may_propagate_copy unnecessarily restricts propagating non-abnormals into places that currently contain an abnormal SSA name but are not the PHI argument for an abnormal edge. This causes VN to not elide a CFG path that it assumes is elided, resulting in released SSA names in the IL. The fix is to enhance the may_propagate_copy API to specify the destination is _not_ a PHI argument. 2021-09-28tree-optimization/100112 - VN last_vuse and redundant store eliminationRichard Biener1-4/+13
This avoids the last_vuse optimization hindering redundant store elimination by always also recording the original VUSE that was in effect on the load. In stage3 gcc/*.o we have 3182752 times recorded a single entry and 903409 times two entries (that's ~20% overhead). With just recording a single entry the number of hashtable lookups done when walking the vuse->vdef links to find an earlier access is 28961618. 2021-09-22More NEGATE_EXPR folding in match.pdRoger Sayle1-16/+19
As observed by Jakub in comment #2 of PR 98865, the expression -(a>>63) is optimized in GENERIC but not in GIMPLE. Investigating further it turns out that this is one of a few transformations performed by fold_negate_expr in fold-const.c that aren't yet performed by match.pd. This patch moves/duplicates them there, and should be relatively safe as these transformations are already performed by the compiler, but just in different passes. This revised patch adds a Boolean simplify argument to tree-ssa-sccvn.c's vn_nary_build_or_lookup_1 to control whether simplification should be performed before value numbering, updating the callers, but then avoiding simplification when constructing/value-numbering NEGATE_EXPR. This makes us avoid PREing calls that could trap across other calls that might not return. The PR88087 testcase has exactly such case so I've refactored the testcase to contain a valid PRE. I've also adjusted PRE to not consider pure calls possibly not returning in line with what we do elsewhere. Note we don't have a good idea whether a function always returns normally or whether its body is known to never trap. 2021-07-13passes: Fix up subobject __bos [PR101419]Jakub Jelinek1-4/+2
The following testcase is miscompiled, because VN during cunrolli changes __bos argument from address of a larger field to address of a smaller field and so __builtin_object_size (, 1) then folds into smaller value than the actually available size. copy_reference_ops_from_ref has a hack for this, but it was using cfun->after_inlining as a check whether the hack can be ignored, and cunrolli is after_inlining. VN sometimes builds new integer types to handle accesss where precision of the access type does not match the access size. The way ao_ref_init_from_vn_reference is computing the access size ignores the access type in case the ref operands have an outermost COMPONENT_REF which, in case it is an array for example, can be way larger than the access size. This can cause us to try building an integer type with precision larger than WIDE_INT_MAX_PRECISION eventually leading to memory corruption. The following adjusts ao_ref_init_from_vn_reference to only lower access sizes via the outermost COMPONENT_REF but otherwise honor the access size as specified by the access type. As discussed in the PR, the problem here is that the routines changed in this patch sign extend the difference of index and low_bound from the precision of the index, so e.g. when index is unsigned int and contains value -2U, we treat it as index -2 rather than 0x00000000fffffffeU on 64-bit arches. 2020-11-10sccvn: Fix up push_partial_def little-endian bitfield handling [PR97764]Jakub Jelinek1-1/+4
This patch fixes a thinko in the left-endian push_partial_def path. As the testcase shows, we have 3 bitfields in the struct, bitoff bitsize 0 3 3 28 31 1 the corresponding read is the byte at offset 3 (i.e. 24 bits) and push_partial_def first handles the full store ({}) to all bits and then is processing the store to the middle bitfield with value of -1. Here are the interesting spots: pd.offset -= offseti; this adjusts the pd to { -21, 28 }, the (for little-endian lowest) 21 bits aren't interesting to us, we only care about the upper 7. len = native_encode_expr (pd.rhs, this_buffer, bufsize, MAX (0, -pd.offset) / BITS_PER_UNIT); native_encode_expr has the offset parameter in bytes and we tell it that we aren't interested in the first (lowest) two bytes of the number. It encodes 0xff, 0xff with len == 2 then. HOST_WIDE_INT size = pd.size; if (pd.offset < 0) size -= ROUND_DOWN (-pd.offset, BITS_PER_UNIT); we get 28 - 16, i.e. 12 - the 16 is subtracting those 2 bytes that we omitted in native_encode_expr. size = MIN (size, (HOST_WIDE_INT) needed_len * BITS_PER_UNIT); needed_len is how many bytes the read at most needs, and that is 1, so we get size 8 and copy all 8 bits (i.e. a single byte plus nothing) from the native_encode_expr filled this_buffer; this incorrectly sets the byte to 0xff when we want 0x7f. The above line is correct for the pd.offset >= 0 case when we don't skip anything, but for the pd.offset < 0 case we need to subtract also the remainder of the bits we aren't interested in (the code shifts the bytes by that number of bits). If it weren't for the big-endian path, we could as well do if (pd.offset < 0) size += pd.offset; but the big-endian path needs it differently. This produces a more optimal RPO order for iteration processing by making sure that SCC exits are processed before SCC members themselves.. This avoids iterating blocks unrelated to the current iteration for RPO VN and has the chance to improve code-generation for the non-iterative mode of RPO VN. The patch also exposes toplevel SCCs and gets rid of the ad-hoc max_rpo computation in RPO VN. For simplicity it also removes the odd reverse ordering of the RPO array returned from rev_post_order_and_mark_dfs_back_seme. Overall reduction in the number of visited blocks isn't spectacular for bootstrap (~2.5%) but single cases see up to a 10% reduction.
