2020-09-18MSP430: Fix CFA generation during function epiloguesJozef Lawrynowicz1-13/+59
There is no CFA information generated for instructions that manipulate the stack during function epilogues. This means a debugger cannot determine the position of variables on the stack whilst the epilogue is in progress. This can cause the debugger to give erroneous information when printing a backtrace whilst stepping through the epilogue, or cause software watchpoints set on stack variables to become invalidated after a function epilogue is executed. The patch fixes this by marking stack manipulation insns as frame_related, and adding reg_note RTXs to stack pop instructions in the epilogue. gcc/ChangeLog: * config/msp430/msp430.c (increment_stack): Mark insns which increment the stack as frame_related. (msp430_expand_prologue): Add comments. (msp430_expand_epilogue): Mark insns which decrement the stack as frame_related. Add reg_note to stack pop insns describing position of register variables on the stack.
2020-09-08MSP430: Fix detection of assembler support for .mspabi_attributeJozef Lawrynowicz1-2/+2
The assembly code ".mspabi_attribute 4,1" uses the object attribute mechanism to indicate that the 430 ISA is in use. However, the default ISA is 430X, so GAS fails to assemble this since the ISA wasn't also set to 430 on the command line. gcc/ChangeLog: * config/msp430/msp430.c (msp430_file_end): Fix jumbled HAVE_AS_MSPABI_ATTRIBUTE and HAVE_AS_GNU_ATTRIBUTE checks. * configure: Regenerate. * configure.ac: Use ".mspabi_attribute 4,2" to check for assembler support for this object attribute directive.
2020-09-08MSP430: Use enums to handle -mcpu= valuesJozef Lawrynowicz1-13/+8
The -mcpu= option accepts only a handful of string values. Using enums instead of strings to handle the accepted values removes the need to have specific processing of the strings in the backend, and simplifies any comparisons which need to be performed on the value. It also allows the default value to have semantic equivalence to a user set value, whilst retaining the ability to differentiate between them. Practically, this allows a user set -mcpu= value to override the the ISA set by -mmcu, whilst the default -mcpu= value can still have an explicit meaning. gcc/ChangeLog: * common/config/msp430/msp430-common.c (msp430_handle_option): Remove OPT_mcpu_ handling. 2020-09-07MSP430: Don't override default ISA when MCU name is unrecognizedJozef Lawrynowicz1-9/+2
430X is the default ISA under normal operation, so even when the MCU name passed to -mmcu= is unrecognized, it should not be overriden. gcc/ChangeLog: * config/msp430/msp430.c (msp430_option_override): Don't set the ISA to 430 when the MCU is unrecognized. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gcc.target/msp430/430x-default-isa.c: New test.
2020-08-26MSP430: Simplify and extend shift instruction patternsJozef Lawrynowicz1-82/+190
The implementation of define_expand and define_insn patterns to handle shifts in the MSP430 backend is inconsistent, resulting in missed opportunities to make best use of the architecture's features. There's now a single define_expand used as the entry point for all valid shifts, and the decision to either use a helper function to perform the shift (often required for the 430 ISA), or fall through to the define_insn patterns can be made from that expander function. Shifts by a constant amount have been grouped into one define_insn for each type of shift, instead of having different define_insn patterns for shifts by different amounts. A new target option "-mmax-inline-shift=" has been added to allow tuning of the number of shift instructions to emit inline, instead of using a library helper function. gcc/ChangeLog: * config/msp430/constraints.md (K): Change unused constraint to constraint to a const_int between 1 and 19. 2020-04-13MSP430: Dont add offsets to addresses when emitting asm for post_incJozef Lawrynowicz1-3/+7
Some insns, which operate on SImode operands, output assembler template that comprise of multiple instructions using HImode operands. To access the high word of an SImode operand, an operand selector '%H' is used to offset the operand value by a constant amount. When one of these HImode operands is a memory reference to a post_inc, the address does not need to be offset, since the preceding instruction has already offset the address to the correct value. This fixes an ICE in change_address_1, at emit-rtl.c:2318 for gcc.c-torture/execute/pr20527-1.c in the "-mlarge -O2 -flto -fuse-linker-plugin -fno-fat-lto-objects" configuration. This test generated the following insn, and the attempt to output the high part of the post_inc address caused the ICE. (set (reg:SI 6 R6) (minus:SI (reg:SI 6 R6) (mem:SI (post_inc:PSI (reg:PSI 10 R10)) {subsi3} gcc/ChangeLog: 2020-04-13 Jozef Lawrynowicz <jozef.l@mittosystems.com> * config/msp430/msp430.c (msp430_print_operand): Don't add offsets to memory references in %B, %C and %D operand selectors when the inner operand is a post increment address.
2020-04-13MSP430: Fix memory offsets used by %C and %D asm output operand modifiersJozef Lawrynowicz1-2/+2
The %C and %D operand modifiers are supposed to access the 3rd and 4th words of a 64-bit value, so for memory references they need to offset the given address by 4 and 6 bytes respectively. gcc/ChangeLog: 2020-04-13 Jozef Lawrynowicz <jozef.l@mittosystems.com> * config/msp430/msp430.c (msp430_print_operand): Offset a %C memory reference by 4 bytes, and %D memory reference by 6 bytes. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: 2020-04-13 Jozef Lawrynowicz <jozef.l@mittosystems.com> * gcc.target/msp430/operand-modifiers.c: New test.
2020-04-09MSP430: Indiciate that the epilogue_helper insn does not fallthruJozef Lawrynowicz1-1/+1
This fixes an ICE in rtl_verify_fallthru, at cfgrtl.c:2970 gcc.c-torture/execute/20071210-1.c for -mcpu=msp430 at -O2 and above. The epilogue_helper insn was treated as a regular insn which will fallthru, so when a barrier is emitted after it, RTL verification failed as rtl_verify_fallthru. gcc/ChangeLog: 2020-04-09 Jozef Lawrynowicz <jozef.l@mittosystems.com> * config/msp430/msp430.c (msp430_expand_epilogue): Use emit_jump_insn when to emit the epilogue_helper insn. * config/msp430/msp430.md (epilogue_helper): Add a return insn to the RTL pattern.
2020-03-17Fix up duplicated duplicated words mostly in commentsJakub Jelinek1-1/+1
In the r10-7197-gbae7b38cf8a21e068ad5c0bab089dedb78af3346 commit I've noticed duplicated word in a message, which lead me to grep for those and we have a tons of them. I've used grep -v 'long long\|optab optab\|template template\|double double' *.[chS] */*.[chS] *.def config/*/* 2>/dev/null | grep ' \([a-zA-Z]\+\) \1 ' Note, the command will not detect the doubled words at the start or end of line or when one of the words is at the end of line and the next one at the start of another one. Some of it is fairly obvious, e.g. all the "the the" cases which is something I've posted and committed patch for already e.g. in 2016, other cases are often valid, e.g. "that that" seems to look mostly ok to me. Some cases are quite hard to figure out, I've left out some of them from the patch (e.g. "and and" in some cases isn't talking about bitwise/logical and and so looks incorrect, but in other cases it is talking about those operations). In most cases the right solution seems to be to remove one of the duplicated words, but not always. I think most important are the ones with user visible messages (in the patch 3 of the first 4 hunks), the rest is just comments (and internal documentation; for that see the doc/tm.texi changes). 2020-03-17 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * lra-spills.c (remove_pseudos): Fix up duplicated word issue in a dump message. * tree-sra.c (create_access_replacement): Fix up duplicated word issue in a comment. * read-rtl-function.c (find_param_by_name, function_reader::parse_enum_value, function_reader::get_insn_by_uid): Likewise. * spellcheck.c (get_edit_distance_cutoff): Likewise. * tree-data-ref.c (create_ifn_alias_checks): Likewise. * tree.def (SWITCH_EXPR): Likewise. * selftest.c (assert_str_contains): Likewise. * ipa-param-manipulation.h (class ipa_param_body_adjustments): Likewise. * tree-ssa-math-opts.c (convert_expand_mult_copysign): Likewise. * tree-ssa-loop-split.c (find_vdef_in_loop): Likewise. * langhooks.h (struct lang_hooks_for_decls): Likewise. * ipa-prop.h (struct ipa_param_descriptor): Likewise. * tree-ssa-strlen.c (handle_builtin_string_cmp, handle_store): Likewise. * tree-ssa-dom.c (simplify_stmt_for_jump_threading): Likewise. * tree-ssa-reassoc.c (reassociate_bb): Likewise. * tree.c (component_ref_size): Likewise. * hsa-common.c (hsa_init_compilation_unit_data): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-sprintf.c (get_string_length, format_string, format_directive): Likewise. * omp-grid.c (grid_process_kernel_body_copy): Likewise. * input.c (string_concat_db::get_string_concatenation, test_lexer_string_locations_ucn4): Likewise. * cfgexpand.c (pass_expand::execute): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-warn-restrict.c (builtin_memref::offset_out_of_bounds, maybe_diag_overlap): Likewise. * rtl.c (RTX_CODE_HWINT_P_1): Likewise. * shrink-wrap.c (spread_components): Likewise. * tree-ssa-dse.c (initialize_ao_ref_for_dse, valid_ao_ref_for_dse): Likewise. * tree-call-cdce.c (shrink_wrap_one_built_in_call_with_conds): Likewise. * dwarf2out.c (dwarf2out_early_finish): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-store-merging.c: Likewise. * ira-costs.c (record_operand_costs): Likewise. * tree-vect-loop.c (vectorizable_reduction): Likewise. * target.def (dispatch): Likewise. 2019-09-10Add call_used_or_fixed_reg_pRichard Sandiford1-1/+1
Similarly to the call_used_or_fixed_regs patch, this one replaces tests of call_used_regs[i] with call_used_or_fixed_reg_p (i). 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG_ADVANCERichard Sandiford1-4/+2
There seems to be a bit of confusion around this one. Almost all callers pass the same arguments as TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG, meaning that the mode is the promoted mode rather than the type mode. But the calls.c handling for normal typed arguments instead passes the unpromoted TYPE_MODE (despite passing the promoted mode to TARGET_FUNCTION_ARG). I've kept this behaviour with a ??? comment. (The calls.c handling of libgcc functions does pass the promoted mode though, as does the function.c handling of incoming arguments.) Also, a couple of the arm callers don't seem to be using the hook correctly. Again I kept the current choices and added a ??? comment. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * targhooks.h (default_function_arg_advance): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * targhooks.c (default_function_arg_advance): Likewise. * calls.c (initialize_argument_information): Update call to targetm.calls.function_arg_advance. 2019-08-20Use function_arg_info for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTESRichard Sandiford1-5/+2
This patch adds the function_arg_info class and uses it for TARGET_ARG_PARTIAL_BYTES. The hook is passed the promoted mode instead of the original type mode. The arguments aren't mentioned in the documentation, which is why the target.def change is so small. The patch changes "true" to "arg.named" in: gcc_assert (!epiphany_pass_by_reference (cum, mode, type, /* named */ true)); but epiphany_pass_by_reference doesn't care about the named flag. 2019-08-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * target.def (arg_partial_bytes): Take a function_arg_info instead of a mode, type and named flag. * doc/tm.texi: Regenerate. * target.h (function_arg_info): Declare. * calls.h (function_arg_info): New class. * targhooks.h (hook_int_CUMULATIVE_ARGS_mode_tree_bool_0): Delete. 2019-08-14Add generic support for noinit attribute.Christophe Lyon1-2/+2
Similar to what already exists for TI msp430 or in TI compilers for arm, this patch adds support for the "noinit" attribute. It is convenient for embedded targets where the user wants to keep the value of some data when the program is restarted: such variables are not zero-initialized. It is mostly a helper/shortcut to placing variables in a dedicated section. 2019-08-13Use checking forms of DECL_FUNCTION_CODE (PR 91421)Richard Sandiford1-1/+1
We were shoe-horning all built-in enumerations (including frontend and target-specific ones) into a field of type built_in_function. This was accessed as either an lvalue or an rvalue using DECL_FUNCTION_CODE. The obvious danger with this (as was noted by several ??? comments) is that the ranges have nothing to do with each other, and targets can easily have more built-in functions than generic code. But my patch to make the field bigger was the straw that finally made the problem visible. This patch therefore: - replaces the field with a plain unsigned int - turns DECL_FUNCTION_CODE into an rvalue-only accessor that checks that the function really is BUILT_IN_NORMAL - adds corresponding DECL_MD_FUNCTION_CODE and DECL_FE_FUNCTION_CODE accessors for BUILT_IN_MD and BUILT_IN_FRONTEND respectively - adds DECL_UNCHECKED_FUNCTION_CODE for places that need to access the underlying field (should be low-level code only) - adds new helpers for setting the built-in class and function code - makes DECL_BUILT_IN_CLASS an rvalue-only accessor too, since all assignments should go through the new helpers 2019-08-13 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ PR middle-end/91421 * tree-core.h (function_decl::function_code): Change type to unsigned int. * tree.h (DECL_FUNCTION_CODE): Rename old definition to...
