2023-01-13Replace flag_strict_flex_arrays with DECL_NOT_FLEXARRAY in middle-end.Qing Zhao1-2/+0
We should not directly check flag_strict_flex_arrays in the middle end. Instead, check DECL_NOT_FLEXARRAY(array_field_decl) which is set by C/C++ FEs according to -fstrict-flex-arrays and the corresponding attribute attached to the array_field. As a result, We will lose the LEVEL information of -fstrict-flex-arrays in the middle end. -Wstrict-flex-arrays will not be able to issue such information. update the testing cases accordingly. gcc/ChangeLog: * attribs.cc (strict_flex_array_level_of): Move this function to ... * attribs.h (strict_flex_array_level_of): Remove the declaration. * gimple-array-bounds.cc (array_bounds_checker::check_array_ref): replace the referece to strict_flex_array_level_of with DECL_NOT_FLEXARRAY. * tree.cc (component_ref_size): Likewise. gcc/c/ChangeLog: * c-decl.cc (strict_flex_array_level_of): ... here. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gcc.dg/Warray-bounds-flex-arrays-1.c: Delete the level information from the message issued by -Wstrict-flex-arrays. * gcc.dg/Warray-bounds-flex-arrays-2.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Warray-bounds-flex-arrays-3.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Warray-bounds-flex-arrays-4.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Warray-bounds-flex-arrays-5.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Warray-bounds-flex-arrays-6.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Wstrict-flex-arrays-2.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Wstrict-flex-arrays-3.c: Likewise. * gcc.dg/Wstrict-flex-arrays.c: Likewise.

2022-12-06Update -Warray-bounds with -fstrict-flex-arrays.Qing Zhao1-0/+2
A. add the following to clarify the relationship between -Warray-bounds and the LEVEL of -fstrict-flex-array: By default, the trailing array of a structure will be treated as a flexible array member by '-Warray-bounds' or '-Warray-bounds=N' if it is declared as either a flexible array member per C99 standard onwards ('[]'), a GCC zero-length array extension ('[0]'), or an one-element array ('[1]'). As a result, out of bounds subscripts or offsets into zero-length arrays or one-element arrays are not warned by default. You can add the option '-fstrict-flex-arrays' or '-fstrict-flex-arrays=LEVEL' to control how this option treat trailing array of a structure as a flexible array member. when LEVEL<=1, no change to the default behavior. when LEVEL=2, additional warnings will be issued for out of bounds subscripts or offsets into one-element arrays; when LEVEL=3, in addition to LEVEL=2, additional warnings will be issued for out of bounds subscripts or offsets into zero-length arrays. B. change -Warray-bounds=2 to exclude its control on how to treat trailing arrays as flexible array members: '-Warray-bounds=2' This warning level also warns about the intermediate results of pointer arithmetic that may yield out of bounds values. This warning level may give a larger number of false positives and is deactivated by default. gcc/ChangeLog: * attribs.cc (strict_flex_array_level_of): New function. * attribs.h (strict_flex_array_level_of): Prototype for new function. * doc/invoke.texi: Update -Warray-bounds by specifying the impact from -fstrict-flex-arrays. 2022-10-07c++: Improve handling of foreigner namespace attributesJakub Jelinek1-1/+18
In some cases we want to look up or remove both standard attributes and attributes from gnu namespace but not others. This patch arranges for ATTR_NS of "" to stand for ATTR_NS NULL or "gnu", so that we don't need 2 separate calls, and introduces is_attribute_namespace_p function which allows testing the namespace of an attribute similar way. The patch also uses the new lookup_attribute overload and extra tests to avoid emitting weird warnings on foreign namespace attributes which we should just ignore (perhaps with a warning), but shouldn't imply any meaning to them just because they have a name matching some standard or gnu attribute name. 2022-10-07 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> gcc/ * attribs.h (is_attribute_namespace_p): New inline function. 2022-10-04attribs: Add overloads with namespace nameJakub Jelinek1-0/+38
I've discovered a problem with the way we handle scoped attributes. For declaration or type attributes for attributes we don't know anything about we just don't add them to the declarations or types, so later in the FEs and middle-end it is fine to use lookup_attribute etc. which just check the attribute name and not namespace because non-standard non-GNU attributes just won't show there. But in the case of attributes on statements, nothing has filtered out the unknown attributes, so with my earlier assume attribute patch e.g. c-c++-common/Wno-attributes-6.c test failed because it uses: [[vendor::assume(1 + 1 == 2)]]; with -Wno-attributes=vendor::assume and lookup_attribute ("assume", ) finds such attribute and handled it that way. So, for those cases, this patch introduces lookup_attribute and remove_attribute overloads which specify also the namespace. I think the fallthrough, hot, cold, likely, unlikely attribute handling will need to use the new APIs too, so that we don't handle msft::fallthrough attribute as something we'd know. 2022-10-04 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * attribs.h (remove_attribute): Declare overload with additional attr_ns argument. 2021-12-17attribs: Fix wrong error with -Wno-attribute=A::b [PR103649]Marek Polacek1-0/+2
My patch to implement -Wno-attribute=A::b caused a bogus error when parsing [[foo::bar(1, 2)]]; when -Wno-attributes=foo::bar was specified on the command line, because when we create a fake foo::bar attribute and insert it into our attribute table, it is created with max_length == 0 which doesn't allow any args. That is wrong -- we know nothing about the attribute, so we shouldn't require any specific number of arguments. And since unknown attributes can be rather complex (see for example omp::{directive,sequence}), we must skip parsing their arguments. To that end, I'm using max_length with value -2. Also let's not warn about things like [[vendor::assume(true)]]; because they may have some meaning (this is reminiscent of C++ Portable Assumptions). PR c/103649 gcc/ChangeLog: * attribs.c (handle_ignored_attributes_option): Create the fake attribute with max_length == -2. 2021-12-03x86: Speed up target attribute handling by using a cacheJakub Jelinek1-0/+1
The target attribute handling is very expensive and for the common case from x86intrin.h where many functions get implicitly the same target attribute, we can speed up compilation a lot by caching it. The following patches both create a single entry cache, where they cache for a particular target attribute argument list the resulting DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_TARGET and DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_OPTIMIZATION values from ix86_valid_target_attribute_p and use the cache if the args are the same as last time and we start either from NULL values of those, or from the recorded values for those from last time. Compiling a simple: #include <x86intrin.h> int i; testcase with ./cc1 -quiet -O2 -isystem include/ test.c takes on my WS without the patches ~0.392s and with either of the patches ~0.182s, i.e. roughly half the time as before. For ./cc1plus -quiet -O2 -isystem include/ test.c it is slightly worse, the speed up is from ~0.613s to ~0.403s. The difference between the 2 patches is that the first one uses copy_list while the second one uses a vec, so I think the second one has the advantage of creating less GC garbage. I've verified both patches achieve the same content of those DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_TARGET and DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_OPTIMIZATION nodes as before on x86intrin.h by doing debug_tree on those and comparing the stderr from without these patches to with these patches. 2021-12-03 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * attribs.h (simple_cst_list_equal): Declare. * attribs.c (simple_cst_list_equal): No longer static. * config/i386/i386-options.c (target_attribute_cache): New variable. 2021-11-24attribs: Fix ICEs on attributes starting with _ [PR103365]Jakub Jelinek1-3/+8
As the patch shows, we have quite a few asserts that we don't call lookup_attribute etc. with attr_name that starts with an underscore, to make sure nobody is trying to call it with non-canonicalized attribute name like "__cold__" instead of "cold". We canonicalize only attributes that start with 2 underscores and end with 2 underscores though. Before Marek's patch, that wasn't an issue, we had no attributes like "_foo" or "__bar_" etc., so lookup_scoped_attribute_spec would always return NULL for those and we wouldn't try to register them, look them up etc., just with -Wattributes would warn about them. But now, as the new testcases show, users can actually request such attributes to be ignored, and we ICE for those during register_scoped_attribute and when that is fixed, ICE later on when somebody uses those attributes because they will be looked up to find out that they should be ignored. So, the following patch instead of or in addition to, depending on how performance sensitive a particular spot is, checking that attribute doesn't start with underscore allows attribute names that start with underscore as long as it doesn't canonicalize (i.e. doesn't start and end with 2 underscores). In addition to that, I've noticed lookup_attribute_by_prefix was calling get_attribute_name twice unnecessarily, and 2 tests were running in c++98 mode with -std=c++98 -std=c++11 which IMHO isn't useful because -std=c++11 testing is done too when testing all language versions. 2021-11-24 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR middle-end/103365 * attribs.h (lookup_attribute): Allow attr_name to start with underscore, as long as canonicalize_attr_name returns false. 2021-11-10attribs: Implement -Wno-attributes=vendor::attr [PR101940]Marek Polacek1-4/+24
It is desirable for -Wattributes to warn about e.g. [[deprecate]] void g(); // typo, should warn However, -Wattributes also warns about vendor-specific attributes (that's because lookup_scoped_attribute_spec -> find_attribute_namespace finds nothing), which, with -Werror, causes grief. We don't want the -Wattributes warning for [[company::attr]] void f(); GCC warns because it doesn't know the "company" namespace; it only knows the "gnu" and "omp" namespaces. We could entirely disable warning about attributes in unknown scopes but then the compiler would also miss typos like [[company::attrx]] void f(); or [[gmu::warn_used_result]] int write(); so that is not a viable solution. A workaround is to use a #pragma: #pragma GCC diagnostic push #pragma GCC diagnostic ignored "-Wattributes" [[company::attr]] void f() {} #pragma GCC diagnostic pop but that's a mouthful and awkward to use and could also hide typos. In fact, any macro-based solution doesn't seem like a way forward. This patch implements -Wno-attributes=, which takes these arguments: company::attr company:: This option should go well with using @file: the user could have a file containing -Wno-attributes=vendor::attr1,vendor::attr2 and then invoke gcc with '@attrs' or similar. I've also added a new pragma which has the same effect: The pragma along with the new option should help with various static analysis tools. 2021-04-15c++: Tweak merging of vector attributes that affect type identity [PR98852]Richard Sandiford1-0/+1
<arm_neon.h> types are distinct from GNU vector types in at least their mangling. However, there used to be nothing explicit in the VECTOR_TYPE itself to indicate the difference: we simply treated them as distinct TYPE_MAIN_VARIANTs. This caused problems like the ones reported in PR95726. The fix for that PR was to add type attributes to the <arm_neon.h> types, in order to maintain the distinction between them and GNU vectors. However, this in turn caused PR98852, where cp_common_type would merge the type attributes from the two source types and attach the result to the common type. For example: unsigned vector with no attribute + signed vector with attribute X would get converted to: unsigned vector with attribute X That isn't what we want in this case, since X describes the mangling of the original type. But even if we dropped the mangling from X and worked it out from context, we would still have a situation in which the common type was provably distinct from both of the source types: it would take its <arm_neon.h>-ness from one side and its signedness from the other. I guess there are other cases where the common type doesn't match either side, but I'm not sure it's the obvious behaviour here. It's also different from GCC 10.1 and earlier, where the unsigned vector “won” in its original form. This patch instead merges only the attributes that don't affect type identity. For now I've restricted it to vector types, since we're so close to GCC 11, but it might make sense to use this elsewhere. I've tried to audit the C and target-specific attributes to look for other types that might be affected by this, but I couldn't see any. The closest was s390_vector_bool, but the handler for that attribute changes the type node and drops the attribute itself (*no_add_attrs = true). gcc/ PR c++/98852 * attribs.h (restrict_type_identity_attributes_to): Declare. * attribs.c (restrict_type_identity_attributes_to): New function. gcc/cp/ PR c++/98852 * typeck.c (merge_type_attributes_from): New function. 2021-04-15c: Don't drop vector attributes that affect type identity [PR98852]Richard Sandiford1-0/+2
However, this in turn caused PR98852, where c_common_type would unconditionally drop the attributes on the source types. This meant that: <arm_neon.h> vector + <arm_neon.h> vector had a GNU vector type rather than an <arm_neon.h> vector type. See https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=96377#c2 for Jakub's analysis of the history of this c_common_type code. TBH I'm not sure which case the build_type_attribute_variant code is handling, but I think we should at least avoid dropping attributes that affect type identity. I've tried to audit the C and target-specific attributes to look for other types that might be affected by this, but I couldn't see any. We are only dealing with: gcc_assert (code1 == VECTOR_TYPE || code1 == COMPLEX_TYPE || code1 == FIXED_POINT_TYPE || code1 == REAL_TYPE || code1 == INTEGER_TYPE); which excludes most affects_type_identity attributes. The closest was s390_vector_bool, but the handler for that attribute changes the type node and drops the attribute itself (*no_add_attrs = true). I put the main list handling into a separate function (remove_attributes_matching) because a later patch will need it for something else. gcc/ PR c/98852 * attribs.h (affects_type_identity_attributes): Declare. * attribs.c (remove_attributes_matching): New function. 2021-01-18analyzer: use "malloc" attributeDavid Malcolm1-0/+2
In dce6c58db87ebf7f4477bd3126228e73e4eeee97 msebor extended the "malloc" attribute to support user-defined allocator/deallocator pairs. This patch extends the "malloc" checker within -fanalyzer to use these attributes. It is based on an earlier patch: 'RFC: add "deallocated_by" attribute for use by analyzer' https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-patches/2020-October/555544.html which added a different attribute. The patch needed a lot of reworking to support multiple deallocators per allocator. My hope was that this would provide a minimal level of markup that would support library-checking without requiring lots of further markup. I attempted to use this to detect a memory leak within a Linux driver (CVE-2019-19078), by adding the attribute to mark these fns: extern struct urb *usb_alloc_urb(int iso_packets, gfp_t mem_flags); extern void usb_free_urb(struct urb *urb); where there is a leak of a "urb" on an error-handling path. Unfortunately I ran into the problem that there are various other fns that take "struct urb *" and the analyzer conservatively assumes that a urb passed to them might or might not be freed and thus stops tracking state for them. Hence this will only detect issues for the simplest cases (without adding another attribute). gcc/analyzer/ChangeLog: * analyzer.h (is_std_named_call_p): New decl. * diagnostic-manager.cc (path_builder::get_sm): New. 2013-11-19Factor unrelated declarations out of tree.h.Diego Novillo1-0/+40
This patch applies the rule that functions defined in FOO.c must be declared in FOO.h. One of the worst offenders in the code base is tree.h, unsurprisingly. The patch creates several new headers: attribs.h calls.h fold-const.h gcc-symtab.h print-rtl.h print-tree.h stmt.h stor-layout.h stringpool.h tree-nested.h tree-object-size.h varasm.h. Functions in each corresponding .c file got moved to those headers and others that already existed. I wanted to make this patch as mechanical as possible, so I made no attempt to fix problems like having build_addr defined in tree-inline.c. I left that for later. There were some declarations that I could not move out of tree.h because of header poisoning or the use of target macros. We forbid the inclusion of things like expr.h from FE files. While that's a reasonable idea, the FE file *still* manage to at expr.c functionality because the declarations they want to use were defined in tree.h. The affected files are builtins.h, emit-rtl.h and expr.h. If that functionality is allowed to be accessed from the FEs, then I will later move those functions out of expr.c into tree.c. I have moved these declarations to the bottom of tree.h so they are easy to identify later. There is a namespace collision with libcpp. The file gcc/symtab.c cannot use gcc/symtab.h because the #include command picks up libcpp/include/symtab.h first. So I named this file gcc-symtab.h for now. Finally, I added a new header to PLUGIN_HEADERS to account for the tree.h refactoring. I did not add all headers factored out of tree.h because it is unclear (and impossible to tell) what plugins need. This adds the one header used by the plugins in the testsuite. This will be changing quite dramatically as we progress with the header refactoring. This patch should offer some minimal incremental build advantages by reducing the size of tree.h. Changes that would otherwise affected tree.h, will now go to other headers which are less frequently included. * tree.h: Include fold-const.h. (aggregate_value_p): Moved to function.h.
