2021-01-21[PR98777] LRA: Use preliminary created pseudo for in LRA elimination subpassVladimir N. Makarov1-0/+4
LRA did not extend ira_reg_equiv after generation of a pseudo in eliminate_regs_in_insn which might results in LRA crash. It is better not to extend ira_reg_equiv but to use preliminary generated pseudo. The patch implements it. gcc/ChangeLog: PR rtl-optimization/98777 * lra-int.h (lra_pmode_pseudo): New extern. * lra.c (lra_pmode_pseudo): New global. (lra): Set it up. * lra-eliminations.c (eliminate_regs_in_insn): Use it. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: PR rtl-optimization/98777 * gcc.target/riscv/pr98777.c: New.
2021-01-06[PR97978] LRA: Permit temporary allocation incorrectness after hard reg split.Vladimir N. Makarov1-0/+5
LRA can crash when a hard register was split and the same hard register was assigned on the previous assignment sub-pass. The following patch fixes this problem. gcc/ChangeLog: PR rtl-optimization/97978 * lra-int.h (lra_hard_reg_split_p): New external. * lra.c (lra_hard_reg_split_p): New global. (lra): Set up lra_hard_reg_split_p after splitting a hard reg. * lra-assigns.c (lra_assign): Don't check allocation correctness after hard reg splitting. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: PR rtl-optimization/97978 * gcc.target/i386/pr97978.c: New.

2020-10-30Take insn scratch RA requirements into account in IRA.Vladimir N. Makarov1-150/+15
The patch changes insn scratches which require registers for all insn alternatives (in other words w/o X constraint in scratch constraint string). This is done before IRA staring its work. LRA still continue to change the rest scratches (with X constraint and in insn created during IRA) into pseudos. As before the patch at the end of LRA work, spilled scratch pseudos (for which X constraint was chosen) changed into scratches back. gcc/ChangeLog: * lra.c (get_scratch_reg): New function. 2020-03-30lra: set insn_code_data to NULL when freeingDavid Malcolm1-1/+4
libgccjit's test-threads.c repeatedly compiles and runs numerous tests, each in a separate thread. Attempting to add an empty test that generates no code leads to a double-free ICE within that thread, within lra.c's finish_insn_code_data_once. The root cause is that the insn_code_data array is cleared in init_insn_code_data_once, but this is only called the first time a cgraph_node is expanded [1], whereas the "loop-over-all-elements and free them" is unconditionally called in finalize [2]. Hence if there are no functions: * the array is not re-initialized for the empty context * when finish_insn_code_data_once is called for the empty context it still contains the freed pointers from the previous context that held the jit mutex, and hence the free is a double-free. This patch sets the pointers to NULL after freeing them, fixing the ICE. [1] init_insn_code_data_once is called via lra_init_once called by ira_init_once called by initialize_rtl, via: if (!rtl_initialized) ira_init_once (); called by init_function_start called by cgraph_node::expand [2]: finish_insn_code_data_once is called by: lra_finish_once called by finalize gcc/ChangeLog: * lra.c (finish_insn_code_data_once): Set the array elements to NULL after freeing them. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * jit.dg/all-non-failing-tests.h: Add test-empty.c

2019-10-01Remove clobber_highRichard Sandiford1-37/+16
The AArch64 SVE tlsdesc patterns were the main motivating reason for clobber_high. It's no longer needed now that the patterns use calls instead. At the time, one of the possible future uses for clobber_high was for asm statements. However, the current code wouldn't handle that case without modification, so I think we might as well remove it for now. 2019-09-30Remove global call sets: LRARichard Sandiford1-16/+5
lra_reg has an actual_call_used_reg_set field that is only used during inheritance. This in turn required a special lra_create_live_ranges pass for flag_ipa_ra to set up this field. This patch instead makes the inheritance code do its own live register tracking, using the same ABI-mask-and-clobber-set pair as for IRA. Tracking ABIs simplifies (and cheapens) the logic in lra-lives.c and means we no longer need a separate path for -fipa-ra. It also means we can remove TARGET_RETURN_CALL_WITH_MAX_CLOBBERS. The patch also strengthens the sanity check in lra_assigns so that we check that reg_renumber is consistent with the whole conflict set, not just the call-clobbered registers. 2019-09-30 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (return_call_with_max_clobbers): Delete. * doc/tm.texi.in (TARGET_RETURN_CALL_WITH_MAX_CLOBBERS): Delete. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * config/aarch64/aarch64.c (aarch64_return_call_with_max_clobbers) (TARGET_RETURN_CALL_WITH_MAX_CLOBBERS): Delete. * lra-int.h (lra_reg::actual_call_used_reg_set): Delete. 2019-09-10Add call_used_or_fixed_reg_pRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
Similarly to the call_used_or_fixed_regs patch, this one replaces tests of call_used_regs[i] with call_used_or_fixed_reg_p (i). The only remaining direct uses of call_used_regs are in reginfo.c and in the conditional register usage hooks. Again, this is purely mechanical. 2019-07-31Make lra use per-alternative earlyclobber infoRichard Sandiford1-38/+22
lra_insn_reg and lra_operand_data have both a bitmask of earlyclobber alternatives and an overall boolean. The danger is that we then test the overall boolean when really we should be testing for a particular alternative. This patch gets rid of the boolean and tests the mask against zero when we really do need to test "any alternative might be earlyclobber". (I think the only instance of that is the LRA_UNKNOWN_ALT handling in lra-lives.c:reg_early_clobber_p.) This is needed (and tested) by an upcoming SVE patch. 2019-07-31 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * lra-int.h (lra_operand_data): Remove early_clobber field. (lra_update_insn_regno_info): Update calls accordingly. * lra-constraints.c (update_and_check_small_class_inputs): Take the alternative number as a parameter and test whether the operand is earlyclobbered in that particular alternative. (process_alt_operands): Update call accordingly. Use per-alternative checks for earyclobber here too. * lra-lives.c (reg_early_clobber_p): Check early_clobber_alts against zero for IRA_UNKNOWN_ALT. 2018-12-14Fix LRA bugAndrew Stubbs1-2/+10
This patch fixes an ICE building libgfortran/random.c. The problem was an adddi3 instruction that had an eliminable frame pointer. GCN adddi3 includes a match_scratch, which LRA substitutes with a REG, and checks if it can be converted back to a scratch afterwards. In the meantime, the add was converted to a move, meaning that the instruction pattern completely changed, thus causing a segfault when the instruction is revisited in restore_scratches. 2018-12-14 Andrew Stubbs <ams@codesourcery.com> gcc/ * gcc/lra-int.h (lra_register_new_scratch_op): Add third parameter. * gcc/lra-remat.c (update_scratch_ops): Pass icode to lra_register_new_scratch_op. * gcc/lra.c (struct sloc): Add icode field. 2017-12-12[SFN] introduce statement frontier notes, still disabledAlexandre Oliva1-6/+30
This patch completes the infrastructure for the introduction of statement frontiers in C-family languages. It brings in all the code remaining code needed to introduce and transform begin stmt trees, gimple stmts, insns and notes, and ultimately use them to generate the is_stmt column in DWARF2+ line number tables/programs, however none of it is activated: the option that would do so will be introduced in a subsequent patch. 2017-12-04lra: Clobbers in a parallel are earlyclobbers (PR83245)Segher Boessenkool1-8/+4
The documentation (rtl.texi) says: When a @code{clobber} expression for a register appears inside a @code{parallel} with other side effects, the register allocator guarantees that the register is unoccupied both before and after that insn if it is a hard register clobber. and at least the rs6000 backend relies on that (see PR83245). This patch restores that behaviour. Registers that are also used as operands in the instruction are not treated as earlyclobber, so such insns also still work (PR80818, an s390 testcase). 2017-10-26Make more use of df_read_modify_subreg_pRichard Sandiford1-10/+6
This patch uses df_read_modify_subreg_p to check whether writing to a subreg would preserve some of the existing contents. This has the effect of putting more emphasis on the REGMODE_NATURAL_SIZE-based definition of whether something can be partially modified, instead of using UNITS_PER_WORD unconditionally. This becomes important for SVE, where UNITS_PER_WORD has no significance for subregs of multi-register LD2/ST2, LD3/ST3 and LD4/ST4 tuples. 2017-10-26 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * caller-save.c (mark_referenced_regs): Use read_modify_subreg_p. * combine.c (find_single_use_1): Likewise.
