2019-11-16Optionally pick the cheapest loop_vec_infoRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
This patch adds a mode in which the vectoriser tries each available base vector mode and picks the one with the lowest cost. The new behaviour is selected by autovectorize_vector_modes. The patch keeps the current behaviour of preferring a VF of loop->simdlen over any larger or smaller VF, regardless of costs or target preferences. 2019-11-16 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.h (VECT_COMPARE_COSTS): New constant. * target.def (autovectorize_vector_modes): Return a bitmask of flags. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_autovectorize_vector_modes): Update accordingly. * targhooks.c (default_autovectorize_vector_modes): Likewise. * config/aarch64/aarch64.c (aarch64_autovectorize_vector_modes): Likewise. * config/arc/arc.c (arc_autovectorize_vector_modes): Likewise. * config/arm/arm.c (arm_autovectorize_vector_modes): Likewise. * config/i386/i386.c (ix86_autovectorize_vector_modes): Likewise. * config/mips/mips.c (mips_autovectorize_vector_modes): Likewise. * tree-vectorizer.h (_loop_vec_info::vec_outside_cost) (_loop_vec_info::vec_inside_cost): New member variables. * tree-vect-loop.c (_loop_vec_info::_loop_vec_info): Initialize them. 2019-11-14Replace autovectorize_vector_sizes with autovectorize_vector_modesRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
This is another patch in the series to remove the assumption that all modes involved in vectorisation have to be the same size. Rather than have the target provide a list of vector sizes, it makes the target provide a list of vector "approaches", with each approach represented by a mode. A later patch will pass this mode to targetm.vectorize.related_mode to get the vector mode for a given element mode. Until then, the modes simply act as an alternative way of specifying the vector size. 2019-11-14 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.h (vector_sizes, auto_vector_sizes): Delete. 2019-11-14Pass the data vector mode to get_mask_modeRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
This patch passes the data vector mode to get_mask_mode, rather than its size and nunits. 2019-11-14Add a targetm.vectorize.related_mode hookRichard Sandiford1-0/+3
This patch is the first of a series that tries to remove two assumptions: (1) that all vectors involved in vectorisation must be the same size (2) that there is only one vector mode for a given element mode and number of elements Relaxing (1) helps with targets that support multiple vector sizes or that require the number of elements to stay the same. E.g. if we're vectorising code that operates on narrow and wide elements, and the narrow elements use 64-bit vectors, then on AArch64 it would normally be better to use 128-bit vectors rather than pairs of 64-bit vectors for the wide elements. Relaxing (2) makes it possible for -msve-vector-bits=128 to produce fixed-length code for SVE. It also allows unpacked/half-size SVE vectors to work with -msve-vector-bits=256. The patch adds a new hook that targets can use to control how we move from one vector mode to another. The hook takes a starting vector mode, a new element mode, and (optionally) a new number of elements. The flexibility needed for (1) comes in when the number of elements isn't specified. All callers in this patch specify the number of elements, but a later vectoriser patch doesn't. 2019-11-14 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (related_mode): New hook. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_VECTORIZE_RELATED_MODE): New hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_vectorize_related_mode): Declare. * targhooks.c (default_vectorize_related_mode): New function. * machmode.h (related_vector_mode): Declare. * stor-layout.c (related_vector_mode): New function. * expmed.c (extract_bit_field_1): Use it instead of mode_for_vector. * optabs-query.c (qimode_for_vec_perm): Likewise. * tree-vect-stmts.c (get_group_load_store_type): Likewise. 2019-09-30Add a function for getting the ABI of a call insn targetRichard Sandiford1-2/+0
This patch replaces get_call_reg_set_usage with insn_callee_abi, which returns the ABI of the target of a call insn. The ABI's full_reg_clobbers corresponds to regs_invalidated_by_call, whereas many callers instead passed call_used_or_fixed_regs, i.e.: (regs_invalidated_by_call | fixed_reg_set) The patch slavishly preserves the "| fixed_reg_set" for these callers; later patches will clean this up. 2019-09-30 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (insn_callee_abi): New hook. bt-load.c has AFAIK been dead code since the removal of the SH5 port in 2016. 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG_ADVANCERichard Sandiford1-1/+1
There seems to be a bit of confusion around this one. Almost all callers pass the same arguments as TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG, meaning that the mode is the promoted mode rather than the type mode. But the calls.c handling for normal typed arguments instead passes the unpromoted TYPE_MODE (despite passing the promoted mode to TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG). I've kept this behaviour with a ??? comment. (The calls.c handling of libgcc functions does pass the promoted mode though, as does the function.c handling of incoming arguments.) Also, a couple of the arm callers don't seem to be using the hook correctly. Again I kept the current choices and added a ??? comment. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * targhooks.c (default_function_arg_advance): Likewise. * calls.c (initialize_argument_information): Update call to targetm.calls.function_arg_advance. 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTESRichard Sandiford1-2/+2
This patch adds the function_arg_info class and uses it for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTES. The hook is passed the promoted mode instead of the original type mode. The arguments aren't mentioned in the documentation, which is why the target.def change is so small. The patch changes "true" to "arg.named" in: gcc_assert (!epiphany_pass_by_reference (cum, mode, type, /* named */ true)); but epiphany_pass_by_reference doesn't care about the named flag. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (arg_partial_bytes): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * target.h (function_arg_info): Declare. * calls.h (function_arg_info): New class. * targhooks.h (hook_int_CUMULATIVE_ARGS_mode_tree_bool_0): Delete. 2018-10-01Add a hook to support telling the mid-end when to probe the stack.Tamar Christina1-1/+1
This patch adds a hook to tell the mid-end about the probing requirements of the target. On AArch64 we allow a specific range for which no probing needs to be done. This same range is also the amount that will have to be probed up when a probe is needed after dropping the stack. Defining this probe comes with the extra requirement that the outgoing arguments size of any function that uses alloca and stack clash be at the very least 8 bytes. With this invariant we can skip doing the zero checks for alloca and save some code. A simplified version of the AArch64 stack frame is: +-----------------------+ | | | | | | +-----------------------+ |LR | +-----------------------+ |FP | +-----------------------+ |dynamic allocations | -\ probe range hook effects these +-----------------------+ --\ and ensures that outgoing stack |padding | -- args is always > 8 when alloca. +-----------------------+ ---/ Which means it's always safe to probe |outgoing stack args |-/ at SP +-----------------------+ This allows us to generate better code than without the hook without affecting other targets. With this patch I am also removing the stack_clash_protection_final_dynamic_probe hook which was added specifically for AArch64 but that is no longer needed. gcc/ PR target/86486 * explow.c (anti_adjust_stack_and_probe_stack_clash): Support custom probe ranges. * target.def (stack_clash_protection_alloca_probe_range): New. 2018-07-31Add __builtin_speculation_safe_valueRichard Earnshaw1-0/+3
This patch defines a new intrinsic function __builtin_speculation_safe_value. A generic default implementation is defined which will attempt to use the backend pattern "speculation_safe_barrier". If this pattern is not defined, or if it is not available, then the compiler will emit a warning, but compilation will continue. Note that the test spec-barrier-1.c will currently fail on all targets. 2018-07-12Extend tree code folds to IFN_COND_*Richard Sandiford1-0/+1
This patch adds match.pd support for applying normal folds to their IFN_COND_* forms. E.g. the rule: (plus @0 (negate @1)) -> (minus @0 @1) also allows the fold: (IFN_COND_ADD @0 @1 (negate @2) @3) -> (IFN_COND_SUB @0 @1 @2 @3) Actually doing this by direct matches in gimple-match.c would probably lead to combinatorial explosion, so instead, the patch makes gimple_match_op carry a condition under which the operation happens ("cond"), and the value to use when the condition is false ("else_value"). Thus in the example above we'd do the following (a) convert: cond:NULL_TREE (IFN_COND_ADD @0 @1 @4 @3) else_value:NULL_TREE to: cond:@0 (plus @1 @4) else_value:@3 (b) apply gimple_resimplify to (plus @1 @4) (c) reintroduce cond and else_value when constructing the result. Nested operations inherit the condition of the outer operation (so that we don't introduce extra faults) but have a null else_value. If we try to build such an operation, the target gets to choose what else_value it can handle efficiently: obvious choices include one of the operands or a zero constant. (The alternative would be to have some representation for an undefined value, but that seems a bit invasive, and isn't likely to be useful here.) I've made the condition a mandatory part of the gimple_match_op constructor so that it doesn't accidentally get dropped. 2018-07-12 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * target.def (preferred_else_value): New target hook. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_PREFERRED_ELSE_VALUE): New hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_preferred_else_value): Declare. * targhooks.c (default_preferred_else_value): New function. * internal-fn.h (conditional_internal_fn_code): Declare. * internal-fn.c (FOR_EACH_CODE_MAPPING): New macro. 2018-01-13Rework the legitimize_address_displacement hookRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
This patch: - tweaks the handling of legitimize_address_displacement so that it gets called before rather than after the address has been expanded. This means that we're no longer at the mercy of LRA being able to interpret the expanded instructions. - passes the original offset to legitimize_address_displacement. - adds SVE support to the AArch64 implementation of legitimize_address_displacement. 2018-01-13 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (legitimize_address_displacement): Take the original offset as a poly_int. * targhooks.h (default_legitimize_address_displacement): Update accordingly. * targhooks.c (default_legitimize_address_displacement): Likewise. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * lra-constraints.c (base_plus_disp_to_reg): Take the displacement as an argument, moving assert of ad->disp == ad->disp_term to... 2018-01-13Add an "early rematerialisation" passRichard Sandiford1-0/+1
This patch looks for pseudo registers that are live across a call and for which no call-preserved hard registers exist. It then recomputes the pseudos as necessary to ensure that they are no longer live across a call. The comment at the head of the file describes the approach. A new target hook selects which modes should be treated in this way. By default none are, in which case the pass is skipped very early. It might also be worth looking for cases like: C1: R1 := f (...) ... C2: R2 := f (...) C3: R1 := C2 and giving the same value number to C1 and C3, effectively treating it like: C1: R1 := f (...) ... C2: R2 := f (...) C3: R1 := f (...) Another (much more expensive) enhancement would be to apply value numbering to all pseudo registers (not just rematerialisation candidates), so that we can handle things like: C1: R1 := f (...R2...) ... C2: R1 := f (...R3...) where R2 and R3 hold the same value. But the current pass seems to catch the vast majority of cases. 2018-01-13 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * Makefile.in (OBJS): Add early-remat.o. * target.def (select_early_remat_modes): New hook. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_SELECT_EARLY_REMAT_MODES): New hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_select_early_remat_modes): Declare. * targhooks.c (default_select_early_remat_modes): New function. * timevar.def (TV_EARLY_REMAT): New timevar. * passes.def (pass_early_remat): New pass. * tree-pass.h (make_pass_early_remat): Declare. * early-remat.c: New file. * config/aarch64/aarch64.c (aarch64_select_early_remat_modes): New function. This includes: - incoming_args::pops_args and incoming_args::size - rtl_data::outgoing_args_size - pending_stack_adjust - stack_pointer_delta - stack_usage::pushed_stack_size - args_size::constant It also changes TARGET_RETURN_POPS_ARGS so that the size of the arguments passed in and the size returned by the hook are both poly_int64s. 2017-12-21 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (return_pops_args): Treat both the input and output sizes as poly_int64s rather than HOST_WIDE_INTS. * targhooks.h (default_return_pops_args): Update accordingly. * targhooks.c (default_return_pops_args): Likewise. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * emit-rtl.h (incoming_args): Change pops_args, size and outgoing_args_size from int to poly_int64_pod. * function.h (expr_status): Change x_pending_stack_adjust and x_stack_pointer_delta from int to poly_int64. 2017-12-20poly_int: DWARF locationsRichard Sandiford1-0/+3
This patch adds support for DWARF location expressions that involve polynomial offsets. It adds a target hook that says how the runtime invariants used in the offsets should be represented in DWARF. SVE vectors have to be a multiple of 128 bits in size, so the GCC port uses the number of 128-bit blocks minus one as the runtime invariant. However, in DWARF, the vector length is exposed via a pseudo "VG" register that holds the number of 64-bit elements in a vector. Thus: indeterminate 1 == (VG / 2) - 1 The hook needs to be general enough to express this. Note that in most cases the division and subtraction fold away into surrounding expressions. 2017-12-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (dwarf_poly_indeterminate_value): New hook. * targhooks.h (default_dwarf_poly_indeterminate_value): Declare. * targhooks.c (default_dwarf_poly_indeterminate_value): New function. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_DWARF_POLY_INDETERMINATE_VALUE): Document. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * dwarf2out.h (build_cfa_loc, build_cfa_aligned_loc): Take the offset as a poly_int64. * dwarf2out.c (new_reg_loc_descr): Move later in file. 2017-12-14poly_int: add poly-int.hRichard Sandiford1-0/+1
This patch adds a new "poly_int" class to represent polynomial integers of the form: C0 + C1*X1 + C2*X2 ... + Cn*Xn It also adds poly_int-based typedefs for offsets and sizes of various precisions. In these typedefs, the Ci coefficients are compile-time constants and the Xi indeterminates are run-time invariants. The number of coefficients is controlled by the target and is initially 1 for all ports. Most routines can handle general coefficient counts, but for now a few are specific to one or two coefficients. Support for other coefficient counts can be added when needed. The patch also adds a new macro, IN_TARGET_CODE, that can be set to indicate that a TU contains target-specific rather than target-independent code. When this macro is set and the number of coefficients is 1, the poly-int.h classes define a conversion operator to a constant. This allows most existing target code to work without modification. The main exceptions are: - values passed through ..., which need an explicit conversion to a constant - ?: expression in which one arm ends up being a polynomial and the other remains a constant. In these cases it would be valid to convert the constant to a polynomial and the polynomial to a constant, so a cast is needed to break the ambiguity. The patch also adds a new target hook to return the estimated value of a polynomial for costing purposes. The patch also adds operator<< on wide_ints (it was already defined for offset_int and widest_int). I think this was originally excluded because >> is ambiguous for wide_int, but << is useful for converting bytes to bits, etc., so is worth defining on its own. The patch also adds operator% and operator/ for offset_int and widest_int, since those types are always signed. These changes allow the poly_int interface to be more predictable. I'd originally tried adding the tests as selftests, but that ended up bloating cc1 by at least a third. It also took a while to build them at -O2. The patch therefore uses plugin tests instead, where we can force the tests to be built at -O0. They still run in negligible time when built that way. 2017-12-14 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * poly-int.h: New file. * poly-int-types.h: Likewise. * coretypes.h: Include them. 2017-11-01Add a fixed_size_mode classRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
This patch adds a fixed_size_mode machine_mode wrapper for modes that are known to have a fixed size. That applies to all current modes, but future patches will add support for variable-sized modes. The use of this class should be pretty restricted. One important use case is to hold the mode of static data, which can never be variable-sized with current file formats. Another is to hold the modes of registers involved in __builtin_apply and __builtin_result, since those interfaces don't cope well with variable-sized data. The class can also be useful when reinterpreting the contents of a fixed-length bit string as a different kind of value. 2017-11-01 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * machmode.h (fixed_size_mode): New class. * rtl.h (get_pool_mode): Return fixed_size_mode. * gengtype.c (main): Add fixed_size_mode. * target.def (get_raw_result_mode): Return a fixed_size_mode. 2017-09-25Turn CONSTANT_ALIGNMENT into a hookRichard Sandiford1-0/+3
The definition: #define CONSTANT_ALIGNMENT(EXP, ALIGN) \ (TREE_CODE (EXP) == STRING_CST \ && (ALIGN) < BITS_PER_WORD ? BITS_PER_WORD : (ALIGN)) was very common, so the patch adds a canned definition for that, called constant_alignment_word_strings. Some ports had a variation that used a port-local FASTEST_ALIGNMENT instead of BITS_PER_WORD; the patch uses constant_alignment_word_strings if FASTEST_ALIGNMENT was always BITS_PER_WORD and a port-local hook function otherwise. 2017-09-25 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * target.def (constant_alignment): New hook. * defaults.h (CONSTANT_ALIGNMENT): Delete. * doc/tm.texi.in (CONSTANT_ALIGNMENT): Replace with... 2017-09-22Let the target choose a vectorisation alignmentRichard Sandiford1-0/+1
The vectoriser aligned vectors to TYPE_ALIGN unconditionally, although there was also a hard-coded assumption that this was equal to the type size. This was inconvenient for SVE for two reasons: - When compiling for a specific power-of-2 SVE vector length, we might want to align to a full vector. However, the TYPE_ALIGN is governed by the ABI alignment, which is 128 bits regardless of size. - For vector-length-agnostic code it doesn't usually make sense to align, since the runtime vector length might not be a power of two. Even for power of two sizes, there's no guarantee that aligning to the previous 16 bytes will be an improveent. This patch therefore adds a target hook to control the preferred vectoriser (as opposed to ABI) alignment. 2017-09-22 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (preferred_vector_alignment): New hook. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_VECTORIZE_PREFERRED_VECTOR_ALIGNMENT): New hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_preferred_vector_alignment): Declare. * targhooks.c (default_preferred_vector_alignment): New function. * tree-vectorizer.h (dataref_aux): Add a target_alignment field. 2017-09-13Turn SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED_MODE into a target hookRichard Sandiford1-0/+1
This includes a change to LRA. Previously the code was: if (sclass == NO_REGS && dclass == NO_REGS) return false; #ifdef SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED if (SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED (sclass, dclass, GET_MODE (src)) #ifdef SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED_MODE && ((sclass != NO_REGS && dclass != NO_REGS) || GET_MODE (src) != SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED_MODE (GET_MODE (src))) #endif ) { *sec_mem_p = true; return false; } #endif in which the positioning of the second ifdef meant that defining SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED_MODE to its default value was not a no-op: without a definition, we would consider using secondary reloads for mem<-reg and reg<-mem reloads even if the secondary memory has the same mode as the original mem, while defining it would avoid this. The latter behaviour seems correct. The default is different for reload and LRA. For LRA the default is to use the original mode, while reload promotes smaller-than-word integral modes to word mode: if (GET_MODE_BITSIZE (mode) < BITS_PER_WORD && INTEGRAL_MODE_P (mode)) mode = mode_for_size (BITS_PER_WORD, GET_MODE_CLASS (mode), 0).require (); Some of the ports that have switched to LRA seemed to have SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED_MDOEs based on the old reload definition, and still referred to the reload.c:get_secondary_mem function in the comments. The patch just keeps them as-is. 2017-09-13 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (secondary_memory_needed_mode): New hook: * targhooks.c (default_secondary_memory_needed_mode): Declare. * targhooks.h (default_secondary_memory_needed_mode): New function. * doc/tm.texi.in (SECONDARY_MEMORY_NEEDED_MODE): Replace with...
