2019-03-21[BFD, AArch64, x86] Improve warning for --force-btiSudakshina Das1-1/+1
The AArch64 linker option to turn on BTI (--force-bti) warns in case there are input objects which have a missing GNU NOTE section for BTI. This patch is trying to improve the warnings that come out. In order to do so, I propose adding a new argument to elf_merge_gnu_properties and the backend function merge_gnu_properties. This new argument makes sure that we now pass both the objects along with the properties to which they belong to. Delay setting its alignment until we know it is non-empty. Otherwise an empty iplt section may change vma and lma of the following sections, which triggers moving dot of the following section backwards, resulting in a warning and section lma not being set properly. ENDBR64 is added to the special TLSDESC entry, which is similar to the PLT0 entry, in the x86-64 lazy procedure linkage table to support Intel CET. The NaCl PLT is different from the normal PLT. This patch adds plt_tlsdesc_entry, plt_tlsdesc_entry_size, plt_tlsdesc_got1_offset, plt_tlsdesc_got2_offset, plt_tlsdesc_got1_insn_end and plt_tlsdesc_got2_insn_end to elf_x86_lazy_plt_layout to support both normal and NaCl TLSDESC entries. This patch defines a bunch of new functions to use in the BFD target structs rather than casting bfd_false or bfd_true and similar stub functions. I've also renamed the stub functions to reflect their parameters and put "error" in the name if they set bfd_error. 2018-02-14Fix compilation of the BFD sub-directory with a gcc v8 compiler by adding ↵Nick Clifton1-1/+1
extra casts. GCC v8 issues warnings about mis-matching casts of function pointers. A previous patch tried to fix this problem by adding new dummy functions which accepted a variable number of arguments. But this introduces serious problems when compiled with other versions of gcc, (notably gcc 4.4). This patch reverts that previous solution and instead adds extra casts (to function types without a parameter list). When GOTPCREL relocation conversion leads to relocation overflow, we may get a mysterious linker message, like relocation truncated to fit: R_X86_64_32S against symbol `foo' This patch changes the linker message to failed to convert GOTPCREL relocation; relink with --no-relax bfd/ * elf64-x86-64.c (elf_x86_64_convert_load_reloc): Remove the sec argument. Don't check relocation overflow. Avoid relocation overflow if --no-relax is used. Set converted_reloc on symbol if a GOTPCREL relocation is converted. (elf_x86_64_relocate_section): Issue a fatal error and suggest --no-relax if GOTPCREL relocation conversion leads to relocation overflow. * elfxx-x86.h (elf_x86_link_hash_entry): Add converted_reloc. ld/ * testsuite/ld-x86-64/pr19609-4e.d: Updated. * testsuite/ld-x86-64/pr19609-6a.d: Likewise.

elf_i386_size_dynamic_sections and elf_x86_64_size_dynamic_sections are very similar, except for the followings: 1. elf_i386_size_dynamic_sections checks GOT_TLS_IE and GOT_TLS_IE_BOTH. elf_x86_64_size_dynamic_sections checks only GOT_TLS_IE. Since GOT_TLS_IE_BOTH is never true for x86-64, it is OK to check GOT_TLS_IE for both i386 and x86-64. 2, x86-64 sets tlsdesc_plt, but i386 doesn't.
