2020-11-13Improve handling of memory operands in ipa-icf 2/4Jan Hubicka1-0/+2
this patch iplements new class ao_compare that is derived from operand_compare and adds a method to compare and hash ao_refs. This is used by ICF to enable more merging. Comparsion is done as follows 1) Verify that the memory access will happen at the same address and will have same size. For constant addresses this is done by comparing ao_ref_base and offset/size For varable accesses it uses operand_equal_p but with OEP_ADDRESS (that does not match TBAA metadata) and then operand_equal_p on type size. 2) Compare alignments. I use get_object_alignment_1 like ipa-icf did before revamp to operand_equal_p in gcc 9. I noticed that return value is bitodd so added a comment 3) Match MR_DEPENDENCE_CLIQUE At this point the memory refrences are same except for TBAA information. We continue by checking 4) ref and base alias sets. Now if lto streaming is going to happen instead of comparing alias sets themselves we compare alias_ptr_types (the patch depends on the ao_ref_alias_ptr_tyep and ao_ref_base_alias_ptr_type acessors I sent yesterday) 5) See if accesses are view converted. If they are we are done since access path is not present 6) Compare the part of access path relevant for TBAA. I recall FRE relies on the fact that if base and ref types are same the access path is, but I do not thing this is 100% reliable especially with LTO alias sets. The access path comparsion logic is also useful for modref (for next stage1). Tracking the access paths improves quite noticeably disambiguation in C++ code by being able to distinquish different fields of same type within a struct. I had the comparsion logic in my tree for some time and it seems to work quite well. During cc1plus build we have some cases where we find mismatch after matching the base/ref alias sets. These are due to failed type merging: access path oracle in LTO uses TYPE_MAIN_VARIANTs. I implemented relatively basic hashing using base and offset. gcc/ChangeLog: * ipa-icf-gimple.c: Include tree-ssa-alias-compare.h. (find_checker::func_checker): Initialize m_tbaa. 2019-12-19gimple const-correctness fixesDavid Malcolm1-1/+1
This patch converts various "gimple *" to "const gimple *" and similar fixes for gimple subclasses, adding is_a_helper for gimple subclasses to support the const form of as_a, and adding a few "const" overloads of accessors. 2017-11-01Don't treat zero-sized ranges as overlappingRichard Sandiford1-0/+2
Most GCC ranges seem to be represented as an offset and a size (rather than a start and inclusive end or start and exclusive end). The usual test for whether X is in a range is of course: x >= start && x < start + size or: x >= start && x - start < size which means that an empty range of size 0 contains nothing. But other range tests aren't as obvious. The usual test for whether one range is contained within another range is: start1 >= start2 && start1 + size1 <= start2 + size2 while the test for whether two ranges overlap (from ranges_overlap_p) is: (start1 >= start2 && start1 < start2 + size2) || (start2 >= start1 && start2 < start1 + size1) i.e. the ranges overlap if one range contains the start of the other range. This leads to strange results like: (start X, size 0) is a subrange of (start X, size 0) but (start X, size 0) does not overlap (start X, size 0) Similarly: (start 4, size 0) is a subrange of (start 2, size 2) but (start 4, size 0) does not overlap (start 2, size 2) It seems like "X is a subrange of Y" should imply "X overlaps Y". This becomes harder to ignore with the runtime sizes and offsets added for SVE. The most obvious fix seemed to be to say that an empty range does not overlap anything, and is therefore not a subrange of anything. Using the new definition of subranges didn't seem to cause any codegen differences in the testsuite. But there was one change with the new definition of overlapping ranges. strncpy-chk.c has: memset (dst, 0, sizeof (dst)); if (strncpy (dst, src, 0) != dst || strcmp (dst, "")) abort(); The strncpy is detected as a zero-size write, and so with the new definition of overlapping ranges, we treat the strncpy as having no effect on the strcmp (which is true). The reaching definition is the memset instead. This patch makes ranges_overlap_p return false for zero-sized ranges, even if the other range has an unknown size. 2017-11-01 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * tree-ssa-alias.h (ranges_overlap_p): Return false if either range is known to be empty. 2013-03-29Add uniform debug dump function names.Lawrence Crowl1-0/+2
Add some overloaded functions that provide uniform debug dump function names. These names are: debug: the general debug dumper debug_verbose: for more details debug_raw: for the gory details debug_head: for the heads of declarations, e.g. function heads debug_body: for the bodies of declarations, e.g. function bodies Not all types have the last four versions. The debug functions come in two flavors, those that take pointers to the type, and those that take references to the type. The first handles printing of '<nil>' for null pointers. The second assumes a valid reference, and prints the content. Example uses are as follows: cp_token t, *p; debug (t); debug (p); From the debugger, use call debug (t) The functions sets implemented are: debug (only) basic_block_def, const bitmap_head_def, cp_binding_level, cp_parser, cp_token, data_reference, die_struct, edge_def, gimple_statement_d, ira_allocno, ira_allocno_copy, live_range, lra_live_range, omega_pb_d, pt_solution, const rtx_def, sreal, tree_live_info_d, _var_map, vec<cp_token, va_gc>, vec<data_reference_p>, vec<ddr_p>, vec<rtx>, vec<tree, va_gc>, debug and debug_raw simple_bitmap_def debug and debug_verbose expr_def, struct loop, vinsn_def debug, debug_raw, debug_verbose, debug_head, debug_body const tree_node This patch is somewhat different from the original plan at gcc.gnu.org/wiki/cxx-conversion/debugging-dumps. The reason is that gdb has an incomplete implementation of C++ call syntax; requiring explicit specification of template arguments and explicit specification of function arguments even when they have default values. So, the original plan would have required typing call dump <cp_token> (t, 0, 0, stderr) which is undesireable. Instead instead of templates, we overload plain functions. This adds a small burden of manually adding the pointer version of dump for each type. Instead of default function arguments, we simply assume the default values. Most of the underlying dump functions did not use the options and indent parameters anyway. Several provide FILE* parameters, but we expect debugging to use stderr anyway. So, the explicit specification of arguments was not as valuable as we thought initially. Finally, a change of name from dump to debug reflect the implicit output to stderr.
