This patch changes block::get_using to return an iterator range. This seemed cleaner to me than the current approach of returning a pointer to the first using directive; all the callers actually use this to iterate.

Now that defs.h, server.h and common-defs.h are included via the `-include` option, it is no longer necessary for source files to include them. Remove all the inclusions of these files I could find. 2024-01-28Use domain_search_flags in lookup_symbol et alTom Tromey1-12/+12
This changes lookup_symbol and associated APIs to accept domain_search_flags rather than a domain_enum. Note that this introduces some new constants to Python and Guile. I chose to break out the documentation patch for this, because the internals here do not change until a later patch, and it seemed simpler to patch the docs just once, rather than twice.

This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.
2023-10-10gdb: remove target_gdbarchSimon Marchi1-1/+2
This function is just a wrapper around the current inferior's gdbarch. I find that having that wrapper just obscures where the arch is coming from, and that it's often used as "I don't know which arch to use so I'll use this magical target_gdbarch function that gets me an arch" when the arch should in fact come from something in the context (a thread, objfile, symbol, etc). I think that removing it and inlining `current_inferior ()->arch ()` everywhere will make it a bit clearer where that arch comes from and will trigger people into reflecting whether this is the right place to get the arch or not. 2019-07-10Don't include gdbarch.h from defs.hTom Tromey1-0/+1
I touched symtab.h and was surprised to see how many files were rebuilt. I looked into it a bit, and found that defs.h includes gdbarch.h, which in turn includes many things. gdbarch.h is only needed by a minority ofthe files in gdb, so this patch removes the include from defs.h and updates the fallout. I did "wc -l" on the files in build/gdb/.deps; this patch reduces the line count from 139935 to 137030; so there are definitely future build-time savings here. Note that while I configured with --enable-targets=all, it's possible that some *-nat.c file needs an update. I could not test all of these. 2019-04-06Revert the header-sorting patchTom Tromey1-5/+3
Andreas Schwab and John Baldwin pointed out some bugs in the header sorting patch; and I noticed that the output was not correct when limited to a subset of files (a bug in my script). So, I'm reverting the patch. This patch sorts the include files for the files [a-f]*.[chyl]. The patch was written by a script. Tested by the buildbot. This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

Given two or more modules that import each other's scope, the current symbol lookup routines would go round in circles looking through each import from each module, possibly checking the same module twice or more until all possible paths are marked as "searched". Note: I needed to split this patch in two, otherwise it's too big for the mailing list. This patch adds explicit casts to situations where a void pointer is assigned to a pointer to the "real" type. Building in C++ mode requires those assignments to use an explicit cast. This includes, for example: - callback arguments (cleanups, comparison functions, ...) - data attached to some object (objfile, program space, etc) in the form of a void pointer - "user data" passed to some function This patch comes from the commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++", taken from Pedro's C++ branch. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified, so the native files for other arches will need to be dealt with separately. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. To my surprise, a test case (selftest.exp) had to be adjusted. Here's the ChangeLog entry. Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case more often than not). The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc. Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't know. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.
