In cfgexpand, there is an optimization for branch which tests
targetm.gen_ccmp_first == NULL. However for target like x86-64, the
hook was implemented but it does not indicate that ccmp was enabled.
Add a new target hook TARGET_HAVE_CCMP and replace the middle-end
check for the existance of gen_ccmp_first to avoid misoptimization.

The gcc.c-torture/execute/pr111422.c testcase after installing the
sink pass improvement reveals that we also need to handle
_65 = &g + _58; _44 = &g + _43;
# _59 = PHI <_65, _44>
*_59 = 8;
g = {v} {CLOBBER(eos)};
...
n[0] = &f;
*_59 = 8;
g = {v} {CLOBBER(eos)};
where we fail to see the conflict between n and g after the first
clobber of g. Before the sinking improvement there was a conflict
recorded on a path where _65/_44 are unused, so the real conflict
was missed but the fake one avoided the miscompile.
The following handles PHI defs in add_scope_conflicts_2 which
fixes the issue.

The following speeds up stack variable conflict detection by recognizing
that the all-to-all conflict recording is only necessary for CFG merges
as it's the unioning of the live variable sets that doesn't come with
explicit mentions we record conflicts for.
If we employ this optimization we have to make sure to perform the
all-to-all conflict recording for all CFG merges even those into
empty blocks where we might previously have skipped this.
I have reworded the comment before the all-to-all conflict recording
since it seemed to be confusing and missing the point - but maybe I
am also missing something here.
Nevertheless for the testcase in the PR the compile-time spend in
add_scope_conflicts at -O1 drops from previously 67s (39%) to 10s (9%).
PR middle-end/114579

conflicts only when there's a CFG merge but for all CFG merges.

When cfgexpand was changed to support expanding from tuple gimple
(r0-95521-g28ed065ef9f345), the code was added to support
doing nontemporal stores with LHS of a SSA_NAME but that will
never be a nontemporal store.
This patch removes that and asserts that expanding with a LHS
of a SSA_NAME is not a nontemporal store.
Bootstrapped and tested on x86_64-linux-gnu.

The Linux kernel and the following testcase distilled from it is
miscompiled, because tree-outof-ssa.cc (eliminate_phi) emits some
fixups on some of the edges (but doesn't commit edge insertions).
Later expand_asm_stmt emits further instructions on the same edge.
Now the problem is that expand_asm_stmt uses insert_insn_on_edge
to add its own fixups, but that function appends to the existing
sequence on the edge if any. And the bug triggers when the
fixup sequence emitted by eliminate_phi uses a pseudo which the
fixup sequence emitted by expand_asm_stmt later on sets.
So, we end up with
(set (reg A) (asm_operands ...))
and on one of the edges queued sequence
(set (reg C) (reg B)) // added by eliminate_phi
(set (reg B) (reg A)) // added by expand_asm_stmt
That is wrong, what we emit by expand_asm_stmt needs to be as close
to the asm_operands as possible (they aren't known until expand_asm_stmt
is called, the PHI fixup code assumes it is reg B which holds the right
value) and the PHI adjustments need to be done after it.
So, the following patch introduces a prepend_insn_to_edge function and
uses it from expand_asm_stmt, so that we queue
(set (reg B) (reg A)) // added by expand_asm_stmt
(set (reg C) (reg B)) // added by eliminate_phi
instead and so the value from the asm_operands output propagates correctly
to the PHI result.

I went through suspicios %l in format strings of *printf family functions

Quite a few had size_t type, so I've used the new HOST_SIZE_T_PRINT_*

The asm goto expansion ICEs on the following testcase (which normally
is rejected later), because expand_asm_stmt emits the code to copy
the large var out of the out operand to its memory location into
after_rtl_seq ... after_rtl_end sequence and because it is asm goto,
it duplicates the sequence on each successor edge of the asm goto.
The problem is that with -mstringop-strategy=byte_loop that sequence
contains loops, so CODE_LABELs, JUMP_INSNs, with other strategies
could contain CALL_INSNs etc.
But the copying is done using a loop doing
emit_insn (copy_insn (PATTERN (curr)));
which does the right thing solely for INSNs, it will do the wrong thing
for JUMP_INSNs, CALL_INSNs, CODE_LABELs (with RTL checking even ICE on
them), BARRIERs and the like.
The following patch partially fixes it (with the hope that such stuff only
occurs in asms that really can't be accepted; if one uses say "=rm" or
"=g" constraint then the operand uses the memory directly and nothing is
copied) by using the
duplicate_insn_chain function which is used e.g. in RTL loop unrolling and
which can handle JUMP_INSNs, CALL_INSNs, BARRIERs etc.
As it is meant to operate on sequences inside of basic blocks, it doesn't
handle CODE_LABELs (well, it skips them), so if we need a solution that
will be correct at runtime here for those cases, we'd need to do further
work (e.g. still use duplicate_insn_chain, but if we notice any CODE_LABELs,
walk the sequence again, add copies of the CODE_LABELs and then remap
references to the old CODE_LABELs in the copied sequence to the new ones).
Because as is now, if the code in one of the sequence copies (where the
CODE_LABELs have been left out) decides to jump to such a CODE_LABEL, it
will jump to the CODE_LABEL which has been in the original sequence (which
the code emits on the last edge, after all, duplicating the sequence
EDGE_COUNT times and throwing away the original was wasteful, compared to
doing that just EDGE_COUNT - 1 times and using the original.

Ccmp is not used if the result of the and/ior is used by both
a GIMPLE_COND and a GIMPLE_ASSIGN. This improves the code generation
here by using ccmp in this case.
Two changes is required, first we need to allow the outer statement's
result be used more than once.
The second change is that during the expansion of the gimple, we need
to try using ccmp. This is needed because we don't use expand the ssa
name of the lhs but rather expand directly from the gimple.
A small note on the ccmp_4.c testcase, we should be able to get slightly
better than with this patch but it is one extra instruction compared to
before.

On aarch64 the backend decides to use non-BLKmode for some arrays
like unsigned long[4] - OImode in that case, but the corresponding
BITINT_TYPEs have BLKmode (like structures containing that many limb
elements).
This later causes ICEs durring expansion when expanding VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR
from non-BLKmode VAR_DECL to BLKmode BITINT_TYPE.
The following fix contains two parts, the discover_nonconstant_array_refs_r
is make sure we force such variables into memory and the expand_expr_real_1
change makes sure we don't try to extract a bitfield or something similar
which doesn't really work for BLKmode - as op0 is a MEM, all we need is
the op0 = adjust_address (op0, mode, 0); at the end to change the MEM's mode
to BLKmode.

The following patch adds a quick workaround to bugs in VAR_DECL
partitioning.
The problem is that there is no dependency between ADDR_EXPRs of local
decls and CLOBBERs of those vars, so VN can CSE uses of ADDR_EXPRs
(including ivopts integral variants thereof), which can break
add_scope_conflicts discovery of what variables are actually used
in certain region.
E.g. we can have
ivtmp.40_3 = (unsigned long) &MEM <unsigned long[100]> [(void *)&bitint.6 + 8B];
...
uses of ivtmp.40_3
...
bitint.6 ={v} {CLOBBER(eos)};
...
ivtmp.28_43 = (unsigned long) &MEM <unsigned long[100]> [(void *)&bitint.6 + 8B];
...
uses of ivtmp.28_43
before VN (such as dom3), which the add_scope_conflicts code identifies as 2
independent uses of bitint.6 variable (which is correct), but then VN
determines ivtmp.28_43 is the same as ivtmp.40_3 and just uses ivtmp.40_3
even in the second region; at that point add_scope_conflict thinks the
bitint.6 variable is not used in that region anymore.
The following patch does a simple single def-stmt check for such ADDR_EXPRs
(rather than say trying to do a full propagation of what SSA_NAMEs can
contain ADDR_EXPRs of local variables), which seems to workaround all 4 PRs.
In addition to this patch I've used the attached one to gather statistics
on the total size of all variable partitions in a function and seems besides
the new testcases nothing is really affected compared to no patch (I've
actually just modified the patch to == OMP_SCAN instead of == ADDR_EXPR, so
it looks the same except that it never triggers). The comparison wasn't
perfect because I've only gathered BITS_PER_WORD, main_input_filename (did
some replacement of build directories and /tmp/ccXXXXXX names of LTO to make
it more similar between the two bootstraps/regtests), current_function_name
and the total size of all variable partitions if any, because I didn't
record e.g. the optimization options and so e.g. torture tests which iterate
over options could have different partition sizes even in one compiler when
BITS_PER_WORD, main_input_filename and current_function_name are all equal.
So had to write an awk script to check if the first triple in the second
build appeared in the first one and the quadruple in the second build
appeared in the first one too, otherwise print result and that only
triggered in the new tests.
Also, the cc1plus binary according to objdump -dr is identical between the
two builds except for the ADDR_EXPR vs. OMP_SCAN constant in the two spots.

Arm's SME has an array called ZA that for inline asm purposes
is effectively a form of special-purpose memory. It doesn't
have an associated storage type and so can't be passed and
returned in normal C/C++ objects.
We'd therefore like "za" in a clobber list to mean that an inline
asm can read from and write to ZA. (Just reading or writing
individually is unlikely to be useful, but we could add syntax
for that too if necessary.)

VEC_WIDEN_{PLUS,MINUS}_{HI,LO}_EXPR in expand_debug_expr [PR108967]
When these tree codes were introduced, expand_debug_expr hasn't been
updated to handle them. For the VEC_*_EXPR we currently mostly punt, the
non-vector ones can be handled easily. In release compilers this doesn't
ICE, but with checking we ICE so that we make sure to handle all the needed
tree codes there.

DCE now chokes on indirect setjmp calls becoming direct because
that exposes them too late to be subject to abnormal edge creation.
The following patch honors gimple_call_ctrl_altering for those and
_not_ treat formerly indirect calls to setjmp as calls to setjmp
in notice_special_calls.
Unfortunately there's no way to have an indirect call to setjmp
properly annotated (the returns_twice attribute is ignored on types).
RTL expansion late discovers returns-twice for the purpose of
adding REG_SETJMP notes and also sets ->calls_setjmp
(instead of asserting it is set). There's no good way to
transfer proper knowledge around here so I'm using ->calls_setjmp
as a flag to indicate whether gimple_call_ctrl_altering_p was set.

The following addresses a long standing issue with not preserving
accesses to non-volatile objects through volatile qualified
pointers in the case that object gets expanded to a register. The
fix is to treat accesses to an object with a volatile qualified

exposed recently so it regressed more since GCC 11.

Sorry for the long delay getting back to this, but after deeper
investigation, it turns out that Jeff Law's tingling spider senses
that the original patch wasn't updating everywhere that was required
were spot on. Although my nvptx testing showed no problems with -O2,
compiling the same tests with -O0 found several additional assertion
ICEs (exactly where he'd predicted they'd be).
Here's a revised patch that updates five locations (up from the
previous two). Finding any remaining locations (if any) might be
easier once folks are able to test things on their targets. This
also implements Jeff's suggestion to factor the common code into
helper routines.

without varpool nodes [PR105630]
This is similar to the earlier patch to avoid having MEM_EXPRs
referencing global vars without varpool nodes, but this time
the difference is that during gimplification some hashing
actually created DECL_RTLs for the n VAR_DECL and the previous
change was in the if above this when DECL_RTL is NULL and we are
considering creating it.
The following patch drops on the floor references to vars where
we've optimized away the varpool node even when it has DECL_RTL.
Bootstrapped/regtested on x86_64-linux and i686-linux, plus
bootstrapped on those without the cfgexpand.cc change, reapplied
it and rebuilt stage3 cc1/cc1plus, the resulting cc1/cc1plus
binaries on both targets were identical except for the 16-byte
executable_checksum (I've done the second bootstraps in the same
directory as the first one after moving the previous one elsewhere,
so pathnames were the same, just checksum hasn't been regenerated).
So, at least on those binaries this patch doesn't affect debug info
at all.
2022-05-19 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com>
PR debug/105630
* cfgexpand.cc (expand_debug_expr): For VAR_DECL, punt for

set.
* gcc.dg/pr105630.c: New test.

|
The following testcase fails -fcompare-debug on aarch64-linux. The problem
is that for the n variable we create a varpool node, then remove it again
because the var isn't really used, but it keeps being referenced in debug
stmts/insns with -g. Later during sched1 pass we ask whether the n var
can be modified through some store to an anchored variable and with -g
we create a new varpool node for it again just so that we can find its
ultimate alias target. Even later on we create some cgraph node for the
loop parallelization, but as there has been an extra varpool node creation
in between, we get higher node->order with -g than without.
The patch fixes that by throwing variables without varpool nodes away
during expansion time, they are very unlikely to actually end up with
useful debug info anyway.
I've bootstrapped/regtested the following on x86_64-linux and i686-linux,
then bootstrapped with the patch reverted, reapplied the patch and did make
cc1plus in stage3. The debug section sizes are identical, .debug_info and
.debug_loc is identical too, so I think we don't lose any debug info through
it.
So at least on cc1plus it makes no difference.

As noticed we are looking for INDIRECT_REF with allows_mem to avoid
a copy since then we're sure the operand is in memory (assuming
*& is folded). But INDIRECT_REFs are no longer a thing, the following
replaces the check with a check for a MEM_REF with a non-ADDR_EXPR
operand. This should fix the regression part without fully
exploring all possibilities around tcc_reference operands.
I've placed an assert that we do not see an INDIRECT_REF here.
While we gimplify asm operands we never do any checking on its
IL afterwards.
