2020-02-14Fix problematic TLS sequences for the Solaris linkerEric Botcazou1-5/+2
This is an old thinko pertaining to the interaction between TLS sequences and delay slot filling: the compiler knows that it cannot put instructions with TLS relocations into delay slots with the original Sun TLS model, but it tests TARGET_SUN_TLS in this context, which depends only on the assembler. So if the compiler is configured with the GNU assembler and the Solaris linker, then TARGET_GNU_TLS is set instead and the limitation is not enforced. PR target/93704 * config/sparc/sparc.c (eligible_for_call_delay): Test HAVE_GNU_LD in conjunction with TARGET_GNU_TLS in early return.

2019-09-10Remove call_really_used_regsRichard Sandiford2-29/+1
After previous patches, it's now possible for call_used_regs to be the "real" set of call-clobbered registers, without any special handling for fixed registers. This patch therefore removes the separate call_really_used_regs and updates the targets that define CALL_REALLY_USED_REGISTERS so that they handle call_used_regs in the same way that they used to handle call_really_used_regs. With this change, it's no longer necessary for targets that define CALL_REALLY_USED_REGISTERS to define CALL_USED_REGISTER as well. 2019-09-10 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * doc/tm.texi.in: Document that exactly one of CALL_USED_REGISTERS and CALL_REALLY_USED_REGISTERS must be defined, and that CALL_REALLY_USED_REGISTERS is preferred. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * hard-reg-set.h (target_hard_regs::x_call_really_used_regs): Delete. 2019-09-10Add call_used_or_fixed_reg_pRichard Sandiford1-2/+2
Similarly to the call_used_or_fixed_regs patch, this one replaces tests of call_used_regs[i] with call_used_or_fixed_reg_p (i). The only remaining direct uses of call_used_regs are in reginfo.c and in the conditional register usage hooks. Again, this is purely mechanical. A later patch will clear up the oddities in config/ code. 2019-09-10 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * hard-reg-set.h (call_used_or_fixed_reg_p): New macro. * cfgloopanal.c (init_set_costs): Use call_used_or_fixed_reg_p instead of testing call_used_regs directly. * config/aarch64/aarch64.c (aarch64_layout_frame): Likewise. 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG_ADVANCERichard Sandiford1-7/+7
There seems to be a bit of confusion around this one. Almost all callers pass the same arguments as TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG, meaning that the mode is the promoted mode rather than the type mode. But the calls.c handling for normal typed arguments instead passes the unpromoted TYPE_MODE (despite passing the promoted mode to TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG). I've kept this behaviour with a ??? comment. (The calls.c handling of libgcc functions does pass the promoted mode though, as does the function.c handling of incoming arguments.) Also, a couple of the arm callers don't seem to be using the hook correctly. Again I kept the current choices and added a ??? comment. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * targhooks.c (default_function_arg_advance): Likewise. * calls.c (initialize_argument_information): Update call to targetm.calls.function_arg_advance. 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTESRichard Sandiford1-20/+19
This patch adds the function_arg_info class and uses it for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTES. The hook is passed the promoted mode instead of the original type mode. The arguments aren't mentioned in the documentation, which is why the target.def change is so small. The patch changes "true" to "arg.named" in: gcc_assert (!epiphany_pass_by_reference (cum, mode, type, /* named */ true)); but epiphany_pass_by_reference doesn't care about the named flag. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (arg_partial_bytes): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * target.h (function_arg_info): Declare. * calls.h (function_arg_info): New class. * targhooks.h (hook_int_CUMULATIVE_ARGS_mode_tree_bool_0): Delete. 2019-08-13Use checking forms of DECL_FUNCTION_CODE (PR 91421)Richard Sandiford1-2/+4
We were shoe-horning all built-in enumerations (including frontend and target-specific ones) into a field of type built_in_function. This was accessed as either an lvalue or an rvalue using DECL_FUNCTION_CODE. The obvious danger with this (as was noted by several ??? comments) is that the ranges have nothing to do with each other, and targets can easily have more built-in functions than generic code. But my patch to make the field bigger was the straw that finally made the problem visible. This patch therefore: - replaces the field with a plain unsigned int - turns DECL_FUNCTION_CODE into an rvalue-only accessor that checks that the function really is BUILT_IN_NORMAL - adds corresponding DECL_MD_FUNCTION_CODE and DECL_FE_FUNCTION_CODE accessors for BUILT_IN_MD and BUILT_IN_FRONTEND respectively - adds DECL_UNCHECKED_FUNCTION_CODE for places that need to access the underlying field (should be low-level code only) - adds new helpers for setting the built-in class and function code - makes DECL_BUILT_IN_CLASS an rvalue-only accessor too, since all assignments should go through the new helpers 2019-08-13 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ PR middle-end/91421 * tree-core.h (function_decl::function_code): Change type to unsigned int. * tree.h (DECL_FUNCTION_CODE): Rename old definition to... 2019-06-19Simplify setjmp and non-local goto implementation (PR84521)Wilco Dijkstra1-12/+0
This fixes and simplifies the setjmp and non-local goto implementation. Currently the virtual frame pointer is saved when using __builtin_setjmp or a non-local goto. Depending on whether a frame pointer is used, this may either save SP or FP with an immediate offset. However the goto or longjmp always updates the hard frame pointer. A receiver veneer in the original function then assigns the hard frame pointer to the virtual frame pointer, which should, if it works correctly, again assign SP or FP. However the special elimination code in eliminate_regs_in_insn doesn't do this correctly unless the frame pointer is used, and even if it worked by writing SP, the frame pointer would still be corrupted. A much simpler implementation is to always save and restore the hard frame pointer. This avoids 2 redundant instructions which add/subtract the virtual frame offset. A large amount of code can be removed as a result, including all implementations of TARGET_BUILTIN_SETJMP_FRAME_VALUE (all of which already use the hard frame pointer). The expansion of nonlocal_goto on PA can be simplied to just restore the hard frame pointer. This fixes the most obvious issues, however there are still issues on targets which define HARD_FRAME_POINTER_IS_FRAME_POINTER (arm, mips). Each function could have a different hard frame pointer, so a non-local goto may restore the wrong frame pointer (TARGET_BUILTIN_SETJMP_FRAME_VALUE could be useful for this). The i386 TARGET_BUILTIN_SETJMP_FRAME_VALUE was incorrect: if stack_realign_fp is true, it would save the hard frame pointer value but restore the virtual frame pointer which according to ix86_initial_elimination_offset can have a non-zero offset from the hard frame pointer. The ia64 implementation of nonlocal_goto seems incorrect since the helper function moves the the frame pointer value into the static chain register (so this patch does nothing to make it better or worse). AArch64 + x86-64 bootstrap OK, new test passes on AArch64, x86-64 and Arm. gcc/ PR middle-end/84521 * builtins.c (expand_builtin_setjmp_setup): Save hard_frame_pointer_rtx.
