PR analyzer/103872 reports a failure of gcc.dg/analyzer/pr103526.c on
riscv64-unknown-elf-gcc. The issue is that I wrote the test on x86_64
where a memcpy in the test is optimized to a write to a read/write pair,
whereas due to alignment differences the analyzer can see it as a
memcpy call, revealing problems with the analyzer's implementation
of memcpy.
This patch reimplements region_model::impl_call_memcpy in terms of a
get_store_value followed by a set_value, fixing the issue.

This patch fixes various issues with how -fanalyzer handles "realloc"
seen when debugging PR analyzer/104369.
Previously it wasn't correctly copying over the contents of the old
buffer for the success-with-move case, leading to false
-Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value diagnostics.
I also noticed that -fanalyzer failed to properly handle "realloc" for
cases where the ptr's region had unknown dynamic extents, and an ICE
for the case where a tainted value is used as a realloc size argument.
This patch fixes these issues, including the false uninit diagnostics
seen in PR analyzer/104369.
gcc/analyzer/ChangeLog:
PR analyzer/104369
* engine.cc (exploded_graph::process_node): Use the node for any
diagnostics, avoiding ICE if a bifurcation update adds a
saved_diagnostic, such as for a tainted realloc size.
* region-model-impl-calls.cc
(region_model::impl_call_realloc::success_no_move::update_model):
Require the old pointer to be non-NULL to be able successfully
grow in place. Use model->deref_rvalue rather than maybe_get_region
to support the old pointer being symbolic.
(region_model::impl_call_realloc::success_with_move::update_model):
Likewise. Add a constraint that the new pointer != the old pointer.
Use a sized_region when setting the value of the new region.
Handle the case where we don't know the dynamic size of the old
region by marking the new region as unknown.
* sm-taint.cc (tainted_allocation_size::tainted_allocation_size):
Update assertion to also allow for MEMSPACE_UNKNOWN.

It turned out that the analyzer wasn't treating calloc regions
as zero-filled, due to binding_cluster::fill_region getting an
unknown value for the byte_size_size_sval, and thus
get_or_create_repeated_svalue returning an unknown_svalue, which
was then used to fill the region.
Fixed thusly.

When moving the -fanalyzer tests for -ftrivial-auto-var-init to the
"torture" subdirectory of gcc.dg/analyzer I noticed that -fanalyzer
wasn't always properly checking for initialization of return values.
The issue was that some "return" handling was using
region_model::copy_region to copy to the RESULT_DECL, and copy_region
wasn't checking for poisoned svalues.
This patch eliminates region_model::copy_region in favor of simply
doing a get_ravlue/set_value pair, fixing the issue.

GCC 12 has gained -Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value, and I'm
seeing various false positives from it due to region_model::get_lvalue
not properly handling BIT_FIELD_REF, and falling back to
using an UNKNOWN_REGION for them.

[PR104270]
GCC 12 has gained two features for dealing with uninitialized variables:
(a) a new -Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value warning within -fanalyzer
for interprocedural path-sensitive detection of ununit uses, and
(b) a new -ftrivial-auto-var-init option for mitigating some uses of
uninit variables
It turns out that using (b) was thwarting (a), as it led to -fanalyzer
seeing calls to IFN_DEFERRED_INIT, which -fanalyzer wasn't
special-casing, thus treating it as initializing the variables in
question, and thus silencing -Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value on
them.
invoke.texi says:
"GCC still considers an automatic variable that doesn't have an explicit
initializer as uninitialized, @option{-Wuninitialized} will still report
warning messages on such automatic variables."
and thus -Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value ought to as well.
This patch adds special-case handling to -fanalyzer for
IFN_DEFERRED_INIT, so that -fanalyzer will warn on uninit uses of
variables that are mitigated by -ftrivial-auto-var-init.
gcc/analyzer/ChangeLog:

When reviewing the output of -fanalyzer on PR analyzer/104224 I noticed
that despite very verbose paths, the diagnostic paths for
-Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value
don't show where the uninitialized memory is allocated.
This patch adapts and simplifies material from
"[PATCH 3/6] analyzer: implement infoleak detection"
https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-patches/2021-November/584377.html
in order to add region creation events for the pertinent region (whether
on the stack or heap).
For example, this patch extends:
malloc-1.c: In function 'test_40':
malloc-1.c:461:5: warning: use of uninitialized value '*p' [CWE-457] [-Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value]
461 | i = *p;
| ~~^~~~
'test_40': event 1
|
| 461 | i = *p;
| | ~~^~~~
| | |
| | (1) use of uninitialized value '*p' here
|
to:
malloc-1.c: In function 'test_40':
malloc-1.c:461:5: warning: use of uninitialized value '*p' [CWE-457] [-Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value]
461 | i = *p;

'test_40': events 1-2
|
| 460 | int *p = (int*)malloc(sizeof(int*));

| | |
| | (1) region created on heap here
| 461 | i = *p;
| | ~~~~~~
| | |
| | (2) use of uninitialized value '*p' here

and this helps readability of the resulting warnings, especially in
more complicated cases.

Mikael Morin spotted that I got the sense wrong when discarding
redundant constraints in
r12-6782-gc4b8f3730a80025192fdb485ad2535c165340e41.
Fixed as follows, which also moves the rejection of contradictory
constraints in range::add_bound to earlier, so that this code can
be self-tested.

PR analyzer/104159 describes an ICE attempting to convert a vector_cst,
which occurs when symbolically executing within a recursive call on:
_4 = BIT_FIELD_REF <w_3(D), 32, 0>;
_1 = VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR<T>(_4);
where the BIT_FIELD_REF leads to a get_or_create_cast from
VEC<long, 8> to VEC<unsigned 4>
which get_code_for_cast erroneously picks NOP_EXPR for the cast, leading
to a bogus input to the VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR.
This patch fixes the issue by giving up on attempts to cast symbolic
values of vector types, treating the result of such casts as unknowable.

PR analyzer/94362 reports a false positive from
-Wanalyzer-null-dereference seen when analyzing OpenSSL.
The root cause is that the analyzer's path feasibility checker
erroneously considers this to be feasible:
(R + 1 > 0) && (R < 0)
for int R (the return value from sk_EVP_PKEY_ASN1_METHOD_num),
whereas it's not satisfiable for any int R.
This patch makes the constraint manager try harder to reject
such combinations of conditions, fixing the false positive;
perhaps in the longer term we ought to use an SMT solver.

This patch adds a new __attribute__ ((tainted_args)) to the C/C++ frontends.
It can be used on function decls: the analyzer will treat as tainted
all parameters to the function and all buffers pointed to by parameters
to the function. Adding this in one place to the Linux kernel's
__SYSCALL_DEFINEx macro allows the analyzer to treat all syscalls as
having tainted inputs. This gives some coverage of system calls without
needing to "teach" the analyzer about "__user" - an example of the use
of this can be seen in CVE-2011-2210, where given:
SYSCALL_DEFINE5(osf_getsysinfo, unsigned long, op, void __user *, buffer,
unsigned long, nbytes, int __user *, start, void __user *, arg)
the analyzer will treat the nbytes param as under attacker control, and
can complain accordingly:
taint-CVE-2011-2210-1.c: In function 'sys_osf_getsysinfo':
taint-CVE-2011-2210-1.c:69:21: warning: use of attacker-controlled value
'nbytes' as size without upper-bounds checking [CWE-129] [-Wanalyzer-tainted-size]
69 | if (copy_to_user(buffer, hwrpb, nbytes) != 0)
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Additionally, the patch allows the attribute to be used on field decls:
specifically function pointers. Any function used as an initializer
for such a field gets treated as being called with tainted arguments.
An example can be seen in CVE-2020-13143, where adding
__attribute__((tainted_args)) to the "store" callback of
configfs_attribute:
struct configfs_attribute {
/* [...snip...] */
ssize_t (*store)(struct config_item *, const char *, size_t)
__attribute__((tainted_args));
/* [...snip...] */
};
allows the analyzer to see:
CONFIGFS_ATTR(gadget_dev_desc_, UDC);
and treat gadget_dev_desc_UDC_store as having tainted arguments, so that
it complains:
taint-CVE-2020-13143-1.c: In function 'gadget_dev_desc_UDC_store':
taint-CVE-2020-13143-1.c:33:17: warning: use of attacker-controlled value
'len + 18446744073709551615' as offset without upper-bounds checking [CWE-823] [-Wanalyzer-tainted-offset]
33 | if (name[len - 1] == '\n')
| ~~~~^~~~~~~~~

addition to -fanalyzer).

GCC 10 gained the "access" function and type attribute, which
optionally can take a size-index param:
https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Common-Function-Attributes.html
-fanalyzer in trunk (for GCC 12) has gained a -Wanalyzer-tainted-size to
complain about attacker-controlled size values, but this was only being
used deep inside the region-model code when handling the hardcoded known
behavior of certain functions (memset, IIRC).
This patch extends -Wanalyzer-tainted-size to also complain about
unsanitized attacker-controlled values being passed to function
parameters marked as a size via the "access" attribute.
Note that -fanalyzer-checker=taint is currently required in
addition to -fanalyzer to use this warning, due to scaling issues
(see bug 103533).

PR analyzer/102692 reports a false positive at -O2 from
-Wanalyzer-null-dereference on:
if (!p || q || !p->next)
At the gimple level, -O2 has converted the first || into bitwise or
controlling a jump:
_4 = _2 | _3;
if (_4 != 0)
and a recursive call has been converted to iteration. The analyzer hits
the symbolic value complexity limit whilst analyzing the iteration and
hits a case where _2 is (_Bool)1 (i.e. true) and _3 (i.e. q) is
UNKNOWN(_Bool).
There are two issues leading to the false positive; fixing either issue
fixes the false positive; this patch fixes both for good measure:
(a) The analyzer erronously treats bitwise ops on UNKNOWN(_Bool) as UNKNOWN,
even for case like (1 | UNKNOWN) where we know the result, leading to
bogus edges in the exploded graph. The patch fixes these cases.
(b) The state-handling code creates "UNKNOWN" symbolic values, as a way
to give up when symbolic expressions get too complicated, and in various
other cases. This makes sense when building the exploded graph, since
we want the analysis to terminate, but doesn't make sense when checking
the feasibility along a specific path, where we want precision. The patch
prevents all use of "unknown" symbolic values when performing feasibility
checking of a path (before it merely stopped doing complexity-checking),
by creating a unique placeholder_svalue instead.
This fixes the -Wanalyzer-null-dereference false positive.
Unfortunately, with GCC 12 there's also a false positive from
-Wanalyzer-use-of-uninitialized-value on this code, which is a separate
issue that the patch does not fix.

Whilst debugging PR analyzer/103546 (false +ve in flex-generated lexers)
I noticed that the analyzer was considering that writes through symbolic
pointers could be treated as clobbering static globals such as:
static YY_BUFFER_STATE * yy_buffer_stack = NULL;
even for such variables that never have their address taken.
This patch fixes this issue at least, so that the analyzer can preserve
knowledge of such globals on code paths with writes through symbolic
pointers.
It does not fix the false +ve in the lexer code.
gcc/analyzer/ChangeLog:
PR analyzer/103546
* store.cc (store::eval_alias_1): Refactor handling of decl
regions, adding a test for may_be_aliased, rejecting those for
which it returns false.

PR analyzer/103546
* gcc.dg/analyzer/aliasing-3.c: New test.

Now that GCC is compiled as C++11 there is no need to keep the C++03
implementation of gnu::unique_ptr.
This removes the unique-ptr.h header and replaces it with <memory> in
system.h, and changes the INCLUDE_UNIQUE_PTR macro to INCLUDE_MEMORY.
Uses of gnu::unique_ptr and gnu::move can be replaced with
std::unique_ptr and std::move. There are no uses of unique_xmalloc_ptr
or xmalloc_deleter in GCC.
gcc/analyzer/ChangeLog:
* engine.cc: Define INCLUDE_MEMORY instead of INCLUDE_UNIQUE_PTR.
gcc/c-family/ChangeLog:
* known-headers.cc: Define INCLUDE_MEMORY instead of
INCLUDE_UNIQUE_PTR.
* name-hint.h: Likewise.
(class name_hint): Use std::unique_ptr instead of gnu::unique_ptr.

Whilst debugging state explosions seen when enabling taint detection
with -fanalyzer (PR analyzer/103533), I noticed that constraint
manager instances could contain stray, redundant constants, such
as this instance:
constraint_manager:
equiv classes:
ec0: {(int)0 == [m_constant]‘0’}
ec1: {(size_t)4 == [m_constant]‘4’}
constraints:
where there are two equivalence classes, each just containing a
constant, with no constraints using them.
This patch makes constraint_manager::canonicalize more aggressive
about purging state, handling the case of purging a redundant
EC containing just a constant.
gcc/analyzer/ChangeLog:
PR analyzer/103533
* constraint-manager.cc (equiv_class::contains_non_constant_p):
New.
(constraint_manager::canonicalize): Call it when determining
redundant ECs.
(selftest::test_purging): New selftest.
(selftest::run_constraint_manager_tests): Likewise.
* constraint-manager.h (equiv_class::contains_non_constant_p):
New decl.
