2020-05-05add vec_info * parameters where neededRichard Biener1-1/+1
Soonish we'll get SLP nodes which have no corresponding scalar stmt and thus not stmt_vec_info and thus no way to get back to the associated vec_info. This patch makes the vec_info available as part of the APIs instead of putting in that back-pointer into the leaf data structures. 2020-05-05 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> * tree-vectorizer.h (_stmt_vec_info::vinfo): Remove. 2020-03-17Fix up duplicated duplicated words mostly in commentsJakub Jelinek1-3/+3
In the r10-7197-gbae7b38cf8a21e068ad5c0bab089dedb78af3346 commit I've noticed duplicated word in a message, which lead me to grep for those and we have a tons of them. I've used grep -v 'long long\|optab optab\|template template\|double double' *.[chS] */*.[chS] *.def config/*/* 2>/dev/null | grep ' \([a-zA-Z]\+\) \1 ' Note, the command will not detect the doubled words at the start or end of line or when one of the words is at the end of line and the next one at the start of another one. Some of it is fairly obvious, e.g. all the "the the" cases which is something I've posted and committed patch for already e.g. in 2016, other cases are often valid, e.g. "that that" seems to look mostly ok to me. Some cases are quite hard to figure out, I've left out some of them from the patch (e.g. "and and" in some cases isn't talking about bitwise/logical and and so looks incorrect, but in other cases it is talking about those operations). In most cases the right solution seems to be to remove one of the duplicated words, but not always. I think most important are the ones with user visible messages (in the patch 3 of the first 4 hunks), the rest is just comments (and internal documentation; for that see the doc/tm.texi changes). 2020-03-17 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * lra-spills.c (remove_pseudos): Fix up duplicated word issue in a dump message. * tree-sra.c (create_access_replacement): Fix up duplicated word issue in a comment. * read-rtl-function.c (find_param_by_name, function_reader::parse_enum_value, function_reader::get_insn_by_uid): Likewise. * spellcheck.c (get_edit_distance_cutoff): Likewise. * tree-data-ref.c (create_ifn_alias_checks): Likewise. * tree.def (SWITCH_EXPR): Likewise. * selftest.c (assert_str_contains): Likewise. * ipa-param-manipulation.h (class ipa_param_body_adjustments): Likewise. * tree-ssa-math-opts.c (convert_expand_mult_copysign): Likewise. * tree-ssa-loop-split.c (find_vdef_in_loop): Likewise. * langhooks.h (struct lang_hooks_for_decls): Likewise. * ipa-prop.h (struct ipa_param_descriptor): Likewise. * tree-ssa-strlen.c (handle_builtin_string_cmp, handle_store): Likewise. * tree-ssa-dom.c (simplify_stmt_for_jump_threading): Likewise. * tree-ssa-reassoc.c (reassociate_bb): Likewise. * tree.c (component_ref_size): Likewise. * hsa-common.c (hsa_init_compilation_unit_data): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-sprintf.c (get_string_length, format_string, format_directive): Likewise. * omp-grid.c (grid_process_kernel_body_copy): Likewise. * input.c (string_concat_db::get_string_concatenation, test_lexer_string_locations_ucn4): Likewise. * cfgexpand.c (pass_expand::execute): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-warn-restrict.c (builtin_memref::offset_out_of_bounds, maybe_diag_overlap): Likewise. * rtl.c (RTX_CODE_HWINT_P_1): Likewise. * shrink-wrap.c (spread_components): Likewise. * tree-ssa-dse.c (initialize_ao_ref_for_dse, valid_ao_ref_for_dse): Likewise. * tree-call-cdce.c (shrink_wrap_one_built_in_call_with_conds): Likewise. * dwarf2out.c (dwarf2out_early_finish): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-store-merging.c: Likewise. * ira-costs.c (record_operand_costs): Likewise. * tree-vect-loop.c (vectorizable_reduction): Likewise. * target.def (dispatch): Likewise. 2020-01-09Add a compatible_vector_types_p target hookRichard Sandiford1-0/+23
One problem with adding an N-bit vector extension to an existing architecture is to decide how N-bit vectors should be passed to functions and returned from functions. Allowing all N-bit vector types to be passed in registers breaks backwards compatibility, since N-bit vectors could be used (and emulated) before the vector extension was added. But always passing N-bit vectors on the stack would be inefficient for things like vector libm functions. For SVE we took the compromise position of predefining new SVE vector types that are distinct from all existing vector types, including GNU-style vectors. The new types are passed and returned in an efficient way while existing vector types are passed and returned in the traditional way. In the right circumstances, the two types are inter-convertible. The SVE types are created using: vectype = build_distinct_type_copy (vectype); SET_TYPE_STRUCTURAL_EQUALITY (vectype); TYPE_ARTIFICIAL (vectype) = 1; The C frontend maintains this distinction, using VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR to convert from one type to the other. However, the distinction can be lost during gimple, which treats two vector types with the same mode, number of elements, and element type as equivalent. And for most targets that's the right thing to do. This patch therefore adds a hook that lets the target choose whether such vector types are indeed equivalent. Note that the new tests fail for -mabi=ilp32 in the same way as other ACLE-based tests. I'm still planning to fix that as a follow-on. 2020-01-09 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (compatible_vector_types_p): New target hook. * hooks.h (hook_bool_const_tree_const_tree_true): Declare. * hooks.c (hook_bool_const_tree_const_tree_true): New function. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_COMPATIBLE_VECTOR_TYPES_P): New hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * gimple-expr.c: Include target.h. 2019-11-30[C] Add a target hook that allows targets to verify type usageRichard Sandiford1-0/+16
This patch adds a new target hook to check whether there are any target-specific reasons why a type cannot be used in a certain source-language context. It works in a similar way to existing hooks like TARGET_INVALID_CONVERSION and TARGET_INVALID_UNARY_OP. The reason for adding the hook is to report invalid uses of SVE types. Throughout a TU, the SVE vector and predicate types represent values that can be stored in an SVE vector or predicate register. At certain points in the TU we might be able to generate code that assumes the registers have a particular size, but often we can't. In some cases we might even make multiple different assumptions in the same TU (e.g. when implementing an ifunc for multiple vector lengths). But SVE types themselves are the same type throughout. The register size assumptions change how we generate code, but they don't change the definition of the types. This means that the types do not have a fixed size at the C level even when -msve-vector-bits=N is in effect. It also means that the size does not work in the same way as for C VLAs, where the abstract machine evaluates the size at a particular point and then carries that size forward to later code. The SVE ACLE deals with this by making it invalid to use C and C++ constructs that depend on the size or layout of SVE types. The spec refers to the types as "sizeless" types and defines their semantics as edits to the standards. See: https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2018-10/msg00868.html for a fuller description and: https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/2019-11/msg00088.html for a recent update on the status. However, since all current sizeless types are target-specific built-in types, there's no real reason for the frontends to handle them directly. They can just hand off the checks to target code instead. It's then possible for the errors to refer to "SVE types" rather than "sizeless types", which is likely to be more meaningful to users. There is a slight overlap between the new tests and the ones for gnu_vector_type_p in r277950, but here the emphasis is on testing sizelessness. 2019-11-30 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.h (type_context_kind): New enum. 2019-11-14Replace autovectorize_vector_sizes with autovectorize_vector_modesRichard Sandiford1-8/+16
This is another patch in the series to remove the assumption that all modes involved in vectorisation have to be the same size. Rather than have the target provide a list of vector sizes, it makes the target provide a list of vector "approaches", with each approach represented by a mode. A later patch will pass this mode to targetm.vectorize.related_mode to get the vector mode for a given element mode. Until then, the modes simply act as an alternative way of specifying the vector size. 2019-11-14 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.h (vector_sizes, auto_vector_sizes): Delete. 2019-11-14Add a targetm.vectorize.related_mode hookRichard Sandiford1-0/+27
This patch is the first of a series that tries to remove two assumptions: (1) that all vectors involved in vectorisation must be the same size (2) that there is only one vector mode for a given element mode and number of elements Relaxing (1) helps with targets that support multiple vector sizes or that require the number of elements to stay the same. E.g. if we're vectorising code that operates on narrow and wide elements, and the narrow elements use 64-bit vectors, then on AArch64 it would normally be better to use 128-bit vectors rather than pairs of 64-bit vectors for the wide elements. Relaxing (2) makes it possible for -msve-vector-bits=128 to produce fixed-length code for SVE. It also allows unpacked/half-size SVE vectors to work with -msve-vector-bits=256. The patch adds a new hook that targets can use to control how we move from one vector mode to another. The hook takes a starting vector mode, a new element mode, and (optionally) a new number of elements. The flexibility needed for (1) comes in when the number of elements isn't specified. All callers in this patch specify the number of elements, but a later vectoriser patch doesn't. 2019-11-14 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (related_mode): New hook. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_VECTORIZE_RELATED_MODE): New hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_vectorize_related_mode): Declare. * targhooks.c (default_vectorize_related_mode): New function. * machmode.h (related_vector_mode): Declare. * stor-layout.c (related_vector_mode): New function. * expmed.c (extract_bit_field_1): Use it instead of mode_for_vector. * optabs-query.c (qimode_for_vec_perm): Likewise. * tree-vect-stmts.c (get_group_load_store_type): Likewise. 2019-09-30Remove global call sets: LRARichard Sandiford1-14/+0
lra_reg has an actual_call_used_reg_set field that is only used during inheritance. This in turn required a special lra_create_live_ranges pass for flag_ipa_ra to set up this field. This patch instead makes the inheritance code do its own live register tracking, using the same ABI-mask-and-clobber-set pair as for IRA. Tracking ABIs simplifies (and cheapens) the logic in lra-lives.c and means we no longer need a separate path for -fipa-ra. It also means we can remove TARGET_RETURN_CALL_WITH_MAX_CLOBBERS. The patch also strengthens the sanity check in lra_assigns so that we check that reg_renumber is consistent with the whole conflict set, not just the call-clobbered registers. 2019-09-30 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (return_call_with_max_clobbers): Delete. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_RETURN_CALL_WITH_MAX_CLOBBERS): Delete. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * config/aarch64/aarch64.c (aarch64_return_call_with_max_clobbers) (TARGET_RETURN_CALL_WITH_MAX_CLOBBERS): Delete. * lra-int.h (lra_reg::actual_call_used_reg_set): Delete. 2019-09-30Pass an ABI identifier to hard_regno_call_part_clobberedRichard Sandiford1-9/+18

This patch replaces get_call_reg_set_usage with insn_callee_abi, which returns the ABI of the target of a call insn. The ABI's full_reg_clobbers corresponds to regs_invalidated_by_call, whereas many callers instead passed call_used_or_fixed_regs, i.e.: (regs_invalidated_by_call | fixed_reg_set) The patch slavishly preserves the "| fixed_reg_set" for these callers; later patches will clean this up. 2019-09-30 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (insn_callee_abi): New hook. 2019-09-27[C][C++] Allow targets to check calls to BUILT_IN_MD functionsRichard Sandiford1-0/+18
For SVE, we'd like the frontends to check calls to target-specific built-in functions in the same way that they already do for "normal" builtins. This patch adds a target hook for that and extends check_builtin_function_arguments accordingly. A slight complication is that when TARGET_RESOLVE_OVERLOADED_BUILTIN has resolved an overload, it can use build_function_call_vec to build the call to the underlying non-overloaded function decl. This in turn coerces the arguments to the function type and then calls check_builtin_function_arguments to check the final call. If the target does find a problem in this final call, it can be useful to refer to the original overloaded function decl in diagnostics, since that's what the user wrote. The patch therefore passes the original decl as a final optional parameter to build_function_call_vec. 2019-09-27 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (check_builtin_call): New target hook. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_CHECK_BUILTIN_CALL): New @hook. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. gcc/c-family/ * c-common.h (build_function_call_vec): Take the original function decl as an optional final parameter. 2019-09-14Consider doloop IV in IVOPTsKewen Lin1-0/+33
For the targets supporting low-overhead loops, IVOPTs has to take care of the loops which will probably be transformed in RTL doloop optimization, to try to make selected IV candidate set optimal. The process of doloop support includes: 1) Analyze the current loop will be transformed to doloop or not, find and mark its compare type IV use as doloop use (iv_group field doloop_p), and set flag doloop_use_p of ivopts_data to notify subsequent processings on doloop. See analyze_and_mark_doloop_use and its callees for the details. The target hook predict_doloop_p can be used for target specific checks. 2) Add one doloop dedicated IV cand {(may_be_zero ? 1 : (niter + 1)), +, -1}, set flag doloop_p of iv_cand, step cost is set as zero and no extra cost like biv. For cost determination between doloop IV cand and IV use, the target hooks doloop_cost_for_generic and doloop_cost_for_address are provided to add on extra costs for generic type and address type IV use. Zero cost is assigned to the pair between doloop IV cand and doloop IV use, and bound zero is set for IV elimination. 3) With the cost setting in step 2), the current cost model based IV selection algorithm will process as usual, pick up doloop dedicated IV if profitable. gcc/ChangeLog 2019-09-14 Kewen Lin <linkw@gcc.gnu.org> PR middle-end/80791 * config/rs6000/rs6000.c (TARGET_HAVE_COUNT_REG_DECR_P): New macro. 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG_ADVANCERichard Sandiford1-3/+2
There seems to be a bit of confusion around this one. Almost all callers pass the same arguments as TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG, meaning that the mode is the promoted mode rather than the type mode. But the calls.c handling for normal typed arguments instead passes the unpromoted TYPE_MODE (despite passing the promoted mode to TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG). I've kept this behaviour with a ??? comment. (The calls.c handling of libgcc functions does pass the promoted mode though, as does the function.c handling of incoming arguments.) Also, a couple of the arm callers don't seem to be using the hook correctly. Again I kept the current choices and added a ??? comment. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * targhooks.c (default_function_arg_advance): Likewise. * calls.c (initialize_argument_information): Update call to targetm.calls.function_arg_advance. This patch adds the function_arg_info class and uses it for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTES. The hook is passed the promoted mode instead of the original type mode. The patch changes "true" to "arg.named" in: gcc_assert (!epiphany_pass_by_reference (cum, mode, type, /* named */ true)); but epiphany_pass_by_reference doesn't care about the named flag. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (arg_partial_bytes): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * target.h (function_arg_info): Declare. * calls.h (function_arg_info): New class. * targhooks.h (hook_int_CUMULATIVE_ARGS_mode_tree_bool_0): Delete. 2018-11-07doc: Use @: where neededSegher Boessenkool1-3/+3
When an abbreviation ends with a dot followed by whitespace, Texinfo thinks the dot ends a sentence, and applies spacing rules etc. based on that. To prevent this, there is the @: macro. This patch puts @: after every vs., e.g., and i.e. where it is needed. In a few cases there was "@ " already, or "@\n", but @: is slightly better, and more consistent. * target.def: Put @: after every vs., e.g., and i.e. where it is followed by whitespace. * doc/extend.texi: Ditto. * doc/fragments.texi: Ditto. * doc/gimple.texi: Ditto. * doc/implement-c.texi: Ditto. * doc/install.texi: Ditto. * doc/invoke.texi: Ditto. * doc/md.texi: Ditto. * doc/plugins.texi: Ditto. * doc/rtl.texi: Ditto. * doc/sourcebuild.texi: Ditto. * doc/tm.texi.in: Ditto. * doc/ux.texi: Ditto. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. 2018-10-01Add a hook to support telling the mid-end when to probe the stack.Tamar Christina1-4/+11
This patch adds a hook to tell the mid-end about the probing requirements of the target. On AArch64 we allow a specific range for which no probing needs to be done. This same range is also the amount that will have to be probed up when a probe is needed after dropping the stack. Defining this probe comes with the extra requirement that the outgoing arguments size of any function that uses alloca and stack clash be at the very least 8 bytes. With this invariant we can skip doing the zero checks for alloca and save some code. A simplified version of the AArch64 stack frame is: +-----------------------+ | | | | | | +-----------------------+ |LR | +-----------------------+ |FP | +-----------------------+ |dynamic allocations | -\ probe range hook effects these +-----------------------+ --\ and ensures that outgoing stack |padding | -- args is always > 8 when alloca. +-----------------------+ ---/ Which means it's always safe to probe |outgoing stack args |-/ at SP +-----------------------+ This allows us to generate better code than without the hook without affecting other targets. With this patch I am also removing the stack_clash_protection_final_dynamic_probe hook which was added specifically for AArch64 but that is no longer needed. gcc/ PR target/86486 * explow.c (anti_adjust_stack_and_probe_stack_clash): Support custom probe ranges. * target.def (stack_clash_protection_alloca_probe_range): New.
