2023-01-16Fix wrong code issues with ipa-sraJan Hubicka1-0/+2
Fix wrong code issues in ipa-sra where we are trying to prove that on every execution of a given function a call to other function will happen. The code uses post dominators and makes a wrong query (which passes only for first BB in function). Hoever post-dominators are only valid if fake edges for every possible reason for fuction execution to terminate are added. Fixing this using postdominators is somewhat costy since one needs to walk whole body and add a lot of fake edges. I ended up implementing a special purpose function for this which is also useful in ipa-modref and other places that does similar analysis. One does not need to modify CFG to use it and moreover for complex functions it usually stops on first unanalyzed function call and ends up being relatively cheap. Bootstrapped/regtested x86_64-linux, plan to commit it shortly. gcc/ChangeLog: 2023-01-16 Jan Hubicka <hubicka@ucw.cz> PR ipa/106077 * ipa-modref.cc (modref_access_analysis::analyze): Use find_always_executed_bbs. * ipa-sra.cc (process_scan_results): Likewise. * ipa-utils.cc (stmt_may_terminate_function_p): New function. 2021-11-11Enable pure-const discovery in modref.Jan Hubicka1-0/+2
We newly can handle some extra cases, for example: struct a {int a,b,c;}; __attribute__ ((noinline)) int init (struct a *a) { a->a=1; a->b=2; a->c=3; } int const_fn () { struct a a; init (&a); return a.a + a.b + a.c; } Here pure/const stops on the fact that const_fn calls non-const init, while modref knows that the memory it initializes is local to const_fn. I ended up reordering passes so early modref is done after early pure-const mostly to avoid need to change testsuite which greps for const functions being detects in pure-const. Stil some testuiste compensation is needed. gcc/ChangeLog: 2021-11-11 Jan Hubicka <hubicka@ucw.cz> * ipa-modref.c (analyze_function): Do pure/const discovery, return true on success. 2021-11-10Extend modref by side-effect analysisJan Hubicka1-0/+4
Make modref to also collect info whether function has side effects. This allows pure/const function detection and also handling functions which do store some memory in similar way as we handle pure/consts now. The code is symmetric to what ipa-pure-const does. Modref is actually more capable on proving that a given function is pure/const (since it understands that non-pure function can be called when it only modifies data on stack) so we could retire ipa-pure-const's pure-const discovery at some point. However this patch only does the anlaysis - the consumers of this flag will come next. Bootstrapped/regtested x86_64-linux. I plan to commit it later today if there are no complains. gcc/ChangeLog: * ipa-modref.c: Include tree-eh.h (modref_summary::modref_summary): Initialize side_effects. 2020-11-17Make ltrans type canonicals compatible with WPA onesJan Hubicka1-2/+0
This patch fixes profiledbootstrap failure with LTO enabled. Not refining alias sets from WPA to ltrans time is a good invariant to maintain and the canonical type hash behaves this way. However I broke this with the ODR logic. Normally we define canonical types for C++ ODR types according to their type names. However to make ODR types compatible with C types we check if structurally equivalent C type exists and if so, we ignore ODR names giving up on the precision. This however is not stable between WPA and ltrans since at ltrans the type merging does not see as many types as WPA does. To make this consistent the patch makes WPA ODR_TYPE_P == 0 for ODR types that conflicted with non-ODR type. I had to drop one sanity check in ipa-utils.h (that I think is not very important - I added it while introducing CXX_ODR_P machinery) and also it now may happen that we query odr_based_tbaa_p before registering first ODR type so we do not want to ICE here. ODR type registration happens early to produce ODR violation warings. Those are not done at ltrans, so dropping the registration is safe. The type will still be added while computing the type inheritance graph if needed for devirtualization (and late devirtualization is not very useful anyway since it won't enable inlining). gcc/ChangeLog: PR bootstrap/97857 * ipa-devirt.c (odr_based_tbaa_p): Do not ICE when odr_hash is not initialized * ipa-utils.h (type_with_linkage_p): Do not sanity check CXX_ODR_P. * tree-streamer-out.c (pack_ts_type_common_value_fields): Set CXX_ODR_P according to the canonical type. gcc/lto/ChangeLog: PR bootstrap/97857 * lto-common.c (gimple_register_canonical_type_1): Only register types with TYPE_CXX_ODR_P flag; sanity check that no conflict happens at ltrans time.
2020-11-13Improve handling of memory operands in ipa-icf 2/4Jan Hubicka1-0/+12
this patch iplements new class ao_compare that is derived from operand_compare and adds a method to compare and hash ao_refs. This is used by ICF to enable more merging. Comparsion is done as follows 1) Verify that the memory access will happen at the same address and will have same size. For constant addresses this is done by comparing ao_ref_base and offset/size For varable accesses it uses operand_equal_p but with OEP_ADDRESS (that does not match TBAA metadata) and then operand_equal_p on type size. 2) Compare alignments. I use get_object_alignment_1 like ipa-icf did before revamp to operand_equal_p in gcc 9. I noticed that return value is bitodd so added a comment 3) Match MR_DEPENDENCE_CLIQUE At this point the memory refrences are same except for TBAA information. We continue by checking 4) ref and base alias sets. Now if lto streaming is going to happen instead of comparing alias sets themselves we compare alias_ptr_types (the patch depends on the ao_ref_alias_ptr_tyep and ao_ref_base_alias_ptr_type acessors I sent yesterday) 5) See if accesses are view converted. If they are we are done since access path is not present 6) Compare the part of access path relevant for TBAA. I recall FRE relies on the fact that if base and ref types are same the access path is, but I do not thing this is 100% reliable especially with LTO alias sets. The access path comparsion logic is also useful for modref (for next stage1). Tracking the access paths improves quite noticeably disambiguation in C++ code by being able to distinquish different fields of same type within a struct. I had the comparsion logic in my tree for some time and it seems to work quite well. During cc1plus build we have some cases where we find mismatch after matching the base/ref alias sets. These are due to failed type merging: access path oracle in LTO uses TYPE_MAIN_VARIANTs. I implemented relatively basic hashing using base and offset. gcc/ChangeLog: * ipa-icf-gimple.c: Include tree-ssa-alias-compare.h. (find_checker::func_checker): Initialize m_tbaa. 2020-06-03Optimize ODR enum streamingJan Hubicka1-0/+2
it turns out that half of the global decl stream of cc1 LTO build consits TREE_LISTS, identifiers and integer cosntats representing TYPE_VALUES of enums. Those are streamed only to produce ODR warning and used otherwise, so this patch moves the info to a separate section that is represented and streamed more effectively. This also adds place for more info that may be used for ODR diagnostics (i.e. at the moment we do not warn when the declarations differs i.e. by the associated member functions and their types) and the type inheritance graph rather then poluting the global stream. I was bit unsure what enums we want to store into the section. All parsed enums is probably too expensive, only those enums streamed to represent IL is bit hard to get, so I went for those seen by free lang data. As a plus we now get bit more precise warning because also the location of mismatched enum CONST_DECL is streamed. It changes: [WPA] read 4608466 unshared trees [WPA] read 2942094 mergeable SCCs of average size 1.365328 [WPA] 8625389 tree bodies read in total [WPA] tree SCC table: size 524287, 247652 elements, collision ratio: 0.383702 [WPA] tree SCC max chain length 2 (size 1) [WPA] Compared 2694442 SCCs, 228 collisions (0.000085) [WPA] Merged 2694419 SCCs [WPA] Merged 3731982 tree bodies [WPA] Merged 633335 types [WPA] 122077 types prevailed (155548 associated trees) ... Things speeds up correspondingly, but I did not save time report from previous build. The enum values are still quite surprisingly large.
