The generic version is the de-facto Linux implementation. It requires an auxiliary vector, so Hurd does not use it. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

I used these shell commands: ../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright (cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]") and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning: copyright statement not found" for each of 7061 files FOO. I then removed trailing white space from math/tgmath.h, support/tst-support-open-dev-null-range.c, and sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strlen-vec.S, to work around the following obscure pre-commit check failure diagnostics from Savannah. 2021-10-21elf: Fix slow DSO sorting behavior in dynamic loader (BZ #17645)Chung-Lin Tang1-0/+3
This second patch contains the actual implementation of a new sorting algorithm for shared objects in the dynamic loader, which solves the slow behavior that the current "old" algorithm falls into when the DSO set contains circular dependencies. The new algorithm implemented here is simply depth-first search (DFS) to obtain the Reverse-Post Order (RPO) sequence, a topological sort. A new l_visited:1 bitfield is added to struct link_map to more elegantly facilitate such a search. The DFS algorithm is applied to the input maps[nmap-1] backwards towards maps[0]. This has the effect of a more "shallow" recursion depth in general since the input is in BFS. Also, when combined with the natural order of processing l_initfini[] at each node, this creates a resulting output sorting closer to the intuitive "left-to-right" order in most cases. Another notable implementation adjustment related to this _dl_sort_maps change is the removing of two char arrays 'used' and 'done' in _dl_close_worker to represent two per-map attributes. This has been changed to simply use two new bit-fields l_map_used:1, l_map_done:1 added to struct link_map. This also allows discarding the clunky 'used' array sorting that _dl_sort_maps had to sometimes do along the way. Tunable support for switching between different sorting algorithms at runtime is also added. A new tunable 'glibc.rtld.dynamic_sort' with current valid values 1 (old algorithm) and 2 (new DFS algorithm) has been added. At time of commit of this patch, the default setting is 1 (old algorithm). Signed-off-by: Chung-Lin Tang <cltang@codesourcery.com> Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

2021-02-01sysconf: Add _SC_MINSIGSTKSZ/_SC_SIGSTKSZ [BZ #20305]H.J. Lu1-0/+9
Add _SC_MINSIGSTKSZ for the minimum signal stack size derived from AT_MINSIGSTKSZ, which is the minimum number of bytes of free stack space required in order to gurantee successful, non-nested handling of a single signal whose handler is an empty function, and _SC_SIGSTKSZ which is the suggested minimum number of bytes of stack space required for a signal stack. If AT_MINSIGSTKSZ isn't available, sysconf (_SC_MINSIGSTKSZ) returns MINSIGSTKSZ. On Linux/x86 with XSAVE, the signal frame used by kernel is composed of the following areas and laid out as: ------------------------------ | alignment padding | ------------------------------ | xsave buffer | ------------------------------ | fsave header (32-bit only) | ------------------------------ | siginfo + ucontext | ------------------------------ Compute AT_MINSIGSTKSZ value as size of xsave buffer + size of fsave header (32-bit only) + size of siginfo and ucontext + alignment padding. If _SC_SIGSTKSZ_SOURCE or _GNU_SOURCE are defined, MINSIGSTKSZ and SIGSTKSZ are redefined as /* Default stack size for a signal handler: sysconf (SC_SIGSTKSZ). */ # undef SIGSTKSZ # define SIGSTKSZ sysconf (_SC_SIGSTKSZ) /* Minimum stack size for a signal handler: SIGSTKSZ. */ # undef MINSIGSTKSZ # define MINSIGSTKSZ SIGSTKSZ Compilation will fail if the source assumes constant MINSIGSTKSZ or SIGSTKSZ. The reason for not simply increasing the kernel's MINSIGSTKSZ #define (apart from the fact that it is rarely used, due to glibc's shadowing definitions) was that userspace binaries will have baked in the old value of the constant and may be making assumptions about it. For example, the type (char [MINSIGSTKSZ]) changes if this #define changes. This could be a problem if an newly built library tries to memcpy() or dump such an object defined by and old binary. Bounds-checking and the stack sizes passed to things like sigaltstack() and makecontext() could similarly go wrong.

2020-12-16Replace __libc_multiple_libcs with __libc_initial flagFlorian Weimer1-2/+0
Change sbrk to fail for !__libc_initial (in the generic implementation). As a result, sbrk is (relatively) safe to use for the __libc_initial case (from the main libc). It is therefore no longer necessary to avoid using it in that case (or updating the brk cache), and the __libc_initial flag does not need to be updated as part of dlmopen or static dlopen. As before, direct brk system calls on Linux may lead to memory corruption. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

2019-03-13Fix output of LD_SHOW_AUXV=1.Stefan Liebler1-8/+3
Starting with commit 1616d034b61622836d3a36af53dcfca7624c844e the output was corrupted on some platforms as _dl_procinfo was called for every auxv entry and on some architectures like s390 all entries were represented as "AT_HWCAP". This patch is removing the condition and let _dl_procinfo decide if an entry is printed in a platform specific or generic way. This patch also adjusts all _dl_procinfo implementations which assumed that they are only called for AT_HWCAP or AT_HWCAP2. They are now just returning a non-zero-value for entries which are not handled platform specifc. ChangeLog: * elf/dl-sysdep.c (_dl_show_auxv): Remove condition and always call _dl_procinfo. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/s390/dl-procinfo.h (_dl_procinfo): Ignore types other than AT_HWCAP. * sysdeps/sparc/dl-procinfo.h (_dl_procinfo): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/dl-procinfo.h (_dl_procinfo): Likewise. * sysdeps/powerpc/dl-procinfo.h (_dl_procinfo): Adjust comment in the case of falling back to generic output mechanism. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/arm/dl-procinfo.h (_dl_procinfo): Likewise.

2014-11-04Don't use INTDEF/INTUSE with _dl_argv (bug 14132).Joseph Myers1-1/+1
Continuing the removal of the obsolete INTDEF / INTUSE mechanism, this patch replaces its use for _dl_argv with rtld_hidden_data_def and rtld_hidden_proto. Some places in .S files that previously used _dl_argv_internal or INTUSE(_dl_argv) now use __GI__dl_argv directly (there are plenty of existing examples of such direct use of __GI_*). A single place in rtld.c previously used _dl_argv without INTUSE, apparently accidentally, while the rtld_hidden_proto mechanism avoids such accidential omissions. As a consequence, this patch *does* change the contents of stripped ld.so. However, the installed stripped shared libraries are identical to those you get if instead of this patch you change that single _dl_argv use to use INTUSE, without any other changes. Tested for x86_64 (testsuite as well as comparison of installed stripped shared libraries as described above). [BZ #14132] * sysdeps/generic/ldsodefs.h (_dl_argv): Use rtld_hidden_proto.
