2020-11-20configury: Fix up --enable-link-serialization supportJakub Jelinek1-3/+3
Eric reported that the --enable-link-serialization changes seemed to cause the binaries to be always relinked, for example from the gcc/ directory of the build tree: make [relink of gnat1, brig1, cc1plus, d21, f951, go1, lto1, ...] make [relink of gnat1, brig1, cc1plus, d21, f951, go1, lto1, ...] Furthermore as reported in PR, it can cause problems during make install where make install rebuilds the binaries again. The problem is that for make .PHONY targets are just "rebuilt" always, so it is very much undesirable for the cc1plus$(exeext) etc. dependencies to include .PHONY targets, but I was using them - cc1plus.prev which would depend on some *.serial and e.g. cc1.serial depending on c and c depending on cc1$(exeext). The following patch rewrites this so that *.serial and *.prev aren't .PHONY targets, but instead just make variables. I was worried that the order in which the language makefile fragments are included (which is quite random, what order we get from the filesystem matching */config-lang.in) would be a problem but it seems to work fine - as it uses make = rather than := variables, later definitions are just fine for earlier uses as long as the uses aren't needed during the makefile parsing, but only in the dependencies of make targets and in their commands. 2020-11-20 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR other/97911 gcc/ * configure.ac: In SERIAL_LIST use lang words without .serial suffix. 2020-11-18configury: --enable-link-serialization supportJakub Jelinek1-7/+5
When performing LTO bootstraps, especially when using tmpfs for /tmp, one can run a machine to halt when using higher levels of parallelism and a large number of FEs, because there are too many concurrent LTO link commands running at the same time and each one of them puts most of the middle-end/backend objects into /tmp. We have --enable-link-mutex configure option, but --enable-link-mutex has a big problem that it decreases number of available jobs by the number of link commands waiting for the lock, so e.g. when doing make -j32 build with 11 different big programs linked with $(LLINKER) we end up with just 22 effective jobs, and with e.g. make -j8 with those 11 different big programs we actually most likely serialize everything during linking onto a single job. The following patch implements a new configure option, --enable-link-serialization, which implements different serialization and as it doesn't use the mutex, just modifying the old option to be implemented differently would be strange. We can deprecate and later remove the old option. The new option doesn't use any shell mutexes, but uses make dependencies. The option is implemented inside of gcc/ configure and Makefiles, which means that even inside of gcc/ make all (as well as e.g. make lto-dump) will serialize and build all previous large binaries when configured this way. One can always make -j32 cc1 DO_LINK_SERIALIZATION= to avoid that. Furthermore, I've implemented the idea I wrote about, so that --enable-link-serialization is the same as --enable-link-serialization=1 and means the large link commands are serialized, one can (the default) --disable-link-serialization which will cause all links to be parallelizable, but one can also --enable-link-serialization=3 etc. which says that at most 3 of the large link commands can run concurrently. And finally I've implemented (only if the serialization is enabled) simple progress bars for the linking. With --enable-link-serialization and e.g. the 5 large links I have in my current tree (cc1, cc1plus, f951, lto1 and lto-dump), before the linking it prints Linking |==-- | 20% and after it Linking |==== | 40% (each == characters stand for already finished links, each -- characters stand for the link being started). With --enable-link-serialization=3 it will change the way the start is printed, one will get: Linking |-- | 0% at the start of cc1 link, Linking |>>-- | 0% at the start of the second large link and Linking |>>>>-- | 0% at the start of the third large link, where the >> characters stand for already pending links. The printing at the end of link command is the same as with the full serialization, i.e. for the above 3: Linking |== | 20% Linking |==== | 40% Linking |====== | 60% but one could actually get them in any order depending on which of those 3 finishes first - to get it 100% accurate I'd need to add some directory with files representing finished links or similar, doesn't seem worth it. 2020-11-18 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> gcc/ * configure.ac: Add $lang.prev rules, INDEX.$lang and SERIAL_LIST and SERIAL_COUNT variables to Make-hooks. 2020-08-03Removal of HSA offloading from gcc and libgompMartin Jambor3-0/+1245
This patch removes the generation of HSAIL from the compiler, the HSA offloading plugin from libgomp and the associated testsuite tests and infrastructure bits from the respective testsuites. Apart from removal of the obvious files, I removed bits that I found by searching for HSA related terms and by re-tracing my steps and looking at the patches that introduced HSA in the first place. I did not remove everything these patches brought in, for example: - the mechanism to pass offload-target specific info from the application to the offloading plugin - but the same mechanism is also used to communicate number of teams and the thread limit to all offload targets. - run_func hook in gomp_device_descr stays too, although now it is not used. If some future offload target would like the ability to refuse to offload some functions, it can use it. It is easy to remove as a follow-up if it is considered clutter, though. - configure options --with-hsa-runtime=PATH, -with-hsa-runtime-include=PATH and --with-hsa-runtime-lib=PATH rmeain because GCN uses them too. - Surprisingly, GOMP_TARGET_ARG_HSA_KERNEL_ATTRIBUTES (a constant from gomp-constants.h) appears in the source of the amdgcn libgomp plugin, although I tend to think that code path is not ever used and this patch certainly removes it from the compiler. Nevertheless, it seems it has potential value beyond HSAIL and so I've kept it, it can of course always be easily removed in the future of GCN folk abandon it too. - I assume constants OFFLOAD_TARGET_TYPE_HSA and GOMP_DEVICE_HSA need to stay indefinitely too just so that no future offload target picks that number. - I have kept dg-require-effective-target offload_device_nonshared_as requirement of thests which have it. It is quite probable I missed some small HSA artifacts but those should be easy to remove later as we find them. include/ChangeLog: 2020-07-24 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> * gomp-constants.h (GOMP_VERSION_HSA): Remove. gcc/ChangeLog: 2020-07-24 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> * hsa-brig-format.h: Moved to brig/brigfrontend. * hsa-brig.c: Removed. * hsa-builtins.def: Likewise. * hsa-common.c: Likewise. * hsa-common.h: Likewise. * hsa-dump.c: Likewise. * hsa-gen.c: Likewise. * hsa-regalloc.c: Likewise. * ipa-hsa.c: Likewise. * omp-grid.c: Likewise. * omp-grid.h: Likewise. * Makefile.in (BUILTINS_DEF): Remove hsa-builtins.def. 2019-10-04Mark C2x built-in functions as such.Joseph Myers2-0/+5
Various built-in functions that GCC has as extensions are now standard functions in C2x. This patch adds DEF_C2X_BUILTIN and uses it to mark them as such. Some of the so-marked functions were previously DEF_EXT_LIB_BUILTIN, while some DFP ones were DEF_GCC_BUILTIN (i.e. __builtin_* only); both sets become DEF_C2X_BUILTIN. This in turn requires flag_isoc2x to be defined in various front ends using builtins.def. As the semantics of the built-in functions should already be tested, the tests added only verify that they are declared in C2x mode but not in C11 mode. The test of DFP built-in functions being declared for C2x goes in gcc.dg/dfp/, as while such built-in functions currently don't depend on whether DFP is supported, that looks like a bug to me (see bug 91985), so it seems best for the tests not to depend on exactly how that bug might be fixed. Bootstrapped with no regressions on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. gcc: * builtins.def (DEF_C2X_BUILTIN): New macro. (exp10, exp10f, exp10l, fabsd32, fabsd64, fabsd128, nand32) (nand64, nand128, roundeven, roundevenf, roundevenl, strdup) (strndup): Use DEF_C2X_BUILTIN. * coretypes.h (enum function_class): Add function_c2x_misc. gcc/ada: * gcc-interface/utils.c (flag_isoc2x): New variable. gcc/brig: * brig-lang.c (flag_isoc2x): New variable. gcc/lto: * lto-lang.c (flag_isoc2x): New variable. gcc/testsuite: * gcc.dg/c11-builtins-1.c, gcc.dg/c2x-builtins-1.c, gcc.dg/dfp/c2x-builtins-dfp-1.c: New tests. 2018-05-18Replace FMA_EXPR with one internal fn per optabRichard Sandiford2-2/+10
There are four optabs for various forms of fused multiply-add: fma, fms, fnma and fnms. Of these, only fma had a direct gimple representation. For the other three we relied on special pattern- matching during expand, although tree-ssa-math-opts.c did have some code to try to second-guess what expand would do. This patch removes the old FMA_EXPR representation of fma and introduces four new internal functions, one for each optab. IFN_FMA is tied to BUILT_IN_FMA* while the other three are independent directly-mapped internal functions. It's then possible to do the pattern-matching in match.pd and tree-ssa-math-opts.c (via folding) can select the exact FMA-based operation. The BRIG & HSA parts are a best guess, but seem relatively simple. 2018-05-18 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * doc/sourcebuild.texi (scalar_all_fma): Document. * tree.def (FMA_EXPR): Delete. * internal-fn.def (FMA, FMS, FNMA, FNMS): New internal functions. * internal-fn.c (ternary_direct): New macro. 2018-05-04[BRIGFE] phsa-specific optimizationsPekka Jääskeläinen16-761/+1114
Add flag -fassume-phsa that is on by default. If -fno-assume-phsa is given, these optimizations are disabled. With this flag, gccbrig can generate GENERIC that assumes we are targeting a phsa-runtime based implementation, which allows us to expose the work-item context accesses to retrieve WI IDs etc. which helps optimizers. First optimization that takes advantage of this is to get rid of the setworkitemid calls whenever we have non-inlined calls that use IDs internally. Other optimizations added in this commit: - expand absoluteid to similar level of simplicity as workitemid. At the moment absoluteid is the best indexing ID to end up with WG vectorization. - propagate ID variables closer to their uses. This is mainly to avoid known useless casts, which confuse at least scalar evolution analysis. - use signed long long for storing IDs. Unsigned integers have defined wraparound semantics, which confuse at least scalar evolution analysis, leading to unvectorizable WI loops. - also refactor some BRIG function generation helpers to brig_function. - no point in having the wi-loop as a for-loop. It's really a do...while and SCEV can analyze it just fine still. - add consts to ptrs etc. in BRIG builtin defs. Improves optimization opportunities. - add qualifiers to generated function parameters. Const and restrict on the hidden local/private pointers, the arg buffer and the context pointer help some optimizations. From-SVN: r259957

Getting some inlining happening in the finalized binary required: * explicitly marking the 'prog' scope functions and the launcher function "externally_visible" to avoid the inliner removing it * also the host_def ptr is set to externally visible, otherwise IPA assumes it's never set * adding the 'inline' keyword to functions to enable inlining, otherwise GCC defaults to replaceable functions (one can link over the previous one) which cannot be inlined * replacing all calls to declarations with calls to definitions to enable the inliner to find the definition * to fix missing hidden argument types in the generated functions. These were ignored silently until GCC started to be able to inline calls to such functions. * do not gimplify before fixing the call targets. Otherwise the calls get detached and the definitions are not found. The reason why this happens is not clear, but gimplifying only after call target decl->def conversion fixes this. From-SVN: r259943
2018-01-03poly_int: TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTSRichard Sandiford3-2/+10
This patch changes TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS to a poly_uint64. The value is encoded in the 10-bit precision field and was previously always stored as a simple log2 value. The challenge was to use this 10 bits to encode the number of elements in variable-length vectors, so that we didn't need to increase the size of the tree. In practice the number of vector elements should always have the form N + N * X (where X is the runtime value), and as for constant-length vectors, N must be a power of 2 (even though X itself might not be). The patch therefore uses the low 8 bits to encode log2(N) and bit 8 to select between constant-length and variable-length vectors. Targets without variable-length vectors continue to use the old scheme. A new valid_vector_subparts_p function tests whether a given number of elements can be encoded. This is false for the vector modes that represent an LD3 or ST3 vector triple (which we want to treat as arrays of vectors rather than single vectors). Most of the patch is mechanical; previous patches handled the changes that weren't entirely straightforward. 2018-01-03 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * tree.h (TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS): Turn into a function and handle polynomial numbers of units. segment variables. PRM specs defines function and module scope group segment variables as an experimental feature. However, PRM test suite uses and hcc relies on them. In addition, hcc assumes certain group variable layout in its dynamic group segment allocation code. We cannot have global group memory offsets if we want to both have kernel-specific group segment size and multiple kernels calling the same functions that use function scope group memory variables.
