2013-09-08Fix handling of very long asm statements in inlinerAndi Kleen1-1/+8
An auto generated program with a 6.4mio line asm statement gave with 4.7 and 4.8: xxx.c:6400017:1: internal compiler error: in account_size_time, at ipa-inline-analysis.c:601 The problem is that the inliner counts the number of lines in the asm statement and multiplies that with a weight. With the weight this overflows 32bit signed int, and triggers an assert for negative time. Fix this by limiting the number of lines to 1000 for asm cost estimation. The RTL backend also does similar multiplications for jump shortening. I haven't tried to address this, but presumably it's less likely to result in a failure. gcc/: 2013-09-08 Andi Kleen <ak@linux.intel.com> * tree-inline.c (estimate_num_insns): Limit asm cost to 1000. In addition to bootstrap and profiledbootstrap builds and tests (with and without LTO), I built and tested performance of the SPEC cpu2006 benchmarks with FDO on a Nehalem system. 2013-04-29This patch fixes PR bootstrap/57077.Teresa Johnson1-3/+3
This patch fixes PR bootstrap/57077. Certain new uses of apply_probability are actually scaling the counts up, and the scale factor should not be treated as a probability as the value may exceed REG_BR_PROB_BASE. One example (from the PR) is when scaling counts up in LTO when merging profiles. Another example I found when preparing the patch to use the rounding divide in more places is when inlining COMDAT functions. Add new helper function apply_scale that does the scaling without the probability range check. I audited the new uses of apply_probability and changed the calls as appropriate. 2013-04-29 Teresa Johnson <tejohnson@google.com> PR bootstrap/57077 * basic-block.h (apply_scale): New function. factors/probabilities and the actual scaling to use rounding divides... First phase of unifying the computation of profile scale factors/probabilities and the actual scaling to use rounding divides: - Add new macro GCOV_COMPUTE_SCALE to basic-block.h to compute the scale factor/probability via a rounding divide. - Change all locations that already perform rounding divides (inline or via RDIV) to use the appropriate helper: GCOV_COMPUTE_SCALE, apply_probability or combine_probabilities. - Change ipa-cp.c truncating divides to use rounding divides. - Add comments to all other locations (currently using truncating divides) to switch them to one of the helpers so they use a rounding divide. Next phase will be to replace the locations using truncating divides, marked with a comment here, into rounding divides via the helper methods. 2013-04-08 Teresa Johnson <tejohnson@google.com> * basic-block.h (GCOV_COMPUTE_SCALE): Define. * ipa-inline-analysis.c (param_change_prob): Use helper rounding divide methods. 2012-11-17This patch rewrites the old VEC macro-based interface into a new one based ↵Diego Novillo1-51/+50
on the template class 'vec'. This patch rewrites the old VEC macro-based interface into a new one based on the template class 'vec'. The user-visible changes are described in http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/cxx-conversion/cxx-vec. I have tested the patch pretty extensively: - Regular bootstraps on x86_64, ppc, ia64, sparc and hppa. - Bootstraps with --enable-checking=release - Bootstraps with --enable-checking=gc,gcac - Basic builds on all targets (using contrib/config-list.mk). We no longer access the vectors via VEC_* macros. The pattern is "VEC_operation (T, A, V, args)" becomes "V.operation (args)". The only thing I could not do is create proper ctors and dtors for the vec class. Since these vectors are stored in unions, we have to keep them as PODs (C++03 does not allow non-PODs in unions). This means that creation and destruction must be explicit. There is a new method vec<type, allocation, layout>::create() and another vec<type, allocation, layout>::destroy() to allocate the internal vector. For vectors that must be pointers, there is a family of free functions that implement the operations that need to tolerate NULL vectors. These functions all start with the prefix 'vec_safe_'. See the wiki page for details. The gengtype change removes the special handling for VEC() that used to exist in gengtype. Additionally, it allows gengtype to recognize templates of more than one argument and introduces the concept of an undefined type (useful for template arguments that may or may not be types). When a TYPE_UNDEFINED is reached, gengtype will ignore it if it happens inside a type marked with GTY((user)). Otherwise, it will emit an error. Finally, gengtype rejects root types marked GTY((user)) that are not first class pointers. 2012-11-16 Diego Novillo <dnovillo@google.com> VEC API overhaul (http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/cxx-conversion/cxx-vec) * vec.c (register_overhead): Convert it into member function of vec_prefix.
