2016-05-25Enable 64-bit archives in ar and ranlibH.J. Lu1-0/+23
Since existing ld and gold support the 64-bit (MIPS) ELF archives, we can use the 64-bit (MIPS) ELF archives as 64-bit archives. Since the plugin target is used to create archive in plugin-enabled ar, we need a way to enable 64-bit archives in the plugin target. This patch adds --enable-64-bit-archive to bfd to force 64-bit archives in ar and ranlib. Since both 64-bit MIPS and s390 ELF targets currently use 64-bit archives, 64-bit archives are enabled by default for them. 64-bit archive is generated automatically if the archive is too big. Tested on Linux/x86 and Linux/x86-64 with existing ld and gold. bfd/ PR binutils/14625 * archive.c (bfd_slurp_armap): Replace bfd_elf64_archive_slurp_armap with _bfd_archive_64_bit_slurp_armap. 2016-04-14arc/nps400 : New cmem instructions and associated relocationAndrew Burgess1-0/+1
Add support for arc/nps400 cmem instructions, these load and store instructions are hard-wired to access "0x57f00000 + 16-bit-offset". Supporting this relocation required some additions to the arc relocation handling in the bfd library, as well as the standard changes required to add a new relocation type. There's a test of the new instructions in the assembler, and a test of the relocation in the linker. bfd/ChangeLog: * reloc.c: Add BFD_RELOC_ARC_NPS_CMEM16 entry. * bfd-in2.h: Regenerate. * libbfd.h: Regenerate. * elf32-arc.c: Add 'opcode/arc.h' include. 2015-12-16[ARM] Add support for thumb1 pcrop relocations.Mickael Guene1-0/+4
To support thumb1 execute-only code we need to support four new relocations (R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G0_NC, R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G1_NC, R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G2_NC and R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G3_NC). These relocations allow the static linker to finalize construction of symbol address. Typical sequence of code to get address of the symbol foo is then the following : movs r3, #:upper8_15:#foo lsls r3, #8 adds r3, #:upper0_7:#foo lsls r3, #8 adds r3, #:lower8_15:#foo lsls r3, #8 adds r3, #:lower0_7:#foo This will give following sequence of text and relocations after assembly : 4: 2300 movs r3, #0 4: R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G3_NC foo 6: 021b lsls r3, r3, #8 8: 3300 adds r3, #0 8: R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G2_NC foo a: 021b lsls r3, r3, #8 c: 3300 adds r3, #0 c: R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G1_NC foo e: 021b lsls r3, r3, #8 10: 3300 adds r3, #0 10: R_ARM_THM_ALU_ABS_G0_NC foo

2015-10-22Add R_X86_64_[REX_]GOTPCRELX support to gas and ldH.J. Lu1-0/+2

2015-10-22Add R_386_GOT32X support to gas and ldH.J. Lu1-0/+1
This patch adds support for the R_386_GOT32X relocation proposed in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/ia32-abi/GbJJskkid4I to gas and ld. It updates gas to generate R_386_GOT32X relocation for memory operand, foo@GOT[(%reg)]. We must encode "mov foo@GOT, %eax" with the 0x8b opcode, instead of the 0xb8 opcode, so that it can be transformed to "lea foo, %eax". With the locally defined symbol, foo, we convert mov foo@GOT[(%reg1)], %reg2 to lea foo[@GOTOFF(%reg1)], %reg2 and convert call/jmp *foo@GOT[(%reg)] to nop call foo/jmp foo nop When PIC is false, convert test %reg1, foo@GOT[(%reg2)] to test $foo, %reg1 and convert binop foo@GOT[(%reg1)], %reg2 to binop $foo, %reg2 where binop is one of adc, add, and, cmp, or, sbb, sub, xor instructions. bfd/ * elf32-i386.c: Include opcode/i386.h. 2014-09-16NDS32: Code refactoring of relaxation.Kuan-Lin Chen1-0/+21
Refactor each relaxation pattern to raise the maintainability. In origin, all patterns is analysed in nds32_elf_relax_section, so it is hard to debug and maintain. Therefore, we classify all patterns into different functions in this patch. Moreover, we adjust all optimizations into nds32_elf_relax_section to take these optimizations in turn. This can promise all relaxation being done after calling gld${EMULATION_NAME}_after_allocation.

2014-08-05Fix LTO vs. COFF archivesAlan Modra1-1/+3
Avoid scan of symbols on objects in coff archives since we don't need to do anything special with common symbols. The scan is quite useless, and breaks LTO due to slim LTO objects not having symbols available until after the plugin has claimed them. Instead we can add objects based on their archive symbol map. Also, rip out the archive symbol hash table used by the generic linker. Using a hash breaks one feature of unix archive linking; The first object file in an archive defining any given symbol should be the object extracted to satisfy that symbol. What's more a hash isn't much faster except in pathological cases where object file ordering causes many scans of the archive. See the comment which I'm removing from elf_link_add_archive_symbols. Finally, tidy elflink.c archive handling a little. PR 13557 * linker.c (struct archive_list, struct archive_hash_entry, struct archive_hash_table, archive_hash_newfunc, archive_hash_table_init, archive_hash_lookup, archive_hash_allocate, archive_hash_table_free): Delete. 2014-06-13Don't call bfd_link_hash_table_freeAlan Modra1-2/+0
Freeing the linker hash table is a royal pain. It can't be freed before the _bfd_write_contents call in bfd_close, because some target bfd_write_contents functions access the hash table. It can't be freed after bfd_close either, since bfd_alloc memory holding side data structures disappears (PR17047). Clearly the only place it can be freed is actually in bfd_close. This patch doesn't do that, but kills off the existing means of freeing the hash table via a bfd target xvec call. bfd/ PR 17047 * targets.c (BFD_JUMP_TABLE): Delete NAME##_bfd_link_hash_table_free. 2014-04-24PR16867, linking object with separate debug fileAlan Modra1-1/+2
This teaches the DWARF2 find_line functions how to deal with separate debug relocatable object files. Also fixes a major bug: When _bfd_dwarf2_slurp_debug_info was split out, place_sections ran after .debug_info was relocated. This defeated the whole purpose of place_sections. See the comment I added before place_sections. Fixes some minor bugs too: - place_sections didn't set VMA for alloc but non-load sections (bss). - zero size sections can have symbols, so they need their VMA set too. - last_vma was incorrectly adjusted. - my last change to place_sections left VMA unchanged for .debug_info when the linker has mapped input to output sections, but this is wrong since bfd_simple_get_relocated_section_contents unmaps debug sections. PR 16867 * dwarf2.c: Formatting. (struct dwarf2_debug): Make adjusted_section_count signed. (unset_sections): Make i signed. (set_debug_vma): New function. (place_sections): Handle separate debug object file. Set VMA on debug sections, even if they have an output section. Also set VMA on zero size sections, and non-load but alloc sections. Set adjusted_section_count to -1 when no section adjustment. Malloc adjusted_sections. Don't double last_vma. Transfer alloc section VMAs to separate debug file. (_bfd_dwarf2_cleanup_debug_info): Free adjusted_sections. (_bfd_dwarf2_slurp_debug_info): Add do_place parameter. Drop test on symbols being the same before using old stash.
