2019-01-10Fix tracepoint.c:parse_tracepoint_definition leak (and one more)Pedro Alves1-13/+17
Coverity points out that gdb/tracepoint.c:parse_tracepoint_definition can leak 'cond' in this line: cond = (char *) xmalloc (2 * xlen + 1); That can leak because we're in a loop and 'cond' may have already been xmalloc'ed into in a previous iteration. That won't normally happen, because we don't expect to see a tracepoint definition with multiple conditions listed, but, it doesn't hurt to be pedantically correct, in case some stub manages to send something odd back to GDB. At first I thought I'd just replace the xmalloc call with: cond = (char *) xrealloc (cond, 2 * xlen + 1); and be done with it. However, my pedantic self realizes that warning() can throw as well (due to pagination + Ctrl-C), so I fixed it using gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr instead. While doing this, I noticed that these vectors in struct uploaded_tp: std::vector<char *> actions; std::vector<char *> step_actions; hold heap-allocated strings, but nothing is freeing the strings, AFAICS. So I ended up switching all the heap-allocated strings in uploaded_tp to unique pointers. This patch is the result of that. I also wrote an alternative, but similar patch that uses std::string throughout instead of gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr, but in the end reverted it because the code didn't look that much better, and I kind of dislike replacing pointers with fat std::string's (3 or 4 times the size of a pointer) in structures. gdb/ChangeLog: 2019-01-10 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * breakpoint.c (read_uploaded_action) (create_tracepoint_from_upload): Adjust to use gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr. * ctf.c (ctf_write_uploaded_tp): (SET_ARRAY_FIELD): Use emplace_back. 2019-01-01Update copyright year range in all GDB files.Joel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
2018-10-04Simple -Wshadow=local fixesTom Tromey1-5/+5
This fixes all the straightforward -Wshadow=local warnings in gdb. A few standard approaches are used here: * Renaming an inner (or outer, but more commonly inner) variable; * Lowering a declaration to avoid a clash; * Moving a declaration into a more inner scope to avoid a clash, including the special case of moving a declaration into a loop header. I did not consider any of the changes in this patch to be particularly noteworthy, though of course they should all still be examined. gdb/ChangeLog 2018-10-04 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * ctf.c (SET_ARRAY_FIELD): Rename "u32". * p-valprint.c (pascal_val_print): Split inner "i" variable. * xtensa-tdep.c (xtensa_push_dummy_call): Declare "i" in loop header. * xstormy16-tdep.c (xstormy16_push_dummy_call): Declare "val" in more inner scope. * xcoffread.c (read_xcoff_symtab): Rename inner "symbol". * varobj.c (varobj_update): Rename inner "newobj", "type_changed". * valprint.c (generic_emit_char): Rename inner "buf". * valops.c (find_overload_match): Rename inner "temp". 2018-09-23Mark more file descriptors close-on-execTom Tromey1-2/+5
I noticed a couple of spots in gdb that were opening files but not marking the file descriptors as close-on-exec. This patch fixes these. 2018-06-21Use thread_info and inferior pointers more throughoutPedro Alves1-4/+1
This is more preparation bits for multi-target support. In a multi-target scenario, we need to address the case of different processes/threads running on different targets that happen to have the same PID/PTID. E.g., we can have both process 123 in target 1, and process 123 in target 2, while they're in reality different processes running on different machines. Or maybe we've loaded multiple instances of the same core file. Etc. To address this, in my WIP multi-target branch, threads and processes are uniquely identified by the (process_stratum target_ops *, ptid_t) and (process_stratum target_ops *, pid) tuples respectively. I.e., each process_stratum instance has its own thread/process number space. As you can imagine, that requires passing around target_ops * pointers in a number of functions where we're currently passing only a ptid_t or an int. E.g., when we look up a thread_info object by ptid_t in find_thread_ptid, the ptid_t alone isn't sufficient. In many cases though, we already have the thread_info or inferior pointer handy, but we "lose" it somewhere along the call stack, only to look it up again by ptid_t/pid. Since thread_info or inferior objects know their parent target, if we pass around thread_info or inferior pointers when possible, we avoid having to add extra target_ops parameters to many functions, and also, we eliminate a number of by ptid_t/int lookups. So that's what this patch does. In a bit more detail: - Changes a number of functions and methods to take a thread_info or inferior pointer instead of a ptid_t or int parameter. - Changes a number of structure fields from ptid_t/int to inferior or thread_info pointers. - Uses the inferior_thread() function whenever possible instead of inferior_ptid. - Uses thread_info pointers directly when possible instead of the is_running/is_stopped etc. routines that require a lookup. - A number of functions are eliminated along the way, such as: int valid_gdb_inferior_id (int num); int pid_to_gdb_inferior_id (int pid); int gdb_inferior_id_to_pid (int num); int in_inferior_list (int pid); - A few structures and places hold a thread_info pointer across inferior execution, so now they take a strong reference to the (refcounted) thread_info object to avoid the thread_info pointer getting stale. This is done in enable_thread_stack_temporaries and in the infcall.c code. - Related, there's a spot in infcall.c where using a RAII object to handle the refcount would be handy, so a gdb::ref_ptr specialization for thread_info is added (thread_info_ref, in gdbthread.h), along with a gdb_ref_ptr policy that works for all refcounted_object types (in common/refcounted-object.h). gdb/ChangeLog: 2018-06-21 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * ada-lang.h (ada_get_task_number): Take a thread_info pointer instead of a ptid_t. 2018-05-03target factories, target open and multiple instances of targetsPedro Alves1-16/+12
Currently, to open a target, with "target TARGET_NAME", GDB finds the target_ops instance with "TARGET_NAME" as short name, and then calls its target_ops::open virtual method. In reality, there's no actual target/name lookup, a pointer to the target_ops object was associated with the "target TARGET_NAME" command at add_target time (when GDB is initialized), as the command's context. This creates a chicken and egg situation. Consider the case of wanting to open multiple remote connections. We want to be able to have one remote target_ops instance per connection, but, if we're not connected yet, so we don't yet have an instance to call target->open() on... This patch fixes this by separating out common info about a target_ops to a separate structure (shortname, longname, doc), and changing the add_target routine to take a reference to such an object instead of a pointer to a target_ops, and a pointer to a factory function that is responsible to open an instance of the corresponding target when the user types "target TARGET_NAME". -extern void add_target (struct target_ops *); +extern void add_target (const target_info &info, target_open_ftype *func); I.e. this factory function replaces the target_ops::open virtual method. For static/singleton targets, nothing changes, the target_open_ftype function pushes the global target_ops instance on the target stack. At target_close time, the connection is tor down, but the global target_ops object remains live. However, targets that support being open multiple times will make their target_open_ftype routine allocate a new target_ops instance on the heap [e.g., new remote_target()], and push that on the stack. At target_close time, the new object is destroyed (by the target_ops::close virtual method). Both the core target and the remote targets will support being open multiple times (others could/should too, but those were my stopping point), but not in this patch yet. We need to get rid of more globals first before that'd be useful. Native targets are somewhat special, given find_default_run_target & friends. Those routines also expect to return a target_ops pointer, even before we've open the target. However, we'll never need more than one instance of the native target, so we can assume/require that native targets are global/simpletons, and have the backends register a pointer to the native target_ops. 2018-05-03target_ops: Use bool throughoutPedro Alves1-4/+4
After the previous target_ops/C++ patches are all squashed and merged, this one can go in separately. 2018-05-03Convert struct target_ops to C++Pedro Alves1-47/+56
I.e., use C++ virtual methods and inheritance instead of tables of function pointers. Unfortunately, there's no way to do a smooth transition. ALL native targets in the tree must be converted at the same time. I've tested all I could with cross compilers and with help from GCC compile farm, but naturally I haven't been able to test many of the ports. Still, I made a best effort to port everything over, and while I expect some build problems due to typos and such, which should be trivial to fix, I don't expect any design problems. * Implementation notes: - The flattened current_target is gone. References to current_target or current_target.beneath are replaced with references to target_stack (the top of the stack) directly. - To keep "set debug target" working, this adds a new debug_stratum layer that sits on top of the stack, prints the debug, and delegates to the target beneath. In addition, this makes the shortname and longname properties of target_ops be virtual methods instead of data fields, and makes the debug target defer those to the target beneath. This is so that debug code sprinkled around that does "if (debugtarget) ..." can transparently print the name of the target beneath. A patch later in the series actually splits out the shortname/longname methods to a separate structure, but I preferred to keep that chance separate as it is associated with changing a bit the design of how targets are registered and open. - Since you can't check whether a C++ virtual method is overridden, the old method of checking whether a target_ops implements a method by comparing the function pointer must be replaced with something else. Some cases are fixed by adding a parallel "can_do_foo" target_ops methods. E.g.,: + for (t = target_stack; t != NULL; t = t->beneath) { - if (t->to_create_inferior != NULL) + if (t->can_create_inferior ()) break; } Others are fixed by changing void return type to bool or int return type, and have the default implementation return false or -1, to indicate lack of support. - make-target-delegates was adjusted to generate C++ classes and methods. It needed tweaks to grok "virtual" in front of the target method name, and for the fact that methods are no longer function pointers. (In particular, the current code parsing the return type was simple because it could simply parse up until the '(' in '(*to_foo)'. It now generates a couple C++ classes that inherit target_ops: dummy_target and debug_target. Since we need to generate the class declarations as well, i.e., we need to emit methods twice, we now generate the code in two passes. - The core_target global is renamed to avoid conflict with the "core_target" class. - ctf/tfile targets init_tracefile_ops is replaced by a base class that is inherited by both ctf and tfile. - bsd-uthread The bsd_uthread_ops_hack hack is gone. It's not needed because nothing was extending a target created by bsd_uthread_target. - remote/extended-remote targets This is a first pass, just enough to C++ify target_ops. A later pass will convert more free functions to methods, and make remote_state be truly per remote instance, allowing multiple simultaneous instances of remote targets. - inf-child/"native" is converted to an actual base class (inf_child_target), that is inherited by all native targets. - GNU/Linux The old weird double-target linux_ops mechanism in linux-nat.c, is gone, replaced by adding a few virtual methods to linux-nat.h's target_ops, called low_XXX, that the concrete linux-nat implementations override. Sort of like gdbserver's linux_target_ops, but simpler, for requiring only one target_ops-like hierarchy, which spares implementing the same method twice when we need to forward the method to a low implementation. The low target simply reimplements the target_ops method directly in that case. There are a few remaining linux-nat.c hooks that would be better converted to low_ methods like above too. E.g.: linux_nat_set_new_thread (t, x86_linux_new_thread); linux_nat_set_new_fork (t, x86_linux_new_fork); linux_nat_set_forget_process That'll be done in a follow up patch. - We can no longer use functions like x86_use_watchpoints to install custom methods on an arbitrary base target. The patch replaces instances of such a pattern with template mixins. For example memory_breakpoint_target defined in target.h, or x86_nat_target in x86-nat.h. - linux_trad_target, MIPS and Alpha GNU/Linux The code in the new linux-nat-trad.h/c files which was split off of inf-ptrace.h/c recently, is converted to a C++ base class, and used by the MIPS and Alpha GNU/Linux ports. - BSD targets The $architecture x NetBSD/OpenBSD/FreeBSD support matrix complicates things a bit. There's common BSD target code, and there's common architecture-specific code shared between the different BSDs. Currently, all that is stiched together to form a final target, via the i386bsd_target, x86bsd_target, fbsd_nat_add_target functions etc. This introduces new fbsd_nat_target, obsd_nat_target and nbsd_nat_target classes that serve as base/prototype target for the corresponding BSD variant. And introduces generic i386/AMD64 BSD targets, to be used as template mixin to build a final target. Similarly, a generic SPARC target is added, used by both BSD and Linux ports. - bsd_kvm_add_target, BSD libkvm target I considered making bsd_kvm_supply_pcb a virtual method, and then have each port inherit bsd_kvm_target and override that method, but that was resulting in lots of unjustified churn, so I left the function pointer mechanism alone. gdb/ChangeLog: 2018-05-02 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> John Baldwin <jhb@freebsd.org> * target.h (enum strata) <debug_stratum>: New. 2018-03-30Use std::vector in uploaded_tpSimon Marchi1-10/+8
This patch changes the VEC(char_ptr) fields in uploaded_tp to use std::vector<char *>. At first, I wanted to creep in more changes, like using std::string, but it was making the patch too big and less focused, so I decided to keep it to just that. It also looks like the strings in those vectors are never free'd. If so, we can fix that in another patch. gdb/ChangeLog: * tracepoint.h (struct uploaded_tp): Initialize fields. <actions, step_actions, cmd_strings>: Change type to std::vector<char *>. * tracepoint.c (get_uploaded_tp): Allocate with new. 2017-12-05Remove some unused variablesSimon Marchi1-16/+0
This patch removes some unused variables, found with -Wunused. I have not removed everything reported by -Wunused, because some expressions such as struct type *arg_type = check_typedef (value_type); in bfin-tdep.c could have an unexpected but important side-effect. I removed others that I considered more low-risk, such as: struct gdbarch *gdbarch = get_objfile_arch (objfile); I tested building with Python 2/Python 3/no Python, with/without expat, with/without libipt and with/without babeltrace. gdb/ChangeLog: * ada-lang.c (ada_collect_symbol_completion_matches): Remove unused variables. 2017-10-25s/get_regcache_arch (regcache)/regcache->arch ()/gYao Qi1-1/+1
This patches removes get_regcache_arch, and use regache->arch () instead. The motivation of this change is that I am going to move some basic stuff into a base class of regcache. I don't need to update "client" code regcache->arch (). On the other hand, this patch shortens the code a little bit. gdb: 2017-10-25 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * aarch32-linux-nat.c (aarch32_gp_regcache_supply): Use regcache->arch () instead get_regcache_arch. * aarch64-fbsd-nat.c (aarch64_fbsd_fetch_inferior_registers): Likewise. 2017-10-14Make to_traceframe_info return a unique_ptrSimon Marchi1-2/+2
Since this target method returns an allocated object, return a unique_ptr. It allows getting rid a some cleanups here and there. I had to shuffle the includes around. First, target.h now needs to include tracepoint.h, to get the definition of traceframe_info_up. However, the definition of enum trace_find_type was later in target, so I had to move it to tracepoint.h, so that the declaration of tfind_1 could know about it. I then had to remove the include of target.h from tracepoint.h, which caused a circular dependency (it was probably included to get enum trace_find_type in the first place anyway). Regression tested on the buildbot. gdb/ChangeLog: * target.h: Include tracepoint.h. (enum trace_find_type): Move to tracepoint.h. (struct target_ops) <to_traceframe_info>: Return a unique ptr. * tracepoint.h: Don't include target.h (enum trace_find_type): Move from target.h. 2017-10-14Use std::vector for traceframe_info::memorySimon Marchi1-4/+4
Straightforward change from a VEC to std::vector. This allows making the destruction of a traceframe_info trivial. I added a constructor with parameters to mem_range to be able to emplace_back directly with the values. It is necessary to leave a default constructor there because mem_range is still used in a VEC. gdb/ChangeLog: * memrange.h (struct mem_range): Add constructors. * tracepoint.h (struct traceframe_info) <memory>: Change type to std::vector<mem_range>. * tracepoint.c (free_traceframe_info): Don't manually free vector. (traceframe_info_start_memory): Adjust to vector change. (traceframe_available_memory): Likewise. * tracefile-tfile.c (build_traceframe_info): Likewise. * ctf.c (ctf_traceframe_info): Likewise.
2017-10-14Use std::vector for traceframe_info::tvarsSimon Marchi1-2/+2
Straightforward change to get rid of a VEC. We need to new/delete traceframe_info instead of malloc/free it. I found three places that allocate a traceframe_info (ctf_traceframe_info, tfile_traceframe_info and parse_traceframe_info) and only one that frees it (free_traceframe_info). gdb/ChangeLog: * tracepoint.h (struct traceframe_info) <tvars>: Change type to std::vector<int>. * tracepoint.c (free_traceframe_info): Deallocate with delete. (traceframe_info_start_tvar): Adjust to vector change. (parse_traceframe_info): Allocate with new. * ctf.c (ctf_traceframe_info): Allocate with new, adjust to vector change. * tracefile-tfile.c (build_traceframe_info): Adjust to vector change. tfile_traceframe_info): Allocate with new. * mi/mi-main.c (mi_cmd_trace_frame_collected): Adjust to vector change.

2017-06-02C++ify breakpoint class hierarchy (destructors only)Simon Marchi1-2/+2
Breakpoints are currently in a limbo state between C and C++. There is a pseudo class hierarchy implemented using struct fields. Taking watchpoint as an example: struct watchpoint { /* The base class. */ struct breakpoint base; ... } and it is instantianted with "new watchpoint ()". When destroyed, a destructor is first invoked through the breakpoint_ops, and then the memory is freed by calling delete through a pointer to breakpoint. Address sanitizer complains about this, for example, because we new and delete the same memory using different types. This patch takes the logical step of making breakpoint subclasses extend the breakpoint class for real, and converts their destructors to actual C++ destructors. Regtested on the buildbot. gdb/ChangeLog: * breakpoint.h (struct breakpoint_ops) <dtor>: Remove. (struct breakpoint) <~breakpoint>: New. 2016-11-17gdb/ctf.c: Get rid of mkdir redefinitionPedro Alves1-5/+0
Making GDB use gnulib's C++ namespace support shows this build error on mingw: ../../src/gdb/ctf.c: In function 'void ctf_start(trace_file_writer*, const char*)': ../../src/gdb/ctf.c:309:46: error: no match for call to '(const gnulib::_gl_mkdir_wrapper) (const char*&)' #define mkdir(pathname, mode) mkdir (pathname) ^ ../../src/gdb/ctf.c:327:15: note: in expansion of macro 'mkdir' if (gnulib::mkdir (dirname, hmode) && errno != EEXIST) ^ ../../src/gdb/ctf.c:309:46: note: candidate: gnulib::_gl_mkdir_wrapper::type {aka int (*)(const char*, short unsigned int)} <conversion> #define mkdir(pathname, mode) mkdir (pathname) ^ ../../src/gdb/ctf.c:327:15: note: in expansion of macro 'mkdir' if (gnulib::mkdir (dirname, hmode) && errno != EEXIST) ^ ../../src/gdb/ctf.c:309:46: note: candidate expects 3 arguments, 2 provided #define mkdir(pathname, mode) mkdir (pathname) ^ ../../src/gdb/ctf.c:327:15: note: in expansion of macro 'mkdir' if (gnulib::mkdir (dirname, hmode) && errno != EEXIST) ^ The problem is the '#define mkdir ...' Fortunately, we can just remove it, since gnulib's sys/stat.h replacement already takes care of the Windows mkdir prototype quirk: ~~~ /* mingw's _mkdir() function has 1 argument, but we pass 2 arguments. Additionally, it declares _mkdir (and depending on compile flags, an alias mkdir), only in the nonstandard includes <direct.h> and <io.h>, which are included above. */ # if (defined _WIN32 || defined __WIN32__) && ! defined __CYGWIN__ # if !GNULIB_defined_rpl_mkdir static int rpl_mkdir (char const *name, mode_t mode) { return _mkdir (name); } ~~~ That's sys_stat.in.h, part of the sys_stat module, which we explictly pull in nowadays. It wasn't being pulled when this macro was added: https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-03/msg00736.html That patch was partially reverted meanwhile here: https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-12/msg00023.html But the mkdir macro had been left behind unnoticed. gdb/ChangeLog: 2016-11-17 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * ctf.c [USE_WIN32API] (mkdir): Delete.

2015-10-27ctf.c: Fix int/enum implicit castSimon Marchi1-2/+8
This patch was taken directly from Pedro's branch. Right now, SET_INT32_FIELD is used to set enum fields. This works in C, but not C++. Therefore, define the new SET_ENUM_FIELD, which casts the value to the right enum type. gdb/ChangeLog: * ctf.c (SET_ENUM_FIELD): New macro. (ctf_read_status): Use it. (ctf_read_tp): Use it.

2015-09-25Add casts to memory allocation related callsSimon Marchi1-1/+1
Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case more often than not). The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc. Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't know. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the size, thanks to David Malcom's script. I fixed some bits by hand, but there might be some wrong parts left (hopefully not). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c (aarch64_stap_parse_special_token): Add cast to allocation result assignment. * ada-exp.y (write_object_renaming): Likewise. 2015-08-26Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family onesSimon Marchi1-2/+1
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be possible to do scripted replacements if needed. I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW). - xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo) - xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo) - xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num) - obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo) - obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num) - alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo) - alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num) Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC. I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many architecture-specific files. For those I'll have to rely on the buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb. gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-nat.c (aarch64_add_process): Likewise. * aarch64-tdep.c (aarch64_gdbarch_init): Likewise. * ada-exp.y (write_ambiguous_var): Likewise. * ada-lang.c (resolve_subexp): Likewise. 2014-08-22Remove workaround to libbabeltrace 1.1.0 issueYao Qi1-49/+0
When GDB uses recent version of babeltrace, such as 1.2.x, we'll see such error emitted from babeltrace library, (gdb) target ctf .../gdb/testsuite/gdb.trace/actions.ctf [error] Invalid CTF stream: content size is smaller than packet headers. [error] Stream index creation error. [error] Open file stream error. The problem can be reproduce out of GDB too, using babeltrace, $ babeltrace ./fake-packet.ctf/ [error] Invalid CTF stream: content size is smaller than packet headers. [error] Stream index creation error. [error] Open file stream error. Recent babeltrace library becomes more strict on CTF, and complains about one "faked packet" GDB adds, when saving trace data in ctf format from GDB. babeltrace 1.1.0 has a bug that it can't read trace data smaller than a certain size (see https://bugs.lttng.org/issues/450). We workaround it in GDB to append some meaningless data in a faked packet to make sure trace file is large enough (see ctf.c:ctf_end). The babeltrace issue was fixed in 1.1.1 release. However, babeltrace recent release (since 1.1.2) starts to complain about such faked packet. Here is a table shows that whether faked packet or no faked packet is "supported" by various babeltrace releases, faked packet no faked packet 1.1.0 Yes No 1.1.1 Yes Yes 1.1.2 No Yes 1.2.0 No Yes We decide to get rid of this workaround in GDB, and people can build GDB with libbabeltrace >= 1.1.1. In this way, both configure and ctf.c is simpler. Run gdb.trace/* tests in the following combinations: wo/ this pattch 1.1.0 w/ this patch 1.1.1 w/ this patch 1.1.2 w/ this patch 1.2.0 No test results change. gdb: 2014-08-22 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * ctf.c (CTF_FILE_MIN_SIZE): Remove. (ctf_end): Remove code.

However I eyeballed it and in any case the fixes should generally be trivial. This is based on the patch to fix up the target debugging for to_open, because that changes gdb to not directly install to_open as the target command 2014-07-30 Tom Tromey <tromey@redhat.com> * bsd-kvm.c (bsd_kvm_open): Constify. * corelow.c (core_open): Constify. * ctf.c (ctf_open): Constify. * dbug-rom.c (dbug_open): Constify. * exec.c (exec_open): Constify. * m32r-rom.c (m32r_open, mon2000_open): Constify. * microblaze-rom.c (picobug_open): Constify. * nto-procfs.c (procfs_open_1, procfs_open, procfs_native_open): Constify. * ppcbug-rom.c (ppcbug_open0, ppcbug_open1): Constify. * record-btrace.c (record_btrace_open): Constify. * record-full.c (record_full_core_open_1, record_full_open_1) (record_full_open): Constify. * remote-m32r-sdi.c (m32r_open): Constify. * remote-mips.c (common_open, mips_open, pmon_open, ddb_open) (rockhopper_open, lsi_open): Constify. * remote-sim.c (gdbsim_open): Constify. * remote.c (remote_open, extended_remote_open, remote_open_1): Constify. * target.h (struct target_ops) <to_open>: Make "arg" const. * tracefile-tfile.c (tfile_open): Constify.
2014-05-05Partially available/unavailable data in requested rangeYao Qi1-1/+10
In gdb.trace/unavailable.exp, an action is defined to collect struct_b.struct_a.array[2] and struct_b.struct_a.array[100], struct StructB { int d, ef; StructA struct_a; int s:1; static StructA static_struct_a; const char *string; }; and the other files are not collected. When GDB examine traceframe collected by the action, "struct_b" is unavailable completely, which is wrong. (gdb) p struct_b $1 = <unavailable> When GDB reads 'struct_b', it will request to read memory at struct_b's address of length LEN. Since struct_b.d is not collected, no 'M' block includes the first part of the desired range, so tfile_xfer_partial returns TARGET_XFER_UNAVAILABLE and GDB thinks the whole requested range is unavailable. In order to fix this problem, in the iteration to 'M' blocks, we record the lowest address of blocks within the request range. If it has, the requested range isn't unavailable completely. This applies to ctf too. With this patch applied, the result looks good and fails in unavailable.exp is fixed. (gdb) p struct_b $1 = {d = <unavailable>, ef = <unavailable>, struct_a = {a = <unavailable>, b = <unavailable>, array = {<unavailable>, <unavailable>, -1431655766, <unavailable> <repeats 97 times>, -1431655766, <unavailable> <repeats 9899 times>}, ptr = <unavailable>, bitfield = <unavailable>}, s = <unavailable>, static static_struct_a = {a = <unavailable>, b = <unavailable>, array = {<unavailable> <repeats 10000 times>}, ptr = <unavailable>, bitfield = <unavailable>}, string = <unavailable>} gdb: 2014-05-05 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * tracefile-tfile.c (tfile_xfer_partial): Record the lowest address of blocks that intersects the requested range. 2014-04-22Unify ctf_fetch_registers and tfile_fetch_registersYao Qi1-44/+4
Functions ctf_fetch_registers and tfile_fetch_registers have some duplicated code about guessing the PC in regcache. Sometimes, we may change one function and forget to update the other one, like this https://www.sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2014-01/msg00292.html This patch is to move the duplicated code into a new function tracefile_fetch_registers, and let both ctf_fetch_registers and tfile_fetch_registers call it. gdb: 2014-04-22 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * tracefile-tfile.c (tfile_fetch_registers): Move the bottom to ... * tracefile.c (tracefile_fetch_registers): ... it. 2014-04-19Call post_create_inferior in ctf_open.Yao Qi1-0/+2
We don't call post_create_inferior at the end of ctf_open. It is an oversight in patch [PATCH 2/2] Create inferior for ctf target. https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2014-01/msg01056.html This patch is to call post_create_inferior at the end of ctf_open, like the end of tfile_open. gdb: 2014-04-19 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * ctf.c (ctf_open): Call post_create_inferior.
2014-04-19Get trace_regblock_size from metadata instead of eventYao Qi1-34/+22
In ctf trace, for each 'R' block, we save it as a "register" event, as defined below in metadata. event { name = "register"; id = 0; fields := struct { ascii contents[440]; }; } Nowadays, we initialize trace_regblock_size by getting the length of "contents" from a "register" event. However, 'R' block may not exist in traceframe, as a result, "register" event doesn't exist in trace file and trace_regblock_size isn't set. This patch changes to get trace_regblock_size from metadata (or declaration) which always exists. gdb: 2014-04-19 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * ctf.c (handle_id): New static variable. (ctf_open_dir): Get handle_id from bt_context_add_trace return value. Get the declaration of event "register" and get length of field "contents".
2014-04-19Add null pointer check in ctf_xfer_partialYao Qi1-1/+1
I find a gdb crash when gdb reads ctf trace. The crash is caused by passing NULL to strcmp. This patch is to add null pointer check, as what we did somewhere else in ctf.c. gdb: 2014-04-19 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * ctf.c (ctf_xfer_partial): Check 'name' is NULL before strcmp.
2014-03-22Move the traceframe_available_memory code from memory_xfer_partial_1 down to ↵Yao Qi1-1/+15
the targets As a follow-up to [PATCH 7/8] Adjust read_value_memory to use to_xfer_partial https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2014-02/msg00384.html this patch moves traceframe_available_memory down to the target side. After this patch, the gdb core code is cleaner, and code on handling unavailable memory is moved to remote/tfile/ctf targets. In details, this patch moves traceframe_available_memory code from memory_xfer_partial_1 to remote target only, so remote target still uses traceframe_info mechanism to check unavailable memory, and use remote_ops to read them from read-only sections. We don't use traceframe_info mechanism for tfile and ctf target, because it is fast to iterate all traceframes from trace file, so the summary information got from traceframe_info is not necessary. This patch also moves two functions to remote.c from target.c, because they are only used in remote.c. I'll clean them up in another patch. gdb: 2014-03-22 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * ctf.c (ctf_xfer_partial): Check the return value of exec_read_partial_read_only, if it is not TARGET_XFER_OK, return TARGET_XFER_UNAVAILABLE. * tracefile-tfile.c (tfile_xfer_partial): Likewise. * target.c (target_read_live_memory): Move it to remote.c. This patch adjust both ctf and tfile target implementation of to_xfer_partial, to return TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE and set *XFERED_LEN if data is unavailable. Note that some code on xfer in exec.c can be shared, but we can do it in a separate pass later. gdb: 2014-02-23 Yao Qi <yao@codesourcery.com> * exec.c (section_table_read_available_memory): New function. * exec.h (section_table_read_available_memory): Declare. * ctf.c (ctf_xfer_partial): Call section_table_read_available_memory. * tracefile-tfile.c (tfile_xfer_partial): Likewise.
