2018-07-31Introduce instance discriminatorsAlexandre Oliva1-4/+66
With -gnateS, the Ada compiler sets itself up to output discriminators for different instantiations of generics, but the middle and back ends have lacked support for that. This patch introduces the missing bits, translating the GNAT-internal representation of the per-file instance map to an instance_table that maps decls to instance discriminators. From: Alexandre Oliva <oliva@adacore.com>, Olivier Hainque <hainque@adacore.com> for gcc/ChangeLog * debug.h (decl_to_instance_map_t): New type. (decl_to_instance_map): Declare. 2018-04-30Use char_span for return type of location_get_source_lineDavid Malcolm1-4/+3
location_get_source_line returns a const char * that isn't 0-terminated, writing back a length through an int * param. This is error-prone, as all call-sites have to take into account the lack of 0-termination, and respect the length of the buffer. It's cleaner to bundle together this pointer+length state into a class, so this patch does so, reusing the "char_span" class that I introduced in r250187 (as part of the fix for PR c/81405). The patch also adds assertions to all access to the char_span. gcc/c-family/ChangeLog: * c-format.c (get_corrected_substring): Update for location_get_source_line returning a char_span. 2018-04-10Set insn_last_address in final_1Richard Sandiford1-0/+3
final_1 already sets insn_current_address for each instruction, making it possible to use some of the address functions in final.c during assembly generation. This patch also sets insn_last_address, since as the comment says, we can treat final as a shorten_branches pass that does nothing. It's then possible to use insn_current_reference_address during final as well. This is needed for the aarch64.md definitions of far_branch to work: (set (attr "far_branch") (if_then_else (and (ge (minus (match_dup 2) (pc)) (const_int -1048576)) (lt (minus (match_dup 2) (pc)) (const_int 1048572))) (const_int 0) (const_int 1)))] This value (tested only during final) uses the difference between the INSN_ADDRESSES of operand 2 and insn_current_reference_address to calculate a conservatively-correct estimate of the branch distance. It takes into account the worst-case gap due to alignment, whereas a direct comparison of INSN_ADDRESSES would give an unreliable, optimistic result. 2018-04-10 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * final.c (final_1): Set insn_last_address as well as insn_current_address. 2018-02-09[LVU] Introduce location viewsAlexandre Oliva1-11/+138
This patch introduces an option to enable the generation of location views along with location lists. The exact format depends on the DWARF version: it can be a separate attribute (DW_AT_GNU_locviews) or (DW_LLE_view_pair) entries in DWARF5+ loclists. Line number tables are also affected. If the assembler is found, at compiler build time, to support .loc views, we use them and assembler-computed view labels, otherwise we output compiler-generated line number programs with conservatively-computed view labels. In either case, we output view information next to line number changes when verbose assembly output is requested. This patch requires an LVU patch that modifies the exported API of final_scan_insn. It also expects the entire SFN patchset to be installed first, although SFN is not a requirement for LVU. for include/ChangeLog * dwarf2.def (DW_AT_GNU_locviews): New. * dwarf2.h (enum dwarf_location_list_entry_type): Add DW_LLE_GNU_view_pair. 2017-12-20poly_int: SUBREG_BYTERichard Sandiford1-2/+3
This patch changes SUBREG_BYTE from an int to a poly_int. Since valid SUBREG_BYTEs must be contained within the mode of the SUBREG_REG, the required range is the same as for GET_MODE_SIZE, i.e. unsigned short. The patch therefore uses poly_uint16(_pod) for the SUBREG_BYTE. Using poly_uint16_pod rtx fields requires a new field code ('p'). Since there are no other uses of 'p' besides SUBREG_BYTE, the patch doesn't add an XPOLY or whatever; all uses should go via SUBREG_BYTE instead. The patch doesn't bother implementing 'p' support for legacy define_peepholes, since none of the remaining ones have subregs in their patterns. As it happened, the rtl documentation used SUBREG as an example of a code with mixed field types, accessed via XEXP (x, 0) and XINT (x, 1). Since there's no direct replacement for XINT, and since people should never use it even if there were, the patch changes the example to use INT_LIST instead. The patch also changes subreg-related helper functions so that they too take and return polynomial offsets. This makes the patch quite big, but it's mostly mechanical. The patch generally sticks to existing choices wrt signedness. 2017-12-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * doc/rtl.texi: Update documentation of SUBREG_BYTE. 2017-12-12[SFN] introduce statement frontier notes, still disabledAlexandre Oliva1-18/+71
This patch completes the infrastructure for the introduction of statement frontiers in C-family languages. It brings in all the code remaining code needed to introduce and transform begin stmt trees, gimple stmts, insns and notes, and ultimately use them to generate the is_stmt column in DWARF2+ line number tables/programs, however none of it is activated: the option that would do so will be introduced in a subsequent patch. 2017-12-02final: Improve output for -dp and -fverbose-asmSegher Boessenkool1-7/+15
This improves the assembler output (for -dp and -fverbose-asm) in several ways. It always prints the insn_cost. It does not print "[length = NN]" but "[c=NN l=NN]", to save space. It does not add one to the instruction alternative number (everything else starts counting those at 0, too). And finally, it tries to keep things lined up in columns a bit better. * final.c (output_asm_name): Print insn_cost. Shorten output. Print which_alternative instead of which_alternative + 1. 2017-08-30[59/77] Add a rtx_jump_table_data::get_data_mode helperRichard Sandiford1-45/+39
This patch adds a helper function to get the mode of the addresses or offsets in a jump table. It also changes the final.c code to use rtx_jump_table_data over rtx or rtx_insn in cases where it needed to use the new helper. This in turn meant adding a safe_dyn_cast equivalent of safe_as_a, to cope with null NEXT_INSNs. 2017-08-30 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * is-a.h (safe_dyn_cast): New function. * rtl.h (rtx_jump_table_data::get_data_mode): New function. 2017-08-22Make more use of paradoxical_subreg_pRichard Sandiford1-2/+1
This patch makes more use of the existing paradoxical_subreg_p predicate and also adds a version that operates on outer and inner modes. Some of the affected tests were based on GET_MODE_SIZE rather than GET_MODE_PRECISION and so the patch could change the result for modes that have the same size but different precisions. I think in each case the change should be a no-op or more correct, since a mode with precision N bits can't be expected to hold all of a mode with precision M>N bits. The patch changes the branch taken in simplify_subreg for modes with equal precision, but the new form matches the commentary more closely. Both branches should be equally good in that situation. 2017-08-22 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * rtl.h (paradoxical_subreg_p): Define inline, and add a version that takes the outer and inner modes. * doc/rtl.texi: Use paradoxical_subreg_p instead of a GET_MODE_SIZE comparison as the canonical test for a paradoxical subreg. * combine.c (simplify_set): Use paradoxical_subreg_p. 2017-08-21Remove the frame size argument from function_prologue/epilogueRichard Sandiford1-4/+3
Later patches will add support for frame sizes that are a run-time invariant but not a compile-time constant. This then raised the question of whether the frame size argument to the function_prologue/ epilogue hooks should be updated accordingly. It turned out that only two targets actually used this argument, and even they got other frame-related information from the cached machine structure. This patch therefore removes the argument and makes the two targets use get_frame_size () instead. 2017-08-21 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (function_prologue): Remove frame size argument. Add an assert to leaf_function_p to ensure it is not called from a prolog or epilog sequence (which would incorrectly return true in a non-leaf function). There are several targets which still call leaf_function_p, and while most appear safe or appear aware of the issue, it is likely not all such calls are safe. This check enables any such latent bugs to be found. gcc/ * final.c (leaf_function_p): Check we are not in a sequence. From-SVN: r248240

2016-11-16gcc: remove unneeded global related to hot/cold partitioningAndrew Burgess1-2/+0
The `user_defined_section_attribute' is used as part of the condition to determine if GCC should partition blocks within a function into hot and cold blocks. This global is initially false, and is set to true from within the file parse phase of GCC, as part of the attribute handling hook. The `user_defined_section_attribute' is reset to false as part of the final pass of GCC. However, the final pass is part of the optimisation phase of the compiler, and so if at any point during the file parse phase any function, or data, has a section attribute the global `user_defined_section_attribute' will be set to true. When GCC performs the block partitioning pass on the first function, if `user_defined_section_attribute' is true then the function will not be partitioned. Notice though, that due to the above, whether we partition this first function or not has nothing to do with whether the function has a section attribute, instead, if any function or data in the parsed file has a section attribute then we don't partition the first function. After performing (or not) the block partitioning pass on the first function we perform the final pass on the first function, at which point we reset `user_defined_section_attribute' to false. As parsing is complete by this point, we will never set `user_defined_section_attribute' to true after that, and so all of the following functions will have the partition blocks pass performed on them, even if the function has a section attribute, and will not be partitioned. Luckily we don't end up partitioning functions that should not be partitioned though. Due to the way that functions are selected during the assembler writing phase, if a function has a section attribute this takes priority over any hot/cold block partitioning that has been done. What we see from the above then is that the `user_defined_section_attribute' mechanism is broken. It was originally created when GCC parsed, optimised, and generated assembler function at a time. Now that we deal with the whole file in one go, we need to update the mechanism used to gate the block partitioning pass. This patch does this by looking specifically for a section attribute on the function DECL, which removes the need for a global variable, and will work whether we parse the whole file in one go, or one function at a time. A few new tests have been added. These check for the case where a function is not partitioned when it could be. gcc/ChangeLog: * gcc/bb-reorder.c: Remove 'toplev.h' include.
