| Unfortunately, the previous fix to PR94038 is fragile. When the argument to fold_for_warn is a bare CALL_EXPR, then all is well: the result of maybe_constant_value from fold_for_warn (with uid_sensitive=true) is reused via the cv_cache in the subsequent call to maybe_constant_value from cp_fold (with uid_sensitive=false), so we avoid instantiating bar<int>. But when the argument to fold_for_warn is more complex, e.g. an INDIRECT_REF of a CALL_EXPR, as in the testcase below (due to bar<int>() returning const int& which we need to decay to int) then from fold_for_warn we call maybe_constant_value on the INDIRECT_REF, and from cp_fold we call it on the CALL_EXPR, so there is no reuse via the cv_cache and we therefore end up instantiating bar<int>. So for a more robust solution to this general issue of warning flags affecting code generation, it seems that we need a way to globally avoid template instantiation during constexpr evaluation whenever we're performing warning-dependent folding. To that end, this patch replaces the flag constexpr_ctx::uid_sensitive with a global flag uid_sensitive_constexpr_evaluation_p, and enables it during fold_for_warn using an RAII helper. The patch also adds a counter that keeps track of the number of times uid_sensitive_constexpr_evaluation_p is called and returned true, and we use this to determine whether the result of constexpr evaluation was restricted by the flag. This lets us safely update the cv_cache and fold_cache from fold_for_warn in the most common case where the flag did not restrict constexpr evaluation. gcc/cp/ChangeLog: PR c++/94038 * constexpr.c (constexpr_ctx::uid_sensitive): Remove field. | The testcase hit an ICE trying to expand a TARGET_EXPR temporary cached from the other lambda-expression. | The issue here was that we were cp_folding a location wrapper around a lambda capture proxy before it had been mark_rvalue_used. I considered adding mark_rvalue_use calls to build_new_op_1, but it seems appropriate to have them in cp_fold_maybe_rvalue when we know we're trying to produce an rvalue. The change to mark_use is for a related issue: when we change the operand of the location wrapper from VAR_DECL to INTEGER_CST, we need the TREE_CODE of the location wrapper to change as well, from VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR to NON_LVALUE_EXPR. * expr.c (mark_use): Fix location wrapper handling. * cp-gimplify.c (cp_fold_maybe_rvalue): Call mark_rvalue_use. | This is v6 of the patch, as posted to: https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2018-12/msg01331.html The C++ frontend gained various location wrapper nodes in r256448 (GCC 8). That patch: https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2018-01/msg00799.html added wrapper nodes around all nodes with !CAN_HAVE_LOCATION_P for: * arguments at callsites, and for * typeid, alignof, sizeof, and offsetof. This is a followup to that patch, adding many more location wrappers to the C++ frontend. It adds location wrappers for nodes with !CAN_HAVE_LOCATION_P to: * all literal nodes (in cp_parser_primary_expression) * all id-expression nodes (in finish_id_expression), except within a decltype. * all mem-initializer nodes within a mem-initializer-list (in cp_parser_mem_initializer) However, the patch also adds some suppressions: regions in the parser for which wrapper nodes will not be created: * within a template-parameter-list or template-argument-list (in cp_parser_template_parameter_list and cp_parser_template_argument_list respectively), to avoid encoding the spelling location of the nodes in types. For example, "array<10>" and "array<10>" are the same type, despite the fact that the two different "10" tokens are spelled in different locations in the source. * within a gnu-style attribute (none of are handlers are set up to cope with location wrappers yet) * within various OpenMP clauses The patch enables various improvements to locations for bad initializations, for -Wchar-subscripts, and enables various other improvements in the followup patch.
