2015-07-08Fix ruserok scalability with large ~/.rhosts file.Carlos O'Donell1-19/+31
Fixes bug 18557. The ruserok API does hosts checks first while it walks the user's ~/.rhosts file. This results in lots of DNS queries that could have been skipped if we short-circuit test the user portion first to see if would have had a failed match. This supports configurations where rlogin is used on internal secure networks with large numbers of users and machines. The Red Hat QE team did extensive testing on various rlogin combinations to validate this change, and in fact we found a defect in the first version which is fixed in this version.

gethostbyaddr brings in references to in6addr_any and thereby in6addr_loopback, which aren't in all the standards containing gethostbyaddr (gethostbyaddr is in XPG4 and UNIX98, in6addr_any and in6addr_loopback are new in POSIX.1:2001). This patch fixes this by making those symbols into weak aliases (safe in this case, unlike for most data symbols, because these data symbols are const). Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and comparison of disassembly of installed stripped shared libraries). Disassembly is unchanged for x86_64; for x86, I see some changes of stack offsets, but no other code generation changes or code size differences. 2015-06-12Fix h_errno namespace (bug 18520).Joseph Myers1-2/+2
The 2008 edition of POSIX removed h_errno, but some functions still bring in references to the h_errno external symbol. As this symbol is not a part of the public ABI (only __h_errno_location is), this patch fixes this by renaming the GLIBC_PRIVATE TLS symbol to __h_errno. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and comparison of installed shared libraries). Disassembly of all shared libraries using h_errno changes because of the renaming (and changes to associated TLS / GOT offsets in some cases); disassembly of libpthread on x86_64 changes more substantially because the enlargement of .dynsym affects subsequent addresses. Parts of the resolver brought in by pthreads (at least) use inet_* functions that aren't in the 1995/6 edition of POSIX that introduced pthreads (or in one case, use __inet_aton which is then defined in the same file as non-weak inet_addr). This patch fixes this by making the affected functions into weak alias for __inet_* and using those names in the problematic resolver code. Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that disassembly of installed shared libraries is unchanged by the patch). Various objects in glibc bring in ifaddrs.o (via references to __netlink_*) and thereby getifaddrs and freeifaddrs, which are not part of any standard supported by glibc. These should be weak aliases of __getifaddrs and __freeifaddrs; this patch makes them so. (The path by which these functions are brought in is Linux-specific, but it seems less confusing to make all versions of these functions weak aliases rather than only the Linux-specific versions that definitely need it.) Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that disassembly of installed shared libraries is unchanged by this patch). (#17363) The netgroups lookup code fails when one of the groups in the search tree is empty. In such a case it only returns the leaves of the tree after the blank netgroup. This is because the line parser returns a NOTFOUND status when the netgroup exists but is empty. The __getnetgrent_internal implementation needs to be fixed to try remaining groups if the current group is entry. This patch implements this fix. Tested on x86_64. 2014-03-27Return NULL for wildcard values in getnetgrent from nscd (BZ #16759)Siddhesh Poyarekar1-3/+11
getnetgrent is supposed to return NULL for values that are wildcards in the (host, user, domain) triplet. This works correctly with nscd disabled, but with it enabled, it returns a blank ("") instead of a NULL. This is easily seen with the output of `getent netgroup foonet` for a netgroup foonet defined as follows in /etc/netgroup: foonet (,foo,) The output with nscd disabled is: foonet ( ,foo,) while with nscd enabled, it is: foonet (,foo,) The extra space with nscd disabled is due to the fact that `getent netgroup` adds it if the return value from getnetgrent is NULL for either host or user.

In <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00196.html> I noted it was necessary to add includes of Makeconfig early in various subdirectory makefiles for the tests-special variable settings added by that patch to be conditional on configuration information. No-one commented on the general question there of whether Makeconfig should always be included immediately after the definition of subdir. This patch implements that early inclusion of Makeconfig in each directory (which is a lot easier than consistent placement of includes of Rules). Includes are added if needed, or moved up if already present. Subdirectory "all:" targets are removed, since Makeconfig provides one. There is potential for further cleanups I haven't done. Rules and Makerules have code such as ifneq "$(findstring env,$(origin headers))" "" headers := endif to override to empty any value of various variables that came from the environment. I think there is a case for Makeconfig setting all the subdirectory variables (other than subdir) to empty to ensure no outside value is going to take effect if a subdirectory fails to define a variable. (A list of such variables, possibly out of date and incomplete, is in manual/maint.texi.) Rules and Makerules would give errors if Makeconfig hadn't already been included, instead of including it themselves. The special code to override values coming from the environment would then be obsolete and could be removed. This patch cleans up following the obsoletion of _BSD_SOURCE and _SVID_SOURCE by combining __USE_BSD and __USE_SVID into __USE_MISC. The only non-mechanical part of this patch is the changes to features.h; everything else is simple substitution of __USE_MISC for the old macros. Thus, this patch leaves obviously redundant conditionals such as "defined __USE_MISC || defined __USE_MISC", and does not update #endif comments where they referred to BSD or SVID in words instead of the literal macro name. This is intended to facilitate patch review by separating the less mechanical changes from these purely mechanical changes into a separate patch. (I do intend to integrate all the changes from <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2013-12/msg00226.html>, which I believe includes all the trailing comment updates, in subsequent patches.) However it is not valid C90. If possible glibc attempts to keep all headers C90 + long long without requiring C99 features. In this case it's easy to fix the headers and it removes the warning seem with -pedantic.

The current tftp structure does not work when fortification is enabled. Starting with gcc-4.5, more size checking was added to trigger these. Older versions just didn't have enough information, so they returned -1 as the sizes. First, the tu_stuff field is declared as 1 byte (when it's really an arbitrary length C string), so attempting to strcpy() with it results in crashes. This fails with _FORTIFY_SOURCE=1. Second, even if we change that to [0] (since gcc does not allow flexible array members in an union), gcc is not smart enough to see that they are two overlapping flexible arrays (tu_stuff and tu_data), so it will still trigger an abort with _FORTIFY_SOURCE=2. This is because it thinks that tu_stuff is 0 bytes and tu_data comes after it. Talking to upstream gcc, they don't seem terribly inclined to fix the 2nd issue, but even if they did, we still have plenty of 4.5 and 4.6 installs that would hit problems. So, let's re-order with a few more anonymous structs & unions so that the fields are laid out with a zero-length array always as the last field. This seems to fix things with gcc-4.6, and the tftp-hpa pkg continues to build & work.
