2018-06-01Fix phi backedge detection in backprop (PR85989)Richard Sandiford1-4/+17
This PR is a nasty wrong code bug due to my fluffing a test for a backedge in gimple-ssa-backprop.c. Backedges are supposed to be from definitions in the statement we're visiting to uses in statements that we haven't visited yet. However, the check failed to account for PHIs in the current block that had already been processed, so if two PHIs in the same block referenced each other, we'd treat both references as backedges. In more detail: The first phase of the pass goes through all statements in an arbitrary order, making optimistic assumptions about any statements that haven't been visited yet. The second phase then calculates a correct (supposedly maximal) fixed point. Although the first phase order is arbitrary in principle, we still use the CFG rpo to cut down on the backedges. This means that the only thing that's truly arbitrary is the order that we process the PHIs in a block. Any order should be OK and should eventually give the same results. But we have to follow whatever order we pick, and the pass wasn't doing that. 2018-06-01 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ PR tree-optimization/85989 * gimple-ssa-backprop.c (backprop::m_visited_phis): New member variable. (backprop::intersect_uses): Check it when deciding whether this is a backedge reference. (backprop::process_block): Add each phi to m_visited_phis after visiting it, then clear it at the end. gcc/testsuite/ PR tree-optimization/85989 * gcc.dg/torture/pr85989.c: New test. 2018-05-18Replace FMA_EXPR with one internal fn per optabRichard Sandiford1-9/+3
There are four optabs for various forms of fused multiply-add: fma, fms, fnma and fnms. Of these, only fma had a direct gimple representation. For the other three we relied on special pattern- matching during expand, although tree-ssa-math-opts.c did have some code to try to second-guess what expand would do. This patch removes the old FMA_EXPR representation of fma and introduces four new internal functions, one for each optab. IFN_FMA is tied to BUILT_IN_FMA* while the other three are independent directly-mapped internal functions. It's then possible to do the pattern-matching in match.pd and tree-ssa-math-opts.c (via folding) can select the exact FMA-based operation. The BRIG & HSA parts are a best guess, but seem relatively simple. 2018-05-18 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * doc/sourcebuild.texi (scalar_all_fma): Document. * tree.def (FMA_EXPR): Delete. * internal-fn.def (FMA, FMS, FNMA, FNMS): New internal functions. * internal-fn.c (ternary_direct): New macro. 2017-12-12[SFN] boilerplate changes in preparation to introduce nonbind markersAlexandre Oliva1-1/+1
This patch introduces a number of new macros and functions that will be used to distinguish between different kinds of debug stmts, insns and notes, namely, preexisting debug bind ones and to-be-introduced nonbind markers. In a seemingly mechanical way, it adjusts several uses of the macros and functions, so that they refer to narrower categories when appropriate. These changes, by themselves, should not have any visible effect in the compiler behavior, since the upcoming debug markers are never created with this patch alone. for gcc/ChangeLog * gimple.h (enum gimple_debug_subcode): Add GIMPLE_DEBUG_BEGIN_STMT. 2015-11-17Make more use of combined_fnRichard Sandiford1-31/+25
This patch generalises fold-const.[hc] routines to use combined_fn instead of built_in_function. It also updates gimple-ssa-backprop,c since the update is simple and it avoids churn on the call to negate_mathfn_p. Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi. gcc/ * fold-const.h (negate_mathfn_p): Take a combined_fn rather than a built_in_function. 2015-10-21Add a pass to back-propagate use informationRichard Sandiford1-0/+956
This patch adds a pass that collects information that is common to all uses of an SSA name X and back-propagates that information up the statements that generate X. The general idea is to use the information to simplify instructions (rather than a pure DCE) so I've simply called it gimple-ssa-backprop.c, to go with tree-ssa-forwprop.c. At the moment the only use of the pass is to remove unnecessary sign operations, so that it's effectively a global version of fold_strip_sign_ops. I'm hoping it could be extended in future to record which bits of an integer are significant. There are probably other potential uses too. A later patch gets rid of fold_strip_sign_ops. Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi. gcc/ * doc/invoke.texi (-fdump-tree-backprop, -fssa-backprop): Document. * Makefile.in (OBJS): Add gimple-ssa-backprop.o. * common.opt (fssa-backprop): New option. * fold-const.h (negate_mathfn_p): Declare. * fold-const.c (negate_mathfn_p): Make public. * timevar.def (TV_TREE_BACKPROP): New. * tree-pass.h (make_pass_backprop): Declare. * passes.def (pass_backprop): Add. * gimple-ssa-backprop.c: New file. gcc/testsuite/ * gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-1.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-2.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-3.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-4.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-5.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-6.c: New tests.
