2024-04-19login: Use unsigned 32-bit types for seconds-since-epochFlorian Weimer1-1/+1
These fields store timestamps when the system was running. No Linux systems existed before 1970, so these values are unused. Switching to unsigned types allows continued use of the existing struct layouts beyond the year 2038. The intent is to give distributions more time to switch to improved interfaces that also avoid locking/data corruption issues. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

Bump autoconf requirement to 2.71 to allow regenerating configure on more recent distributions. autoconf 2.71 has been in Fedora since F36 and is the current version in Debian stable (bookworm). It appears to be current in Gentoo as well. All sysdeps configure and preconfigure scripts have also been regenerated; all changes are trivial transformations that do not affect functionality. The standards want msg_lspid/msg_lrpid/shm_cpid/shm_lpid to be pid_t, see BZ 23083 and 23085. We can leave them __rpc_pid_t on i386 for ABI compatibility, but avoid hitting the issue on 64bit.
2023-05-01hurd 64bit: Fix ipc_perm fields typesSamuel Thibault3-12/+38
The standards want uid/cuid to be uid_t, gid/cgid to be gid_t and mode to be mode_t, see BZ 23082. We can leave them short ints on i386 for ABI compatibility, but avoid hitting the issue on 64bit. bits/ipc.h ends up being exactly the same in sysdeps/gnu/ and sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/, so remove the latter.

2022-01-01Update copyright dates with scripts/update-copyrightsPaul Eggert18-18/+18
I used these shell commands: ../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright (cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]") and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning: copyright statement not found" for each of 7061 files FOO. I then removed trailing white space from math/tgmath.h, support/tst-support-open-dev-null-range.c, and sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strlen-vec.S, to work around the following obscure pre-commit check failure diagnostics from Savannah. 2021-09-03Remove "Contributed by" linesSiddhesh Poyarekar3-3/+0
We stopped adding "Contributed by" or similar lines in sources in 2012 in favour of git logs and keeping the Contributors section of the glibc manual up to date. Removing these lines makes the license header a bit more consistent across files and also removes the possibility of error in attribution when license blocks or files are copied across since the contributed-by lines don't actually reflect reality in those cases. Move all "Contributed by" and similar lines (Written by, Test by, etc.) into a new file CONTRIBUTED-BY to retain record of these contributions. These contributors are also mentioned in manual/contrib.texi, so we just maintain this additional record as a courtesy to the earlier developers. The following scripts were used to filter a list of files to edit in place and to clean up the CONTRIBUTED-BY file respectively. These were not added to the glibc sources because they're not expected to be of any use in future given that this is a one time task: https://gist.github.com/siddhesh/b5ecac94eabfd72ed2916d6d8157e7dc https://gist.github.com/siddhesh/15ea1f5e435ace9774f485030695ee02 Reviewed-by: Carlos O'Donell <carlos@redhat.com>

2021-05-06Annotate additional APIs with GCC attribute access.Martin Sebor1-1/+3
This change continues the improvements to compile-time out of bounds checking by decorating more APIs with either attribute access, or by explicitly providing the array bound in APIs such as tmpnam() that expect arrays of some minimum size as arguments. (The latter feature is new in GCC 11.) The only effects of the attribute and/or the array bound is to check and diagnose calls to the functions that fail to provide a sufficient number of elements, and the definitions of the functions that access elements outside the specified bounds. (There is no interplay with _FORTIFY_SOURCE here yet.) Tested with GCC 7 through 11 on x86_64-linux.

2020-09-29string: Fix strerrorname_np return value [BZ #26555]Adhemerval Zanella1-152/+149
It returns the string of the error constant, not its description (as strerrordesc_np). To handle the Hurd error mapping, the ERR_MAP was removed from errlist.h to errlist.c. Also, the testcase test-strerr (added on 325081b9eb2) was not added on the check build neither it builds correctly. This patch also changed it to decouple from errlist.h, the expected return values are added explicitly for both both strerrorname_np and strerrordesc_np directly. Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu. I also run a make check for i686-gnu.

The compat code is also refactored by removing the over enginered errlist-compat.c generation from manual entried and extra comment token in linker script file. It disantangle the code generation from manual and simplify both Linux and Hurd compat code. The definitions from errlist.c are moved to errlist.h and a new test is added to avoid a new errno entry without an associated one in manual. Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu. Note that this patch does not include additions to struct tcp_info; there are many other elements in this structure in the Linux kernel that are not included in the glibc version (which was last extended in 2007, it seems). Such additions to the end of the structure may be OK with the expected way it is used (size passed explicitly to the kernel with getsockopt), but in principle any change to the size of a type provided by glibc is an ABI change for external applications / libraries using that type in their ABIs, and has the associated risks of such a change. The only difference to gnulib code is * DT_UNKNOWN, DT_DIR, and DT_LNK definition in the case there were not already defined. Gnulib code which uses HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE will redefine them wrongly because GLIBC does not define HAVE_STRUCT_DIRENT_D_TYPE. Instead the patch check for each definition instead. Also, the patch requires additional globfree and globfree64 files for compatibility version on some architectures. Also the code simplification leads to not macro simplification (not need for NO_GLOB_PATTERN_P anymore). Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and on a build using build-many-glibcs.py for all major architectures. [BZ #1062] * posix/Makefile (routines): Add globfree, globfree64, and glob_pattern_p. * posix/flexmember.h: New file. * posix/glob_internal.h: Likewise. * posix/glob_pattern_p.c: Likewise. * posix/globfree.c: Likewise. * posix/globfree64.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/gnu/globfree64.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha/globfree.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/mips64/n64/globfree64.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/oldglob.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/wordsize-64/globfree64.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/x32/globfree.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/wordsize-64/globfree.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/wordsize-64/globfree64.c: Likewise. * posix/glob.c (HAVE_CONFIG_H): Use !_LIBC instead. [NDEBUG): Remove comments. (GLOB_ONLY_P, _AMIGA, VMS): Remove define. (dirent_type): New type. Use uint_fast8_t not uint8_t, as C99 does not require uint8_t. (DT_UNKNOWN, DT_DIR, DT_LNK): New macros. (struct readdir_result): Use dirent_type. Do not define skip_entry unless it is needed; this saves a byte on platforms lacking d_ino. (readdir_result_type, readdir_result_skip_entry): New functions, replacing ... (readdir_result_might_be_symlink, readdir_result_might_be_dir): these functions, which were removed. This makes the callers easier to read. All callers changed. (D_INO_TO_RESULT): Now empty if there is no d_ino. (size_add_wrapv, glob_use_alloca): New static functions. (glob, glob_in_dir): Check for size_t overflow in several places, and fix some size_t checks that were not quite right. Remove old code using SHELL since Bash no longer uses this. (glob, prefix_array): Separate MS code better. (glob_in_dir): Remove old Amiga and VMS code. (globfree, __glob_pattern_type, __glob_pattern_p): Move to separate files. (glob_in_dir): Do not rely on undefined behavior in accessing struct members beyond their bounds. Use a flexible array member instead (link_stat): Rename from link_exists2_p and return -1/0 instead of 0/1. Caller changed. (glob): Fix memory leaks. * posix/glob64 (globfree64): Move to separate file. * sysdeps/gnu/glob64.c (NO_GLOB_PATTERN_P): Remove define. (globfree64): Remove hidden alias. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/Makefile (sysdeps_routines): Add oldglob. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha/glob.c (__new_globfree): Move to separate file. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/glob64.c (NO_GLOB_PATTERN_P): Remove define. Move compat code to separate file. * sysdeps/wordsize-64/glob.c (globfree): Move definitions to separate file.
2017-09-07Update netinet/tcp.h from Linux 4.13.Joseph Myers1-2/+8
This patch updates sysdeps/gnu/netinet/tcp.h to include new definitions from include/uapi/linux/tcp.h in Linux 4.13. Tested for x86_64. * sysdeps/gnu/netinet/tcp.h (TCP_ULP): New macro. (TCP_MD5SIG_EXT): Likewise. (TCP_MD5SIG_FLAG_PREFIX): Likewise. (struct tcp_md5sig): Replace __tcpm_pad1 by tcpm_flags and tcpm_prefixlen. Rename __tcpm_pad2 to __tcpm_pad.

2017-05-19manual: Convert errno @comments to new @errno macro.Rical Jasan1-16/+5
errno.texi documents error macros, their values, and error strings in Texinfo @comments, some of which are also used for @standards. The purpose of this commit is to separate the standards from the error strings so that both the @standards conversion script picks up clean @standards and the errno documentation framework is improved. The error names, values, and messages are consolidated in a new custom macro, @errno. It is not clear that scripts within the sources rely on the special Texinfo @comment-based format to generate files used throughout the library, so the definition of @errno in macros.texi now provides a comment indicating the dependency. The dependent scripts are updated to use @errno, which also simplifies them a bit. The files those scripts generate were verified to be unchanged. The @errno macro is not visibly rendered in any way at this time, but it does use an @cindex command to add the error string to the Concept Index, to facilitate searching on error messages. * manual/errno.texi: Convert @comment-based errno documentation to @errno. * manual/macros.texi (@errno): New macro. Consolidate errors, their values, and messages, adding the error string to the Concept Index. Provide a warning in the comment about external (to the manual) dependencies. * sysdeps/gnu/errlist.awk: Use @errno instead of @comments. * sysdeps/mach/hurd/errnos.awk: Likewise.
