This adds the method block::function_block, to easily access a block's
enclosing function block.

This adds a couple of convenience methods, block::is_static_block and
block::is_global_block.

block_find_symbol takes a callback function, but only two callbacks
are ever passed to it -- and they are similar enough that it seems
cleaner to just have block_find_symbol do the work itself. Also,
block_find_symbol can take a lookup_name_info as an argument,
following the general idea of pushing the construction of these
objects as high in the call chain as feasible.
Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 38.

gdb: remove BLOCK_RANGES macro
introduces a potential nullptr dereference in block::ranges, this is
breaking most tests, e.g. gdb.base/break.exp is failing for me.
In the above patch BLOCK_CONTIGUOUS_P is changed from this:

to this:
#define BLOCK_CONTIGUOUS_P(bl) ((bl)->ranges ().size () == 0 \

So, before the commit we checked for the block ranges being nullptr,
but afterwards we just call block::ranges() in all cases.
The problem is that block::ranges() looks like this:
/* Return a view on this block's ranges. */
gdb::array_view<blockrange> ranges ()
{ return gdb::make_array_view (m_ranges->range, m_ranges->nranges); }
where m_ranges is:
struct blockranges *m_ranges;
And so, we see that the nullptr check has been lost, and we might end
up dereferencing a nullptr.
My proposed fix is to move the nullptr check into block::ranges, and
return an explicit empty array_view if m_ranges is nullptr.
After this, everything seems fine again.

Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.
So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).
One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.
Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.
The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

Sergio pointed out that commit commit aa3b6533 ("Allow nested function
displays") regressed a few gdb.fortran tests. I was able to reproduce
these failures with gcc head.
The bug is that some spots calling contained_in will in fact do the
wrong thing if nested functions are considered as contained. In the
particular case of the Fortran regression, it was the call in
block_innermost_frame, being called from get_hosting_frame -- in this
case, the caller is specifically trying to avoid the nested case.
This patch fixes the problem by adding an "allow_nested" parameter to
contained_in, essentially reverting the change for most callers.

I noticed that there are still many places referring to non-const
blocks. This constifies all the remaining ones that I found that
could be constified.
In a few spots, this search found unused variables or fields. I
removed these. I've also removed some unnecessary casts to
"struct block *".

This patch builds on the previous by enabling the `new' multidictionary
API. A lot of the hunks are simply textual replacements of "dict_"
with "mdict_" and similar transformations.
A word of warning, even with the use of multidictionaries, the code
still does not satisfactorily fix the reported problems with gdb/23712
(or gdb/23010). We still have additional changes to make before that
happens.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

This patch does the following:
- Introduces a block range data structure which is accessed via
a new field in struct block.
- Defines several macros for accessing block ranges.
- Defines a new function, make_blockrange, which is responsible for
creating the new data structure.
It should be noted that some support for non-contiguous ranges already
existed in GDB in the form of blockvector addrmaps. This support
allowed GDB to quickly find a block containing a particular address
even when the block consists of non-contiguous addresses. See
find_block_in_blockvector() in block.c, dwarf2_record_block_ranges()
in dwarf2read.c, and record_block_range() in buildsym.c.
Addrmaps do not provide a convenient way to examine address ranges
associated with a particular block. This data structure (and its
interface) is set up for quickly finding the value (which in this case
is a block) associated with a particular address. The interface
does not include a method for doing a reverse mapping from blocks to
addresses. A linear time mapping might be attempted via use of the
addrmap's foreach method, but this is not as straightforward as it
might first appear due to the fact that blocks corresponding to inline
function instances and lexical blocks w/ variables end up getting
interspersed in in the set of transitions.
Note: If this approach is deemed to be too expensive in terms of
space, an alternate approach might be to attempt the linear time
mapping noted above. find_pc_partial_function() needs to be able to
quickly know whether there are discontiguous ranges, so a flag for
this property would have to be added to struct block. Also integral
to this set of changes is the concept of an "entry pc" which might be
different from the block's start address. An entry_pc field would
also need to be added to struct block. This does not result in any
space savings in struct block though since the space for the flag and
entry_pc use more space than the blockranges struct pointer that I've
added. There would, however, be some space savings due to the fact
that the new data structures that I've added for this patch would not
need to be allocated. (I happen to like the approach I've come up
with, but I wanted to mention another possibility just in case someone
does not.)

Consider the following code which first declares a tagged type (the
equivalent of a class in Ada), and then a procedure which takes a
pointer (access) to this type's 'Class.

What's special about this subprogram is that it takes an access to
what we call a 'Class type, and for implementation reasons, the
compiler adds an extra argument named "objL". If you are curious why,
it allows the compiler for perform dynamic accessibility checks that
are mandated by the language.
If we look at the location where we get the internal error (in
stack.c), we find that we are looping over the symbol of each
parameter, and for each parameter, we do:

The lookup_symbol goes through the lookup structure, which means the
symbol's linkage name ("objL") gets transformed into a
lookup_name_info object (in block_lookup_symbol), before it gets fed
to the block symbol dictionary iterators. This, in turn, triggers the
symbol matching by comparing the "lookup" name which, for Ada, means
among other things, lowercasing the given name to "objl". It is this
transformation that causes the lookup find no matches, and therefore
trip this assertion.
Going back to the "offending" call to lookup_symbol in stack.c, what
we are trying to do, here, is do a lookup by linkage name. So, I
think what we mean to be doing is a completely literal symbol lookup,
so maybe not even strcmp_iw, but actually just plain strcmp???
In the past, in practice, you could get that effect by doing a lookup
using the C language. But that doesn't work, because we still end up
somehow using Ada's lookup_name routine which transforms "objL".
So, ideally, as I hinted before, I think what we need is a way to
perform a literal lookup so that searches by linkage names like the
above can be performed.

This commit fixes the problem by implementing something similar to
Joel's literal idea, but with some important differences.
I considered adding a symbol_name_match_type::LINKAGE and supporting
searching by linkage name for any language, but the problem with that
is that the dictionaries only work with SYMBOL_SEARCH_NAME, because
that's what is used for hashing. We'd need separate dictionaries for
hashed linkage names.
So with the current symbol tables infrastructure, it's not literal
linkage names that we want to pass down, but instead literal _search_
names (SYMBOL_SEARCH_NAME, etc.).
However, psymbols have no overload/function parameter info in C++, so
a straight strcmp doesn't work properly for C++ name matching.
So what we do is be a little less aggressive then and add a new
symbol_name_match_type::SEARCH_SYMBOL instead that takes as input a
non-user-input search symbol, and then we skip any decoding/demangling
steps and make:
- Ada treat that as a verbatim match,
- other languages treat it as symbol_name_match_type::FULL.
This also fixes the new '"maint check-psymtabs" for Ada' testcase for
me (gdb.ada/maint_with_ada.exp). I've not removed the kfail yet
because Joel still sees that testcase failing with this patch.
That'll be fixed in follow up patches.
