My patch to implement -Wno-attribute=A::b caused a bogus error when parsing [[foo::bar(1, 2)]]; when -Wno-attributes=foo::bar was specified on the command line, because when we create a fake foo::bar attribute and insert it into our attribute table, it is created with max_length == 0 which doesn't allow any args. That is wrong -- we know nothing about the attribute, so we shouldn't require any specific number of arguments. And since unknown attributes can be rather complex (see for example omp::{directive,sequence}), we must skip parsing their arguments. To that end, I'm using max_length with value -2. Also let's not warn about things like [[vendor::assume(true)]]; because they may have some meaning (this is reminiscent of C++ Portable Assumptions). Now that GCC is compiled as C++11 there is no need to keep the C++03 implementation of gnu::unique_ptr. This removes the unique-ptr.h header and replaces it with <memory> in system.h, and changes the INCLUDE_UNIQUE_PTR macro to INCLUDE_MEMORY. Uses of gnu::unique_ptr and gnu::move can be replaced with std::unique_ptr and std::move. 2021-12-09pch: Add support for relocation of the PCH data [PR71934]Jakub Jelinek1-2/+2
The following patch adds support for relocation of the PCH blob on PCH restore if we don't manage to get the preferred map slot for it. The GTY stuff knows where all the pointers are, after all it relocates it once during PCH save from the addresses where it was initially allocated to addresses in the preferred map slot. But, if we were to do it solely using GTY info upon PCH restore, we'd need another set of GTY functions, which I think would make it less maintainable and I think it would also be more costly at PCH restore time. Those functions would need to call something to add bias to pointers that haven't been marked yet and make sure not to add bias to any pointer twice. So, this patch instead builds a relocation table (sorted list of addresses in the blob which needs relocation) at PCH save time, stores it in a very compact form into the gch file and upon restore, adjusts pointers in GTY roots (that is right away in the root structures) and the addresses in the relocation table. The cost on stdc++.gch/O2g.gch (previously 85MB large) is about 3% file size growth, there are 2.5 million pointers that need relocation in the gch blob and the relocation table uses uleb128 for address deltas and needs ~1.01 bytes for one address that needs relocation, and about 20% compile time during PCH save (I think it is mainly because of the need to qsort those 2.5 million pointers). On PCH restore, if it doesn't need relocation (the usual case), it is just an extra fread of sizeof (size_t) data and fseek (in my tests real time on vanilla tree for #include <bits/stdc++.h> CU was ~0.175s and with the patch but no relocation ~0.173s), while if it needs relocation it took ~0.193s, i.e. 11.5% slower. Without PCH that #include <bits/stdc++.h> int i; testcase compiles with -O2 -g in ~1.199s, i.e. 6.2 times slower than PCH with relocation and 6.9 times than PCH without relocation. The discovery of the pointers in the blob that need relocation is done in the relocate_ptrs hook which does the pointer relocation during PCH save. Unfortunately, I had to make one change to the gengtype stuff due to the nested_ptr feature of GTY, which some libcpp headers and stringpool.c use. The relocate_ptrs hook had 2 arguments, pointer to the pointer and a cookie. When relocate_ptrs is done, in most cases it is called solely on the subfields of the current object, so e.g. if ((void *)(x) == this_obj) op (&((*x).u.fld[0].rt_rtx), cookie); so relocate_ptrs can assert that ptr_p is within the state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->obj .. state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->obj+state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->size-sizeof(void*) range and compute from that the address in the blob which will need relocation (state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->new_addr is the new address given to it and ptr_p-state->ptrs[state->ptrs_i]->obj is the relative offset. Unfortunately, for nested_ptr gengtype emits something like: { union tree_node * x0 = ((*x).val.node.node) ? CPP_HASHNODE (GCC_IDENT_TO_HT_IDENT ((x0))) : NULL; } so relocate_ptrs is called with an address of some temporary variable and so doesn't know where the pointer will finally be. So, I've added another argument to relocate_ptrs (and to gt_pointer_operator). For the most common case I pass NULL as the new middle argument to that function, first one remains pointer to the pointer that needs adjustment and last the cookie. The NULL seems to be cheap to compute and short in the gt*.[ch] files and stands for ptr_p is an address within the this_obj's range, remember its address. For the nested_ptr case, the new middle argument contains actual address of the pointer that might need to be relocated, so instead of the above op (&(x0), &((*x).val.node.node), cookie); in there. And finally, e.g. for the reorder case I need a way to tell restore_ptrs to ignore a particular address for the relocation purposes and only treat it the old way. I've used for that the case when the first and second arguments are equal. In order to enable support for mapping PCH as fallback at different addresses than the preferred ones, a small change is needed to the host pch_use_address hooks. One change I've done to all of them is the change of the type of the first argument from void * to void *&, such that the actual address can be told to the callers (or shall I instead use void **?), but another change that still needs to be done in them if they want the relocation is actually not fail if they couldn't get a preferred address, but instead modify what the first argument refers to. I've done that only for host-linux.c and Iain is testing similar change for host-darwin.c. Didn't change hpux, netbsd, openbsd, solaris, mingw32 or the fallbacks because I can't test those. This patch adds a lang hook for defining a struct/RECORD_TYPE “as if” it had appeared directly in the source code. It follows the similar existing hook for enums. It's the caller's responsibility to create the fields (as FIELD_DECLs) but the hook's responsibility to create and declare the associated RECORD_TYPE. For now the hook is hard-coded to do the equivalent of: typedef struct NAME { FIELDS } NAME; but this could be controlled by an extra parameter if some callers want a different behaviour in future. If an interface is marked 'deprecated' then, presumably, at some point it will be withdrawn and no longer available. The 'unavailable' attribute makes it possible to mark up interfaces to indicate this status. It is used quite extensively in some codebases where a single set of headers can be used to permit code generation for multiple system versions. From a configuration perspective, it also allows a compile test to determine that an interface is missing - rather than requiring a link test. The implementation follows the pattern of attribute deprecated, but produces an error (where deprecation produces a warning). This attribute has been implemented in clang for some years. 2021-09-01C: PR c/79412: Poison decls with error_mark_node after type mismatchRoger Sayle1-1/+12
This patch fixes an ICE during error-recovery regression in the C front-end. The symptom is that the middle-end's sanity checking assertions fail during gimplification when being asked to increment an array, which is non-sense. The issue is that the C-front end has detected the type mismatch and reported an error to the user, but hasn't provided any indication of this to the middle-end, simply passing bogus trees that the optimizers recognize as invalid. This appears to be a frequently reported ICE with 94730, 94731, 101036 and 101365 all marked as duplicates. I believe the correct (polite) fix is to mark the mismatched types as problematic/dubious in the front-end, when the error is spotted, so that the middle-end has a heads-up and can be a little more forgiving. This patch to c-decl.c's duplicate_decls sets (both) mismatched types to error_mark_node if they are significantly different, and we've issued an error message. Alas, this is too punitive for FUNCTION_DECLs where we store return types, parameter lists, parameter types and attributes in the type, but fortunately the middle-end is already more cautious about trusting possibly suspect function types. This fix required one minor change to the testsuite, typedef-var-2.c where after conflicting type definitions, we now no longer assume that the (first or) second definition is the correct one. When re-declaring a function with differing attributes DECL_USER_ALIGN is usually not merged/copied when DECL_ALIGN is similar. On s390 this will cause a warning message not to be shown. This adds support for the clang __builtin_shufflevector extension to the C and C++ frontends. The builtin is lowered to VEC_PERM_EXPR. Because VEC_PERM_EXPR does not support different sized vector inputs or result or the special permute index of -1 (don't-care) c_build_shufflevector applies lowering by widening inputs and output to the widest vector, replacing -1 by a defined index and subsetting the final vector if we produced a wider result than desired. 2020-11-19c, tree: Fix ICE from get_parm_array_spec [PR97860]Jakub Jelinek1-0/+2
The C and C++ FEs handle zero sized arrays differently, C uses NULL TYPE_MAX_VALUE on non-NULL TYPE_DOMAIN on complete ARRAY_TYPEs with bitsize_zero_node TYPE_SIZE, while C++ FE likes to set TYPE_MAX_VALUE to the largest value (and min to the lowest). Martin has used array_type_nelts in get_parm_array_spec where the function on the C form of [0] arrays returns error_mark_node and the code crashes soon afterwards. The following patch teaches array_type_nelts about this (e.g. dwarf2out already handles that as [0]). While it will change what is_empty_type returns for certain types (e.g. struct S { int a[0]; };), as those types occupy zero bits in C, it should make an ABI difference. In cleaning up C++'s handling of hidden decls, I renamed its DECL_BUILTIN_P, which checks for loc == BUILTINS_LOCATION to DECL_UNDECLARED_BUILTIN_P, because the location gets updated, if user source declares the builtin, and the predicate no longer holds. The original name was confusing me. (The builtin may still retain builtin properties in the redeclaration, and other predicates can still detect that.) I discovered that tree.h had its own variant 'DECL_IS_BUILTIN', which behaves in (almost) the same manner. And therefore has the same mutating behaviour. This patch deletes the C++ one, and renames tree.h's to DECL_IS_UNDECLARED_BUILTIN, to emphasize its non-constantness. I guess _IS_ wins over _P gcc/ * tree.h (DECL_IS_BUILTIN): Rename to ... 2020-06-05diagnostics: Consistently add fixit hint for implicit builtin declarationMark Wielaard1-3/+27
There are two warnings that might trigger when a builtin function is used but not declared yet. Both called through implicitly_declare in c-decl. The first in implicit_decl_warning does warn for builtins, but does not add a fixit hint for them (only for non-builtins when a header is suggested through lookup_name_fuzzy). This warning is guarded by -Wimplicit-function-declaration. The second warning, which does include a fixit hint if possible, is given when the implicit builtin declaration has an incompatible signature. This second warning cannot be disabled. This setup means that you only get a fixit-hint for usage of builtin functions where the implicit signature is different than the actual signature of the builtin. No fixit hints with header suggestions are ever generated for builtins like abs, isdigit or putchar. It seems more consistent to always generate a fixit-hint if possible for the -Wimplicit-function-declaration warning. And for the second warning to make it depend on -Wbuiltin-declaration-mismatch like other warnings about builtin declaration mismatches. Include a new test to show we get fixit-hints for abs, isdigit and putchar now. Some small tweaks to existing tests to show the effect of -Wno-builtin-declaration-mismatch with this change. And a testcase to show that #pragma GCC diagnostic ignored now works. gcc/c/ChangeLog: * c-decl.c (implicit_decl_warning): When warned and olddecl is an undeclared builtin, then add a fixit header hint, if found. 2020-04-30c: Fix ICE with _Atomic side-effect in nested fn param decls [PR94842]Jakub Jelinek1-4/+11
If there are _Atomic side-effects in the parameter declarations of non-nested function, when they are parsed, current_function_decl is NULL, the create_artificial_label created labels during build_atomic* are then adjusted by store_parm_decls through set_labels_context_r callback. Unfortunately, if such thing happens in nested function parameter declarations, while those decls are parsed current_function_decl is the parent function (and am not sure it is a good idea to temporarily clear it, some code perhaps should be aware it is in a nested function, or it can refer to variables from the parent function etc.) and that means store_param_decls through set_labels_context_r doesn't adjust anything. 2020-03-19c: Fix up cfun->function_end_locus from the C FE [PR94029]Jakub Jelinek1-2/+2
On the following testcase we ICE because while DECL_STRUCT_FUNCTION (current_function_decl)->function_start_locus = c_parser_peek_token (parser)->location; and similarly DECL_SOURCE_LOCATION (fndecl) is set from some token's location, the end is set as: /* Store the end of the function, so that we get good line number info for the epilogue. */ cfun->function_end_locus = input_location; and the thing is that input_location is only very rarely set in the C FE (the primary spot that changes it is the cb_line_change/fe_file_change). Which means, e.g. for pretty much all C functions that are on a single line, function_start_locus column is > than function_end_locus column, and the testcase even has smaller line in function_end_locus because cb_line_change isn't performed while parsing multi-line arguments of a function-like macro. Attached are two possible fixes to achieve what the C++ FE does, in particular that cfun->function_end_locus is the locus of the closing } of the function. The first one updates input_location when we see a closing } of a compound statement (though any, not just the function body) and thus input_location in the finish_function call is what we need. The second instead propagates the location_t from the parsing of the outermost compound statement (the function body) to finish_function. 2020-03-17c: Handle C_TYPE_INCOMPLETE_VARS even for ENUMERAL_TYPEs [PR94172]Jakub Jelinek1-23/+27
The following testcases ICE, because they contain extern variable declarations with incomplete enum types that is later completed and after that those variables are accessed. The ICEs are because the vars then may have incorrect DECL_MODE etc., e.g. in the first case the var has SImode DECL_MODE (the guessed mode for the enum), but the enum then actually has DImode because its enumerators don't fit into unsigned int. The following patch fixes it by using C_TYPE_INCOMPLETE_VARS not just on incomplete struct/union types, but also incomplete enum types. 2020-02-13c: Fix ICE with cast to VLA [93576]Jakub Jelinek1-5/+8
The following testcase ICEs, because the PR84305 changes try to evaluate the size earlier. If size has side-effects, that is desirable, and the side-effects will actually be wrapped in a SAVE_EXPR. The problem on this testcase is that there are no side-effects, and c_fully_fold doesn't fold those COMPOUND_EXPRs to constant, and while before gimplification we unshare trees found in the expressions, the unsharing doesn't involve TYPE_SIZE etc. of used types. Gimplification is destructive though, so when we gimplify the two nested COMPOUND_EXPRs and then try to gimplify it the second time for the TYPE_SIZEs, we ICE. Now, we could use unshare_expr in what we push to *expr, SAVE_EXPRs and their operands in there aren't unshared, but I really don't see a point of evaluating expressions that don't have side-effects before, so instead this just pushes there expressions that do have side-effects. 2020-02-13 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR c/93576 * c-decl.c (grokdeclarator): If this_size_varies, only push size into *expr if it has side effects. * gcc.dg/pr93576.c: New test.
2020-01-15Fix setting of DECL_CONTEXT in pushdecl (PR c/93072).Joseph Myers1-1/+1
Bug 93072 is a case where the C front end (a) wrongly interprets an inline declaration at block scope as indicating that DECL_CONTEXT should be set for an inline function and (b) this results in an ICE. This is a regression resulting from a previous fix of mine for other bugs involving such declarations being wrongly interpreted elsewhere as nested function declarations. The fix is similar to the previous fix: use TREE_PUBLIC instead of DECL_EXTERNAL in another place as the relevant test to determine whether to set DECL_CONTEXT. (When a variable reaches the code in question in pushdecl, the two are equivalent.) Bootstrapped with no regressions for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. GCC wrongly accepts [*] in old-style parameter definitions because because parm_flag is set on the scope used for those definitions and, unlike the case of a prototype in a function definition, there is no subsequent check to disallow this invalid usage.
