2021-11-26libitm: Fix bootstrap for targets without HAVE_ELF_STYLE_WEAKREF.Iain Sandoe1-1/+5
Recent improvements to null address warnings notice that for targets that do not support HAVE_ELF_STYLE_WEAKREF the dummy stub implementation of __cxa_get_globals() means that the address can never be null. Fixed by removing the test for such targets. Signed-off-by: Iain Sandoe <iain@sandoe.co.uk> libitm/ChangeLog: * eh_cpp.cc (GTM::gtm_thread::init_cpp_exceptions): If the target does not support HAVE_ELF_STYLE_WEAKREF then do not try to test the __cxa_get_globals against NULL.

2021-06-17libstdc++: Simplify constexpr checks in std::char_traits [PR 91488]Jonathan Wakely1-0/+9
This removes the helper functions added by r8-1294 to detect whether the char_traits member functions can be evaluated at compile time. Instead, we can just use __builtin_constant_evaluated directly, which is well supported by non-GCC compilers by now. As a result, there is a chance that those members will no longer be usable in constant expressions when using old versions of non-GCC compilers. Make the relevant feature test macros depend on the availability of __builtin_constant_evaluated, so they are defined only when the feature is actualyl available. The new testcase from the PR is added to the libitm testsuite, because that's where we can be sure it's OK to use the -fgnu-tm option. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Wakely <jwakely@redhat.com> PR libstdc++/91488 libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog: * include/bits/basic_string.h (__cpp_lib_constexpr_string): Only define when is_constant_evaluated is available. * include/bits/char_traits.h (__cpp_lib_constexpr_char_traits): Likewise. 2021-01-15libatomic, libgomp, libitc: Fix bootstrap [PR70454]Jakub Jelinek1-20/+17
The recent changes to error on mixing -march=i386 and -fcf-protection broke bootstrap. This patch changes lib{atomic,gomp,itm} configury, so that it only adds -march=i486 to flags if really needed (i.e. when 486 or later isn't on by default already). Similarly, it will not use ifuncs if -mcx16 (or -march=i686 for 32-bit) is on by default. 2021-01-15 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR target/70454 libatomic/ * configure.tgt: For i?86 and x86_64 determine if -march=i486 needs to be added through preprocessor check on __GCC_HAVE_SYNC_COMPARE_AND_SWAP_4. 2020-12-05Darwin : Update libtool and dependencies for Darwin20 [PR97865]Iain Sandoe2-17/+26
The change in major version (and the increment from Darwin19 to 20) caused libtool tests to fail which resulted in incorrect build settings for shared libraries. We take this opportunity to sort out the shared undefined symbols state rather than propagating the current unsound behaviour into a new rev. This change means that we default to the case that missing symbols are considered an error, and if one wants to allow this intentionally, the confiuration for that case should be set appropriately. Three existing cases need undefined dynamic lookup: libitm, where there is already a configuration mechanism to add the flags. libcc1, where we add simple configuration to add the flags for Darwin. libsanitizer, where we can add to the existing extra flags. libcc1/ChangeLog: PR target/97865 * Makefile.am: Add dynamic_lookup to LD flags for Darwin. * configure.ac: Test for Darwin host and set a flag. * Makefile.in: Regenerate. * configure: Regenerate. libitm/ChangeLog: PR target/97865 * configure.tgt: Add dynamic_lookup to XLDFLAGS for Darwin. * configure: Regenerate. libsanitizer/ChangeLog: PR target/97865 * configure.tgt: Add dynamic_lookup to EXTRA_CXXFLAGS for Darwin. * configure: Regenerate. 2020-07-24aarch64: add PAC-RET protection to libitm sjlj.SSzabolcs Nagy1-3/+53
_ITM_beginTransaction is a 'returns_twice' function that saves x30 on the stack as part of gtm_jmpbuf (that is passed down to GTM_begin_transaction), but the saved x30 is also used for return. The return path should be protected so we don't leave an ldp x29, x30, [sp] ret gadget in the code, so x30 is signed on function entry. This exposes the signed address in the gtm_jmpbuf too. The jmpbuf does not need a signed address since GTM_longjmp uses ldp x29, x30, [x1] br x30 and with BTI there is a BTI j at the _ITM_beginTransaction call site where this jump returns. Using PAC does not hurt: the gtm_jmpbuf is internal to libitm and its layout is only used by sjlj.S so the signed address does not escape. Saving signed x30 into gtm_jmpbuf provides a bit of extra protection, but more importantly it allows adding the PAC-RET support without changing the existing code much. In theory bti and pac-ret protection can be added unconditionally since the instructions are in the nop space, in practice they can cause trouble if some tooling does not understand the gnu property note (e.g. old binutils) or some unwinder or debugger does not understand the new dwarf op code used for pac-ret (e.g old gdb). So the code is written to only support branch-protection according to the code generation options. libitm/ChangeLog: * config/aarch64/sjlj.S: Add conditional pac-ret protection.

sjlj.S did not have the GNU property note markup and the BTI c instructions that are necessary when it is built with branch protection. The notes are only added when libitm is built with branch protection, because old linkers mishandle the note (merge them incorrectly or emit warnings), the BTI instructions are added unconditionally. 2020-07-09 Szabolcs Nagy <szabolcs.nagy@arm.com> libitm/ChangeLog: * config/aarch64/sjlj.S: Add BTI marking and related definitions, and add BTI c to function entries.

2020-05-12Fix throw specifiers on interface.Nathan Sidwell3-17/+38
I discovered that libitm: (a) declares __cxa_allocate_exception and friends directly, (b) doesn't mark them as 'throw()' (c) doesn't mark the replacment fns _ITM_$foo as nothrow either We happen to get away with it because of code in the compiler that, although it checks the parameter types, doesn't check the exception specification. (One reason being they used to not be part of the language's type system, but now they are.) I suspect this can lead us to generate pessimal code later, if we've seen one of these decls earlier. Anyway, with modules it becomes trickier[*], so I'm trying to clean it up and not be a problem. I see Jakub fixed part of the problem (https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-patches/2018-December/513302.html) AFAICT, he did fix libitm's decls, but left the lax parm-type checking in the compiler. libitm.h is not very informative about specification: in version 1 of http://www.intel.com/some/path/here.pdf. */ Anyway, it was too fiddly to have libitm pick up the declarations from libsupc++. Besides it makes them weak declarations, and then provides definitions for non-elf systems. So this patch adds the expected 'throw()' * libitm/libitm.h (_ITM_NOTHROW): Define. configure scripts The new arm-uclinuxfdpiceabi target behaves pretty much like arm-linux-gnueabi. In order to enable the same set of features, we have to update several configure scripts that generally match targets like *-*-linux*: in most places, we add *-uclinux* where there is already *-linux*, or uclinux* when there is already linux*. In gcc/config.gcc and libgcc/config.host we use *-*-uclinuxfdpiceabi because there is already a different behaviour for *-*uclinux* target. In libtool.m4, we use uclinuxfdpiceabi in cases where ELF shared libraries support is required, as uclinux does not guarantee that. 2019-09-10 Christophe Lyon <christophe.lyon@st.com> config/ * futex.m4: Handle *-uclinux*. * tls.m4 (GCC_CHECK_TLS): Likewise. gcc/ * config.gcc: Handle *-*-uclinuxfdpiceabi. libatomic/ * configure.tgt: Handle arm*-*-uclinux*. * configure: Regenerate. libgcc/ * config.host: Handle *-*-uclinuxfdpiceabi. libitm/ * configure.tgt: Handle *-*-uclinux*. * configure: Regenerate. * libtool.m4: Handle uclinuxfdpiceabi. 2018-10-31Update GCC to autoconf 2.69, automake 1.15.1 (PR bootstrap/82856).Joseph Myers8-1239/+1858
This patch updates GCC to use autoconf 2.69 and automake 1.15.1. (That's not the latest automake version, but it's the one used by binutils-gdb, with which consistency is desirable, and in any case seems a useful incremental update that should make a future update to 1.16.1 easier.) The changes are generally similar to the binutils-gdb ones, and are copied from there where shared files and directories are involved (there are some further changes to such shared directories, however, which I'd expect to apply to binutils-gdb once this patch is in GCC). Largely, obsolete AC_PREREQ calls are removed, while many AC_LANG_SOURCE calls are added to avoid warnings from aclocal and autoconf. Multilib support is no longer included in core automake, meaning that multilib.am needs copying from automake's contrib directory into the GCC source tree. Autoconf 2.69 has Go support, so local copies of that support are removed. I hope the D support will soon be submitted to upstream autoconf so the local copy of that can be removed in a future update. Changes to how automake generates runtest calls mean quotes are removed from RUNTEST definitions in five lib*/testsuite/Makefile.am files (libatomic, libgomp, libitm, libphobos, libvtv; some others have RUNTEST definitions without quotes, which are still OK); libgo and libphobos also get -Wno-override added to AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE so those overrides of RUNTEST do not generate automake warnings. Note that the regeneration did not include regeneration of fixincludes/config.h.in (attempting such regeneration resulted in all the USED_FOR_TARGET conditionals disappearing; and I don't see anything in the fixincludes/ directory that would result in such conditionals being generated, unlike in the gcc/ directory). Also note that libvtv/testsuite/other-tests/Makefile.in was not regenerated; that directory is not listed as a subdirectory for which Makefile.in gets regenerated by calling "automake" in libvtv/, so I'm not sure how it's meant to be regenerated. While I mostly fixed warnings should running aclocal / automake / autoconf, there were various such warnings from automake in the libgfortran, libgo, libgomp, liboffloadmic, libsanitizer, libphobos directories that I did not fix, preferring to leave those to the relevant subsystem maintainers. Specifically, most of those warnings were of the following form (example from libgfortran): Makefile.am:48: warning: source file 'caf/single.c' is in a subdirectory, Makefile.am:48: but option 'subdir-objects' is disabled automake: warning: possible forward-incompatibility. automake: At least a source file is in a subdirectory, but the 'subdir-objects' automake: automake option hasn't been enabled. For now, the corresponding output automake: object file(s) will be placed in the top-level directory. However, automake: this behaviour will change in future Automake versions: they will automake: unconditionally cause object files to be placed in the same subdirectory automake: of the corresponding sources. automake: You are advised to start using 'subdir-objects' option throughout your automake: project, to avoid future incompatibilities. I think it's best for the relevant maintainers to add subdir-objects and do any other associated Makefile.am changes needed. In some cases the paths in the warnings involved ../; I don't know if that adds any extra complications to the use of subdir-objects. I've tested this with native, cross and Canadian cross builds. The risk of any OS-specific issues should I hope be rather lower than if a libtool upgrade were included (we *should* do such an upgrade at some point, but it's more complicated - it involves identifying all our local libtool changes to see if any aren't included in the upstream version we update to, and reverting an upstream libtool patch that's inappropriate for use in GCC); I think it would be better to get this update into GCC so that people can test in different configurations and we can fix any issues found, rather than to try to get more and more testing done before it goes in. top level: 2018-10-31 Joseph Myers <joseph@codesourcery.com> PR bootstrap/82856 * multilib.am: New file.
