This patch:
- converts "struct diagnostic_context" to "class diagnostic_context".
- ensures all data members have an "m_" prefix, except for "printer",
which has so many uses that renaming would be painful.
- makes most of the data members private
- converts much of the diagnostic_* functions to member functions of
diagnostic_context, adding compatibility wrappers for users such as
the Fortran frontend, and making as many as possible private.
No functional change intended.

Recent Darwin versions place contraints on the use of run paths
specified in environment variables. This breaks some assumptions
in the GCC build.
This change allows the user to configure a Darwin build to use
'@rpath/libraryname.dylib' in library names and then to add an
embedded runpath to executables (and libraries with dependents).
The embedded runpath is added by default unless the user adds
'-nodefaultrpaths' to the link line.
For an installed compiler, it means that any executable built with
that compiler will reference the runtimes installed with the
compiler (equivalent to hard-coding the library path into the name
of the library).
During build-time configurations any "-B" entries will be added to
the runpath thus the newly-built libraries will be found by exes.
Since the install name is set in libtool, that decision needs to be
available here (but might also cause dependent ones in Makefiles,
so we need to export a conditional).
This facility is not available for Darwin 8 or earlier, however the
existing environment variable runpath does work there.
We default this on for systems where the external DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH
does not work and off for Darwin 8 or earlier. For systems that can
use either method, if the value is unset, we use the default (which
is currently DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH).
ChangeLog:
* configure: Regenerate.
* configure.ac: Do not add default runpaths to GCC exes
when we are building -static-libstdc++/-static-libgcc (the
default).
* libtool.m4: Add 'enable-darwin-at-runpath'. Act on the
enable flag to alter Darwin libraries to use @rpath names.

This patch introduces an optional hardening pass to catch unexpected
execution flows. Functions are transformed so that basic blocks set a
bit in an automatic array, and (non-exceptional) function exit edges
check that the bits in the array represent an expected execution path
in the CFG.
Functions with multiple exit edges, or with too many blocks, call an
out-of-line checker builtin implemented in libgcc. For simpler
functions, the verification is performed in-line.
-fharden-control-flow-redundancy enables the pass for eligible
functions, --param hardcfr-max-blocks sets a block count limit for
functions to be eligible, and --param hardcfr-max-inline-blocks
tunes the "too many blocks" limit for in-line verification.
-fhardcfr-skip-leaf makes leaf functions non-eligible.
Additional -fhardcfr-check-* options are added to enable checking at
exception escape points, before potential sibcalls, hereby dubbed
returning calls, and before noreturn calls and exception raises. A
notable case is the distinction between noreturn calls expected to
throw and those expected to terminate or loop forever: the default
setting for -fhardcfr-check-noreturn-calls, no-xthrow, performs
checking before the latter, but the former only gets checking in the
exception handler. GCC can only tell between them by explicit marking
noreturn functions expected to raise with the newly-introduced
expected_throw attribute, and corresponding ECF_XTHROW flag.

When using bit-packed arrays, the compiler creates new array subtypes of
1-bit component indexed by integers. The existing routine checks the
index subtype to find the min/max values. Bit-packed arrays being
indexed by integers, the routines gives up as returning the maximum
possible integer carries no useful information.
This change adds a simple max_value routine that can evaluate very
simple expressions by substituting variables by their min/max value.
Bit-packed array subtypes are currently declared as:
subtype bp_array is packed_bytes1 (0 .. integer((1 * Var + 7) / 8 - 1));
The simple max_value evaluator handles the bare minimum for this
expression pattern.

The only current user of va_gc_atomic is Ada's:
vec<Entity_Id, va_gc_atomic>
It uses the generic gt_pch_nx routines (with gt_pch_nx being the
“note pointers” hooks), such as:
template<typename T, typename A>
void
gt_pch_nx (vec<T, A, vl_embed> *v)
{
extern void gt_pch_nx (T &);
for (unsigned i = 0; i < v->length (); i++)
gt_pch_nx ((*v)[i]);
}
It then defines gt_pch_nx routines for Entity_Id &.
The problem is that if we wanted to take the same approach for
an array of unsigned ints, we'd need to define:
inline void gt_pch_nx (unsigned int &) { }
which would then be ambiguous with:
inline void gt_pch_nx (unsigned int) { }
The point of va_gc_atomic is that the elements don't need to be GCed,
and so we have:
template<typename T>
void
gt_ggc_mx (vec<T, va_gc_atomic, vl_embed> *v ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED)
{
/* Nothing to do. Vectors of atomic types wrt GC do not need to
be traversed. */
}
I think it's therefore reasonable to assume that no pointers will
need to be processed for PCH either.
The patch also relaxes the array_slice constructor for vec<T, va_gc> *
so that it handles all embedded vectors.
gcc/

[ This is my third attempt to add this configure option. The first
version was approved but it came too late in the development cycle.
The second version was also approved, but I had to revert it:
<https://gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc-patches/2022-November/607082.html>.
I've fixed the problem (by moving $(PICFLAG) from INTERNAL_CFLAGS to
ALL_COMPILERFLAGS). Another change is that since r13-4536 I no longer
need to touch Makefile.def, so this patch is simplified. ]
This patch implements the --enable-host-pie configure option which
makes the compiler executables PIE. This can be used to enhance
protection against ROP attacks, and can be viewed as part of a wider
trend to harden binaries.
It is similar to the option --enable-host-shared, except that --e-h-s
won't add -shared to the linker flags whereas --e-h-p will add -pie.
It is different from --enable-default-pie because that option just
adds an implicit -fPIE/-pie when the compiler is invoked, but the
compiler itself isn't PIE.
Since r12-5768-gfe7c3ecf, PCH works well with PIE, so there are no PCH
regressions.
When building the compiler, the build process may use various in-tree
libraries; these need to be built with -fPIE so that it's possible to
use them when building a PIE. For instance, when --with-included-gettext
is in effect, intl object files must be compiled with -fPIE. Similarly,
when building in-tree gmp, isl, mpfr and mpc, they must be compiled with
-fPIE.
With this patch and --enable-host-pie used to configure gcc:

Normally, GCC executables are built with -static-libstdc++ -static-libgcc
on Darwin. This is fine in most cases, because GCC executables typically
do no use exceptions. However gnat1 does use exceptions and also pulls
in system libraries that are linked against the installed shared libgcc
which contains the system unwinder. This means that gnat1 effectively has
two unwinder instances (which does not work reliably since the unwinders
have global state).
A recent change in the initialization of FDEs has made this a hard error
now on Darwin versions (8 and 9) with libgcc installed in /usr/lib (gnat1
now hangs when an exception is thrown).
The solution is to link libgcc dynamically, picking up the installed
system version. To do this we strip -static-libgcc from the link flags.

This implements elision of the copy operation for extended return statements
in the case of nonlimited by-reference types (the copy operation is already
elided for limited types by the front-end and nonlimited non-by-reference
types by the code generator), which comprise controlled and tagged types.
The implementation partly reuses the machinery implemented for limited types
(the build-in-place machinery) to allocate the return object directly on the
primary or the secondary stack, depending on whether the result type of the
function is constrained or not.
This requires further special-casing for the allocators generated by this
machinery as well as an adjustment to the implementation of a specific case
of string concatenation.
