2021-05-06or1k: Support large plt_relocs when generating plt entriesStafford Horne1-0/+16
The current PLT generation code will generate invalid code when the PLT relocation offset exceeds 64k. This fixes the issue by detecting large plt_reloc offsets and generare code sequences to create larger plt relocations. 2021-05-06or1k: Avoid R_OR1K_GOT16 overflow failures in presence of R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16Stafford Horne1-0/+7
Now that we support R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16 we can relax the R_OR1K_GOT16 overflow validation check if the section has R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16. We cannot simple disable R_OR1K_GOT16 overflow validation as there will still be binaries that will have only R_OR1K_GOT16. The R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16 relocation will only be added by GCC when building with the option -mcmodel=large. This assumes that R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16 will come before R_OR1K_GOT16, which is the code pattern that will be emitted by GCC. bfd/ChangeLog: PR 21464 * elf32-or1k.c (or1k_elf_relocate_section): Relax R_OR1K_GOT16 overflow check if we have R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16 followed by R_OR1K_GOT16.
2021-05-06or1k: Implement relocation R_OR1K_GOT_AHI16 for gotha()Stafford Horne1-0/+10
The gotha() relocation mnemonic will be outputted by OpenRISC GCC when using the -mcmodel=large option. This relocation is used along with got() to generate 32-bit GOT offsets. This increases the previous GOT offset limit from the previous 16-bit (64K) limit. 2021-05-03x86: don't request useless overflow checkingJan Beulich1-0/+7
Relocations with a bitsize matching the architecture's address width can't usefully use an overflow checking approach other than "dont" or "signed": All others involve perhaps complex calculations in _bfd_relocate_contents() (or, not as severe, in bfd_check_overflow()) without ever finding anything to complain about - because of the address width masking applied. Avoid this unnecessary overhead and switch all such reloc types to "dont". Note that "signed" checking with rela relocations (i.e. x86-64 here) is only going to be useful if the addend actually got passed to _bfd_relocate_contents() (and maybe others) instead of bogusly adding in prior section contents (which apparently is assumed to be zero, and hence again no overflow would ever be detected). This makes the default for ppc to keep dynamic relocs on undefweak symbols when the code won't cause DT_TEXTREL (for instance when -fPIE or -fPIC). If ld is given -z dynamic-undefined-weak then dynamic relocations will be created for non-PIC at the expense of possibly causing DT_TEXTREL to be set on ppc32. Note that DT_TEXTREL and GNU indirect functions are incompatible. * elf32-ppc.c (allocate_dynrelocs): Keep dyn_relocs for undefweak symbols when -z dynamic-undefined-weak or when there are no dynamic relocs in read-only sections and -z nodynamic-undefined-weak is not given. * elf64-ppc.c (allocate_dynrelocs): Likewise.

2021-04-26x86: correct overflow checking for 16-bit PC-relative relocsJan Beulich1-0/+7
The only insn requiring a truly 16-bit PC-relative relocation outside of 16-bit mode is XBEGIN (with an operand size override). For it, the relocation generated should behave similar to 8- and (for 64-bit) 32-bit PC-relatives ones, i.e. be checked for a signed value to fit the field. This same mode is also correct for 16-bit code. Outside of 16-bit code, branches with operand size overrides act in a truly PC-relative way only when living in the low 32k of address space, as they truncate rIP to 16 bits. This can't be expressed by a PC-relative relocation. Putting in place a new testcase, I'd like to note that the two existing ones (pcrel16 and pcrel16abs) appear to be pretty pointless: They don't expect any error despite supposedly checking for overflow, and in fact there can't possibly be any error for the - former since gas doesn't emit any relocation in the first place there, - latter because the way the relocation gets expressed by gas doesn't allow the linker to notice the overflow; it should be detected by gas if at all, but see above (an error would be reported here for x86-64 afaict, but this test doesn't get re-used there).

The local ".L0" symbol are usually generated to mark where the auipc instruction is, and clang also uses ".LBB" to do the same thing. Besides, clang also uses the empty name symbols for label differences. Arm surpress their mapping symbols by regarding them as special symbols, and MIPS surpress all local symbols. Therefore, RISC-V probably need to surpress the local and empty name symbols for nm and related tools. The linker does not care the default versions of the extensions, since it does not have the default ISA spec setting. Therefore, linker won't insert the implicit extensions for the input objects. But we used to insert the i-ext as the explicit extension, even if the e-ext is set. This causes linker to report "cannot find default versions of the ISA extension `i'" errors when linking the input objects with e-ext. This patch fixes the above linker problem, and also remove the confused riscv_ext_dont_care_version function. Unless these "dont care" extensions are set in the input architecture explicitly, otherwise we always insert them as the implicit ones. Afterwards, let riscv_arch_str1 surpress them not to output to the architecture string if their versions are RISCV_UNKNOWN_VERSION. bfd/ * elfxx-riscv.c (riscv_ext_dont_care_version): Removed. The original discussion is as follows, https://github.com/riscv/riscv-isa-manual/issues/637 I never considered the prefixes may have multiple letters, like zxm. But the ISA spec has been updated for a long time that I haven't noticed. This patch rewrites the part of architecture parser to support parsing the multi-letter prefixes. Besides, I also improve the parser to report errors in details. One of the most obvious improvement is - Do not parse the prefixed extensions according to the orders in the parse_config. If we do so, then we used to get "unexpected ISA string at end" errors, but the message is a little bit hard to know what is happening. 2021-04-01PE/Windows x86_64: Fix weak undef symbols after image base changeTamar Christina1-0/+5
The change in PR19011 changed the image load address from being in the lower 32-bit address space to the higher 64-bit address space. However when you have a weak undef symbol which stays undef at the end of linking the linker has to resolve this (Windows loader does not support undef symbols). As such typically these would resolve to 0. The relocation used for these weak symbols are the normal 32-bit PC_REL call relocs. So when doing the overflow check LD checks if the distance between the symbol and the call is within range. However now that the load address is > 32-bits and the symbol val is 0 this overflow check will always fail. As such the linker gives a bogus error. This patch makes the linker not emit the overflow failure but chooses to still let the check be performed (as it's mid-end code). One down side of this is that it does break the common convention that the call be to sym at 0x0. i.e. before you'd get 401015: 74 05 je 40101c 401017: e8 e4 ef bf ff callq 0 and now you get 140001015: 74 05 je 14000101c 140001017: e8 e4 ef ff bf call 100000000 since the call is PC_REL there's no way to get the range large enough to resolve to 0. As such I have chosen to leave it as the furthest simple range that we can still represent.
