For user code, I think the agreement was if you want to use successfully -mabi=ieeelongdouble, you need glibc 2.32 or later, which is why the Fortran FE doesn't conditionalize on whether glibc 2.32 is available or not and just emits __WHATEVERieee128 entrypoints. But for Fortran compiled sources in libgfortran, we need to use __WHATEVERieee128 only if glibc 2.32 or later and WHATEVERq (from libquadmath) otherwise. The following patch implements that, adds -fbuilding-libgfortran option similar to e.g. -fbuilding-libgcc used when building libgcc and if that option is set and the TARGET_GLIBC_{MAJOR,MINOR} macros indicate no glibc or glibc older than 2.32, it will use the libquadmath APIs rather than glibc 2.32 APIs. 2022-01-07 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> gcc/fortran/ * trans-types.c (gfc_init_kinds): When setting abi_kind to 17, if not targetting glibc 2.32 or later and -fbuilding-libgfortran, set gfc_real16_is_float128 and c_float128 in gfc_real_kinds. 2021-11-16fortran: simplify elemental arguments walkingMikael Morin1-1/+1
This adds two functions working with the wrapper struct gfc_dummy_arg and makes usage of them to simplify a bit the walking of elemental procedure arguments for scalarization. As information about dummy arguments can be obtained from the actual argument through the just-introduced associated_dummy field, there is no need to carry around the procedure interface and walk dummy arguments manually together with actual arguments. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * interface.c (gfc_dummy_arg_get_typespec, gfc_dummy_arg_is_optional): New functions. * gfortran.h (gfc_dummy_arg_get_typespec, gfc_dummy_arg_is_optional): Declare them. * trans.h (gfc_ss_info::dummy_arg): Use the wrapper type as declaration type. * trans-array.c (gfc_scalar_elemental_arg_saved_as_reference): use gfc_dummy_arg_get_typespec function to get the type. 2021-11-12fortran: Ignore unused args in scalarization [PR97896]Mikael Morin1-0/+1
The KIND argument of the INDEX intrinsic is a compile time constant that is used at compile time only to resolve to a kind-specific library function. That argument is otherwise completely ignored at runtime, and there is no code generated for it as the library procedure has no kind argument. This confuses the scalarizer which expects to see every argument of elemental functions used when calling a procedure. This change removes the argument from the scalarization lists at the beginning of the scalarization process, so that the argument is completely ignored. This also reverts the existing workaround (commit d09847357b965a2c2cda063827ce362d4c9c86f2 except for its testcase). PR fortran/97896 gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * intrinsic.c (add_sym_4ind): Remove. 2021-09-27Fortran: Fix assumed-size to assumed-rank passing [PR94070]Tobias Burnus1-71/+48
This code inlines the size0 and size1 libgfortran calls, the former is still used by libgfortan itself (and by old code). Besides permitting more optimizations, it also permits to handle assumed-rank dummies better: If the dummy argument is a nonpointer/nonallocatable, an assumed-size actual arg is repesented by having ubound == -1 for the last dimension. However, for allocatable/pointers, this value can also exist. Hence, the dummy arg attr has to be honored. For that reason, when calling an assumed-rank procedure with nonpointer, nonallocatable dummy arguments, the bounds have to be updated to avoid the case ubound == -1 for the last dimension. PR fortran/94070 gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans-array.c (gfc_tree_array_size): New function to find size inline (whole array or one dimension). (array_parameter_size): Use it, take stmt_block as arg. 2021-09-17Fortran: Use _Float128 rather than __float128 for c_float128 kind.Sandra Loosemore1-3/+3
The GNU Fortran manual documents that the c_float128 kind corresponds to __float128, but in fact the implementation uses float128_type_node, which is _Float128. Both refer to the 128-bit IEEE/ISO encoding, but some targets including aarch64 only define _Float128 and not __float128, and do not provide quadmath.h. This caused errors in some test cases referring to __float128. 2021-04-21Fix Fortran rounding issues, PR fortran/96983.Michael Meissner1-18/+8
I was looking at Fortran PR 96983, which fails on the PowerPC when trying to run the test PR96711.F90. The compiler ICEs because the PowerPC does not have a floating point type with a type precision of 128. The reason is that the PowerPC has 3 different 128 bit floating point types (__float128/_Float128, __ibm128, and long double). Currently long double uses the IBM extended double type, but we would like to switch to using IEEE 128-bit long doubles in the future. In order to prevent the compiler from converting explicit __ibm128 types to long double when long double uses the IEEE 128-bit representation, we have set up the precision for __ibm128 to be 128, long double to be 127, and __float128/_Float128 to be 126. Originally, I was trying to see if for Fortran, I could change the precision of long double to be 128 (Fortran doesn't access __ibm128), but it quickly became hard to get the changes to work. I looked at the Fortran code in build_round_expr, and I came to the conclusion that there is no reason to promote the floating point type. If you just do a normal round of the value using the current floating point format and then convert it to the integer type. We don't have an appropriate built-in function that provides the equivalent of llround for 128-bit integer types. This patch fixes the compiler crash. However, while with this patch, the PowerPC compiler will not crash when building the test case, it will not run on the current default installation. The failure is because the test is explicitly expecting 128-bit floating point to handle 10384593717069655257060992658440192_16 (i.e. 2**113). By default, the PowerPC uses IBM extended double used for 128-bit floating point. The IBM extended double format is a pair of doubles that provides more mantissa bits but does not grow the expoenent range. The value in the test is fine for IEEE 128-bit floating point, but it is too large for the PowerPC extended double setup. I have built the following tests with this patch: * I have built a bootstrap compiler on a little endian power9 Linux system with the default long double format (IBM extended double). The pr96711.f90 test builds, but it does not run due to the range of the real*16 exponent. There were no other regressions in the C/C++/Fortran tests. * I have built a bootstrap compiler on a little endian power9 Linux system with the default long double format set to IEEE 128-bit. I used the Advance Toolchain 14.0-2 to provide the IEEE 128-bits. The compiler was configured to build power9 code by default, so the test generated native power9 IEEE 128-bit instructions. The pr96711.f90 test builds and runs correctly in this setup. * I have built a bootstrap compiler on a big endian power8 Linux system with the default long double format (IBM extended double). Like the first case, the pr96711.f90 test does not crash the compiler, but the test fails due to the range of the real*16 exponent. There were no other regressions in the C/C++/Fortran tests. * I built a bootstrap compiler on my x86_64 laptop. 2020-10-25Correct decls for functions which do not pass actual arguments.Thomas Koenig1-34/+89
A wrong decl for findloc caused segfaults at runtime on Darwin for ARM; however, this is only a symptom of a larger disease: The declarations for our library functions are often inconsistent. This patch solves that problem for the functions specifically for the functions for which we do not pass optional arguments, i.e. findloc and (min|max)loc. It works by saving the symbols of the specific functions in gfc_intrinsic_namespace and by generating the formal argument lists from the actual argument lists. Because symbols are re-used, so are the backend decls. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: PR fortran/97454 * gfortran.h (gfc_symbol): Add pass_as_value flag. 2020-08-18PR fortran/96613,96686 - Fix type/kind issues, temporaries evaluating MIN/MAXHarald Anlauf1-8/+20
When evaluating functions of the MIN/MAX variety inline, use a temporary of appropriate type and kind, and convert to the result type at the end. In the case of allowing for the GNU extensions to MIN/MAX, derive the result kind consistently during simplificaton. Furthermore, the Fortran standard requires type and kind of arguments to the MIN/MAX intrinsics to all have the same type and kind. While a GNU extension accepts kind differences for integer and real arguments which seems to have been used in legacy code, there is no reason to allow different character kinds. We now reject the latter unconditionally. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * check.c (check_rest): Reject MIN/MAX character arguments of different kind. * simplify.c (min_max_choose): The simplification result shall have the highest kind value of the arguments. * trans-intrinsic.c (gfc_conv_intrinsic_minmax): Choose type and kind of intermediate by looking at all arguments, not the result. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gfortran.dg/minmax_char_3.f90: New test. * gfortran.dg/min_max_kind.f90: New test. * gfortran.dg/pr96613.f90: New test.
