2023-08-15Feed results of IPA-CP into tree value numberingMartin Jambor1-1/+33
PRs 68930 and 92497 show that when IPA-CP figures out constants in aggregate parameters or when passed by reference but the loads happen in an inlined function the information is lost. This happens even when the inlined function itself was known to have - or even cloned to have - such constants in incoming parameters because the transform phase of IPA passes is not run on them. See discussion in the bugs for reasons why. Honza suggested that we can plug the results of IPA-CP analysis into value numbering, so that FRE can figure out that some loads fetch known constants. This is what this patch attempts to do. The patch does not attempt to populate partial_defs with information from IPA-CP, this can be hopefully added as a follow-up. gcc/ChangeLog: 2023-08-11 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> PR ipa/68930 PR ipa/92497 * ipa-prop.h (ipcp_get_aggregate_const): Declare. * ipa-prop.cc (ipcp_get_aggregate_const): New function. 2023-07-21sccvn: Correct the index of bias for IFN_LEN_STORE [PR110744]Kewen Lin1-5/+8
Commit r14-2267-gb8806f6ffbe72e adjusts the arguments order of LEN_STORE from {len, vector, bias} to {len, bias, vector}, in order to make them consistent with LEN_MASK_STORE and MASK_STORE. But it missed to update the related handlings in tree-ssa-sccvn.cc, it caused the failure shown in PR 110744. This patch is to fix the related handlings with the correct index. PR tree-optimization/110744 gcc/ChangeLog: * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_reference_lookup_3): Correct the index of bias operand for ifn IFN_LEN_STORE.
2023-07-20tree-optimization/110204 - second level redundancy and simplificationRichard Biener1-1/+16
When PRE discovers a full redundancy during insertion it cannot unite the two value sets. Instead it inserts a copy old-val = new-val where new-val can also be a constant. The following looks through such copies during elimination, providing one extra level of constant and copy propagation. For the PR this helps avoiding a bogus diagnostic that's emitted on unreachable code during loop optimization. PR tree-optimization/110204 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (eliminate_dom_walker::eliminate_avail): Look through copies generated by PRE.

2023-04-26RISC-V: Bugfix for RVV vbool*_t vn_reference_equalPan Li1-0/+20
In most architecture the precision_size of vbool*_t types are caculated like as the multiple of the type size. For example: precision_size = type_size * 8 (aka, bit count per bytes). Unfortunately, some architecture like RISC-V will adjust the precision_size for the vbool*_t in order to align the ISA. For example as below. type_size = [1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 4, 8] precision_size = [1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64] Then the precision_size of RISC-V vbool*_t will not be the multiple of the type_size. This PATCH try to enrich this case when comparing the vn_reference. Given we have the below code: void test_vbool8_then_vbool16(int8_t * restrict in, int8_t * restrict out) { vbool8_t v1 = *(vbool8_t*)in; vbool16_t v2 = *(vbool16_t*)in; *(vbool8_t*)(out + 100) = v1; *(vbool16_t*)(out + 200) = v2; } Before this PATCH: csrr t0,vlenb slli t1,t0,1 csrr a3,vlenb sub sp,sp,t1 slli a4,a3,1 add a4,a4,sp addi a2,a1,100 vsetvli a5,zero,e8,m1,ta,ma sub a3,a4,a3 vlm.v v24,0(a0) vsm.v v24,0(a2) vsm.v v24,0(a3) addi a1,a1,200 csrr t0,vlenb vsetvli a4,zero,e8,mf2,ta,ma slli t1,t0,1 vlm.v v24,0(a3) vsm.v v24,0(a1) add sp,sp,t1 jr ra After this PATCH: addi a3,a1,100 vsetvli a4,zero,e8,m1,ta,ma addi a1,a1,200 vlm.v v24,0(a0) vsm.v v24,0(a3) vsetvli a5,zero,e8,mf2,ta,ma vlm.v v24,0(a0) vsm.v v24,0(a1) ret PR target/109272 gcc/ChangeLog: * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_reference_eq): add type vector subparts check for vn_reference equal. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gcc.target/riscv/rvv/base/pr108185-4.c: Update test check condition. * gcc.target/riscv/rvv/base/pr108185-5.c: Likewise. * gcc.target/riscv/rvv/base/pr108185-6.c: Likewise. 2023-04-13tree-optimization/109491 - ICE in expressions_equal_pRichard Biener1-0/+7
At some point I elided the NULL pointer check in expressions_equal_p because it shouldn't be necessary not realizing that for example TARGET_MEM_REF has optional operands we cannot substitute with something non-NULL with the same semantics. The following does the simple thing and restore the check removed in r11-4982. PR tree-optimization/109491 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (expressions_equal_p): Restore the NULL operands test.
2023-03-30tree-optimization/109342 - wrong code with edge equivalences in VNRichard Biener1-10/+27
The following testcase shows a problem in how we query valitity for equivalences on edges when the edge is a backedge and thus refering to a block thats later in the iteration order we use for VN. That causes the dominated_by_p_w_unex helper to look at edge executable state that's not yet computed and thus still at optimistic not executable state. The following makes sure to use a plain dominance check in these cases. PR tree-optimization/109342 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_nary_op_get_predicated_value): New overload for edge. When that edge is a backedge use dominated_by_p directly. * g++.dg/torture/pr109342.C: New testcase.

2023-02-17Fix wrong-code issue in VNRichard Biener1-5/+15
The following fixes the wrong removed dead store discovered on the PR108657 testcase when the reported DSE issue is not fixed. The issue is we were using ssa_undefined_value_p on virtual operands which returns a result based on the real definition of the definition statement. That doesn't make sense so this patch guards the calls properly and makes sure nobody else does the same mistake. * tree-ssa.cc (ssa_undefined_value_p): Assert we are not called on virtual operands. * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_phi_lookup): Guard ssa_undefined_value_p calls. 2023-02-14Improve VN PHI hash table handlingRichard Biener1-34/+43
The hash function of PHIs is weak since we want to be able to CSE them even across basic-blocks in some cases. The following avoids weakening the hash for cases we are never going to CSE, reducing the number of collisions and avoiding redundant work in the hash and equality functions. * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_phi_compute_hash): Key skipping basic block index hashing on the availability of ->cclhs. (vn_phi_eq): Avoid re-doing sanity checks for CSE but rely on ->cclhs availability. (vn_phi_lookup): Set ->cclhs only when we are eventually going to CSE the PHI. (vn_phi_insert): Likewise.
2023-02-13tree-optimization/28614 - high FRE time for gcc.c-torture/compile/20001226-1.cRichard Biener1-12/+12
I noticed that for gcc.c-torture/compile/20001226-1.c even -O1 has around 50% of the compile-time accounted to FRE. That's because we have blocks with a high incoming edge count and can_track_predicate_on_edge visits all of them even though it could stop after the second. The function is also called repeatedly for the same edge. The following fixes this and reduces the FRE time to 1% on the testcase. PR tree-optimization/28614 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (can_track_predicate_on_edge): Avoid walking all edges in most cases. (vn_nary_op_insert_pieces_predicated): Avoid repeated calls to can_track_predicate_on_edge unless checking is enabled. 2023-01-30tree-optimization/108574 - wrong-code with PRE PHI node processingRichard Biener1-6/+5
The PR108523 was too optimistic in replacing the same value with an equivalence from a possibly not taken edge. The following rectifies this and instead refrains from using the equivalence in the problematic cases. PR tree-optimization/108574 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (visit_phi): Instead of swapping sameval and def, ignore the equivalence if there's the danger of oscillating between two values. * gcc.dg/torture/pr108574-1.c: New testcase. * gcc.dg/torture/pr108574-2.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/torture/pr108574-3.c: Likewise.
2023-01-25tree-optimization/108523 - fix endless iteration in VNRichard Biener1-3/+11

2023-01-11PR tree-optimization/71343: Value number X<<2 as X*4.Roger Sayle1-0/+26
This patch is the second part of a fix for PR tree-optimization/71343, that implements Richard Biener's suggestion of using tree-ssa's value numbering instead of match.pd. The change is that when assigning a value number for the expression X<<C, we actually look-up or insert the value number for the multiplication X*(1<<C). This elegantly handles the fact that we (intentionally) don't canonicalize these as equivalent in GIMPLE, and the optimization/equivalence in PR 71343 now happens by (tree-ssa SCCVN) magic. 2023-01-11 Roger Sayle <roger@nextmovesoftware.com> gcc/ChangeLog PR tree-optimization/71343 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (visit_nary_op) <case LSHIFT_EXPR>: Make the value number of the expression X << C the same as the value number for the multiplication X * (1<<C). gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog PR tree-optimization/71343 * gcc.dg/pr71343-2.c: New test case.

2022-11-29tree-optimization/107852 - missed optimization with PHIsRichard Biener1-1/+50
The following deals with the situation where we have <bb 2> [local count: 1073741824]: _5 = bytes.D.25336._M_impl.D.24643._M_start; _6 = bytes.D.25336._M_impl.D.24643._M_finish; pretmp_66 = bytes.D.25336._M_impl.D.24643._M_end_of_storage; if (_5 != _6) goto <bb 3>; [70.00%] else goto <bb 4>; [30.00%] ... <bb 6> [local count: 329045359]: _89 = operator new (4); _43 = bytes.D.25336._M_impl.D.24643._M_start; _Num_44 = _137 - _43; if (_Num_44 != 0) but fail to see that _137 is equal to _5 and thus eventually _Num_44 is zero if not operator new would possibly clobber the global bytes variable. 2022-09-23tree-optimization/106922 - extend same-val clobber FRERichard Biener1-3/+7
The following extends the skipping of same valued stores to handle an arbitrary number of them as long as they are from the same value (which we now record). That's an obvious extension which allows to optimize the m_engaged member of std::optional more reliably. PR tree-optimization/106922 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_reference_lookup_3): Allow an arbitrary number of same valued skipped stores. * g++.dg/torture/pr106922.C: New testcase.
2022-09-22tree-optimization/106922 - missed FRE/PRERichard Biener1-30/+67
The following enhances the store-with-same-value trick in vn_reference_lookup_3 by not only looking for a = val; *ptr = val; .. = a; but also *ptr = val; other = x; .. = a; where the earlier store is more than one hop away. It does this by queueing the actual value to compare until after the walk but as disadvantage only allows a single such skipped store from a constant value. Unfortunately we cannot handle defs from non-constants this way since we're prone to pick up values from the past loop iteration this way and we have no good way to identify values that are invariant in the currently iterated cycle. That's why we keep the single-hop lookup for those cases. gcc.dg/tree-ssa/pr87126.c would be a testcase that's un-XFAILed when we'd handle those as well. PR tree-optimization/106922 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (vn_walk_cb_data::same_val): New member. (vn_walk_cb_data::finish): Perform delayed verification of a skipped may-alias. 2022-09-02tree-optimization/106809 - compile time hog in VNRichard Biener1-27/+30
The dominated_by_p_w_unex function is prone to high compile time. With GCC 12 we introduced a VN run for uninit diagnostics which now runs into a degenerate case with bison generated code. Fortunately this case is easy to fix with a simple extra check - a more general fix needs more work. 2022-06-22ubsan: default to trap on unreachable at -O0 and -Og [PR104642]Jason Merrill1-1/+1
When not optimizing, we can't do anything useful with unreachability in terms of code performance, so we might as well improve debugging by turning __builtin_unreachable into a trap. I think it also makes sense to do this when we're explicitly optimizing for the debugging experience. In the PR richi suggested introducing an -funreachable-traps flag for this. This functionality is already implemented as -fsanitize=unreachable -fsanitize-trap=unreachable, and we want to share the implementation, but it does seem useful to have a separate flag that isn't affected by the various sanitization controls. -fsanitize=unreachable takes priority over -funreachable-traps if both are enabled. Jakub observed that this would slow down -O0 by default from running the sanopt pass, so this revision avoids the need for sanopt by rewriting calls introduced by the compiler immediately, and calls written by the user at fold time. Many of the calls introduced by the compiler are also rewritten immediately to ubsan calls when not trapping, which fixes ubsan-8b.C; previously the call to f() was optimized away before sanopt. But this early rewriting isn't practical for uses of __builtin_unreachable in devirtualization and such, so sanopt rewriting is still done for non-trapping sanitize. PR c++/104642 gcc/ChangeLog: * common.opt: Add -funreachable-traps. * doc/invoke.texi (-funreachable-traps): Document it. * opts.cc (finish_options): Enable at -O0 or -Og. * tree.cc (build_common_builtin_nodes): Add __builtin_trap. 2022-05-13Make gimple_build main workers more flexibleRichard Biener1-1/+1
The following makes the main gimple_build API take a gimple_stmt_iterator, whether to insert before or after and an iterator update argument to make it more convenient to use in certain situations (see the tree-vect-generic.cc hunks for an example). It also makes the case we insert into the IL somewhat distinct from inserting into a standalone sequence in that it simplifies built expressions the same way as inserting and calling fold_stmt (..., follow_all_ssa_edges) would. When inserting into a standalone sequence we restrict simplification to defs within the currently building sequence. The patch only amends the tree_code gimple_build API, I will followup with converting the rest as well. The patch got larger than intended because the template forwarders now use gsi_last which introduces a dependency on gimple-iterator.h requiring mass #include re-org across the tree. There are two frontend specific files including gimple-fold.h just for some padding clearing stuff - I've removed the include and instead moved the declarations to fold-const.h (but not the implementations). Otherwise I'd have to include half of the middle-end headers in those files which I didn't much like. 2022-05-12 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> gcc/cp/ * constexpr.cc: Remove gimple-fold.h include. gcc/c-family/ * c-omp.cc: Remove gimple-fold.h include. gcc/analyzer/ * supergraph.cc: Re-order gimple-fold.h include. gcc/ * gimple-fold.cc (gimple_build): Adjust for new main API. * gimple-fold.h (gimple_build): New main APIs with iterator, insert direction and iterator update. When value-numbering an address expression like &p_74(D)->a1x[4294967295].a1; we are accumulating the byte offset in an 64bit integer. When later exploiting the duality between that and a POINTER_PLUS_EXPR we should avoid truncating that offset to fit in the target specific sizetype. 2022-02-25tree-optimization/103037 - PRE simplifying valueized expressionsRichard Biener1-7/+4
This fixes a long-standing issue in PRE where we track valueized expressions in our expression sets that we use for PHI translation, code insertion but also feed into match-and-simplify via vn_nary_simplify. But that's not what is expected from vn_nary_simplify or match-and-simplify which assume we are simplifying with operands available at the point of the expression so they can use contextual information on the SSA names like ranges. While the VN side was updated to ensure this with the rewrite to RPO VN, thereby removing all workarounds that nullified such contextual info on all SSA names, the PRE side still suffers from this. The following patch tries to apply minimal surgery at this point and makes PRE track un-valueized expressions in the expression sets but only for the NARY kind (both NAME and CONSTANT do not suffer from this issue), leaving the REFERENCE kind alone. The REFERENCE kind is important when trying to remove the workarounds still in place in compute_avail for code hoisting, but that's a separate issue and we have a working workaround in place. Doing this comes at the cost of duplicating the VN IL on the PRE side for NARY and eventually some extra overhead for translated expressions that is difficult to assess. 2022-02-25 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> PR tree-optimization/103037 * tree-ssa-sccvn.h (alloc_vn_nary_op_noinit): Declare. The following testcase is miscompiled, because -fipa-pure-const discovers that bar is const, but when sccvn during fre3 sees # .MEM_140 = VDEF <.MEM_96> *__pred$__d_43 = _50 (_49); where _50 value numbers to &bar, it value numbers .MEM_140 to vuse_ssa_val (gimple_vuse (stmt)). For const/pure calls that return a SSA_NAME (or don't have lhs) that is fine, those calls don't store anything, but if the lhs is present and not an SSA_NAME, value numbering the vdef to anything but itself means that e.g. walk_non_aliased_vuses won't consider the call, but the call acts as a store to its lhs. When it is ignored, sccvn will return whatever has been stored to the lhs earlier. I've bootstrapped/regtested an earlier version of this patch, which did the if (!lhs && gimple_call_lhs (stmt)) changed |= set_ssa_val_to (vdef, vdef); part before else if (vnresult->result_vdef), and that regressed +FAIL: gcc.dg/pr51879-16.c scan-tree-dump-times pre "foo \\\\(" 1 +FAIL: gcc.dg/pr51879-16.c scan-tree-dump-times pre "foo2 \\\\(" 1 so this updated patch uses result_vdef there as before and only otherwise (which I think must be the const/pure case) decides based on whether the lhs is non-SSA_NAME. 2022-02-24 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR tree-optimization/104601 * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (visit_reference_op_call): For calls with non-SSA_NAME lhs value number vdef to itself instead of e.g. the vuse value number. * g++.dg/torture/pr104601.C: New test.
2022-02-10tree-optimization/104373 - early diagnostic on unreachable codeRichard Biener1-10/+8
The following improves early uninit diagnostics by computing edge reachability using VN and ignoring unreachable blocks when looking for uninitialized uses. To not ICE with -fdump-tree-all the early uninit pass needs a dumpfile since VN tries to dump statistics. 2022-02-04 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> PR tree-optimization/104373 * tree-ssa-sccvn.h (do_rpo_vn): New export exposing the walk kind. * tree-ssa-sccvn.cc (do_rpo_vn): Export, get the default walk kind as argument.
