2025-01-20inline: Purge the abnormal edges as needed in fold_marked_statements [PR118077]Andrew Pinski1-2/+20
While fixing PR target/117665, I had noticed that fold_marked_statements would not purge the abnormal edges which could not be taken any more due to folding a call (devirtualization or simplification of a [target] builtin). Devirutalization could also cause a call that used to be able to have an abornal edge become one not needing one too so this was needed for GCC 15. 2025-01-14OpenMP: Remove dead code from declare variant reimplementationSandra Loosemore1-4/+0
After reimplementing late resolution of "declare variant", the declare_variant_alt and calls_declare_variant_alt flags on struct cgraph_node are no longer used by anything. For the purposes of marking functions that need late resolution, the has_omp_variant_constructs flag has replaced calls_declare_variant_alt. Likewise struct omp_declare_variant_entry, struct omp_declare_variant_base_entry, and the hash tables used to store these structures are no longer needed, since the information needed for late resolution is now stored in the gomp_variant_construct nodes. In addition, some obsolete code that was temporarily ifdef'ed out instead of delted in order to produce a more readable patch for the previous installment of this series is now removed entirely. There are no functional changes in this patch, just removing dead code. gcc/ChangeLog * cgraph.cc (symbol_table::create_edge): Don't set calls_declare_variant_alt in the caller. * cgraph.h (struct cgraph_node): Remove declare_variant_alt and calls_declare_variant_alt flags. * cgraphclones.cc (cgraph_node::create_clone): Don't copy calls_declare_variant_alt bit. * gimplify.cc: Remove previously #ifdef-ed out code. * ipa-free-lang-data.cc (free_lang_data_in_decl): Adjust code referencing declare_variant_alt bit. * ipa.cc (symbol_table::remove_unreachable_nodes): Likewise. * lto-cgraph.cc (lto_output_node): Remove references to deleted bits. 2025-01-14OpenMP: Re-work and extend context selector resolutionSandra Loosemore1-0/+4
This patch reimplements the middle-end support for "declare variant" and extends the resolution mechanism to also handle metadirectives (PR112779). It also adds partial support for dynamic selectors (PR113904) and fixes a selector scoring bug reported as PR114596. I hope this rewrite also improves the engineering aspect of the code, e.g. more comments to explain what it is doing. In most cases, variant constructs can be resolved either in the front end or during gimplification; if the variant with the highest score has a static selector, then only that one is emitted. In the case where it has a dynamic selector, it is resolved into a (possibly nested) if/then/else construct, testing the run-time predicate for each selector sorted by decreasing order of score until a static selector is found. In some cases, notably a variant construct in a "declare simd" function which may or may not expand into a simd clone, it may not be possible to score or sort the variants until later in compilation (the ompdevlow pass). In this case the gimplifier emits a loop containing a switch statement with the variants in arbitrary order and uses the OMP_NEXT_VARIANT tree node as a placeholder to control which variant is tested on each iteration of the loop. It looks something like: switch_var = OMP_NEXT_VARIANT (0, state); loop_label: switch (switch_var) { case 1: if (dynamic_selector_predicate_1) { alternative_1; goto end_label; } else { switch_var = OMP_NEXT_VARIANT (1, state); goto loop_label; } case 2: ... } end_label: Note that when there are no dynamic selectors, the loop is unnecessary and only the switch is emitted. Finally, in the ompdevlow pass, the OMP_NEXT_VARIANT magic cookies are resolved and replaced with constants. When compiling with -O we can expect that the loop and switch will be discarded by subsequent optimizations and replaced with direct jumps between the cases, eventually arriving at code with similar control flow to the early-resolution cases. This approach is somewhat simpler than the one currently used for handling declare variant in that all possible code paths are already included in the output of the gimplifier, so it is not necessary to maintain hidden references or data structures pointing to expansions of not-yet-resolved variant constructs and special logic for passing them through LTO (see PR lto/96680). A possible disadvantage of this expansion strategy is that dead code for unused variants in the switch can remain when compiling without -O. If this turns out to be a critical problem (e.g., an unused case includes calls to functions not available to the linker) perhaps some further processing could be performed by default after ompdevlow to simplify such constructs. In order to make this patch more readable for review purposes, it leaves the existing code for "declare variant" resolution (including the above-mentioned LTO hack) in place, in some cases just ifdef-ing out functions that won't compile due to changed interfaces for dependencies. The next patch in the series will delete all the now-unused code. gcc/ChangeLog PR middle-end/114596 PR middle-end/112779 PR middle-end/113904 * Makefile.in (GTFILES): Move omp-general.h earlier; required because of moving score_wide_int declaration to that file. * cgraph.h (struct cgraph_node): Add has_omp_variant_constructs flag. * cgraphclones.cc (cgraph_node::create_clone): Propagate has_omp_variant_constructs flag. * gimplify.cc (omp_resolved_variant_calls): New. 2025-01-14OpenMP: New tree nodes for metadirective and dynamic selector support.Sandra Loosemore1-0/+7
This patch adds basic support for three new tree node types that will be used in subsequent patches to support OpenMP metadirectives and dynamic selectors. OMP_METADIRECTIVE is the internal representation of parsed OpenMP metadirective constructs. It's produced by the front ends and is expanded during gimplification. OMP_NEXT_VARIANT is used as a "magic cookie" for late resolution of variant constructs that cannot be fully resolved during gimplification, used to set the controlling variable of a switch statement that branches to the next alternative once the candidate list can be filtered and sorted. These nodes are expanded into constants in the ompdevlow pass. In some gimple passes, they need to be treated as constants. OMP_TARGET_DEVICE_MATCHES is a similar "magic cookie" used to resolve the target_device dynamic selector. It is wrapped in an OpenMP target construct, and can be resolved to a constant in the ompdevlow pass. gcc/ChangeLog: * doc/generic.texi (OpenMP): Document OMP_METADIRECTIVE, OMP_NEXT_VARIANT, and OMP_TARGET_DEVICE_MATCHES. * fold-const.cc (operand_compare::hash_operand): Ignore the new nodes. * gimple-expr.cc (is_gimple_val): Allow OMP_NEXT_VARIANT and OMP_TARGET_DEVICE_MATCHES. * gimple.cc (get_gimple_rhs_num_ops): OMP_NEXT_VARIANT and OMP_TARGET_DEVICE_MATCHES are both GIMPLE_SINGLE_RHS. * tree-cfg.cc (tree_node_can_be_shared): Allow sharing of OMP_NEXT_VARIANT. * tree-inline.cc (remap_gimple_op_r): Ignore subtrees of OMP_NEXT_VARIANT. * tree-pretty-print.cc (dump_generic_node): Handle OMP_METADIRECTIVE, OMP_NEXT_VARIANT, and OMP_TARGET_DEVICE_MATCHES. * tree-ssa-operands.cc (operands_scanner::get_expr_operands): Ignore operands of OMP_NEXT_VARIANT and OMP_TARGET_DEVICE_MATCHES. * tree.def (OMP_METADIRECTIVE): New. 2024-11-22build: Remove INCLUDE_MEMORY [PR117737]Andrew Pinski1-1/+0
Since diagnostic.h is included in over half of the sources, requiring to `#define INCLUDE_MEMORY` does not make sense. Instead lets unconditionally include memory in system.h. The majority of this patch is just removing `#define INCLUDE_MEMORY` from the sources which currently have it. This should also fix the mingw build issue but I have not tried it. 2024-11-20OpenMP: middle-end support for dispatch + adjust_argsPaul-Antoine Arras1-0/+7
This patch adds middle-end support for the `dispatch` construct and the `adjust_args` clause. The heavy lifting is done in `gimplify_omp_dispatch` and `gimplify_call_expr` respectively. For `adjust_args`, this mostly consists in emitting a call to `omp_get_mapped_ptr` for the adequate device. For dispatch, the following steps are performed: * Handle the device clause, if any: set the default-device ICV at the top of the dispatch region and restore its previous value at the end. * Handle novariants and nocontext clauses, if any. Evaluate compile-time constants and select a variant, if possible. Otherwise, emit code to handle all possible cases at run time. gcc/ChangeLog: * builtins.cc (builtin_fnspec): Handle BUILT_IN_OMP_GET_MAPPED_PTR. * gimple-low.cc (lower_stmt): Handle GIMPLE_OMP_DISPATCH. * gimple-pretty-print.cc (dump_gimple_omp_dispatch): New function. 2024-10-25gcc: Remove trailing whitespaceJakub Jelinek1-4/+4
I've tried to build stage3 with -Wleading-whitespace=blanks -Wtrailing-whitespace=blank -Wno-error=leading-whitespace=blanks -Wno-error=trailing-whitespace=blank added to STRICT_WARN and that expectably resulted in about 2744 unique trailing whitespace warnings and 124837 leading whitespace warnings when excluding *.md files (which obviously is in big part a generator issue). Others from that are generator related, I think those need to be solved later. The following patch just fixes up the easy case (trailing whitespace), which could be easily automated: for i in `find . -name \*.h -o -name \*.cc -o -name \*.c | xargs grep -l '[ ]$' | grep -v testsuite/`; do sed -i -e 's/[ ]*$//' $i; done I've excluded files which I knew are obviously generated or go FE. Is there anything else we'd want to avoid the changes? Due to patch size, I've split it between gcc/ part (this patch) and rest (include/, libiberty/, libgcc/, libcpp/, libstdc++-v3/). 2024-10-24 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> gcc/ * lra-assigns.cc: 2024-10-24Use unique_ptr in more places in pretty_printer/diagnostics [PR116613]David Malcolm1-0/+1
My forthcoming patches for PR other/116613 make much more use of cloning of pretty_printers than before, so it makes sense as a preliminary patch for the result of pretty_printer::clone to be a std::unique_ptr, rather than add more manual uses of "delete". On doing so, I noticed various other places where naked new/delete is used for run-time configuration of diagnostics: * the output format (text vs SARIF) * client data hooks * the option manager * the URLifier Hence this patch also makes use of std::unique_ptr and ::make_unique for managing such client policy classes, and also for diagnostic_buffer's per-format implementations. Unfortunately we can't directly include <memory> in our internal headers but instead any of our TUs that make use of std::unique_ptr must #define INCLUDE_MEMORY before including system.h. Hence the bulk of this patch is taken up with adding a define of INCLUDE_MEMORY to hundreds of source files: everything that includes diagnostic.h or pretty-print.h (and thus anything transitively such as includers of lto-wrapper.h, c-tree.h, cp-tree.h and rtl-ssa.h). 2024-10-01Fix wrong code out of NRV + RSO + inliningEric Botcazou1-1/+15
The testcase is miscompiled with -O -flto beccause the three optimizations NRV + RSO + inlining are applied to the same call: when the LHS of the call is marked write-only before inlining, it will keep the mark after inlining although it may be read in GIMPLE from that point on. The fix is to apply the removal of the store, that would have been applied later if the call was not inlined, right before inlining, which will prevent the problematic references to the LHS from being generated during inlining. gcc/ * tree-inline.cc (expand_call_inline): Remove the store to the return slot if it is a global variable that is only written to. gcc/testsuite/ * gnat.dg/lto28.adb: New test. * gnat.dg/lto28_pkg1.ads: New helper. * gnat.dg/lto28_pkg2.ads: Likewise. * gnat.dg/lto28_pkg2.adb: Likewise. * gnat.dg/lto28_pkg3.ads: Likewise.
2024-05-07tree-inline: Remove .ASAN_MARK calls when inlining functions into ↵Jakub Jelinek1-7/+21
no_sanitize callers [PR114956] In r9-5742 we've started allowing to inline always_inline functions into functions which have disabled e.g. address sanitization even when the always_inline function is implicitly from command line options sanitized. This mostly works fine because most of the asan instrumentation is done only late after ipa, but as the following testcase the .ASAN_MARK ifn calls gimplifier adds can result in ICEs. Fixed by dropping those during inlining, similarly to how we drop .TSAN_FUNC_EXIT calls. 2024-05-07 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR sanitizer/114956 * tree-inline.cc: Include asan.h. 2024-05-03tree-inline: Add __builtin_stack_{save,restore} pair about inline calls with ↵Jakub Jelinek1-0/+34
calls to alloca [PR113596] The following patch adds save_NNN = __builtin_stack_save (); ... __builtin_stack_restore (save_NNN); pair around inline calls which call alloca (alloca calls because of VLA vars are ignored in that decision). The patch doesn't change anything on whether we try to inline such calls or not, it just fixes the behavior when we inline them despite those checks. The stack save/restore restores the behavior that alloca acquired regions are freed at the end of the containing call. 2024-05-03 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR middle-end/113596 * tree-inline.cc (expand_call_inline): Emit __builtin_stack_save and __builtin_stack_restore calls around inlined functions which call alloca. * gcc.dg/pr113596.c: New test. * gcc.dg/tree-ssa/pr113596.c: New test.

2024-04-09Add tree-inlined gconds to caller cond->expr mapJørgen Kvalsvik1-19/+24
Properly add the condition -> expression mapping of inlined gconds from the caller into the callee map. This is a fix for PR114599 that works beyond fixing the segfault, as the previous fixed copied references to the source gconds, not the deep copied ones that end up in the calle body. The new tests checks this, both in the case of a calle without conditions (which triggered the segfault), and a test that shows that conditions are properly mapped, and not mixed. PR middle-end/114599 gcc/ChangeLog: * tree-inline.cc (copy_bb): Copy cond_uids into callee. (prepend_lexical_block): Remove outdated comment. When a function is tree-inlined, copy the condition -> expression mapping from the inlined function into the caller, shifted so uids are not mixed. 2024-03-09ipa: Avoid excessive removing of SSAs (PR 113757)Martin Jambor1-12/+2
PR 113757 shows that the code which was meant to debug-reset and remove SSAs defined by LHSs of calls redirected to __builtin_unreachable can trigger also when speculative devirtualization creates a call to a noreturn function (and since it is noreturn, it does not bother dealing with its return value). What is more, it seems that the code handling this case is not really necessary. I feel slightly idiotic about this because I have a feeling that I added it because of a failing test-case but I can neither find the testcase nor a reason why the code in cgraph_edge::redirect_call_stmt_to_callee would not be sufficient (it turns the SSA name into a default-def, a bit like IPA-SRA, but any code dominated by a call to a noreturn is not dangerous when it comes to its side-effects). So this patch just removes the handling. gcc/ChangeLog: 2024-02-07 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> PR ipa/113757 * tree-inline.cc (redirect_all_calls): Remove code adding SSAs to id->killed_new_ssa_names. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: 2024-02-07 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> PR ipa/113757 * g++.dg/ipa/pr113757.C: New test.
2024-03-01c++/modules: depending local enums [PR104919, PR106009]Patrick Palka1-3/+11
For local enums defined in a non-template function or a function template instantiation it seems we neglect to make the function depend on the enum definition (which modules considers logically separate), which ultimately causes the enum definition to not be properly streamed before uses within the function definition are streamed. The code responsible for noting such dependencies is gcc/cp/module.cc @@ -8784,17 +8784,6 @@ trees_out::decl_node (tree decl, walk_kind ref) depset *dep = NULL; if (streaming_p ()) dep = dep_hash->find_dependency (decl); ! else if (TREE_CODE (ctx) != FUNCTION_DECL ! || TREE_CODE (decl) == TEMPLATE_DECL ! || (dep_hash->sneakoscope && DECL_IMPLICIT_TYPEDEF_P (decl)) ! || (DECL_LANG_SPECIFIC (decl) ! && DECL_MODULE_IMPORT_P (decl))) ! { ! auto kind = (TREE_CODE (decl) == NAMESPACE_DECL ! && !DECL_NAMESPACE_ALIAS (decl) ! ? depset::EK_NAMESPACE : depset::EK_DECL); ! dep = dep_hash->add_dependency (decl, kind); ! } if (!dep) { and the condition there notably excludes local TYPE_DECLs from a non-template-pattern function (when streaming a template pattern we'll see be dealing with the corresponding TEMPLATE_DECL of the local TYPE_DECL here, so we'll add the dependency). Local classes on the other hand seem to work properly, but perhaps by accident: with a local class we end up making the function depend on the injected-class-name of the local class rather than the local class as a whole because the injected-class-name satisfies the criteria (since its context is the local class, not the function). The 'sneakoscope' flag is set when walking a function declaration and its purpose seems to be to catch a local type that escapes the function via a deduced return type (so called voldemort types) and note a dependency on them. But there seems to be no reason to restrict this behavior to voldemort types, and indeed consistently noting the dependency for all local types fixes these PRs (almost). So this patch gets rid of this flag and enables the dependency tracking unconditionally. This was nearly enough to make things work, except we now ran into issues with the local TYPE_/CONST_DECL copies from the pre-gimplified version of a constexpr function body during streaming. Rather than making modules cope with this, it occurred to me that we don't need to make copies of local types when saving the pre-gimplified body (and when making further copies thereof); only VAR_DECLs etc need to be copied (so that we don't conflate local variables from different recursive calls to the same function during constexpr evaluation). So this patch adjusts copy_fn accordingly. PR c++/104919 PR c++/106009 gcc/cp/ChangeLog: * module.cc (depset::hash::sneakoscope): Remove. 2024-01-29debug/103047 - argument order of inlined functionsRichard Biener1-0/+4
The inliner puts variables for parameters of the inlined functions in the inline scope in reverse order. The following reverses them again so that we get consistent ordering between the DW_TAG_subprogram DW_TAG_formal_parameter and the DW_TAG_inlined_subroutine DW_TAG_formal_parameter set. 2024-01-24ipa: Self-DCE of uses of removed call LHSs (PR 108007)Martin Jambor1-12/+15
PR 108007 is another manifestation where we rely on DCE to clean-up after IPA-SRA and if the user explicitely switches DCE off, IPA-SRA can leave behind statements which are fed uninitialized values and trap, even though their results are themselves never used. I have already fixed this for unused parameters in callees, this bug shows that almost the same thing can happen for removed returns, on the side of callers. This means that the issue has to be fixed elsewhere, in call redirection. This patch adds a function which looks for (and through, using a work-list) uses of operations fed specific SSA names and removes them all. That would have been easy if it wasn't for debug statements during tree-inline (from which call redirection is also invoked). Debug statements are decoupled from the rest at this point and iterating over uses of SSAs does not bring them up. During tree-inline they are handled especially at the end, I assume in order to make sure that relative ordering of UIDs are the same with and without debug info. This means that during tree-inline we need to make a hash of killed SSAs, that we already have in copy_body_data, available to the function making the purging. So the patch duly does also that, making the interface slightly ugly. Moreover, all newly unused SSA names need to be freed and as PR 112616 showed, it must be done in a defined order, which is what newly added ipa_release_ssas_in_hash does. gcc/ChangeLog: 2024-01-12 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> PR ipa/108007 PR ipa/112616 * cgraph.h (cgraph_edge): Add a parameter to redirect_call_stmt_to_callee. * ipa-param-manipulation.h (ipa_param_adjustments): Add a parameter to modify_call. 2023-12-02Allow target attributes in non-gnu namespacesRichard Sandiford1-4/+3
Currently there are four static sources of attributes: - LANG_HOOKS_ATTRIBUTE_TABLE - LANG_HOOKS_COMMON_ATTRIBUTE_TABLE - LANG_HOOKS_FORMAT_ATTRIBUTE_TABLE - TARGET_ATTRIBUTE_TABLE All of the attributes in these tables go in the "gnu" namespace. This means that they can use the traditional GNU __attribute__((...)) syntax and the standard [[gnu::...]] syntax. Standard attributes are registered dynamically with a null namespace. There are no supported attributes in other namespaces (clang, vendor namespaces, etc.). This patch tries to generalise things by making the namespace part of the attribute specification. It's usual for multiple attributes to be defined in the same namespace, so rather than adding the namespace to each individual definition, it seemed better to group attributes in the same namespace together. This would also allow us to reuse the same table for clang attributes that are written with the GNU syntax, or other similar situations where the attribute can be accessed via multiple "spellings". The patch therefore adds a scoped_attribute_specs that contains a namespace and a list of attributes in that namespace. It's still possible to have multiple scoped_attribute_specs for the same namespace. E.g. it makes sense to keep the C++-specific, C/C++-common, and format-related attributes in separate tables, even though they're all GNU attributes. Current lists of attributes are terminated by a null name. Rather than keep that for the new structure, it seemed neater to use an array_slice. This also makes the tables slighly more compact. In general, a target might want to support attributes in multiple namespaces. Rather than have a separate hook for each possibility (like the three langhooks above), it seemed better to make TARGET_ATTRIBUTE_TABLE a table of tables. Specifically, it's an array_slice of scoped_attribute_specs. We can do the same thing for langhooks, which allows the three hooks above to be merged into a single LANG_HOOKS_ATTRIBUTE_TABLE. It also allows the standard attributes to be registered statically and checked by the usual attribs.cc checks. The patch adds a TARGET_GNU_ATTRIBUTES helper for the common case in which a target wants a single table of gnu attributes. It can only be used if the table is free of preprocessor directives. There are probably other things we need to do to make vendor namespaces work smoothly. E.g. in principle it would be good to make exclusion sets namespace-aware. But to some extent we have that with standard vs. gnu attributes too. This patch is just supposed to be a first step. gcc/ * attribs.h (scoped_attribute_specs): New structure. This reverts commit 1be18ea110a2d69570dbc494588a7c73173883be. As reported in PR bootstrap/111688, it broke ppc64le bootstrap because of a debug-compare failure.
2023-10-03ipa: Self-DCE of uses of removed call LHSs (PR 108007)Martin Jambor1-12/+16
So the patch duly does also that, making the interface slightly ugly. gcc/ChangeLog: 2023-09-27 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> PR ipa/108007 * cgraph.h (cgraph_edge): Add a parameter to redirect_call_stmt_to_callee. * ipa-param-manipulation.h (ipa_param_adjustments): Add a parameter to modify_call. * cgraph.cc (cgraph_edge::redirect_call_stmt_to_callee): New parameter killed_ssas, pass it to padjs->modify_call. * ipa-param-manipulation.cc (purge_transitive_uses): New function. 2023-08-25OpenMP: Add OMP_STRUCTURED_BLOCK and GIMPLE_OMP_STRUCTURED_BLOCK.Sandra Loosemore1-0/+6
In order to detect invalid jumps in and out of intervening code in imperfectly-nested loops, the front ends need to insert some sort of marker to identify the structured block sequences that they push into the inner body of the loop. The error checking happens in the diagnose_omp_blocks pass, between gimplification and OMP lowering, so we need both GENERIC and GIMPLE representations of these markers. They are removed in OMP lowering so no subsequent passes need to know about them. 2023-08-24Check that passes do not forget to define profileJan Hubicka1-0/+2
This patch extends verifier to check that all probabilities and counts are initialized if profile is supposed to be present. This is a bit complicated by the posibility that we inline !flag_guess_branch_probability function into function with profile defined and in this case we need to stop verification. For this reason I added flag to cfg structure tracking this. 2023-07-14Turn TODO_rebuild_frequencies to a passJan Hubicka1-3/+1
Currently we rebiuild profile_counts from profile_probability after inlining, because there is a chance that producing large loop nests may get unrealistically large profile_count values. This is much less of concern when we switched to new profile_count representation while back. This propagation can also compensate for profile inconsistencies caused by optimization passes. Since inliner is followed by basic cleanup passes that does not use profile, we get more realistic profile by delaying the recomputation after basic optimizations exposed by inlininig are finished. This does not fit into TODO machinery, so I turn rebuilding into stand alone pass and schedule it before first consumer of profile in the optimization queue. I also added logic that avoids repropagating when CFG is good and not too close to overflow. Propagating visits very basic block loop_depth times, so it is not linear and avoiding it may help a bit. On tramp3d we get 14 functions repropagated and 916 are OK. The repropagated functions are RB tree ones where we produce crazy loop nests by recurisve inlining. This is something to fix independently. gcc/ChangeLog: * passes.cc (execute_function_todo): Remove TODO_rebuild_frequencies * passes.def: Add rebuild_frequencies pass. * predict.cc (estimate_bb_frequencies): Drop force parameter. 2023-03-17tree-inline: Fix up multiversioning with vector arguments [PR105554]Jakub Jelinek1-8/+3
The following testcase ICEs, because we call tree_function_versioning from old_decl which has target attributes not supporting V4DImode and so DECL_MODE of DECL_ARGUMENTS is BLKmode, while new_decl supports those. tree_function_versioning initially copies DECL_RESULT and DECL_ARGUMENTS from old_decl to new_decl, then calls initialize_cfun to create cfun and only when the cfun is created it can later actually remap_decl DECL_RESULT and DECL_ARGUMENTS etc. The problem is that initialize_cfun -> push_struct_function -> allocate_struct_function calls relayout_decl on DECL_RESULT and DECL_ARGUMENTS, which clobbers DECL_MODE of old_decl and we then ICE because of it. In particular, allocate_struct_function does: if (!abstract_p) { /* Now that we have activated any function-specific attributes that might affect layout, particularly vector modes, relayout each of the parameters and the result. */ relayout_decl (result); for (tree parm = DECL_ARGUMENTS (fndecl); parm; parm = DECL_CHAIN (parm)) relayout_decl (parm); /* Similarly relayout the function decl. */ targetm.target_option.relayout_function (fndecl); } if (!abstract_p && aggregate_value_p (result, fndecl)) { #ifdef PCC_STATIC_STRUCT_RETURN cfun->returns_pcc_struct = 1; #endif cfun->returns_struct = 1; } Now, in the case of tree_function_versioning, I believe all that we need from these is possibly the targetm.target_option.relayout_function (fndecl); call (arm only), we will remap DECL_RESULT and DECL_ARGUMENTS later on and copy_decl_for_dup_finish in that case will handle all we need: /* For vector typed decls make sure to update DECL_MODE according to the new function context. */ if (VECTOR_TYPE_P (TREE_TYPE (copy))) SET_DECL_MODE (copy, TYPE_MODE (TREE_TYPE (copy))); We don't need the cfun->returns_*struct either, because we override it in initialize_cfun a few lines later: /* Copy items we preserve during cloning. */ ... cfun->returns_struct = src_cfun->returns_struct; cfun->returns_pcc_struct = src_cfun->returns_pcc_struct; So, to avoid the clobbering of DECL_RESULT/DECL_ARGUMENTS of old_decl, the following patch arranges allocate_struct_function to be called with abstract_p true and calls targetm.target_option.relayout_function (fndecl); by hand. The removal of DECL_RESULT/DECL_ARGUMENTS copying at the start of initialize_cfun is removed because the only caller - tree_function_versioning, does that unconditionally before. 2023-03-17 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR target/105554 * function.h (push_struct_function): Add ABSTRACT_P argument defaulted to false. * function.cc (push_struct_function): Add ABSTRACT_P argument, pass it to allocate_struct_function instead of false. * tree-inline.cc (initialize_cfun): Don't copy DECL_ARGUMENTS nor DECL_RESULT here. That has some non-trivial cost through mostly_copy_tree_r and copy_tree_r but more importantly it doesn't seem to be necessary. 2022-12-16middle-end/108086 - remove PR28238 fix superseeded by PR34018 fixRichard Biener1-15/+0
There's quite special code in copy_bb that handles inline substitution of a non-invariant address in place of an invariant one that's now handled by more generic handling of this case in remap_gimple_op_r so this removes the special casing that happens in a hot path, providing a small speedup. PR middle-end/108086 * tree-inline.cc (copy_bb): Remove handling of (foo *)&this->m substitution which is done in remap_gimple_op_r via re-gimplifying.
2022-12-16middle-end/108086 - more operand scanner reduction in inliningRichard Biener1-8/+8
There's another round of redundant operand scanning in remap_gimple_stmt. The following removes this and also improves one special-case to call a cheaper inline function. PR middle-end/108086 * tree-inline.cc (remap_gimple_stmt): Add stmts to the sequence without updating them. Simplify x == x detection.
2022-12-15middle-end/108086 - avoid quadraticness in copy_edges_for_bbRichard Biener1-16/+18
For the testcase in PR108086 it's visible that we split blocks multiple times when inlining and that causes us to adjust the block tail stmt BBs multiple times, once for each split. The fix is to walk backwards and split from the tail instead. For a reduced testcase this improves compile-time at -O by 4%. PR middle-end/108086 * tree-inline.cc (copy_edges_for_bb): Walk stmts backwards for splitting the block to avoid quadratic behavior with setting stmts BB on multliple splits.
2022-12-15middle-end/108086 - reduce operand scanner use from inlinerRichard Biener1-5/+1
The following avoids a redundant second operand scan on all stmts during inlining which shows with PR108086. PR middle-end/108086 * tree-inline.cc (copy_edges_for_bb): Do not update all stmts again.
2022-12-14ipa: Better way of applying both IPA-CP and IPA-SRA (PR 103227)Martin Jambor1-0/+2
This is basically a better fix for PR 103227. The one currently in use, rushed in late at stage3, which means that IPA-CP transformation simply does a replacement of default-definition of IPA-SRA-created scalar parameters with a constant, meant that IPA-SRA actually often led to creation of a bunch of unused parameters, which was rather ironic and sub-optimal. This patch rips that old way out and makes sure the clash is resolved at clone-materialization time. What happens is that: 1) IPA-SRA IPA analysis (decision) stage recognizes the clash and does not create a param adjustment entry for such a scalar component. 2) Clone materialization code checks the IPA-CP transformation summary and when it realizes that it is removing a parameter that is a base for a discovered IPA-CP aggregate constant, and: a) the value is passed by reference, it internally records that any load of the value is replaced directly with the known constant value. IPA-SRA will not attempt to split values passed by reference when there is a write to it so we know such a load won't be on a a LHS. b) the value is passed by value, there can be stores to the corresponding bit of the aggregate and so all accesses are replaced with a new decl and an assignment of the constant to this decl is generated at the beginning of the function. The new testcase contains an xfail as the patch does not fix PR 107640 but it is one that ICEs when one is not careful about remapping indices of parameters, so I'd like to have it in testsuite/gcc.gd/ipa/ even now. I don't think that PR 107640 should be attempted through ipa-param-manipulation replacements because the information is not really there any more and we'd either need to do the replacements earlier or dig deep into the clone parent info. Instead, we should record somewhere that at the beginning of the function the bits of the global decl have known values and use that in the value numbering. That way we could one day encode also known constants in globals that do not come through parameters. gcc/ChangeLog: 2022-11-11 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> PR ipa/103227 * ipa-param-manipulation.h (class ipa_param_adjustments): Removed member function get_updated_index_or_split. 2022-10-18middle-end IFN_ASSUME support [PR106654]Jakub Jelinek1-0/+5
My earlier patches gimplify the simplest non-side-effects assumptions into if (cond) ; else __builtin_unreachable (); and throw the rest on the floor. The following patch attempts to do something with the rest too. For -O0, it throws the more complex assumptions on the floor, we don't expect optimizations and the assumptions are there to allow optimizations. Otherwise arranges for the assumptions to be visible in the IL as .ASSUME (_Z2f4i._assume.0, i_1(D)); call where there is an artificial function like: bool _Z2f4i._assume.0 (int i) { bool _2; <bb 2> [local count: 1073741824]: _2 = i_1(D) == 43; return _2; } with the semantics that there is UB unless the assumption function would return true. Aldy, could ranger handle this? If it sees .ASSUME call, walk the body of such function from the edge(s) to exit with the assumption that the function returns true, so above set _2 [true, true] and from there derive that i_1(D) [43, 43] and then map the argument in the assumption function to argument passed to IFN_ASSUME (note, args there are shifted by 1)? During gimplification it actually gimplifies it into [[assume (D.2591)]] { { i = i + 1; D.2591 = i == 44; } } which is a new GIMPLE_ASSUME statement wrapping a GIMPLE_BIND and specifying a boolean_type_node variable which contains the result. The GIMPLE_ASSUME then survives just a couple of passes and is lowered during gimple lowering into an outlined separate function and IFN_ASSUME call. Variables declared inside of the condition (both static and automatic) just change context, automatic variables from the caller are turned into parameters (note, as the code is never executed, I handle this way even non-POD types, we don't need to bother pretending there would be user copy constructors etc. involved). The assume_function artificial functions are then optimized until the new assumptions pass which doesn't do much right now but I'd like to see there the backwards ranger walk and filling up of SSA_NAME_RANGE_INFO for the parameters. There are a few further changes I'd like to do, like ignoring the .ASSUME calls in inlining size estimations (but haven't figured out where it is done), or for LTO arrange for the assume functions to be emitted in all partitions that reference those (usually there will be just one, unless code with the assumption got inlined, versioned etc.). 2022-10-18 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR c++/106654 gcc/ * gimple.def (GIMPLE_ASSUME): New statement kind. * gimple.h (struct gimple_statement_assume): New type. 2022-05-13Make gimple_build main workers more flexibleRichard Biener1-1/+1
The following makes the main gimple_build API take a gimple_stmt_iterator, whether to insert before or after and an iterator update argument to make it more convenient to use in certain situations (see the tree-vect-generic.cc hunks for an example). It also makes the case we insert into the IL somewhat distinct from inserting into a standalone sequence in that it simplifies built expressions the same way as inserting and calling fold_stmt (..., follow_all_ssa_edges) would. When inserting into a standalone sequence we restrict simplification to defs within the currently building sequence. The patch only amends the tree_code gimple_build API, I will followup with converting the rest as well. The patch got larger than intended because the template forwarders now use gsi_last which introduces a dependency on gimple-iterator.h requiring mass #include re-org across the tree. There are two frontend specific files including gimple-fold.h just for some padding clearing stuff - I've removed the include and instead moved the declarations to fold-const.h (but not the implementations). Otherwise I'd have to include half of the middle-end headers in those files which I didn't much like. 2022-05-12 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> gcc/cp/ * constexpr.cc: Remove gimple-fold.h include. gcc/c-family/ * c-omp.cc: Remove gimple-fold.h include. gcc/analyzer/ * supergraph.cc: Re-order gimple-fold.h include. gcc/ * gimple-fold.cc (gimple_build): Adjust for new main API. * gimple-fold.h (gimple_build): New main APIs with iterator, insert direction and iterator update. 2022-04-29Prefer global range info setters that take a range.Aldy Hernandez1-4/+2
This patch consolidates the multiple ways we have of storing global ranges into one accepting a range. In an upcoming patch series later this cycle we will be providing a way to store iranges globally, as opposed to the mechanism we have now which squishes wider ranges into value_range's. This is preparation for such work.
