2020-12-03 | c++: Add __builtin_bit_cast to implement std::bit_cast [PR93121] | Jakub Jelinek | 1 | -1/+3
The following patch adds __builtin_bit_cast builtin, similarly to clang or MSVC which implement std::bit_cast using such an builtin too. It checks the various std::bit_cast requirements, when not constexpr evaluated acts pretty much like VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR of the source argument to the destination type and the hardest part is obviously the constexpr evaluation. I've left out PDP11 handling of those, couldn't figure out how exactly are bitfields laid out there 2020-12-03 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR libstdc++/93121 * fold-const.h (native_encode_initializer): Add mask argument defaulted to nullptr. 2020-11-18 | Fix middle-end/85811: Introduce tree_expr_maybe_non_p et al. | Roger Sayle | 1 | -0/+7
The motivation for this patch is PR middle-end/85811, a wrong-code regression entitled "Invalid optimization with fmax, fabs and nan". The optimization involves assuming max(x,y) is non-negative if (say) y is non-negative, i.e. max(x,2.0). Unfortunately, this is an invalid assumption in the presence of NaNs. Hence max(x,+qNaN), with IEEE fmax semantics will always return x even though the qNaN is non-negative. Worse, max(x,2.0) may return a negative value if x is -sNaN. I'll quote Joseph Myers (many thanks) who describes things clearly as: > (a) When both arguments are NaNs, the return value should be a qNaN, > but sometimes it is an sNaN if at least one argument is an sNaN. > (b) Under TS 18661-1 semantics, if either argument is an sNaN then the > result should be a qNaN (whereas if one argument is a qNaN and the > other is not a NaN, the result should be the non-NaN argument). > Various implementations treat sNaNs like qNaNs here. Under this logic, the tree_expr_nonnegative_p for IEEE fmax should be: CASE_CFN_FMAX: CASE_CFN_FMAX_FN: /* Usually RECURSE (arg0) || RECURSE (arg1) but NaNs complicate things. In the presence of sNaNs, we're only guaranteed to be non-negative if both operands are non-negative. In the presence of qNaNs, we're non-negative if either operand is non-negative and can't be a qNaN, or if both operands are non-negative. */ if (tree_expr_maybe_signaling_nan_p (arg0) || tree_expr_maybe_signaling_nan_p (arg1)) return RECURSE (arg0) && RECURSE (arg1); return RECURSE (arg0) ? (!tree_expr_maybe_nan_p (arg0) || RECURSE (arg1)) : (RECURSE (arg1) && !tree_expr_maybe_nan_p (arg1)); Which indeed resolves the wrong code in the PR. The infrastructure that makes this possible are the two new functions tree_expr_maybe_nan_p and tree_expr_maybe_signaling_nan_p which test whether a value may potentially be a NaN or a signaling NaN respectively. In fact, this patch adds seven new predicates to the middle-end: bool tree_expr_finite_p (const_tree); bool tree_expr_infinite_p (const_tree); bool tree_expr_maybe_infinite_p (const_tree); bool tree_expr_signaling_nan_p (const_tree); bool tree_expr_maybe_signaling_nan_p (const_tree); bool tree_expr_nan_p (const_tree); bool tree_expr_maybe_nan_p (const_tree); These functions correspond to the "must" and "may" operators in modal logic, and allow us to triage expressions in the middle-end; definitely a NaN, definitely not a NaN, and unknown at compile-time, etc. A prime example of the utility of these functions is that a IEEE floating point value promoted from an integer type can't be a NaN or infinite. Hence (double)i+0.0 where i is an integer can be simplified to (double)i even with -fsignaling-nans. Currently in GCC optimizations are enabled/disabled based on whether the expression's type supports NaNs or sNaNs; with these new predicates they can be controlled by whether the actual operands may or may not be NaNs. Having added these extremely useful helper functions to the middle-end, I couldn't help by use then in a few places in fold-const.c, builtins.c and match.pd. In the near term, these can/should be used in places where the tree optimizers test for HONOR_NANS, HONOR_INFINITIES or HONOR_SNANS, or explicitly test whether a REAL_CST is a NaN or Inf. In the longer term (I'm not volunteering) these predicates could perhaps be hooked into the middle-end's SSA chaining and/or VRP machinery, allowing finiteness to propagated around the CFG, much like we currently propagate value ranges. This patch has been tested on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu with a "make bootstrap" and "make -k check". Ok for mainline? 2020-08-15 Roger Sayle <roger@nextmovesoftware.com> gcc/ChangeLog PR middle-end/85811 * fold-const.c (tree_expr_finite_p): New function to test whether a tree expression must be finite, i.e. not a FP NaN or infinity. 2020-02-13 | sccvn: Handle bitfields in vn_reference_lookup_3 [PR93582] | Jakub Jelinek | 1 | -0/+4
The following patch is first step towards fixing PR93582. vn_reference_lookup_3 right now punts on anything that isn't byte aligned, so to be able to lookup a constant bitfield store, one needs to use the exact same COMPONENT_REF, otherwise it isn't found. This patch lifts up that that restriction if the bits to be loaded are covered by a single store of a constant (keeps the restriction so far for the multiple store case, can tweak that incrementally, but I think for bisection etc. it is worth to do it one step at a time). 2020-02-13 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR tree-optimization/93582 * fold-const.h (shift_bytes_in_array_left, shift_bytes_in_array_right): Declare. * fold-const.c (shift_bytes_in_array_left, shift_bytes_in_array_right): New function, moved from gimple-ssa-store-merging.c, no longer static. * gimple-ssa-store-merging.c (shift_bytes_in_array): Move to gimple-ssa-store-merging.c and rename to shift_bytes_in_array_left. 2018-07-12 | Use conditional internal functions in if-conversion | Richard Sandiford | 1 | -0/+1
This patch uses IFN_COND_* to vectorise conditionally-executed, potentially-trapping arithmetic, such as most floating-point ops with -ftrapping-math. E.g.: if (cond) { ... x = a + b; ... } becomes: ... x = .COND_ADD (cond, a, b, else_value); ... When this transformation is done on its own, the value of x for !cond isn't important, so else_value is simply the target's preferred_else_value (i.e. the value it can handle the most efficiently). However, the patch also looks for the equivalent of: y = cond ? x : c; in which the "then" value is the result of the conditionally-executed operation and the "else" value "c" is some value that is available at x. In that case we can instead use: x = .COND_ADD (cond, a, b, c); and replace uses of y with uses of x. The patch also looks for: y = !cond ? c : x; which can be transformed in the same way. This involved adding a new utility function inverse_conditions_p, which was already open-coded in a more limited way in match.pd. 2018-07-12 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * fold-const.h (inverse_conditions_p): Declare. * fold-const.c (inverse_conditions_p): New function. * match.pd: Use inverse_conditions_p. 2017-12-20 | poly_int: tree constants | Richard Sandiford | 1 | -2/+2
This patch adds a tree representation for poly_ints. Unlike the rtx version, the coefficients are INTEGER_CSTs rather than plain integers, so that we can easily access them as poly_widest_ints and poly_offset_ints. The patch also adjusts some places that previously relied on "constant" meaning "INTEGER_CST". It also makes sure that the TYPE_SIZE agrees with the TYPE_SIZE_UNIT for vector booleans, given the existing: /* Several boolean vector elements may fit in a single unit. */ if (VECTOR_BOOLEAN_TYPE_P (type) && type->type_common.mode != BLKmode) TYPE_SIZE_UNIT (type) = size_int (GET_MODE_SIZE (type->type_common.mode)); else TYPE_SIZE_UNIT (type) = int_const_binop (MULT_EXPR, TYPE_SIZE_UNIT (innertype), size_int (nunits)); 2017-12-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * doc/generic.texi (POLY_INT_CST): Document. * tree.def (POLY_INT_CST): New tree code. * treestruct.def (TS_POLY_INT_CST): New tree layout. * tree-core.h (tree_poly_int_cst): New struct. Upcoming patches to fold-const-call.c want to use c_getstr, which is currently defined in builtins.c. 2015-10-23 | Move fold_trunc_transparent_mathfn to match.pd | Richard Sandiford | 1 | -0/+6
This moves the fold rules for trunc, floor, ceil, round, nearbyint and rint in one go, since they're tested as a group. Most of the code is supporting the f(x)->x fold when x is known to be integer-valued. Like with the non-negative test, this is probably more elegantly handled by tracking range information for reals, but until that happens, I think we should handle it analogously to tree_expr_nonnegative_p. I've incorporated the fix for PR68031 in the new version of integer_valued_real_p. However, it seemed confusing to test for an SSA name at the head of the function rather than the case statement, and not fall through to tree_simple_nonnegative_warnv_p (which conceptually shouldn't care whether an update is in progress). But tree_simple_nonnegative_warnv_p is a no-op for SSA names, so I simply changed it to: return (!name_registered_for_update_p (t) && depth < PARAM_VALUE (PARAM_MAX_SSA_NAME_QUERY_DEPTH) && gimple_stmt_nonnegative_warnv_p (SSA_NAME_DEF_STMT (t), strict_overflow_p, depth)); and used that in the new code too. Doing these folds later meant that IPA would start to use information about the aborting sinf and floor in 20030125-1.c before the folds kicked in. I changed them from noinline to weak to stop that. Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi. gcc/ * builtins.c (integer_valued_real_p): Move to fold-const.c. This patch deletes fold_strip_sign_ops in favour of the gimple-ssa-backprop.c pass. Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi. gcc/ * fold-const.h (fold_strip_sign_ops): Delete. * fold-const.c (fold_strip_sign_ops): Likewise. (fold_unary_loc, fold_binary_loc): Remove calls to it. * builtins.c (fold_builtin_cos, fold_builtin_cosh) (fold_builtin_ccos): Delete. (fold_builtin_pow): Don't call fold_strip_sign_ops. (fold_builtin_hypot, fold_builtin_copysign): Likewise. Remove fndecl argument. (fold_builtin_1): Update calls accordingly. Handle constant cos, cosh, ccos and ccosh here. gcc/testsuite/ * gcc.dg/torture/builtin-symmetric-1.c: Don't run at -O0. From-SVN: r229140
2015-10-21 | Add a pass to back-propagate use information | Richard Sandiford | 1 | -0/+1
This patch adds a pass that collects information that is common to all uses of an SSA name X and back-propagates that information up the statements that generate X. The general idea is to use the information to simplify instructions (rather than a pure DCE) so I've simply called it gimple-ssa-backprop.c, to go with tree-ssa-forwprop.c. At the moment the only use of the pass is to remove unnecessary sign operations, so that it's effectively a global version of fold_strip_sign_ops. I'm hoping it could be extended in future to record which bits of an integer are significant. There are probably other potential uses too. A later patch gets rid of fold_strip_sign_ops. Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi. gcc/ * doc/invoke.texi (-fdump-tree-backprop, -fssa-backprop): Document. * Makefile.in (OBJS): Add gimple-ssa-backprop.o. * common.opt (fssa-backprop): New option. * fold-const.h (negate_mathfn_p): Declare. * fold-const.c (negate_mathfn_p): Make public. * timevar.def (TV_TREE_BACKPROP): New. * tree-pass.h (make_pass_backprop): Declare. * passes.def (pass_backprop): Add. * gimple-ssa-backprop.c: New file. gcc/testsuite/ * gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-1.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-2.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-3.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-4.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-5.c, gcc.dg/tree-ssa/backprop-6.c: New tests. 2015-10-08 | Make tree_expr_nonnegative_warnv_p recurse into SSA names | Richard Sandiford | 1 | -5/+7
The upcoming patch to move sqrt and cbrt simplifications to match.pd caused a regression because the (abs @0)->@0 simplification didn't trigger for: (abs (convert (abs X))) The simplification is based on tree_expr_nonnegative_p, which at the moment just gives up if it sees an SSA_NAME. This patch makes tree_expr_nonnegative_p recurse into SSA name definitions, but limits the depth of recursion to a small number for the reason mentioned in the comment (adapted from an existing comment in gimple_val_nonnegative_real_p). The patch reuses code in tree-vrp.c, moving it to gimple-fold.c. It also replaces calls to gimple_val_nonnegative_real_p with calls to tree_expr_nonnegative_p. A knock-on effect is that we can now prove _i_589 < 0 is false in sequences like: i_1917 = ASSERT_EXPR <i_1075, i_1075 == 0>; _i_589 = (const int) i_1917; _i_1507 = ASSERT_EXPR <_i_589, _i_589 < 0>; This defeats an assert in tree-vrp.c that ASSERT_EXPR conditions are never known to be false. Previously the assert only ever used local knowledge and so would be limited to cases like x != x for integer x. Now that we use global knowledge it's possible to prove the assertion condition is false in blocks that are in practice unreachable. The patch therefore removes the assert. Bootstrapped & regression-tested on x86_64-linux-gnu. I didn't write a specific test because this is already covered by the testsuite if the follow-on patch is also applied. gcc/ * params.def (PARAM_MAX_SSA_NAME_QUERY_DEPTH): New param. * doc/invoke.texi (--param max-ssa-name-query-depth): Document. * fold-const.h (tree_unary_nonnegative_warnv_p) (tree_single_nonnegative_warnv_p, tree_call_nonnegative_warnv_p) (tree_expr_nonnegative_warnv_p): Add depth parameters. * fold-const.c: Include gimple-fold.h and params.h. (tree_ssa_name_nonnegative_warnv_p): New function. (tree_unary_nonnegative_warnv_p, tree_binary_nonnegative_warnv_p) (tree_single_nonnegative_warnv_p, tree_call_nonnegative_warnv_p) (tree_invalid_nonnegative_warnv_p, tree_expr_nonnegative_warnv_p): Add a depth parameter and increment it for recursive calls to tree_expr_nonnegative_warnv_p. Use tree_ssa_name_nonnegative_warnv_p to handle SSA names. * gimple-fold.h (gimple_val_nonnegative_real_p): Delete. Add depth parameters and pass them down to the tree routines. Accept statements that aren't assignments or calls but just return false for them. (gimple_val_nonnegative_real_p): Delete. * tree-ssa-math-opts.c (gimple_expand_builtin_pow): Use tree_expr_nonnegative_p instead of gimple_val_nonnegative_real_p. Check HONOR_NANs first.
