gdb does not need the name of XUB types. This patch changes the
compiler to omit these names from the DWARF when minimal encodings are
in use.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* gcc-interface/decl.cc (gnat_to_gnu_entity): Set TYPE_NAMELESS on
XUB types.
|
|
This adds an 'artificial_p' parameter to build_unc_object_type, so
that the artificiality of the type can be propagated to
create_type_decl. This will affect the namelessness of the type in a
subsequent patch.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* gcc-interface/decl.cc (gnat_to_gnu_entity): Pass artificial_p to
build_unc_object_type.
* gcc-interface/gigi.h (build_unc_object_type): Update.
* gcc-interface/utils.cc (build_unc_object_type) Add artificial_p
parameter.
(build_unc_object_type_from_ptr): Update.
|
|
This changes gigi so that standard types are no longer marked
artificial. This change is needed to prevent subsequent patches from
causing standard types to have their names elided. Also, although
DWARF says that DW_AT_artificial is used for "the declaration of an
object or type artificially generated by a compiler and not explicitly
declared by the source program", it seems to me that types provided by
the language should not be marked as such; and this is what the C and
C++ compilers do.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* gcc-interface/decl.cc (is_artificial): New function.
(gnat_to_gnu_entity): Use it.

If an actual parameter that is a type conversion is passed by reference but
not addressable, the temporary that is created and whose address is passed
instead may need to be in the target type of the conversion to fulfill the
requirements of strict aliasing.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* gcc-interface/trans.cc (Call_to_gnu): If the formal is passed by
reference and the actual is a type conversion but not addressable,
create the temporary in the target type of the conversion if this
is needed to enforce strict aliasing.
|
|
The problem occurs when the component type is a record type with default
values for the initialization procedure of the (base) array type, because
the compiler is trying to generate a full access for a parameter of the
base array type, which does not make sense.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
PR ada/116551
* gcc-interface/trans.cc (node_is_atomic) <N_Identifier>: Return
false if the type of the entity is an unconstrained array type.
(node_is_volatile_full_access) <N_Identifier>: Likewise.

Self-referential with_clauses (as in package body X says "with X;")
cause trouble, such as duplicate nested instantiations when using
container packages. This patch disables most of the processing by
setting the Is_Implicit_With flag. It's not really implicit, but the
subsequent processing behaves as if it is, and coming up with a more
accurate (and much longer) name for the flag doesn't seem beneficial for
such an obscure case. Note that the spec of X will be processed later,
rather than upon seeing "with X;".
Other cleanups, such as renaming Implicit_With to be Is_Implicit_With.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* sem_ch10.adb: (Analyze_With_Clause): Check for self-referential
with clause. Give a warning, and set Is_Implicit_With, which we
are reusing in this obscure case even though it's not really
implicit.
(Analyze_Context): Remove check for self-referential with clause.
It wasn't correct -- it only triggered for Acts_As_Spec
subprograms. Corrected check is now in Analyze_With_Clause.
(Implicit_With): Rename to be Is_Implicit_With. Misc cleanup,
comment fixes.
(Process_Spec_Clauses): Remove default for Exit_On_Self parameter.
Use "exit when" instead of if statement.
* sinfo.ads (Implicit_With): Rename to be Is_Implicit_With.
Document new use for self-referential withs.
* ali.adb (Scan_ALI): Use an aggregate to initialize Withs entry.
* exp_put_image.adb (Preload_Root_Buffer_Type): Make this a
once-only procedure.
* sem_util.ads (Is_Ancestor_Package): Fix comment -- a libraryunit
is an ancestor of itself, but this doesn't return True in that
case.
* sem_util.adb (Is_Ancestor_Package): Better to initialize things
on their declaration.
* lib-load.adb: Minor comment fix.
* sem_prag.adb: Implicit_With --> Is_Implicit_With. Minor comment
fix.
* gen_il-fields.ads: Implicit_With --> Is_Implicit_With.

This changes the Ada compiler to emit DWARF information for Ada 'with'
and 'use' clauses. In particular, code like:
with Pck; use Pck;
will be emitted as:
<1><146a>: Abbrev Number: 23 (DW_TAG_module)
<146b> DW_AT_name : pck
<146f> DW_AT_decl_file : 1
<1470> DW_AT_decl_line : 16
<1471> DW_AT_decl_column : 6
<1><1472>: Abbrev Number: 24 (DW_TAG_imported_module)
<1473> DW_AT_decl_file : 1
<1474> DW_AT_decl_line : 16
<1475> DW_AT_decl_column : 11
<1476> DW_AT_import : <0x146a>
That is, DW_TAG_module is used to represent a 'with' clause, and
DW_TAG_imported_module is used to represent 'use'.
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* gcc-interface/trans.cc (namespace_map): New global.
(Compilation_Unit_to_gnu): Also handle N_With_Clause and
N_Use_Package_Clause.
(get_or_create_namespace, get_namespace): New functions.
(gnat_to_gnu) <N_Package_Renaming_Declaration>: Call
get_namespace.
<N_Use_Package_Clause, N_With_Clause>: Likewise.

My forthcoming patches for PR other/116613 make much more use of
cloning of pretty_printers than before, so it makes sense as a
preliminary patch for the result of pretty_printer::clone to be a
std::unique_ptr, rather than add more manual uses of "delete".
On doing so, I noticed various other places where naked new/delete is
used for run-time configuration of diagnostics:
* the output format (text vs SARIF)
* client data hooks
* the option manager
* the URLifier
Hence this patch also makes use of std::unique_ptr and ::make_unique for
managing such client policy classes, and also for diagnostic_buffer's
per-format implementations.
Unfortunately we can't directly include <memory> in our internal headers
but instead any of our TUs that make use of std::unique_ptr must #define
INCLUDE_MEMORY before including system.h.
Hence the bulk of this patch is taken up with adding a define of
INCLUDE_MEMORY to hundreds of source files: everything that includes
diagnostic.h or pretty-print.h (and thus anything transitively such as
includers of lto-wrapper.h, c-tree.h, cp-tree.h and rtl-ssa.h).
Thanks to Gaius Mulley for the parts of the patch that regenerated the
m2 files.

This patch introduces a GNAT extension that adds a new aspect,
External_Initialization. A section is added to the reference
manual with a description of what the aspect does.
The implementation reuses existing mechanisms, in particular
Sinput.L.Load_Source_File and Sem_Res.Set_String_Literal_Subtype.
A new node kind is added, and nodes of that type are present in what
is passed to the back ends. That makes it necessary to update the back
ends to handle the new node type. The C interface is extended to make
that possible.

This polishes a few rough edges that prevent -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero
from working in Ada:
- build_common_builtin_nodes declares BUILT_IN_CLEAR_PADDING with 3
instead 2 parameters, now gimple_fold_builtin_clear_padding contains
the assertion:
gcc_assert (gimple_call_num_args (stmt) == 2)
This causes gimple_builtin_call_types_compatible_p to always return false
in Ada (this works in C/C++ because another declaration is used).
- gimple_add_init_for_auto_var uses EXPR_LOCATION to fetch the location
of a DECL node, which always returns UNKNOWN_LOCATION.
- the machinery attempts to initialize Out parameters.
gcc/
PR middle-end/116933
* gimplify.cc (gimple_add_init_for_auto_var): Use the correct macro

The documentation of gfortran options uses @code wrappings for arguments
to @opindex. This is superfluous, as 'op' index is a texinfo 'code' index,
that is it already implicitly formats its arguments as if in a @code block.
The superfluous wrapping has the effect of creating a nested
<code class="..."> tag inside the regular automatic <code> tag, in the
option index HTML page, preventing the recognition of the corresponding
option by the option URL generation script.
This change removes those superfluous @code wrappings. Additionally,
variables appearing as separate argument in index are removed, permitting
a few more URL recognition. Finally, the URL files are regenerated with the
new URLs recognized on the updated HTML files.
By the way, a spurious 'option' is removed from the label of the std= option
in the index, without any effect on URL recognition.

The initial implementation of the GNAT aspect/pragma Volatile_Full_Access
made it incompatible with Atomic, because it was not decided whether the
read-modify-write sequences generated by Volatile_Full_Access would need
to be implemented atomically when Atomic was also specified, which would
have required a compare-and-swap primitive from the target architecture.
But Ada 2022 introduced Full_Access_Only and retrofitted it into Atomic
in the process, answering the above question by the negative, so the
incompatibility between Volatile_Full_Access and Atomic was lifted in
Ada 2012 as well, unfortunately without adjusting the implementation.

We suffer from an inconsistency in the names of uninstalled gnattools
executables in cross-compiler configurations. The cause is a recipe we
have:
ada.all.cross:
for tool in $(ADA_TOOLS) ; do \
if [ -f $$tool$(exeext) ] ; \
then \
$(MV) $$tool$(exeext) $$tool-cross$(exeext); \
fi; \
done
the intent of which is to give the names of gnattools executables the
'-cross' suffix, consistently with the compiler drivers: 'gcc-cross',
'g++-cross', etc.
A problem with the recipe is that this 'make' target is called too early
in the build process, before gnattools have been made. Consequently no
renames happen and owing to that they are conditional on the presence of
the individual executables the recipe succeeds doing nothing.
However if a target is requested later on such as 'make pdf' that does
not cause gnattools executables to be rebuilt, then 'ada.all.cross' does
succeed in renaming the executables already present in the build tree.
Then if the 'gnat' testsuite is run later on which expects non-suffixed
'gnatmake' executable, it does not find the 'gnatmake-cross' executable
in the build tree and may either catastrophically fail or incorrectly
use a system-installed copy of 'gnatmake'.
Of course if a target is requested such as `make all' that does cause
gnattools executables to be rebuilt, then both suffixed and non-suffixed
uninstalled executables result.
Fix the problem by moving the renaming of gnattools to a separate 'make'
recipe, pasted into a new 'gnattools-cross-mv' target and the existing
legacy 'cross-gnattools' target. Then invoke the new target explicitly
from the 'gnattools-cross' recipe in gnattools/.
Update the test harness accordingly, so that suffixed gnattools are used
in cross-compilation testsuite runs.

When make_type_from_size is called with a biased type, for an entity
that isn't explicitly biased, we may refrain from reusing the given
type because it doesn't seem to match, and then proceed to create an
exact copy of that type.
Compute earlier the biased status of the expected type, early enough
for the suitability check of the given type. Modify for_biased
instead of biased_p, so that biased_p remains with the given type's
status for the comparison.
Avoid creating unnecessary copies of types in make_type_from_size, by
caching and reusing previously-created identical types, similarly to
the caching of packable types.
While at that, fix two vaguely related issues:
- TYPE_DEBUG_TYPE's storage is shared with other sorts of references
to types, so it shouldn't be accessed unless
TYPE_CAN_HAVE_DEBUG_TYPE_P holds.
- When we choose the narrower/packed variant of a type as the main
debug info type, we fail to output its name if we fail to follow debug
type for the TYPE_NAME decl type in modified_type_die.

We used to use an unsigned 128-bit type to hold the numerator and
denominator used to represent the delta of a fixed-point type in debug
information, but there are cases in which that was not enough, and
more significant bits silently overflowed and got omitted from debug
information.
Introduce a mode in which UI_to_gnu selects a wide-enough unsigned
type, and use that to convert numerator and denominator. While at
that, avoid exceeding the maximum precision for wide ints, and for
available int modes, when selecting a type to represent very wide
constants, falling back to 0/0 for unrepresentable fractions.

... implement support for ordering comparisons of discrete array types.
This extends the Support_Composite_Compare_On_Target feature to ordering
comparisons of discrete array types as specified by RM 4.5.2(26/3), when
the component type is a byte (unsigned).
Implement support for ordering comparisons of discrete array types

This reverts commit ea5c9f25241ae0658180afbcad7f4e298352f561.

|
This set of changes is aimed at streamlining the code generated for the
elaboration of local tagged types. The dispatch tables and other related
data structures are built dynamically on the stack for them and a few of
the patterns used for this turn out to be problematic for the optimizer:
1. the array of primitives in the dispatch table is default-initialized to
null values by calling the initialization routine of an unconstrained
array type, and then immediately assigned an aggregate made up of the
same null values.
2. the external tag is initialized by means of a dynamic concatenation
involving the secondary stack, but all the elements have a fixed size.
3. the _size primitive is saved in the TSD by means of the dereference of
the address of the TSD that was previously saved in the dispatch table.
gcc/ada/
* Makefile.rtl (GNATRTL_NONTASKING_OBJS): Add s-imad32$(objext),
s-imad64$(objext) and s-imagea$(objext).
* exp_atag.ads (Build_Set_Size_Function): Replace Tag_Node parameter
with Typ parameter.
* exp_atag.adb: Add clauses for Sinfo.Utils.
(Build_Set_Size_Function): Retrieve the TSD object statically.
* exp_disp.adb: Add clauses for Ttypes.
(Make_DT): Call Address_Image{32,64] instead of Address_Image.
(Register_Primitive): Pass Tag_Typ to Build_Set_Size_Function.
* rtsfind.ads (RTU_Id): Remove System_Address_Image and add
System_Img_Address_{32;64}.
(RE_Id): Remove entry for RE_Address_Image and add entries for
RE_Address_Image{32,64}.
* rtsfind.adb (System_Descendant): Adjust to above changes.
* libgnat/a-tags.ads (Address_Array): Suppress initialization.
* libgnat/s-addima.adb (System.Address_Image): Call the appropriate
routine based on the address size.

We create a distinct type for each field in a packed record with a
gnu_size, but there is no distinct debug information for them. Use
the same unpacked type for debug information.
for gcc/ada/ChangeLog
* gcc-interface/decl.cc (gnat_to_gnu_field): Use unpacked type
as the debug type for packed fields.
for gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog
* gnat.dg/bias1.adb: Count occurrences of -7.*DW_AT_GNU_bias.

Joseph pointed out "floating types should have their mode,
not a poorly defined precision value" in the discussion[1],
as he and Richi suggested, the existing macros
{FLOAT,{,LONG_}DOUBLE}_TYPE_SIZE will be replaced with a
hook mode_for_floating_type. To be prepared for that, this
patch is to replace use of LONG_DOUBLE_TYPE_SIZE in ada
with TYPE_PRECISION of long_double_type_node.
[1] https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-patches/2024-May/651209.html
gcc/ada/ChangeLog:
* gcc-interface/decl.cc (gnat_to_gnu_entity): Use TYPE_PRECISION of
long_double_type_node to replace LONG_DOUBLE_TYPE_SIZE.

They are implemented by the nonbinary_modular_operation routine, which is
complex and, in particular, creates signed types and types with a partial
precision each time a subtraction or a multiplication resp. is generated.
Both are unnecessary and a simple approach even generates better code for
the subtraction on architectures with conditional moves.
gcc/ada/
* gcc-interface/utils2.cc (nonbinary_modular_operation): Rewrite.
Do not create signed types for subtraction, do not create types with
partial precision, call fold_convert instead of convert throughout.

This changes the test to use the Is_Base_Type predicate and also removes the
superfluous call to Base_Type before First_Subtype. No functional changes.
gcc/ada/
* gcc-interface/decl.cc (gnat_to_gnu_entity): Use the Is_Base_Type
predicate and remove superfluous calls to Base_Type.
