2023-09-30vec.h: Uncomment static_assertJakub Jelinek1-1/+1
Now that poly_int_pod has been removed and other changes mostly to use {quick,safe}_grow_cleared instead of {quick,safe}_grow for types with non-trivial default construction, we can enable even the last static assertion. From now on, {quick,safe}_grow can only be used with trivially default constructible types. 2023-09-30 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * vec.h (quick_grow): Uncomment static_assert.
2023-09-29vec.h: Guard most of static assertions for GCC >= 5Jakub Jelinek1-0/+21
As reported by Jonathan on IRC, my vec.h patch broke build with GCC 4.8.x or 4.9.x as system compiler, e.g. on CFarm. The problem is that while all of std::is_trivially_{destructible,copyable,default_constructible} traits are in C++, only std::is_trivially_destructible has been implemented in GCC 4.8, the latter two were added only in GCC 5. Only std::is_trivially_destructible is the really important one though, which is used to decide what pop returns and whether to invoke the destructors or not. The rest are solely used in static_asserts and as such I think it is acceptable if we don't assert those when built with GCC 4.8 or 4.9, anybody doing bootstrap from those system compilers or doing builds with newer GCC will catch that. So, the following patch guards those for 5+. If we switch to C++14 later on and start requiring newer version of system GCC as well (do we require GCC >= 5 which claims the last C++14 language features, or what provides all C++14 library features, or GCC >= 6 which uses -std=c++14 by default?), this patch then can be reverted. 2023-09-29 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * vec.h (quick_insert, ordered_remove, unordered_remove, block_remove, qsort, sort, stablesort, quick_grow): Guard std::is_trivially_{copyable,default_constructible} and vec_detail::is_trivially_copyable_or_pair static assertions with GCC_VERSION >= 5000. (vec_detail::is_trivially_copyable_or_pair): Guard definition with GCC_VERSION >= 5000.
2023-09-28vec.h: Make some ops work with non-trivially copy constructible and/or ↵Jakub Jelinek1-23/+104
destructible types We have some very limited support for non-POD types in vec.h (in particular grow_cleared will invoke default ctors on the cleared elements and vector copying invokes copy ctors. My pending work on wide_int/widest_int which makes those two non-trivially default constructible, copyable and destructible shows this isn't enough though. In particular the uses of it in irange shows that quick_push still uses just assignment operator rather than copy construction and we never invoke destructors on anything. The following patch does that for quick_push (copy construction using placement new rather than assignment, for trivially copy constructible types I think it should be the same) and invokes destructors (only if non-trivially destructible) in pop, release and truncate. Now as discussed last night on IRC, the pop case is problematic, because our pop actually does two things, it decreases length (so the previous last element should be destructed) but also returns a reference to it. We have some 300+ uses of this and the reference rather than returning it by value is useful at least for the elements which are (larger) POD structures, so I'm not prepared to change that. Though obviously for types with non-trivial destructors returning a reference to just destructed element is not a good idea. So, this patch for that case only makes pop return void instead and any users wishing to get the last element need to use last () and pop () separately (currently there are none). Note, a lot of vec.h operations is still not friendly for non-POD types, and the patch tries to enforce that through static asserts. Some operations are now only allowed on trivially copyable types, sorting operations as an extension on trivially copyable types or std::pair of 2 trivially copyable types, quick_grow/safe_grow (but not _cleared variants) for now have a commented out assert on trivially default constructible types - this needs some further work before the assert can be enabled - and finally all va_gc/va_gc_atomic vectors require trivially destructible types. 2023-09-28 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> Jonathan Wakely <jwakely@redhat.com> * vec.h: Mention in file comment limited support for non-POD types in some operations. (vec_destruct): New function template. (release): Use it for non-trivially destructible T. (truncate): Likewise. (quick_push): Perform a placement new into slot instead of assignment. 2023-09-27remove workaround for GCC 4.1-4.3 [PR105606]Jakub Jelinek1-15/+0
While looking into vec.h, I've noticed we still have a workaround for GCC 4.1-4.3 bugs. As we now use C++11 and thus need to be built by GCC 4.8 or later, I think this is now never used. 2023-09-27 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR c++/105606 * system.h (BROKEN_VALUE_INITIALIZATION): Don't define. * vec.h (vec_default_construct): Remove BROKEN_VALUE_INITIALIZATION workaround. * function.cc (assign_parm_find_data_types): Likewise.
2023-06-29A couple of va_gc_atomic tweaksRichard Sandiford1-4/+18
The only current user of va_gc_atomic is Ada's: vec<Entity_Id, va_gc_atomic> It uses the generic gt_pch_nx routines (with gt_pch_nx being the “note pointers” hooks), such as: template<typename T, typename A> void gt_pch_nx (vec<T, A, vl_embed> *v) { extern void gt_pch_nx (T &); for (unsigned i = 0; i < v->length (); i++) gt_pch_nx ((*v)[i]); } It then defines gt_pch_nx routines for Entity_Id &. The problem is that if we wanted to take the same approach for an array of unsigned ints, we'd need to define: inline void gt_pch_nx (unsigned int &) { } which would then be ambiguous with: inline void gt_pch_nx (unsigned int) { } The point of va_gc_atomic is that the elements don't need to be GCed, and so we have: template<typename T> void gt_ggc_mx (vec<T, va_gc_atomic, vl_embed> *v ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED) { /* Nothing to do. Vectors of atomic types wrt GC do not need to be traversed. */ } I think it's therefore reasonable to assume that no pointers will need to be processed for PCH either. The patch also relaxes the array_slice constructor for vec<T, va_gc> * so that it handles all embedded vectors. gcc/ * vec.h (gt_pch_nx): Add overloads for va_gc_atomic. (array_slice): Relax va_gc constructor to handle all vectors with a vl_embed layout. gcc/ada/ * gcc-interface/decl.cc (gt_pch_nx): Remove overloads for Entity_Id.
2023-02-24Avoid default-initializing auto_vec<T, N> storage, fix vec<vl_embed>Richard Biener1-11/+20
The following avoids default-initializing auto_vec storage for non-POD T since that's not what the allocated storage fallback will do and it's also not expected for existing cases like auto_vec<std::pair<unsigned, unsigned>, 64> elts; which exist to optimize the allocation. It also fixes the array accesses done by vec<vl_embed> to not use its own m_vecdata member but instead access the container provided storage via pointer arithmetic. * vec.h (vec<T, A, vl_embed>::m_vecdata): Remove. (vec<T, A, vl_embed>::m_vecpfx): Align as T to avoid changing alignment of vec<T, A, vl_embed> and simplifying address. (vec<T, A, vl_embed>::address): Compute as this + 1. (vec<T, A, vl_embed>::embedded_size): Use sizeof the vector instead of the offset of the m_vecdata member. (auto_vec<T, N>::m_data): Turn storage into uninitialized unsigned char. (auto_vec<T, N>::auto_vec): Allow allocation of one stack member. Initialize m_vec in a special way to avoid later stringop overflow diagnostics. * vec.cc (test_auto_alias): New. (vec_cc_tests): Call it.
2023-02-24Change vec<,,vl_embed>::m_vecdata refrences into address ()Richard Biener1-19/+25
As preparation to remove m_vecdata in the vl_embed vector this changes references to it into calls to address (). As I was here it also fixes ::contains to avoid repeated bounds checking and the same issue in ::lower_bound which also suffers from unnecessary copying around values. * vec.h (vec<T, A, vl_embed>::lower_bound): Adjust to take a const reference to the object, use address to access data. 2022-08-30vec: Add array_slice constructors from non-const and gc vectorsMartin Jambor1-0/+12
This patch adds constructors of array_slice that are required to create them from non-const (heap or auto) vectors or from GC vectors. gcc/ChangeLog: 2022-08-08 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> * vec.h (array_slice): Add constructors for non-const reference to heap vector and pointers to heap vectors.
2022-08-26Improve compute_control_dep_chain path findingRichard Biener1-0/+3
This improves the compute_control_dep_chain path finding by first marking the dominating region we search and then making sure to not walk outside if it when enumerating all paths from the dominating block to the interesting PHI edge source. I have limited the DFS walk done for the marking in similar ways as we limit the walking in compute_control_dep_chain, more careful limiting might be necessary though - the --param uninit-control-dep-attempts param I re-use has a rather high default of 1000 which we might be able to reduce with this patch as well (I think we'll usually hit some of the other limits before ever reaching this). * gimple-predicate-analysis.cc (dfs_mark_dominating_region): New helper. (compute_control_dep_chain): Adjust to honor marked region if provided. (uninit_analysis::init_from_phi_def): Pre-mark the dominating region to improve compute_control_dep_chain walking. * vec.h (vec<T, va_heap, vl_ptr>::allocated): Add forwarder.
2022-05-06vec: fix iterate commentJason Merrill1-2/+2

2021-12-09pch: Add support for relocation of the PCH data [PR71934]Jakub Jelinek1-1/+1
The following patch adds support for relocation of the PCH blob on PCH restore if we don't manage to get the preferred map slot for it. The GTY stuff knows where all the pointers are, after all it relocates it once during PCH save from the addresses where it was initially allocated to addresses in the preferred map slot. But, if we were to do it solely using GTY info upon PCH restore, we'd need another set of GTY functions, which I think would make it less maintainable and I think it would also be more costly at PCH restore time. Those functions would need to call something to add bias to pointers that haven't been marked yet and make sure not to add bias to any pointer twice. So, this patch instead builds a relocation table (sorted list of addresses in the blob which needs relocation) at PCH save time, stores it in a very compact form into the gch file and upon restore, adjusts pointers in GTY roots (that is right away in the root structures) and the addresses in the relocation table. The cost on stdc++.gch/O2g.gch (previously 85MB large) is about 3% file size growth, there are 2.5 million pointers that need relocation in the gch blob and the relocation table uses uleb128 for address deltas and needs ~1.01 bytes for one address that needs relocation, and about 20% compile time during PCH save (I think it is mainly because of the need to qsort those 2.5 million pointers). On PCH restore, if it doesn't need relocation (the usual case), it is just an extra fread of sizeof (size_t) data and fseek (in my tests real time on vanilla tree for #include <bits/stdc++.h> CU was ~0.175s and with the patch but no relocation ~0.173s), while if it needs relocation it took ~0.193s, i.e. 11.5% slower. Without PCH that #include <bits/stdc++.h> int i; testcase compiles with -O2 -g in ~1.199s, i.e. 6.2 times slower than PCH with relocation and 6.9 times than PCH without relocation. The discovery of the pointers in the blob that need relocation is done in the relocate_ptrs hook which does the pointer relocation during PCH save. Unfortunately, I had to make one change to the gengtype stuff due to the nested_ptr feature of GTY, which some libcpp headers and stringpool.c use. The relocate_ptrs hook had 2 arguments, pointer to the pointer and a cookie. When relocate_ptrs is done, in most cases it is called solely on the subfields of the current object, so e.g. if ((void *)(x) == this_obj) op (&((*x).u.fld[0].rt_rtx), cookie); so relocate_ptrs can assert that ptr_p is within the state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->obj .. state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->obj+state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->size-sizeof(void*) range and compute from that the address in the blob which will need relocation (state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->new_addr is the new address given to it and ptr_p-state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->obj is the relative offset. Unfortunately, for nested_ptr gengtype emits something like: { union tree_node * x0 = ((*x).val.node.node) ? HT_IDENT_TO_GCC_IDENT (HT_NODE (((*x).val.node.node))) : NULL; if ((void *)(x) == this_obj) op (&(x0), cookie); (*x).val.node.node = (x0) ? CPP_HASHNODE (GCC_IDENT_TO_HT_IDENT ((x0))) : NULL; } so relocate_ptrs is called with an address of some temporary variable and so doesn't know where the pointer will finally be. So, I've added another argument to relocate_ptrs (and to gt_pointer_operator). For the most common case I pass NULL as the new middle argument to that function, first one remains pointer to the pointer that needs adjustment and last the cookie. The NULL seems to be cheap to compute and short in the gt*.[ch] files and stands for ptr_p is an address within the this_obj's range, remember its address. For the nested_ptr case, the new middle argument contains actual address of the pointer that might need to be relocated, so instead of the above op (&(x0), &((*x).val.node.node), cookie); in there. And finally, e.g. for the reorder case I need a way to tell restore_ptrs to ignore a particular address for the relocation purposes and only treat it the old way. I've used for that the case when the first and second arguments are equal. In order to enable support for mapping PCH as fallback at different addresses than the preferred ones, a small change is needed to the host pch_use_address hooks. One change I've done to all of them is the change of the type of the first argument from void * to void *&, such that the actual address can be told to the callers (or shall I instead use void **?), but another change that still needs to be done in them if they want the relocation is actually not fail if they couldn't get a preferred address, but instead modify what the first argument refers to. I've done that only for host-linux.c and Iain is testing similar change for host-darwin.c. Didn't change hpux, netbsd, openbsd, solaris, mingw32 or the fallbacks because I can't test those. Tested also with the: --- gcc/config/host-linux.c.jj 2021-12-06 22:22:42.007777367 +0100 +++ gcc/config/host-linux.c 2021-12-07 00:21:53.052674040 +0100 @@ -191,6 +191,8 @@ linux_gt_pch_use_address (void *&base, s if (size == 0) return -1; +base = (char *) base + ((size + 8191) & (size_t) -4096); + /* Try to map the file with MAP_PRIVATE. */ addr = mmap (base, size, PROT_READ | PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE, fd, offset); hack which forces all PCH restores to be relocated. 2021-06-17auto_vec copy/move improvementsTrevor Saunders1-1/+30
- Unfortunately using_auto_storage () needs to handle m_vec being null. - Handle self move of an auto_vec to itself. - Make sure auto_vec defines the classes move constructor and assignment operator, as well as ones taking vec<T>, so the compiler does not generate them for us. Per https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/language/move_constructor the ones taking vec<T> do not count as the classes move constructor or assignment operator, but we want them as well to assign a plain vec to a auto_vec. - Explicitly delete auto_vec's copy constructor and assignment operator. This prevents unintentional expenssive coppies of the vector and makes it clear when coppies are needed that that is what is intended. When it is necessary to copy a vector copy () can be used. It looks cleaner if we can use a vec* directly as a range for the C++11 range-based 'for' loop, without needing to indirect from it, and also works with null pointers. The change in cp_parser_late_parsing_default_args is an example of how this can be used to simplify a simple loop over a vector. Reverse or subset iteration will require adding range adaptors. 2020-08-14vec: Fix bootstrap on i686-linux, 32-bit darwin and AIXJakub Jelinek1-3/+5
As mentioned earlier, embedded_size is broken on vecs of long long, double etc. on some platforms, which breaks bootstrap. E.g. on i686-linux, the problem is mostly with older GCC versions being used as stage1 compiler (GCC 4.8 to 7.* in particular), because alignas (long long) makes U 64-bit aligned, while when long long m_vecdata[1]; is in vec, it is only 32-bit aligned. We've tried various ways and the following one seems to work, use the old way (offsetof (vec, m_vecdata)) for non-class types as well as standard layout class types, i.e. whenever offsetof is guaranteed to work, and for others use the new day (in that case we don't run into problems with long long or other scalar types and for the structure layout there is just a struct with a given alignment. 2020-08-14 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> Jonathan Wakely <jwakely@redhat.com> * system.h: Include type_traits. * vec.h (vec<T, A, vl_embed>::embedded_size): Use offsetof and asserts on vec_stdlayout, which is conditionally a vec (for standard layout T) and otherwise vec_embedded. 2020-01-09vec.h: add auto_delete_vecDavid Malcolm1-0/+38
This patch adds a class auto_delete_vec<T>, a subclass of auto_vec <T *> that deletes all of its elements on destruction; it's used in many places in the analyzer patch kit. This is a crude way for a vec to "own" the objects it points to and clean up automatically (essentially a workaround for not being able to use unique_ptr, due to C++98). gcc/ChangeLog: * vec.c (class selftest::count_dtor): New class.
