2022-05-23spi: spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() rely on DT for spi speed and modePatrice Chotard1-1/+0
Now, spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() relies on DT for spi speed and mode and logically calls spi_get_bus_and_cs(). In case spi mode and speed are not read from DT, make usage of spi_flash_probe() instead. To sum-up: - Previous call tree was: spi_flash_probe() -> spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() -> spi_get_bus_and_cs() - Current call tree is: spi_flash_probe() -> _spi_get_bus_and_cs() spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() -> spi_get_bus_and_cs() This patch impacts the following : - cmd/sf.c: if spi mode and/or speed is passed in argument of do_spi_flash_probe(), call spi_flash_probe() otherwise call spi_flash_probe_bus_cs(). - drivers/net/fm/fm.c: as by default spi speed and mode was set to 0 and a comment indicates that speed and mode are read from DT, use spi_flash_probe_bus_cs(). - drivers/net/pfe_eth/pfe_firmware.c: spi speed and mode are not read from DT by all platforms using this driver, so keep legacy and replace spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() by spi_flash_probe(); - drivers/net/sni_netsec.c : spi speed and mode are not read from DT, so replace spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() by spi_flash_probe(). - drivers/usb/gadget/max3420_udc.c: Can't find any platform which make usage of this driver, nevertheless, keep legacy and replace spi_get_bus_and_cs() by _spi_get_bus_and_cs(). - env/sf.c: a comment indicates that speed and mode are read from DT. So use spi_flash_probe_bus_cs(). 2022-05-02env: sf: Allow to use env_sf_init_addr() at any stagePali Rohár1-11/+11
In some cases it makes sense to use env_sf_init_addr() also in SPL mode. Allow it for boards by providing custom implementation of weak function env_sf_get_env_addr(). When this function returns NULL it signals that address is invalid, like config option CONFIG_ENV_ADDR. There is no change in default behavior or in config options. 2021-04-16env: sf: add support of command env erasePatrick Delaunay1-0/+34
Add support of opts erase for env in SPI flash; this opts is used by command 'env erase'. This command only fills the env offset by 0x0 (bit flip to 0) and the saved environment becomes invalid (with bad CRC). It doesn't erase the sector here to avoid issue when the sector is larger than the env (i.e. embedded when CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE > CONFIG_ENV_SIZE). The needed sector erase will be managed in the next "env save" command, using the opt ".save", before to update the environment in SPI flash. 2021-04-16env: increment redund flag on read failBrandon Maier1-1/+1
If one of the reads fails when importing redundant environments (a single read failure), the env_flags wouldn't get initialized in env_import_redund(). If a user then calls saveenv, the new environment will have the wrong flags value. So on the next load the new environment will be ignored. While debugging this, I also noticed that env/sf.c was not correctly handling a single read failure, as it would not check the crc before assigning it to gd->env_addr. Having a special error path for when there is a single read failure seems unnecessary and may lead to future bugs. Instead collapse the 'single read failure' error to be the same as a 'single crc failure'. That way env_check_redund() either passes or fails, and if it passes we are guaranteed to have checked the CRC. 2021-04-16env: add CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE_AUTORasmus Villemoes1-2/+8
This is roughly the U-Boot side equivalent to commit e282c422e0 (tools: fw_env: use erasesize from MEMGETINFO ioctl). The motivation is the case where one has a board with several revisions, where the SPI flashes have different erase sizes. In our case, we have an 8K environment, and the flashes have erase sizes of 4K (newer boards) and 64K (older boards). Currently, we must set CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE to 64K to make the code work on the older boards, but for the newer ones, that ends up wasting quite a bit of time reading/erasing/restoring the last 56K. At first, I wanted to allow setting CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE to 0 to mean "use the erase size the chip reports", but that config option is used in a number of preprocessor conditionals, and shared between ENV_IS_IN_FLASH and ENV_IS_IN_SPI_FLASH. So instead, introduce a new boolean config option, which for now can only be used with ENV_IS_IN_SPI_FLASH. If left off, there's no change in behaviour. The only slightly annoying detail is that, when selected, the compiler is apparently not smart enough to see that the the saved_size and saved_offset variables are only used under the same "if (sect_size > CONFIG_ENV_SIZE)" condition as where they are computed, so we need to initialize them to 0 to avoid "may be used uninitialized" warnings. On our newer boards with the 4K erase size, saving the environment now takes 0.080 seconds instead of 0.53 seconds, which directly translates to that much faster boot time since our logic always causes the environment to be written during boot. In a number of cases this requires adding "struct udevice;" to avoid adding another large header or in other cases replacing / adding missing header files that had been pulled in, very indirectly. Finally, we have a few cases where we did not need to include <asm/global_data.h> at all, so remove that include. 2020-11-03env: sf: fix init function behaviourHeiko Schocher1-3/+5
Michael wrote: commit 92765f45bb95 ("env: Access Environment in SPI flashes before relocation") at least breaks the Kontron sl28 board. I guess it also breaks others which use a (late) SPI environment. reason is, that env_init() sets the init bit, if there is no init function defined in an environment driver, and use default return value -ENOENT in this case later for setting the default environment. Change: Environment driver can now implement an init function and return, if this function does nothing, simply -ENOENT. env_init() now handles -ENOENT correct by setting the inited bit for the environment driver. And if there is no other environment driver whose init function returns 0, load than the default environment. This prevents that each environment driver needs to set the default environment. 2020-06-29spi: Convert CONFIG_DM_SPI* to CONFIG_$(SPL_TPL_)DM_SPI*Lukasz Majewski1-1/+1
This change allows more fine tuning of driver model based SPI support in SPL and TPL. It is now possible to explicitly enable/disable the DM_SPI support in SPL and TPL via Kconfig option. Before this change it was necessary to use: /* SPI Flash Configs */ #if defined(CONFIG_SPL_BUILD) #undef CONFIG_DM_SPI #undef CONFIG_DM_SPI_FLASH #undef CONFIG_SPI_FLASH_MTD #endif in the ./include/configs/<board>.h, which is error prone and shall be avoided when we strive to switch to Kconfig. The goal of this patch: Provide distinction for DM_SPI support in both U-Boot proper and SPL (TPL). Valid use case is when U-Boot proper wants to use DM_SPI, but SPL must still support non DM driver. Another use case is the conversion of non DM/DTS SPI driver to support DM/DTS. When such driver needs to work in both SPL and U-Boot proper, the distinction is needed in Kconfig (also if SPL version of the driver supports OF_PLATDATA). In the end of the day one would have to support following use cases (in single driver file - e.g. mxs_spi.c): - U-Boot proper driver supporting DT/DTS - U-Boot proper driver without DT/DTS support (deprecated) - SPL driver without DT/DTS support - SPL (and TPL) driver with DT/DTS (when the SoC has enough resources to run full blown DT/DTS) - SPL driver with DT/DTS and SPL_OF_PLATDATA (when one have constrained environment with no fitImage and OF_LIBFDT support). Some boards do require SPI support (with DM) in SPL (TPL) and some only have DM_SPI{_FLASH} defined to allow compiling SPL. This patch converts #ifdef CONFIG_DM_SPI* to #if CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(DM_SPI) and provides corresponding defines in Kconfig. 2020-05-08env/sf.c: honour CONFIG_SPL_SAVEENVRasmus Villemoes1-1/+1
Deciding whether to compile the env_sf_save() function based solely on CONFIG_SPL_BUILD is wrong: For U-Boot proper, it leads to a build warning in case CONFIG_CMD_SAVEENV=n (because the initialization of the .save member is guarded by CONFIG_CMD_SAVEENV, while the env_sf_save() function is built if !CONFIG_SPL_BUILD - and even without the CONFIG_CMD_SAVEENV guard, the env_save_ptr() macro would just expand to NULL, with no reference to env_sf_save visible to the compiler). And for SPL, when one selects CONFIG_SPL_SAVEENV, one obviously expects to actually be able to save the environment. The compiler warning can be fixed by using a "<something> ? env_sf_save : NULL" construction instead of a macro that just eats its argument and expands to NULL. That way, if <something> is false, env_sf_save gets eliminated as dead code, but the compiler still sees the reference to it. For <something>, we can use CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(SAVEENV), which is true precisely: - For U-Boot proper, when CONFIG_CMD_SAVEENV is set (because CONFIG_SAVEENV is a hidden config symbol that gets set if and only if CONFIG_CMD_SAVEENV is set). - For SPL, when CONFIG_SPL_SAVEENV is set. As a bonus, this also removes quite a few preprocessor conditionals. This has been run-time tested on a mpc8309-derived board to verify that saving the environment does indeed work in SPL with these patches applied. The spi_flash_read_env function is a wrapper over spi_flash_read, which enables the env to read multiple flash page size from flash until '\0\0' is read or the end of env partition is reached. Instead of reading the entire env size. When it reads '\0\0', it stops reading further the env and assumes that the rest of env is '\0'. This is an optimization for large environments that contain few bytes environment variables. In this case it doesn't need to read the entire environment and only few pages. For some reason the spi_flash_probe_bus_cs() is called inside the setup_flash_device() with zero values in place of configurated SPI flash mode and maximum flash speed. This code causes HALT error during startup environment relocation on some platforms - namely Armada-38x-GP board. Fix the function call by replacing zeros with the appropriate values - CONFIG_ENV_SPI_MAX_HZ and CONFIG_ENV_SPI_MODE. 2018-07-19env: common: accept flags on reset to default envYaniv Levinsky1-5/+5
The function set_default_env() sets the hashtable flags for import_r(). Formally set_default_env() doesn't accept flags from its callers. In practice the caller can (un)set the H_INTERACTIVE flag, but it has to be done using the first character of the function's string argument. Other flags like H_FORCE can't be set by the caller. Change the function to accept flags argument. The benefits are: 1. The caller will have to explicitly set the H_INTERACTIVE flag, instead of un-setting it using a special char in a string. 2. Add the ability to propagate flags from the caller to himport(), especially the H_FORCE flag from do_env_default() in nvedit.c that currently gets ignored for "env default -a -f" commands. 3. Flags and messages will not be coupled together. A caller will be able to set flags without passing a string and vice versa. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini1-2/+1
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. Let's clean this up by making env_import and env_import_redund return 0 on success and -EIO on error (as was the case for all users before). Users that cared for the return value are also updated. U-Boot widely uses error() as a bit noisier variant of printf(). This macro causes name conflict with the following line in include/linux/compiler-gcc.h: # define __compiletime_error(message) __attribute__((error(message))) This prevents us from using __compiletime_error(), and makes it difficult to fully sync BUILD_BUG macros with Linux. (Notice Linux's BUILD_BUG_ON_MSG is implemented by using compiletime_assert().) Let's convert error() into now treewide-available pr_err(). Done with the help of Coccinelle, excluing tools/ directory. 2017-08-15env: Create a location driver for each locationSimon Glass1-0/+20
Set up a location driver for each supported environment location. At present this just points to the global functions and is not used. A later patch will switch this over to use private functions in each driver. There are several special cases here in various drivers to handle peculiarities of certain boards: 1. Some boards define CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_FAT and CONFIG_SPL_ENV_SUPPORT but do not actually load the environment in SPL. The env load code was optimised out before but with the driver, it is not. Therefore a special case is added to env/fat.c. The correct fix (depending on board testing might be to disable CONFIG_SPL_ENV_SUPPORT. 2. A similar situations happens with CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_FLASH. Some boards do not actually load the environment in SPL, so to reduce code size we need to drop that code. A similar fix may be possible with these boards, or it may be possible to adjust the environment CONFIG settings. Added to the above is that the CONFIG_SPL_ENV_SUPPORT option does not apply when the environment is in flash. Obviously the above has been discovered through painful and time-consuming trial and error. Hopefully board maintainers can take a look and figure out what is actually needed.
