set/show commands to set the processor that is used for enabling errata workarounds when decoding branch trace. The general format is "<vendor>:<identifier>" but we also allow two special values "auto" and "none". The default is "auto", which is the current behaviour of having GDB determine the processor on which the trace was recorded. If that cpu is not known to the trace decoder, e.g. when using an old decoder on a new system, decode may fail with "unknown cpu". In most cases it should suffice to 'downgrade' decode to assume an older cpu. Unfortunately, we can't do this automatically. The other special value, "none", disables errata workarounds. gdb/ * NEWS (New options): announce set/show record btrace cpu. * btrace.c: Include record-btrace.h. 2017-09-04btrace: Store btrace_insn in an std::vectorSimon Marchi1-5/+1
Because it contains a non-POD type field (flags), the type btrace_insn should be new'ed/delete'd. Replace the VEC (btrace_insn_s) in btrace_function with an std::vector. gdb/ChangeLog: * btrace.h (btrace_insn_s, DEF_VEC_O (btrace_insn_s)): Remove. 2017-05-30btrace: Store function segments as objects.Tim Wiederhake1-8/+15
2017-05-30btrace: Replace struct btrace_function::segment.Tim Wiederhake1-11/+6
This used to hold a pair of pointers to the previous and next function segment that belong to this function call. Replace with a pair of indices into the vector of function segments.
2017-05-30btrace: Remove struct btrace_function::flow.Tim Wiederhake1-3/+0
This used to hold a pair of pointers to the previous and next function segment in execution flow order. It is no longer necessary as the previous and next function segments now are simply the previous and next elements in the vector of function segments.
2017-05-30btrace: Replace struct btrace_function::up.Tim Wiederhake1-2/+4
This used to hold a function segment pointer. Change it to hold an index into the vector of function segments instead.
2017-05-30btrace: Remove struct btrace_thread_info::{begin,end}.Tim Wiederhake1-11/+3
These are no longer needed and might hold invalid addresses once we change the vector of function segment pointers into a vector of function segment objects where a reallocation of the vector changes the address of its elements.
2017-05-30btrace: Use function segment index in insn iterator.Tim Wiederhake1-4/+3
Remove FUNCTION pointer in struct btrace_insn_iterator and use an index into the list of function segments instead.
2017-05-30btrace: Use function segment index in call iterator.Tim Wiederhake1-4/+3
Remove FUNCTION pointer in struct btrace_call_iterator and use an index into the list of function segments instead.
2017-05-30btrace: Add btinfo to instruction interator.Tim Wiederhake1-0/+3
This will serve as the access path to the vector of function segments once the FUNCTION pointer in struct btrace_insn_iterator is removed.
2017-05-30btrace: Use std::vector in struct btrace_thread_information.Tim Wiederhake1-4/+3
2017-02-14btrace: Use binary search to find instruction.Tim Wiederhake1-0/+7
Currently, btrace_find_insn_by_number will iterate over all function call segments to find the one that contains the needed instruction. This linear search is too slow for the upcoming Python bindings that will use this function to access instructions. This patch introduces a vector in struct btrace_thread_info that holds pointers to all recorded function segments and allows to use binary search. The proper solution is to turn the underlying tree into a vector of objects and use indices for access. This requires more work. A patch set is currently being worked on and will be published later. 2015-11-17Type-safe wrapper for enum flagsPedro Alves1-3/+7
This patch fixes C++ build errors like this: /home/pedro/gdb/mygit/cxx-convertion/src/gdb/linux-tdep.c:1126:35: error: invalid conversion from ‘int’ to ‘filterflags’ [-fpermissive] | COREFILTER_HUGETLB_PRIVATE); ^ This is a case of enums used as bit flags. Unlike "regular" enums, these values are supposed to be or'ed together. However, in C++, the type of "(ENUM1 | ENUM2)" is int, and you then can't assign an int to an enum variable without a cast. That means that this: enum foo_flags flags = 0; if (...) flags |= FOO_FLAG1; if (...) flags |= FOO_FLAG2; ... would have to be written as: enum foo_flags flags = (enum foo_flags) 0; if (...) flags = (enum foo_flags) (flags | FOO_FLAG1); if (...) flags = (enum foo_flags) (flags | FOO_FLAG2); which is ... ugly. Alternatively, we'd have to use an int for the variable's type, which isn't ideal either. This patch instead adds an "enum flags" class. "enum flags" are exactly the enums where the values are bits that are meant to be ORed together. This allows writing code like the below, while with raw enums this would fail to compile without casts to enum type at the assignments to 'f': enum some_flag { flag_val1 = 1 << 1, flag_val2 = 1 << 2, flag_val3 = 1 << 3, flag_val4 = 1 << 4, }; DEF_ENUM_FLAGS_TYPE(enum some_flag, some_flags) some_flags f = flag_val1 | flag_val2; f |= flag_val3; It's also possible to assign literal zero to an enum flags variable (meaning, no flags), dispensing either adding an awkward explicit "no value" value to the enumeration or the cast to assignments from 0. For example: some_flags f = 0; f |= flag_val3 | flag_val4; Note that literal integers other than zero do fail to compile: some_flags f = 1; // error C is still supported -- DEF_ENUM_FLAGS_TYPE is just a typedef in that case. gdb/ChangeLog: 2015-11-17 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * btrace.h: Include common/enum-flags.h. Indicate speculatively executed instructions with a leading '?'. We use the space that is normally used for the PC prefix. In the case where the instruction at the current PC had been executed speculatively before, the PC prefix will be partially overwritten resulting in "?> ". As a side-effect, the /p modifier to omit the PC prefix in the "record instruction-history" command now uses a 3-space PC prefix " " in order to have enough space for the speculative execution indication. gdb/ * btrace.c (btrace_compute_ftrace_bts): Clear insn flags. 2015-03-04record-full/record-btrace: software/hardware breakpoint trapPedro Alves1-0/+4
This adjusts the record targets to tell the core whether a trap was caused by a breakpoint. Targets that can do this should report breakpoint traps with the PC already adjusted, so this removes the re-incrementing record-full was doing. These targets need to be adjusted before process_stratum targets beneath are, otherwise target_supports_stopped_by_sw_breakpoint, etc. would fall through to the target beneath while recording/replaying, and the core would get confused. 2015-03-03btrace: compute line range when printingMarkus Metzger1-3/+0
The "record function-call-history" command prints the range of source lines for a function segment when given the /l modifier. This information is computed for the entire execution history when processing the recorded branch trace. To speed up the initial trace processing, we compute the information when we print a function segment and only if requested. The computation is fast enough (due to the limited scope) that it is not worth storing the data in struct btrace_function, anymore. gdb/ * btrace.h (btrace_function) <lbegin, lend>: Remove. * btrace.c (ftrace_debug): Do not print the line range. 2015-02-09record-btrace: indicate gapsMarkus Metzger1-6/+34
Indicate gaps in the trace due to decode errors. Internally, a gap is represented as a btrace function segment without instructions and with a non-zero format-specific error code. Show the gap when traversing the instruction or function call history. Also indicate gaps in "info record". 2015-02-09record btrace: add configuration structMarkus Metzger1-1/+10
Add a struct to describe the branch trace configuration and use it for enabling branch tracing. The user will be able to set configuration fields for each tracing format to be used for new threads. The actual configuration that is active for a given thread will be shown in the "info record" command. At the moment, the configuration struct only contains a format field that is set to the only available format. The format is the only configuration option that can not be set via set commands. 2014-01-16record-btrace: add (reverse-)stepping supportMarkus Metzger1-0/+22
Provide to_resume and to_wait target methods for the btrace record target to allow reverse stepping and replay support. Replay is limited in the sense that only stepping and source correlation are supported. We do not record data and thus can not show variables. Non-stop mode is not working. 2014-01-16btrace: change branch trace data structureMarkus Metzger1-34/+203
The branch trace is represented as 3 vectors: - a block vector - a instruction vector - a function vector Each vector (except for the first) is computed from the one above. Change this into a graph where a node represents a sequence of instructions belonging to the same function and where we have three types of edges to connect the function segments: - control flow - same function (instance) - call stack This allows us to navigate in the branch trace. We will need this for "record goto" and reverse execution. This patch introduces the data structure and computes the control flow edges. It also introduces iterator structs to simplify iterating over the branch trace in control-flow order. It also fixes PR gdb/15240 since now recursive calls are handled correctly. Fix the test that got the number of expected fib instances and also the function numbers wrong. The current instruction had been part of the branch trace. This will look odd once we start support for reverse execution. Remove it. We still keep it in the trace itself to allow extending the branch trace more easily in the future. 2014-01-16 Markus Metzger <markus.t.metzger@intel.com> * btrace.h (struct btrace_func_link): New.
