We are initializing both the call graph node count and
the entry block count of the function with the head_count value
from the profile.
Count propagation algorithm may refine the entry block count
and we may end up with a case where the call graph node count
is set to zero but the entry block count is non-zero. That becomes
a problem because we have this code in execute_fixup_cfg:
profile_count num = node->count;
profile_count den = ENTRY_BLOCK_PTR_FOR_FN (cfun)->count;
bool scale = num.initialized_p () && !(num == den);
Here if num is 0 but den is not 0, scale becomes true and we
lose the counts in
if (scale)
bb->count = bb->count.apply_scale (num, den);
This is what happened in the issue reported in PR116743
(a 10% regression in MySQL HAMMERDB tests).
3d9e6767939e9658260e2506e81ec32b37cba041 made an improvement in
AutoFDO count propagation, which caused a mismatch between
the call graph node count (zero) and the entry block count (non-zero)
and subsequent loss of counts as described above.
The fix is to update the call graph node count once we've done count propagation.
Tested on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

Since diagnostic.h is included in over half of the sources, requiring to `#define INCLUDE_MEMORY`
does not make sense. Instead lets unconditionally include memory in system.h.
The majority of this patch is just removing `#define INCLUDE_MEMORY` from the sources which currently
have it.
This should also fix the mingw build issue but I have not tried it.
Bootstrapped and tested on x86_64-linux-gnu.

I've tried to build stage3 with
-Wleading-whitespace=blanks -Wtrailing-whitespace=blank -Wno-error=leading-whitespace=blanks -Wno-error=trailing-whitespace=blank
added to STRICT_WARN and that expectably resulted in about
2744 unique trailing whitespace warnings and 124837 leading whitespace
warnings when excluding *.md files (which obviously is in big part a
generator issue). Others from that are generator related, I think those
need to be solved later.
The following patch just fixes up the easy case (trailing whitespace),
which could be easily automated:
for i in `find . -name \*.h -o -name \*.cc -o -name \*.c | xargs grep -l '[ ]$' | grep -v testsuite/`; do sed -i -e 's/[ ]*$//' $i; done
I've excluded files which I knew are obviously generated or go FE.
Is there anything else we'd want to avoid the changes?
Due to patch size, I've split it between gcc/ part (this patch)
and rest (include/, libiberty/, libgcc/, libcpp/, libstdc++-v3/).

My forthcoming patches for PR other/116613 make much more use of
cloning of pretty_printers than before, so it makes sense as a
preliminary patch for the result of pretty_printer::clone to be a
std::unique_ptr, rather than add more manual uses of "delete".
On doing so, I noticed various other places where naked new/delete is
used for run-time configuration of diagnostics:
* the output format (text vs SARIF)
* client data hooks
* the option manager
* the URLifier
Hence this patch also makes use of std::unique_ptr and ::make_unique for
managing such client policy classes, and also for diagnostic_buffer's
per-format implementations.
Unfortunately we can't directly include <memory> in our internal headers
but instead any of our TUs that make use of std::unique_ptr must #define
INCLUDE_MEMORY before including system.h.
Hence the bulk of this patch is taken up with adding a define of
INCLUDE_MEMORY to hundreds of source files: everything that includes
diagnostic.h or pretty-print.h (and thus anything transitively such as
includers of lto-wrapper.h, c-tree.h, cp-tree.h and rtl-ssa.h).
Thanks to Gaius Mulley for the parts of the patch that regenerated the
m2 files.

auto-profile currently doesn't guarantee that it will set probabilities
on all edges because of zero basic block counts. Normally those edges
just have probabilities set by the preceding profile_estimate pass but
under -O0 profile_estimate pass doesn't run. The patch removes setting
of full_profile to true in auto-profile.
Tested on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

In PR 113476 we have discovered that ipcp_param_lattices is no longer
a POD and should be destructed. In a follow-up discussion it
transpired that their initialization done by memsetting their backing
memory to zero is also invalid because now any write there before
construction can be considered dead. Plus that having them in an
array is a little bit old-school and does not get the extra checking
offered by vector along with automatic construction and destruction
when necessary.
So this patch converts the array to a vector. That however means that
ipcp_param_lattices cannot be just a forward declared type but must be
known to all code that deals with ipa_node_params and thus to all code
that includes ipa-prop.h. Therefore I have moved ipcp_param_lattices
and the type it depends on to a new header ipa-cp.h which now
ipa-prop.h depends on. Because we have the (IMHO not a very wise)
rule that headers don't include what they need themselves, I had to
add inclusions of ipa-cp.h and sreal.h (on which it depends) to very
many files, which made the patch rather ugly.

Verifier checks have recently been strengthened to check that
all counts and probabilities are initialized. The checks fired
during autoprofiledbootstrap build and this patch fixes it.

This patch extends verifier to check that all probabilities and counts are
initialized if profile is supposed to be present. This is a bit complicated
by the posibility that we inline !flag_guess_branch_probability function
into function with profile defined and in this case we need to stop
verification. For this reason I added flag to cfg structure tracking this.
Bootstrapped/regtested x86_64-linux, comitted.

This bug was causing an assert in get_loop_body during
ipa-sra in autoprofiledbootstrap build since loops weren't

AutoFDO tries to promote and inline all indirect calls that were promoted
and inlined in the original binary and that are still hot. In the included
test case, the promotion results in a direct call that is a recursive call.
inline_call and optimize_inline_calls can't handle recursive calls at this stage.
Currently, inline_call fails with a segmentation fault.
This change leaves the indirect call alone if promotion will result in a recursive call.
Tested on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

param_early_inliner_max_iterations specifies the maximum number
of nested indirect inlining iterations performed by early inliner.
Normally, the default value is 1.
For AutoFDO this parameter was also used as the number of iteration for
its indirect call promotion loop and the default value was set to 10.
While it makes sense to have 10 in the indirect call promotion loop
(we want to make the IR match the profiled binary before actual annotation)
there is no reason to have a special default value for the
regular early inliner.
This change removes the special AutoFDO default value setting for
param_early_inliner_max_iterations while keeping 10 as the number of
iterations for the AutoFDO indirect call promotion loop.
This change improves a simple fibonacci benchmark in AutoFDO mode
by 15% on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.
Tested on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.
