Like in r12-7519-g027e30414492d50feb2854aff38227b14300dc4b, I've done git grep -v 'long long\|optab optab\|template template\|double double' | grep ' \([a-zA-Z]\+\) \1 ' This is just part of the changes, mostly for non-gcc directories. I'll try to get to the rest soon. Obviously, the above command also finds cases which are correct as is and shouldn't be changed, so one needs to manually inspect everything. [ This is my third attempt to add this configure option. The first version was approved but it came too late in the development cycle. The second version was also approved, but I had to revert it: <https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-patches/2022-November/607082.html>. I've fixed the problem (by moving $(PICFLAG) from INTERNAL_CFLAGS to ALL_COMPILERFLAGS). Another change is that since r13-4536 I no longer need to touch Makefile.def, so this patch is simplified. ] This patch implements the --enable-host-pie configure option which makes the compiler executables PIE. This can be used to enhance protection against ROP attacks, and can be viewed as part of a wider trend to harden binaries. It is similar to the option --enable-host-shared, except that --e-h-s won't add -shared to the linker flags whereas --e-h-p will add -pie. It is different from --enable-default-pie because that option just adds an implicit -fPIE/-pie when the compiler is invoked, but the compiler itself isn't PIE. Since r12-5768-gfe7c3ecf, PCH works well with PIE, so there are no PCH regressions. When building the compiler, the build process may use various in-tree libraries; these need to be built with -fPIE so that it's possible to use them when building a PIE. For instance, when --with-included-gettext is in effect, intl object files must be compiled with -fPIE. Similarly, when building in-tree gmp, isl, mpfr and mpc, they must be compiled with -fPIE. AIX supports "FAT" libraries containing 32 bit and 64 bit objects (similar to Darwin), but commands for manipulating libraries do not default to accept both 32 bit and 64 bit object files. While updating the AIX configuration to support building and running GCC as a 64 bit application, I have encountered some build libraries that hard code AR=ar instead of testing the environment. As reported in bug 91226, the libdecnumber code used on the host to interpret DFP values in the BID encoding fails, for _Decimal64 and _Decimal128, to check for the case where a significand is too large and so specified in IEEE 754 to be a non-canonical encoding of the zero significand. This patch adds the required handling of that case, together with tests both using -O2 (testing this host code) and -O0 (testing libgcc code, which already worked before the patch); the tests also cover _Decimal32, which already had the required check. In the _Decimal128 case, where the code previously completely ignored the case where the first four bits of the combination field are 1100, 1101 or 1110, the logic for determining the correct quantum exponent in that case is also newly added by this patch, so tests are added for that as well (again, libgcc already handled it correctly when the conversion was done at runtime rather than at compile time). 2018-10-31Update GCC to autoconf 2.69, automake 1.15.1 (PR bootstrap/82856).Joseph Myers4-419/+502
This patch updates GCC to use autoconf 2.69 and automake 1.15.1. (That's not the latest automake version, but it's the one used by binutils-gdb, with which consistency is desirable, and in any case seems a useful incremental update that should make a future update to 1.16.1 easier.) The changes are generally similar to the binutils-gdb ones, and are copied from there where shared files and directories are involved (there are some further changes to such shared directories, however, which I'd expect to apply to binutils-gdb once this patch is in GCC). Largely, obsolete AC_PREREQ calls are removed, while many AC_LANG_SOURCE calls are added to avoid warnings from aclocal and autoconf. Multilib support is no longer included in core automake, meaning that multilib.am needs copying from automake's contrib directory into the GCC source tree. Autoconf 2.69 has Go support, so local copies of that support are removed. I hope the D support will soon be submitted to upstream autoconf so the local copy of that can be removed in a future update. Changes to how automake generates runtest calls mean quotes are removed from RUNTEST definitions in five lib*/testsuite/Makefile.am files (libatomic, libgomp, libitm, libphobos, libvtv; some others have RUNTEST definitions without quotes, which are still OK); libgo and libphobos also get -Wno-override added to AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE so those overrides of RUNTEST do not generate automake warnings. Note that the regeneration did not include regeneration of fixincludes/config.h.in (attempting such regeneration resulted in all the USED_FOR_TARGET conditionals disappearing; and I don't see anything in the fixincludes/ directory that would result in such conditionals being generated, unlike in the gcc/ directory). Also note that libvtv/testsuite/other-tests/Makefile.in was not regenerated; that directory is not listed as a subdirectory for which Makefile.in gets regenerated by calling "automake" in libvtv/, so I'm not sure how it's meant to be regenerated. While I mostly fixed warnings should running aclocal / automake / autoconf, there were various such warnings from automake in the libgfortran, libgo, libgomp, liboffloadmic, libsanitizer, libphobos directories that I did not fix, preferring to leave those to the relevant subsystem maintainers. Specifically, most of those warnings were of the following form (example from libgfortran): Makefile.am:48: warning: source file 'caf/single.c' is in a subdirectory, Makefile.am:48: but option 'subdir-objects' is disabled automake: warning: possible forward-incompatibility. automake: At least a source file is in a subdirectory, but the 'subdir-objects' automake: automake option hasn't been enabled. For now, the corresponding output automake: object file(s) will be placed in the top-level directory. However, automake: this behaviour will change in future Automake versions: they will automake: unconditionally cause object files to be placed in the same subdirectory automake: of the corresponding sources. automake: You are advised to start using 'subdir-objects' option throughout your automake: project, to avoid future incompatibilities. I think it's best for the relevant maintainers to add subdir-objects and do any other associated Makefile.am changes needed. In some cases the paths in the warnings involved ../; I don't know if that adds any extra complications to the use of subdir-objects. I've tested this with native, cross and Canadian cross builds.
