2020-07-15x86: avoid attaching suffixes to unambiguous insnsJan Beulich1-16/+16
"Unambiguous" is is in particular taking as reference the assembler, which also accepts certain insns - despite them allowing for varying operand size, and hence in principle being ambiguous - without any suffix. For example, from the very beginning of the life of x86-64 I had trouble understanding why a plain and simple RET had to be printed as RETQ. In case someone really used the 16-bit form, RETW disambiguates the two quite fine.

when disassembling, and it will use dynamic relocs to interpret entries in the PLT and GOT. binutils * objdump.c (is_significant_symbol_name): New function. (remove_useless_symbols): Do not remove significanr symbols. (find_symbol_for_address): If an exact match for the specified address has not been found, try scanning the dynamic relocs to see if one of these matches the address. If so, use the symbol associated with the reloc. (objdump_print_addr_with_symbol): Do not print offsets to symbols with no value. (disassemble_section): Only use dynamic relocs if the user requested this. 2015-05-15Support AMD64/Intel ISAs in assembler/disassemblerH.J. Lu1-1/+1
AMD64 spec and Intel64 spec differ in direct unconditional branches in 64-bit mode. AMD64 supports direct unconditional branches with 16-bit offset via the data size prefix, which truncates RIP to 16 bits, while the data size prefix is ignored by Intel64. This patch adds -mamd64/-mintel64 option to x86-64 assembler and -Mamd64/-Mintel64 option to x86-64 disassembler. The most permissive ISA, which is AMD64, is the default. GDB can add an option, similar to (gdb) help set disassembly-flavor Set the disassembly flavor. X86 disassembler checks data and address size prefixes when displaying instruction mnemonic and operands. For the extra data and address size prefixes, their names depend only on the address mode, not the data and address size prefixes.
