C++20:
#include <compare>
auto cmp4way(double a, double b)
{
return a <=> b;
}
expands to:
ucomisd %xmm1, %xmm0
jp .L8
movl $0, %eax
jne .L8
.L2:
ret
.p2align 4,,10
.p2align 3
.L8:
comisd %xmm0, %xmm1
movl $-1, %eax
ja .L2
ucomisd %xmm1, %xmm0
setbe %al
addl $1, %eax
ret
That is 3 comparisons of the same operands.
The following patch improves it to just one comparison:
comisd %xmm1, %xmm0
jp .L4
seta %al
movl $0, %edx
leal -1(%rax,%rax), %eax
cmove %edx, %eax
ret
.L4:
movl $2, %eax
ret
While a <=> b expands to a == b ? 0 : a < b ? -1 : a > b ? 1 : 2
where the first comparison is equality and this shouldn't raise
exceptions on qNaN operands, if the operands aren't equal (which
includes unordered cases), then it immediately performs < or >
comparison and that raises exceptions even on qNaNs, so we can just
perform a single comparison that raises exceptions on qNaN.
As the 4 different cases are encoded as
ZF CF PF
1 1 1 a unordered b
0 0 0 a > b
0 1 0 a < b
1 0 0 a == b
we can emit optimal sequence of comparions, first jp
for the unordered case, then je for the == case and finally jb
for the < case.
The patch pattern recognizes spaceship-like comparisons during
widening_mul if the spaceship optab is implemented, and replaces
those comparisons with comparisons of .SPACESHIP ifn which returns
-1/0/1/2 based on the comparison. This seems to work well both for the
case of just returning the -1/0/1/2 (when we have just a common
successor with a PHI) or when the different cases are handled with
various other basic blocks. The testcases cover both of those cases,
the latter with different function calls in those.

This patch adds a new __attribute__ ((tainted_args)) to the C/C++ frontends.
It can be used on function decls: the analyzer will treat as tainted
all parameters to the function and all buffers pointed to by parameters
to the function. Adding this in one place to the Linux kernel's
__SYSCALL_DEFINEx macro allows the analyzer to treat all syscalls as
having tainted inputs. This gives some coverage of system calls without
needing to "teach" the analyzer about "__user" - an example of the use
of this can be seen in CVE-2011-2210, where given:
SYSCALL_DEFINE5(osf_getsysinfo, unsigned long, op, void __user *, buffer,
unsigned long, nbytes, int __user *, start, void __user *, arg)
the analyzer will treat the nbytes param as under attacker control, and
can complain accordingly:
taint-CVE-2011-2210-1.c: In function 'sys_osf_getsysinfo':
taint-CVE-2011-2210-1.c:69:21: warning: use of attacker-controlled value
'nbytes' as size without upper-bounds checking [CWE-129] [-Wanalyzer-tainted-size]
69 | if (copy_to_user(buffer, hwrpb, nbytes) != 0)
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Additionally, the patch allows the attribute to be used on field decls:
specifically function pointers. Any function used as an initializer
for such a field gets treated as being called with tainted arguments.
An example can be seen in CVE-2020-13143, where adding
__attribute__((tainted_args)) to the "store" callback of
configfs_attribute:
struct configfs_attribute {
/* [...snip...] */
ssize_t (*store)(struct config_item *, const char *, size_t)
__attribute__((tainted_args));
/* [...snip...] */
};
allows the analyzer to see:
CONFIGFS_ATTR(gadget_dev_desc_, UDC);
and treat gadget_dev_desc_UDC_store as having tainted arguments, so that
it complains:
taint-CVE-2020-13143-1.c: In function 'gadget_dev_desc_UDC_store':
taint-CVE-2020-13143-1.c:33:17: warning: use of attacker-controlled value
'len + 18446744073709551615' as offset without upper-bounds checking [CWE-823] [-Wanalyzer-tainted-offset]
33 | if (name[len - 1] == '\n')
| ~~~~^~~~~~~~~

This introduces a bias parameter for the len_load/len_store ifns as well as
optabs that is meant to distinguish between Power and s390 variants.

Power ISA 2.07 (Power8) introduces transactional memory
feature but ISA3.1 (Power10) removes it. It exposes one
troublesome issue as PR102059 shows. Users define some
function with target pragma cpu=power10 then it calls one
function with attribute always_inline which inherits
command line option -mcpu=power8 which enables HTM
implicitly. The current isa_flags check doesn't allow this
inlining due to "target specific option mismatch" and error
mesasge is emitted.
Normally, the callee function isn't intended to exploit HTM
feature, but the default flag setting make it look it has.
As Richi raised in the PR, we have fp_expressions flag in
function summary, and allow us to check the function
actually contains any floating point expressions to avoid
overkill. So this patch follows the similar idea but is
more target specific, for this rs6000 port specific
requirement on HTM feature check, we would like to check
rs6000 specific HTM built-in functions and inline assembly,
it allows targets to do their own customized checks and
updates.
It introduces two target hooks need_ipa_fn_target_info and
update_ipa_fn_target_info. The former allows target to do
some previous check and decides to collect target specific
information for this function or not. For some special
case, it can predict the analysis result and set it early
without any scannings. The latter allows the
analyze_function_body to pass gimple stmts down just like
fp_expressions handlings, target can do its own tricks.
I put them together as one hook initially with one boolean
to indicate whether it's initial time, but the code looks a
bit ugly, to separate them seems to have better readability.

While cleaning up the bug database, I noticed there was a request
to improve the documentation of the _Complex type extensions.
So I rewrote part of the documentation to make things clearer on
__real/__imag and even added documentation about casts between
the scalar and the complex type.
I moved the documentation of __builtin_complex under this section
too because it makes more sense than having it in the other
built-in section and reference it.
OK? Built make info and make html and checked out the results to
make sure the tables look decent.
gcc/ChangeLog:
PR c/33193
* doc/extend.texi: Extend the documentation about Complex
types for casting and also rewrite the __real__/__imag__
expression portion to use tables.
Move __builtin_complex to the Complex type section.

recognizes them at the same spot as e.g. .ATOMIC_BIT_TEST_AND* internal
functions (fold all builtins pass) and expands them appropriately (or for
the <= 0 and > 0 cases of +/- FAILs and let's middle-end fall back).
So far I have handled just the op_fetch builtins, IMHO instead of handling
also __atomic_fetch_sub (x, y, z) - y == 0 etc. we should canonicalize
__atomic_fetch_sub (x, y, z) - y to __atomic_sub_fetch (x, y, z) (and vice
versa).

This patch adds support for an -Oz command line option, aggressively
optimizing for size at the expense of performance. GCC's current -Os
provides a reasonable balance of size and performance, whereas -Oz is
probably only useful for code size benchmarks such as CSiBE. Or so I
thought until I read in https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25408853
that clang's -Oz sometimes outperforms -O[23s]; I suspect modern instruction
decode stages can treat "pushq $1; popq %rax" as a short uop encoding.
Instead of introducing a new global variable, this patch simply abuses
the existing optimize_size by setting its value to 2. The only change
in behaviour is the tweak to the i386 backend implementing the suggestion
in PR target/32803 to use a short push/pop sequence for loading small
immediate values (-128..127) on x86, matching the behaviour of LLVM.
On x86_64, the simple function:
int foo() { return 25; }
currently generates with -Os:
foo: movl $25, %eax // 5 bytes
ret
With the proposed -Oz, it generates:
foo: pushq $25 // 2 bytes
popq %rax // 1 byte
ret
On CSiBE, this results in a 0.94% improvement (3703513 bytes total
down to 3668516 bytes).

This patch adds support to automatically generate the ISA 3.1 XXSPLTIW
instruction for V8HImode, V4SImode, and V4SFmode vectors. It does this by
adding support for vector constants that can be used, and adding a
VEC_DUPLICATE pattern to generate the actual XXSPLTIW instruction.
Add the eP constraint to recognize constants that can be loaded into
vector registers with a single prefixed instruction such as xxspltiw and
xxspltidp.
I added 4 new tests to test loading up V16QI, V8HI, V4SI, and V4SF vector
constants.

This patch adds support to generate the LXVKQ instruction to load specific
IEEE-128 floating point constants.
Compared to the last time I submitted this patch, I modified it so that it
uses the bit pattern of the vector to see if it can generate the LXVKQ
instruction. This means on a little endian Power<xxx> system, the
following code will generate a LXVKQ 34,16 instruction:
vector long long foo (void)
{
return (vector long long) { 0x0000000000000000, 0x8000000000000000 };
}
because that vector pattern is the same bit pattern as -0.0F128.

This patch adds the +mops architecture extension flag from the 2021 Arm Architecture extensions, Armv8.8-a.
The +mops extensions introduce instructions to accelerate the memcpy, memset, memmove standard functions.
The first patch here uses the instructions in the inline memcpy expansion.
Further patches in the series will use similar instructions to inline memmove and memset.
A new param, aarch64-mops-memcpy-size-threshold, is introduced to control the size threshold above which to
emit the new sequence. Its default setting is 256 bytes, which is the same as the current threshold above
which we'd emit a libcall.
